This social shift sparked one woman's vision of a beverage company focused on creating alcohol-free drinks that give people that same happy, buzzed feeling as your average cocktail—without the anxiety and stress of overdoing it or waking up hungover. So in 2020, she took the plunge and founded Bonbuz, a Los Angeles-based company that crafts function-forward, non-alcoholic options for those who prefer to steer clear of booze. Join us in today's episode as we explore the relatively new frontier of alcohol alternatives with Bonbuz CEO and President Fay Behbehani. Together, we will examine the inspiration behind Bonbuz, active agents that mimic the buzz of alcohol, up-and-coming ingredients in the drinking industry, and the reasons behind this trend toward non-alcoholic products. Follow Bonbuz on Instagram @bonbuzTaste it: https://bonbuz.com We have a new website! “Who do I want to be in five years?” This is what Felix Cheung, AKA “Fat CheFelix” asked himself before he quit his successful career as a tech engineer to pursue his passion. With no professional experience, he moved to Melbourne where he started cooking and eventually gained a huge following both on and off-line. Felix continues his rise with sold-out pop-up dinners where he experiments with bold flavor combinations and locally sourced ingredients. There is no doubt that his next endeavor, a solo restaurant project in Melbourne, will be a hit. The restaurant is slated to open later this year and feature all the best of Felix's former menus. I sat down with Felix to ask him about his inspiration for cooking, his thoughts on local ingredients, and his advice for upcoming chefs. Our conversation ended up covering a lot more, including his decision-making process for taking risks and his outlook on life. Besides being an award-winning chef, Felix is the perfect example of what happens when you ignore the doubts and expectations, and pursue your dreams. First launched in Beijing and now in Shanghai, Baozza is becoming a hot trend. It's the perfect example of assimilation of cultures. Baozza is still a very traditional bao, made with great care to preserve its characteristic softness and fluffy texture. The pizza stuffing is also traditional because Alex uses imported Italian tomatoes and mozzarella to achieve the universal, beloved pizza flavor. “China doesn’t really have the dollar slice; it generally hasn’t been a really successful category,” Alex says. Baozza is looking to be a new category and even a substitute for pizza for some people. While some would see this as pushing boundaries just remember, never bet against Pizza! Check them out at www.baozza.com or reach out on WeChat at baozza, Instagram @baozza and Facebook at www.facebook.com/baozza You can finally find them at CityShop in Shanghai so you can ensure you have some stock at the office in case you have any immediate pizza cravings! The World Bank reported that China is set to produce twice as much waste as the US by 2030, and we ask ourselves: where will that all end up? Today, I'm joined with Jonathan Cruysberghs, Co-Founder of Feibao to discuss waste recycling in China and what we can do to help out. Feibao is a passion project that he co-founded in Shanghai in 2016 with Clement Saint Ellier. It links the waste we want to recycle with someone in the city who picks it up and will dispose or reuse it. It offers bins and containers for waste storage to offices, schools and compounds. Feibao has gained traction in Shanghai as it serves a dual purpose, while it is environmentally friendly, it also connects local collectors to a new income stream. In this episode, we discuss how Feibao is actively helping the F&B community in Shanghai and changing the waste management landscape one step at a time. If you're interested in learning more visit their website: http://www.feibaowaste.com/ Be part of the change by recommending F&B outlets to their WeChat: FeibaoWaste About the host: Emilie Steckenborn is based in Shanghai, China for the last six-plus years.
