When did they stop naming characters The Big Ragu? Is it trains again? Is it police? We answer these questions and more as we trip over Season 2, Episode 4 of Family Matters. Alex Diamond, David Kenny, and John McDaniel heard that the long-running network sitcom Family Matters ends with side character Steve Urkel going to space. And the best way to figure out how that happened - obviously - is to watch the last episode first and make our way backwards through nearly ten years of television.Join our countdown to number one (and our slow descent into madness) in all the places you expect internet people to be:Website: jumpingtheshuttle.spaceEmail: jumpingtheshuttle@gmail.comInstagram: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Twitter: @JumpingShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577TikTok: @JumpingTheShuttle / @ThatAlexD / @dak577Brought to you by Smooth My Balls

It took ten days on the road in multiple time zones and one date to leave her Sleepless in Cincinnati. Erin recollects how she closed down the bar in the middle of a storm, took a selfie with a tan and white, larger than life, Big Cow, and pretended like she was Laverne (and Hope, Shirley), making their dreams come true.

Les, Kurt, and Jason have reconvened to ask the important questions like, “Does Les get craft service during his tech rehearsals?” And “Did Wilford Brimley pull some serious tail back in the day?” Plus, Kurt reports that Blac Chyna wants Tyga to stick to their custody schedule! Then, the guys tackle their first animated show for the podcast, 1981's “Laverne and Shirley” (aka known as Laverne and Shirley in the Army to not confuse it with the live action counterpart). While this Laverne and Shirley doesn't have Lenny or Squiggy or Carmine Ragusa, it does have a pig voiced by Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter and giant space birds. Jason thinks the show may have been borne out of the last actor's strike while Les thinks this is the horniest cartoon he's ever seen. Take a look at the rocket that all of the characters are quite confident they can fly and judge for yourself! It will rot your brain, Slackers, but who doesn't love some goold old fashioned network TV?Remember every fall when they would announce the new tv season? It was always exciting to have the new episodes of our favorite shows, but what shows really ruled the airwaves for the season,Not unlike professional sports, each TV season was actually a competition between networks, each vying for ratings dominance. I know that in the late 70s and early 80s, ABC was the dominant network, with shows like Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, and Mork & Mindy. By the mid 80s, NBC would go on a big run, with shows like The Cosby Show, Cheers, Family Ties, and A Different World. Surprisingly, many spinoffs actually outperformed the shows that launched them. And did you know that despite having the most viewed episode ever (at the time), M*A*S*H was never the top show of any season? With streaming being the way most of us consume programming nowadays, this episode made me hearken back to a simpler time - The Big Three networks and the September through April program season. Then we took the summer off - and TV didn't matter.

Wouldn't you like to get away, Slackers? This week combines my love of music and my love of 70's & 80's sitcoms - my top ten favorite sitcom theme songs! From Three's Company to Cheers, the theme songs were often as iconic as the shows themselves. In most cases, you really did get a feel for what the show was about just by the music that was chosen to accompany the opening credits. Sure, there was at least one "theme doctor" with multiple songs on the list, but even that was part of the appeal - remember TGIF?Hopefully, some of these tunes will warm your heart and bring you back to a "simpler" time - with fond memories of gathering around the television to enjoy some family friendly fare.

