At Round the Table on Friday, Ben John shared about an unprecedented case that has reached national news: 26 female nurses complained about harassment from a male, who identifies as a woman, in their changing room. He had been taking cross-sex hormones but then stopped doing so and was trying to get his girlfriend pregnant. These nurses have launched legal action against the NHS Foundation Trust with the help of the Christian Legal Centre. Andrea Williams shared updates on Aaron Edwards' case, as we have been in Sheffield supporting him during the week. The former lecturer in theology has just finished giving evidence at Tribunal against the Methodist Bible College who sacked him over a biblical tweet: "Homosexuality is invading the Church...". A commemorative casebound edition of "Beyond the Odds – Providence in Britain's Wars of the 20th Century" has been released to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. Tim Dieppe, who contributed two chapters to the book co-authored by John Scriven, spoke about God's remarkable providence in Britain's history.

My guest this week is former Ospreys centre and Social Media superstar - Ben John   This interview was recorded in September of 2023 and we talked about Ben's recent journey to the World Cup in a campervan, starting out at Loughor RFC, playing in the Junior Rugby World Cup in Argentina, reflections on being a Pro with the Ospreys (including a brief stint in the back row with Jerry Collins) and how that crosses over into the real world. As the Church of England's General Synod voted this week to approve blessing same-sex relationships, we are joined by two lay members of Synod who contributed to the debate and tried very hard to persuade the church not to go down this route. A hospice chaplain was told by none other than a Methodist minister to remove his small cross pin on his jumper at work because it might offend the patients. Derek Timms, who worked for a Marie Curie hospice in Solihull, was told he would face consequences and would need 're-training' if he refused to remove his small cross pin from his jumper - despite wearing that exact cross for the past four years without any complaint at the hospice. We're pleased to report that Marie Curie promptly issued Derek with an unreserved apology, clarifying that he could keep wearing his cross. But what does it say about the state of the church when a minister is advocating the removal of the cross? Data from the 2021 census suggests that 46.2% of people in England and Wales identify as Christian - the lowest number on record. Perhaps it's time for the Church to step up, unashamedly, and be clear on what we believe. During this episode, I sat down with Ben John. A former professional rugby player for the Ospreys and Dragons. Ben discusses his rugby journey. Focusing on where it began, who inspired him to become a rugby player and how he overcame the obstacles in his career, that caused him to retire from rugby at the age of 27. Ben talks openly and honestly about the lessons he has learned and how important it is to prioritise your physical and mental health. Ben also discusses his new career as a fitness coach as a Head coach at 'Manor London' and also his new business called '9twelverugby'.
