Pies and The Producer back on the airwaves brought to you by the wonders of the NBN. After a couple of weeks of watching only the Olympics we're back watching regular sport again. In the NRL Brendan found some interesting rule interpretations and application of the laws of the game. While Josh was puzzled by how little Newcastle use Kalyn Ponga. The AFL have a dream fixture with the Top 4 sides playing off for the Minor Premiership and jockeying for positions. The rest of the Top 8 is not locked in with GWS and Essendon needing to win to maintain their spots. The Giants will have to spoil the Eddie Betts farewell match. While the Bombers face the might of Collingwood. West Coast and Fremantle are waiting to pounce if either slips up. Supercars have rejigged their season and released the last rounds. Bathurst has been pushed back to November with a Summer Gold Coast 500 if you can get into Queensland! The English Premier League kicked off this weekend. Most of the big clubs started with wins. Manchester United and Chelsea looked really good. Liverpool are a lot stronger with actual centre backs available for selection. And Tottenham have massive Ewing Theory potential if Harry Kane does ship out for the reported 150 million price tag. Meanwhile Man City stumbled at the first hurdle. But it's early days. Finally we whip around the grounds for other sports. MLB had their first ever Field of Dreams game and it was spectacular. The NBA Summer League has unearthed a few fun rookies. NFL is into preseason and kicks off in 3 weeks. And India took a 1-0 lead over England in the test series. 0:00:00 - NRL 1:08:00 - AFL 1:29:00 - Motorsport 1:34:00 - EPL 1:47:00 - Other Sport, MLB, NBA, NFL, Cricket Part of the No Phony Podcast Network nophonynetwork.com Twitter - @batsandballspod Brendan - @The Producer05 Josh - @PiesJosh Colbee - @colbee6ref Hammer - @notbatting11 Mendy - @BigMendy180 Maybo - @maybo83 Erik - @ErikNielsen2759 No Phony Network - @NoPhonyNetwork Email - batsandballspodcast@gmail.com facebook.com/batsandballspodcast http://batsandballspodcast.com/

Concrete Roots Group Builds Community with Shipping Container Homes

Concrete Roots Group is pioneering downtown Atlanta's sustainable housing trend. One of the first companies to build shipping container homes in the area, co-founders Josh Booth and Courtney Booth are today's guests on the All About Atlanta Real Estate segment of the Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio podcast. Hosted by Carol Morgan and Todd Schick, take a listen to learn more about Concrete Roots Group's ongoing projects and future plans. Concrete Roots Group provides custom homes, shipping container units and custom renovations. The company first started building sustainable housing after Josh was inspired by a tiny house community. After some consideration, the co-founders decided to construct the units as they do today. A smart move due to the low cost and ability to recycle shipping containers, the company delivers affordable living accommodations to the Atlanta community. “What we believe sets us apart is promoting homeownership, affordability and creating opportunity through the construction of these homes,” said Courtney Booth. Concrete Roots Group highlights the importance of community involvement through the Concrete Roots Foundation which serves and supports charitable organizations. The foundation works with organizations within four areas of focus: youth development, job creation, community restoration and sustainability. The foundation is currently partnered with various Atlanta organizations to help enhance and strengthen their already amazing work. The foundation ties back to Concrete Roots Group as many participants work on construction sites where subcontractors have the opportunity to hire them full-time. Additionally, the foundation strives to find more ways to make homes more sustainable using solar and water conservation technologies. Renewable power sources are becoming more in demand as Atlanta's home prices increase along with the need for affordable housing. While Josh thinks it will be a few more years until city governments move beyond stick-framed houses, some cities are willing to accept innovative building ideas. Concrete Roots Group recently constructed the Wilson House, a single-story 2,200 sq. ft. home consisting of two shipping containers. With 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, the home is near many popular attractions like the Atlanta BeltLine and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. “There is a lady that purchased it, she lives in it full-time, and she loves it. The way that we designed it was for entertaining and she's a huge entertainer, so she loves having people there,” said Josh Booth. “If you look at the outline, everything from the living room all the way to the back porch is just a clear view of hang-out space.” The company is currently constructing a home next to the Wilson House along as part of a neighborhood. The homes feature modest upgrades like marble countertops and shaker cabinets. While these beautiful features meet many homebuyers' needs, Courtney Booth reminds buyers that custom finishes raise the home price. As Concrete Roots Group continues building, Courtney Booth and Josh Booth expect