WIth the passing of Cindy Williams a bunch of you have been asking about the time we played Has Been Corner with Cindy Williams when we were on WNEW here in nyc. This is from around 2001. The bit was so brutal and uncomfortable that we never did it again. I must say I barely recognize myself in this clip. So strange to hear my voice from a time that is long gone. Special thanks to the great Lewis Black for being extra hilarious that day. In the end, she had a great sense of humor about what went down on this particular show and ended up signing shirts for us that said Cindy Williams Has Been. Schlameel! Schlamazel! This episode is all about one of the most famous comedy couples in classic TV, Laverne and Shirley. When it jumped the shark is hard to pin down. Was it the last episode that Shirley appeared in, or the one after? Well, we went with the last episode and it was a doozy. There's some wild sitcom shenanigans going on in this one and I'm real glad we picked it. Nothing like a good hypnotist trope to really bring the weirdness in. We also got to talk about a bunch of behind the scenes stuff that I was completely unaware of. Hope you learn something! The Girls (as Amy DeFazio and Robbie-Ann Feeney) do a Deep Dive into 70s sitcom classic Laverne and Shirley. The iconic shabby basement apartment, which Amy reports was also the former set of another classic sitcom. The show's frequent 'winter' settings. Landlady Mrs. Babish. Lenny Kosnowski and Andrew 'Squiggy' Squiggman - David Lander and Michael McKean...and the surprising origins of their characters. Did Shirley and Laverne date Lenny and Squiggy, or what? Robbie-Ann wonders about a Steinbeck influence on their characters. Carmine - Shirley's 'sweetheart.' Character analysis: Shirley Feeney. Were you Shirley or Laverne? Boo-Boo Kitty - Cindy Williams' ad lib. The origins of the famous nonsense hop-scotch intro "5, 6, 7 8..." Some ocean-floor level deeeep-dive trivia on the iconic theme song sung by Cyndi Greco, and its connections to the Happy Days theme song. How producers discovered Cyndi Greco singing at an amusement park. Sidebar: go find the documentary The Wrecking Crew about the famous musicians who played on pretty much EVERYTHING between 1960 and 1980. The Ron Hicklin Singers: the surprising "Making Our Dreams Come True" theme connection with The Partridge Family, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Kawasaki and McDonald's jingles, and a long list of 60s and 70s hits. Robbie-Ann reports the 'WHAAAT?!" connection with the "Making Our Dreams Come True" song and...."We Are the World?!" Character breakdown: Laverne DeFazio. The iconic 'L' monogram on her sweaters, which Penny Marshall contributed to Laverne's costume. The abomination of 'milk and Pepsi.' Amy reports on Laverne's backstory. The incredible physical comedy from the two leads. Shirley's disappearance from the last season of the show - the 'marriage' excuse. Michael McKean's exit to shoot "Spinal Tap" - and Amy reports a stunning announcement that Spinal Tap actually appeared on an episode in the last season. The final episode of Season 8 - a Carmine spin-off? The show's move to Burbank that jumped the shark. Laverne and Shirley in Burbank: gift wrappers? "Big Rosie" as their nemesis in early episodes. When Mrs. Babish married Laverne's father Frank, but leaves him in the lurch in later episodes. Robbie-Ann's issue with sitcoms that got serious: just be funny please. Sidebar: Seinfeld's wise 'no hugs' policy on the sitcom. Amy liked those episodes though, because it was unexpected. The 80s hair and wardrobe of the later seasons, even though it was supposed to be late 60s. The lost season 5 when Laverne and Shirley joined the Army Reserves. The show's great use of the street-level window as a comedy device. How Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall initially got on the show, and their connection to...Francis Ford Coppola? Penny Marshall's marriage to Rob Reiner, and Cindy Williams' marriage to Bill Hudson of the Hudson Brothers. The infamous terms 'Vo-di-oh-do-do' and 'hot to trot.' The 're-virginization' of Laverne and Shirley. Rumors of off-camera antics: partying? Diva behavior? Drugs? The effects of the show's success on egos and the work environment. The cozy first seasons and the focus on the characters' friendship. Didn't every little girl think she would grow up to live with her best friend?

Most of you will remember Michael McKean as the annoying neighbor Lenny Kosnowski in “Laverne and Shirley.” He was also David Hubbins, lead vocalist in the fictional rock band “Spinal Tap.” And most recently he played Chuck McGill, Saul's paranoid brother on “Better Call Saul,” for which he won a primetime Emmy award. Michael has appeared in many films, TV shows, and on Broadway.
This week is a special episode as the Bros add another bro with guest host Tarq! He brings brews from the Land of the Great Lakes, Michigan, with M-43 by Old Nation Brewing. This Highway themed beer tickles our fancies and brings about some major disagreements as far as ratings, while also inspiring some new podcast enemies. Paired with this brew is a poem by a true pioneer for women, Margaret Curry Rorke. In addition to an esteemed law career and many firsts for Michigan Women, Margaret Rorke also brought a world of poetry to the world that her children share to this day at https://poemsforallseasons.com/ which we recommend you check out. While we discuss her poetry we get into discussions of what makes a Michigander, Metallica, and all the other diversions you expect from these crazy Bros. Enjoy the episode!Cheers!

