"My story isn't a basketball story, it's a life story." Greg Oden On this episode of The Pivot Podcast, we sit down with former No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick Greg Oden for one of the most honest and powerful conversations of his life. For years, Greg Oden's name has been tied to one word: "bust." Drafted ahead of future MVP and NBA champion Kevin Durant in 2007, Oden became the subject of endless debates about what could have been. But as Durant himself has said, Greg was never truly given a chance—his career was derailed by injuries before the basketball world ever got to see what he could become. In this raw and revealing conversation, Greg reflects on the pressure of being the No. 1 pick, the weight of expectations, and the frustration of seeing his legacy defined by circumstances beyond his control. From his rise as a high school phenom and Ohio State star to the devastating injuries that robbed him of years on the court, Greg shares the emotional and physical battles that shaped his journey. Parts of this conversation bare all as Greg's transparency truly brings his pain and passion to the forefront. He opens up about his time with the Portland Trail Blazers, the criticism and scrutiny that followed him throughout his career, and what it was like earning a second chance with the Miami Heat and reaching the NBA Finals alongside some of the game's biggest names from Lebron James to Dwayne. Wade to Chris Bosh. Beyond basketball, Greg discusses his struggles with mental health, depression, addiction, self-worth, and the challenges of rebuilding his life after the game. He speaks candidly about regrets, losing loved ones, what ifs , public perception, and the process of finding peace with a career that never unfolded the way anyone expected. This episode isn't about what Greg Oden wasn't. It's about who he is, what he endured, and how he found the strength to keep moving forward when the world had already written his story for him. Greg's new chapter is leading as a dedicated father, mentor, college advisor and also filmmaker, with his feature film "Bust" getting ready to release. A powerful conversation about resilience, perspective, redemption, and one of basketball's greatest "what ifs." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

On Episode 520 of State of the New York Knicks Podcast, I break down the Knicks' Game 3 victory over the Cavaliers as New York takes a commanding 3-0 lead in the series and moves one step closer to the NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson once again led the way with 30 points, 6 assists, and a +15 plus/minus while relentlessly attacking the defense and controlling the tempo throughout the game. I discuss Brunson's continued postseason brilliance, including becoming the first player since Kevin Durant in 2018 to record a postseason plus/minus of +200. I also talk about the historical significance of this win, as the Knicks have never held a 3-0 lead in an Eastern Conference Finals series, while no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. Join me as I talk with Knicks fans about the biggest takeaways from Game 3, the standout performances, key adjustments, and what New York needs to do to finish the job. So many celebrities claim they don't bother with the internet...but I've always thought that can't be true! The internet is so addictive and enticing and sometimes a crack in the matrix happens and we find proof that celebrities ARE online...but with burner accounts! Today I break down documented cases of celebrities, politicians, CEOs, and athletes getting caught tweeting from fake accounts, and explore the reasons why this might be. Kevin Durant's decade-long burner career. Mitt Romney as Pierre Delecto. The Whole Foods CEO who spent eight years on Yahoo Finance message boards. And Elon Musk, who apparently tweets as his baby, his mother, his father, a German man named Adrian, and an attack dog named babysmurf9000.

Joe Rose says if Giannis truly wants to become a member of the Heat, he may eventually need to publicly push for a trade, but questions whether Giannis wants the backlash and “villain” label that often comes with superstar player movement. The conversation looks back at how LeBron James became one of the most hated athletes in America after taking his talents to Miami, while Kevin Durant faced similar criticism after joining Golden State. Joe explains why he thinks Giannis is viewed differently than some other superstars and discusses how certain star players receive different treatment from organizations, fans, and media depending on the situation.

Knicks fan World B shares his thoughts on his team making the Finals after a 26 season drought. 2:10 ... World B had predicted the Knicks to make the Finals in his preseason picks and his aim was true! 3:39 ... Ross tees up a discussion on how the Knicks have grown so much as a team. 4:24 ... Bruce is happiest for Knicks head coach Mike Brown who has led the team to record breaking performances in the playoffs.  And they didn't really want to hire him to replace Tom Thibodeau prior to the season but all the other coaches they wanted to interview were not given permission from their teams to speak to New York about the job.   So Brown was hired by default and it was a move that has succeeded wildly. 6:16 ... World B gives Brown credit for retooling the Knicks' offensive system and he reels off the numbers that prove it. 8:47 ... Ross wonders whether the Knicks upcoming layoff (as they wait for their Finals opponent) will kill their great momentum?  Both Bruce and World B feel like the Knicks are sitting pretty.  Ross is concerned how they'll handle any offensive dry spells against the Spurs and Thunder. 13:49 ... If the Spurs beat OKC and play New York in the Finals, Bruce feels like the Knicks will use Karl Anthony-Towns to draw Victor Wembanyama away from the hoop on defense which could allow New York to operate successfully closer to the hoop. 14:48 ... Bruce marvels at how Wemby guards the entire opposing team and how God must be a Spurs fan with Wemby succeeding Tim Duncan and David Robinson as the latest generational big man in San Antonio. 16:37 ... World B reacts to the Spurs big win in game 4 with Wemby leading the way once again. 18:09 ... Bruce points out how Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has struggled offensively against the Spurs and with two key teammates like Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell battling health issues, the Spurs will continue to "throw the kitchen sink" at SGA if they miss more action.  The result will be to wear SGA down and that will mean big trouble for OKC.  Ross adds some perspective to the OKC offensive struggles. 20:11 ... World B explains how the return of De'Aaron Fox has been really important as far as the offense running smoothly.  Ross feels like game 5 is a "must win" game for the Thunder. 22:40 ... Bruce points out that all the NBA awards have been announced except for Coach of the Year and he hopes his preseason prediction of Mitch Johnson winning the award might come true with a trophy presentation prior to game 6 in San Antonio. 24:09 ...