the need for affordable housing to increase. Due to customer experience and interaction, the co-founders think urban development will expand regarding innovative ways of living. Today we are speaking to Morgan Margolis, CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment and the son of actor Mark Margolis and Jacqueline Margolis. Likely you will know Mark Margolis from his breakout role Salamanca from the television show Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul as well as HBO’s Oz as well as the iconic films Scarface, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream and Black Swan. Host Josh met Morgan six years ago when their children were in elementary school together. They both work in the music industry and realized they both had celebrity parents. Morgan and Josh also bonded over New York in the 1970s. While Josh grew up in Los Angeles, he spent my summers in Long Island not far from where his family roots were and while not a city kid, they had shared experiences from Long Island to Manhattan growing up when the Yankees won back to back World Series and the Summer of Sam. As you will hear, one of the unique things about the Margolis family is that they were an acting family. Both Morgan’s parents were theater trained but unlike most celebrity stories, success came to Mark later in life. Always a working actor, Mark Margolis at age 80 is now recognized on the street by paparazzi while 10 years ago, he was just a regular working actor. In a minute you’ll hear Morgan’s personal story about growing up on the Lower East Side, his own acting career challenges following in his fathers footsteps, the infamous crew he ran with in high school, how football played a role in his life and how his early years watching his parents perform experimental productions on college campuses, travelling from stage to stage in a VW van as a toddler. So what was it like growing up Margolis? Find out next on Rarified Heir.

While Josh acknowledges that President Trump was Israel's best friend ever in the White House, and gratitude is in order, it's the Israeli leadership which has to change its mentality and step up no matter who is in the White House, at 10 Downing Street, etc. Living in Israel for 19 years, Josh says that his president isn't Joe Biden, but President Rivlin along with PM Netanyahu. Customer experience leadership in higher education: interview with Josh Dodson – E74

Vice President of Marketing & Innovation at VisionPoint Marketing, Josh Dodson, shares his insights about how the field of higher education is embracing customer-centricity and responding to the demands of the Age of the Customer. Customer experience leadership is quickly becoming an enabler for success in higher education. Josh and show host, Julia, discuss how changing market dynamics are forcing schools to turn up their game, the importance of ease of use in student journeys, the role of personalization in engaging students and how CX success is measured in higher education. If you’re looking for some insight into how customer experience is playing out in an industry facing disruption and steep competition, then this episode is for you. Driving change in higher education Josh Dodson is the Vice President of Marketing & Innovation at VisionPoint Marketing. Josh doesn’t just strategize, he delivers results. With his uncanny ability to author strategy, execute nuanced, technical tactics and leverage big data, Josh has helped countless institutions modernize their enrollment and marketing programs. His expertise with digital marketing, analytics and SEO for higher education has made him a sought-after thought leader in the industry. Before joining VisionPoint, he led digital marketing efforts at Bentley University, Southern New Hampshire University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Lincoln Memorial University. His experience both inside the university and partnering with them from the outside gives him a unique perspective that clients find invaluable. While Josh doesn't have "CX" in his title, his work is very much focused around helping higher education institutions deliver better customer (i.e. student) experiences. As a marketer, Josh's work with schools might start with exploration into how to improve the sales funnel and engagement with prospective students, but he's not shy about pointing out the importance of managing the full student lifecycle. He notes that most institutions regard the student lifecycle with a siloed view of the student as a prospective student, student or alumni, though he's working to change this. Josh Dodson, Vice President of Marketing & Innovation at VisionPoint Marketing Responding to a tough market The numbers of college students in the US have been on the decline over the past decade. A decline in the pool of high school graduates paired with concerns about the cost of college and changing attitudes towards higher education since the 2008 financial crisis have led to a 2 million student drop in enrollment during the last decade. This has hit for-profit schools the hardest, along with public 2-year schools in the US. And the bad news is that it looks like the same trends will persist through the mid 2020s. Adding to the challenge of dropping enrollment is a rise in alternative avenues for education. Josh notes that students are increasingly turning to "bootcamp" style learning over multi-year degree programs, meaning that a larger pool of organizations are now competing for the same (shrinking) pool of prospective students. In response to these changes, US colleges and universities are turning to student experience as a way to stand out and differentiate. From the enrollment side of things, schools are becoming more clever and streamlined about they way that they engage with prospective students, aiming to provide a frictionless experience that integrates digital engagement and personalization a la Amazon. To realize these changes, schools have had to completely change the way they think about the student journey.  