Oh Tiffiny and I love an older sitcom! So we hash out an airplane themed ep. from the series Laverne & Shirley! This is a show that played for eight seasons on ABC from January 27, 1976, to May 10, 1983. It actually is a spin-off of Happy Days! Laverne DeFazio (Penny Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams), are two friends and roommates who work as bottle-cappers in the fictitious Shotz Brewery in late 1950s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! They're gonna do it their way! :-) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rich-temple/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rich-temple/support
JULY 20, 1969. It marks the date of the singularly most amazing thing humankind has ever accomplished. Man Lands on the Moon! Many of us watched it live. Everyone of us has seen Neil Armstrong jump off the lunar lander and proclaim "One small step for man..." Well, it seems that NASA knows how to land a rocket on the moon, but not save video. You heard me correctly. After all these years, NASA admits they have lost the original moon landings from 1969. Taped over the originals they say. Are you kidding? What did they record over the moon landing with? LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY! LIFE'S CRAZY™ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/andy-cordan/support
LIST-A-RAMA-A-GO-GO: “It’s the end of the world as Hudson Hawk knows it.” (1981-1997) Today’s episode title might not be the most optimistic draw but it is representative of a pretty popular mindset. As an Executive Producer he’s won three Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes, the Producer's Guild - Producer of the Year Award, two Peabody Awards and The Silver Gavel Award. Say it forward with Jeffrey Kramer.
It's hard to pinpoint what songwriter and composer Charlie Fox is best known for: his TV theme songs have been household presences for decades ("Happy Days," "Laverne and Shirley," "The Love Boat"), "Killing Me Softly" is a legendary, iconic hit for Roberta Flack, and his orchestral music has been performed all over the world. For Wise, he has composed an incredible number of pieces that will be an everlasting part of the Wise musical legacy. In this wide-ranging discussion, he and Rabbi Yoshi discuss the art of composing, the deep connection Charlie feels with his Jewish heritage, and the people in his life who have left a lasting impact on him, musically and otherwise.
This week, Wayne brings us Equinox, the fifth studio album by Styx. This would be their first album for A&M Records and their last album with guitarist John Curulewski. He would be replaced by guitarist and singer Tommy Shaw on their next release, “The Grand Illusion,” at which point Styx would take the form which most of us remember as one of the groups that make up the soundtrack of our childhood. Equinox would only go to #58 on the album charts, but would see a resurgence with the release of The Grand Illusion in 1977. Midnight Ride James "JY" Young takes the vocal duties on this track, also written by Young. It is a fast, rocking song about a one-night stand with a groupie. Lorelai This track is the biggest hit from the album and features the vocals of both James Young and the distinctive sound of Dennis DeYoung. The name of the album was from a brainstorming session, and “Equinox” was the only name that everyone didn't hate. Lorelai was the name of a water fairy. Prelude 12 This song is performed and written by John Curulewski. This instrumental on a 12-string guitar is the prelude to Suite Madame Blue, and is often missed when that song is played on the radio or Spotify. Suite Madame Blue This well-known epic was written for the US Bicentennial. Wistful yet positive despite its minor key, the song calls for reflection and responsibility. The song was done in one day. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK: Theme from "Laverne and Shirley" This television series spin-off from "Happy Days" would debut in January on ABC. STAFF PICKS: “Dream On” by Aerosmith There is no mistaking the opening riff from this epic pick by Brian. It was originally released in 1973, but had its album re-release in December 1975 and was marching up the charts in January. Steven Tyler was not originally comfortable singing in the higher octaves, but fortunately overcame that fear. “Island Girl” by Elton Jon Rob's staff pick was #1 for three weeks, and was the first single from the album "Rock of the Westies." Kiki Dee is on background vocals on this Caribbean-influenced hit. “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” by Paul Simon Bruce's staff pick is the second single off Simon's album "Still Crazy After All These Years." This is Simon's sole #1 hit as a solo artist. “Tower” by Angel Wayne cranks things back up with his staff pick from a group discovered by Gene Simmons of Kiss. Angel had a prog rock vibe and dressed in all white during their performances. "Tower" is a medieval themed track. LAUGH TRACK: “Convoy” CW McCall We finish off this episode with this ode to the CB radio. Citizens Band was pretty much the social media app of the 70's.

As we continue to look back at the end of summer and beginning of fall in years past, Smitty and Mike look back to the beginning of the fall TV season. We recall the days when after the summertime, the new programs would debut. We look back at the TV program "Happy Days", which was a staple program for many of today's boomers back in the day. Tuesday nights on ABC, this highly popular program looked back at the Cunningham family and their lives they lived in 1950s America. This program led to other spin-offs such as "Laverne and Shirley", which were just as popular. We also look back at the life of Robin Williams, who recently passed away. The multi-talented Williams is well remembered for his work in both TV and motion pictures. We also look toward the beginning of the fall season, the days get shorter, the leaves start to turn, and the weather gets cooler as we head into the holiday season. We recall the anticipation of those days which we still remember with lots of fondness. Our Retro-Commercial is for Sanka Coffee with Robert Young, having his coffee at an auction! Join us for lots of fun memories on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network!