Play Episode Listen Later May 20, 2026 2:20

After a few years of relative parity, the Spurs and Thunder appear to be entrenched juggernauts atop the West standings. As San Antonio and Oklahoma City square off in the 2026 Western Conference Finals, each features an MVP frontrunner and other young stars who should all remain in elite form for years to come. So, what does that mean for those teams a few slots beneath them, including the Houston Rockets? The NBA playoffs are creating big questions across the league, and this episode of RealGM Radio starts with a fast-moving five-pack of NBA observations. First, Wes Goldberg breaks down the Cavaliers' massive 23-0 run against the Pistons, Donovan Mitchell's takeover, and the adjustments Detroit must make to keep the series alive. Was this the version of Mitchell Cleveland has been waiting for, and did the Pistons miss their best chance to steal control of the series? Then, after another close Lakers loss and the Thunder advancing to the Western Conference Finals, Wes looks at LeBron James' uncertain future. LeBron said he doesn't know what comes next, but his postgame comments about being a third option and still chasing championships raise a bigger question: could he eventually look for a different role somewhere else? Wes also reacts to the NBA Draft Lottery, including big wins for the Bulls and Grizzlies, a mock draft scenario involving Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, Cam Boozer, Darius Acuff Jr. and Caleb Wilson, plus what Victor Wembanyama's elbow moment says about his mindset. And with reporting that the Milwaukee Bucks are seeking trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Wes explains what the Bucks should prioritize if they move their franchise superstar — and why a full teardown might not be the right path. Then, Dieter Kurtenbach of the Bay Area News Group joins RealGM Radio to discuss the mood around the Golden State Warriors, why Steph Curry may age better than Kevin Durant, the NBA Draft Lottery, changes in NBA media coverage, the rise of betting and analysis on broadcasts, streaming, regional sports networks, and whether the Oklahoma City Thunder's rise has actually been good for the NBA. Teams discussed include the Rams, Bengals, Panthers, Ravens, Titans, Jets, Saints, Raiders, Texans, Chiefs, and more as we debate which franchises made the biggest leap heading into the season. Then we shift to the NBA for “Way or No Way: Trade Edition,” breaking down whether some of the league's biggest stars could realistically be moved. We discuss Jaylen Brown, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell, Anthony Davis, Ja Morant, Kevin Durant, Zion Williamson, Devin Booker, Kyrie Irving, and others. In MLB, we debate whether there's any player you would rather build your franchise around than Elly De La Cruz, comparing him to names like Bobby Witt Jr., James Wood, Roman Anthony, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vlad Guerrero Jr., and more. We also close with a Sports Scantron segment asking which team has the best chance to beat the Dodgers this season: Cubs, Padres, Yankees, Braves, or Pirates. Spurs star center Victor Wembanyana struggled offensively, scoring 11 points and converting five of 17 shots, missing all eight three-point shots. Brunson scored 35 points in 31 minutes. Tonight LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers begin their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Is Rich Paul throwing LeBron under the bus claiming that NBA players are directing potential clients elsewhere because of their disdain for the King? Can Kevin Durant and the Rockets coexist, and is it possible that Aaron Rodgers is headed to the desert? Steve and Jason ponder why Skip Bayless is making a guest appearance on "First Take" with Stephen A. Smith and whether Dianna Russini is on the verge of publicly addressing “her truth”? The Houston Rockets are reportedly open to running it back with Kevin Durant — but Rob Parker isn’t sold. Rob breaks down why he believes KD’s history of injuries, moodiness, burner accounts, and locker‑room tension makes this a risky move, especially as he gets older. Parker argues that everywhere Durant has landed over the last several stops, things have eventually gone south. Kelvin Washington agrees, emphasizing that a veteran star can’t keep being a locker‑room disruptor everywhere he goes. Kelvin also explains how today’s NBA places a greater emphasis on culture, buy‑in, and development — especially with young rosters. With Houston building around a promising young core, Kelvin questions whether a steadier, mid‑tier veteran might make more sense than the Kevin Durant experience. A candid conversation about leadership, team culture, and what modern NBA franchises should value when chasing contention.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