Schools historically have tended to look at [the student journey] from the perspective of the school and not necessarily from the perspective of the student. And I think that that's also a shift that a lot of schools are really having to reckon with at this point. Just like their business counterparts in the for-profit corporate world,

Wouldn’t it be nice to get an inside look at how a brand was built from the ground up? Good news - you’ve come to the right place! On this episode of Inspired Insider, you’ll hear from entrepreneur and innovator, Josh Elizexe. In his conversation with Jeremy, Josh opens up about why he created Snow, how he’s built and expanded the brand, challenges he has faced along the way, and much more. Have pen and paper read, you don’t want to miss a minute of this powerful episode featuring Josh’s story!  Who has helped you in your career? Did you have a family member who you could go to for business advice? Were you fortunate enough to find a mentor who could help guide you in your professional development? Josh Elizetxe is thankful to have made the right connections with the right leaders who encouraged him to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. While Josh can point to one or two key mentors he has been able to connect with in person - there are a ton who mentored him from afar. Don’t let your inability to get in the room with someone keep you from learning from them - watch their talks and read their books!  When it comes to building a brand - you’ve got to think of the long game. Do you just want to build something that can turn a quick profit or do you want to build something that will go the distance? Josh could have put all his efforts into making a quick and easy brand dedicated to oral health, but he opted to take the road less travelled - a specific brand focused on premium products. Learn from Josh’s example and build the brand that you can be proud of! What can you learn from Josh’s story?  One of the best ways you can grow a brand that can soar past your competitors is to become an expert at marketing. Seriously! If you know your audience inside and out and you know how to communicate to them - you’ll be unstoppable. Unfortunately, too many business leaders take the easy route and neglect the benefit that great marketing can have on their business. What are you waiting for? Dig deep and get to know the folks you want to serve with your product or service - if you approach them with the language they use - they’ll reward you for it!  When you build something like a premium oral care brand - you take pride in how the business runs - Josh Elizetxe is no exception. While he could have gone through multiple rounds of external fundraising efforts with Snow - Josh decided to bootstrap the company. What does it take to build a business that is so independent and self-funded? According to Josh, it takes a compelling vision to stay on mission and headed in a specific direction. This week on the show, my guest is none other than Joshua Caldwell. While Josh has been working on some higher profile projects over the past few years - including his upcoming feature Southland (starring Bella Thorne) and his 2017 feature Negative - his success began with a simple $6000 micro-budget indie, titled Layover. Over the course of our discussion, Josh outlines why he chose to take the DIY path, and how he broke with convention to make his micro-budget debut stand out from the crowd. He shares how he leveraged his success with Layover to land a directing job for Hulu, and later went on to direct several more feature films over the course of just a few short years. We touch on his philosophy on filmmaking, his approach to the creative process, advice for up and coming filmmakers, and much more. By criteria that are more difficult to measure, Bob and Charlotte's platonic Tokyo romance is just really meaningful to a lot of people. When it comes to just flat out being lucky, in the history of the podcast, I think we have a new winner! To give credit where credit is due, our community member, Josh, worked hard and saved up $1,000. So it is not a situation where he just lucked out in regards to having money, but yeah… I don’t want to run anything, just listen – haha. After the initial luckiness, Josh quickly discovered that there is much more to trading than what he had originally thought. While he joins a long list of many who have thought this same way, the way Josh conducted himself after this realization is something we can all learn from, myself included. Notes: Josh’s introduction to the market was a virtual game and after he learned the mechanics of it was able to pad his virtual account. This led him to want to do it with actual money. After saving up $1,000, he asked his dad for some tickers on his watch list but his dad is a notoriously bad typist and ended up giving him a recommendation on something he didn’t intend. Lucky for Josh, after holding for 8 months that ticker was bought out for triple what he paid. Josh and his friend had been following the marijuana legislation in 2013 and decided to spread their money into a few different names. They had actually caught the start of the ‘pot stock boom’ and instead of holding and hoping, Josh ended up taking profits to be safe and not get caught in the dump. After finding little success in the penny stock market, he shifted his money back into larger names that he didn’t mind holding longer term. He was busy with school and life so he prefered to not sweat the small moves that stocks tend to make intraday. After watching some of Clay’s videos he decided to change brokerages and find a good platform for day trading. While Josh didn’t have a risk management plan on paper, he was extremely protective of his money and refused to let any future trades go against him by a large margin. He falls into a small percent of people who DO NOT go big and ultimately go home. Josh is now keeping himself accountable by paper trading with an Excel spreadsheet. He also realizes that less is more when it comes to indicators. Price action and volume are king. Quotes: “I figured out I was good at reading the programming of the game, make a bunch of money and get really ahead.” “We saw that legislation was coming out for marijuana. My friend and I did some research and spread our money into some penny stocks.” “I started looking into .0001 stocks. I’ve been trying to sell some of these since 2014 but liquidity trap for sure.” “I thought, oooh all IPO’s go up right? I’m going to get in and get out but I couldn’t get out quick enough.” “I stopped putting money on the line to figure out why I was unable to predict the market right.” “I used to have bollinger bands and histograms but didn’t know what any of them meant. I thought I was cool like the Youtube videos.” Links: Video: Sales Pitch or Belief

There are companies in the DOW jones that are less risky because they have proven their revenue - companies like Coca Cola, Disney, Apple etc. In the Wealthy Investor Program we try to balance risk by leaning a little more conservative and having most of our money in DOW stocks.  Today Tyrone talks with someone well versed in risk. Josh Belanger is an option trading specialist and author of the book Fearless Investing With Options. Josh began working at 19 as a pizza delivery boy. He told one of his regular customers about his dreams of becoming a stock broker, and the customer advised him to get a Series 7. While Josh studied to pass the Series 7 exam he worked on the floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange as a runner - the lowest man on the totem pole. After the test, Josh had a career as a stock broker, or financial adviser.  After paying his dues, Josh started to see how the internet and technology was changing the industry. He also realized that he wasn’t really learning to play the game of the stock market. He got out of the finance industry and started trading options aggressively. Now Josh is the founder of www.OptionSIZZLE.com where he publishes free daily investing and trading tips and teaches struggling self directed investors how to become more profitable trading options while reducing risk, creating higher chances of success and generating better returns in any type of financial market.  Having been on the other side, Josh believes that mutual funds are legally stealing everyone's money. The monstrous fees taken by the financial advisors and firms compared to the little amount of money they make you in return is unreasonable. Also, financial advisors are required to operate under so many legal restrictions, that there's not much they are allowed to do to grow your money. Now trading on his own and helping others to do so, Josh has focused mainly on options trading. In Tyrone’s Wealthy Investor approach, he teaches LEAPS options trading. In a LEAP, the option has a one year expiration date. Josh’s strategy utilizes shorter time frames; his options usually expire in 30 - 50 days. Josh looks more for income generating opportunities instead of focusing on long term investing or day trading.  Josh believes that one of the first things you need to understand is implied volatility. Ideally if you buy an option you want the implied volatility levels to be low. If you buy an option, you want to look to sell it. Your fear about what could happen is greater than what really happens in the market. Typically Josh buys an option and sells another option. He does this to reduce the overall cost and increase the probability of success. This would be considered a spread. As Tyrone always says, "The Stock Market is a game with a hundred ways to play it." June 19.2011 - We're back for another comic book movie special edition podcast, and unlike the last one, this discussion of the eagerly awaited Green Lantern movie isn't as gushy.
