Develop influence as a manager, or at any level, and you will be able to do more, deliver better results and be viewed as more valuable in your role. Build your influence at work and the great your effectiveness in your role and the greater your personal rewards. I share 5 principles for influencing others in the workplace. ---- ---- To influence people as a leader or manager, being competent at your job is a must. Do you WILLINGLY follow people you don't admire and respect? Do you willingly follow people you don't trust to do their jobs well? I don't think that I do. Influencing others starts with trust. The more trust you can build with those that you want to influence, the more influence you will have with those people. This is the power of influence and trust. How leaders influence people starts with becoming good at leading themselves. How well you know yourself, how confident you are to reveal weaknesses, how you manage your reactions and behaviours and more … are all part of leading yourself. We follow those that lead themselves better than we do. Work on your own self-awareness, self-management and emotional intelligence to influence more in the workplace. One of the most important principles in the art of influencing others is reciprocity or helping others before asking for help. Helping others creates influence. We like, trust and respect those that help us (generally) without strings attached. So go out of your way to help others, knowing that at some point in the future you will have that help returned. Helping others is an investment in your own productivity and investment. It is much easier persuading and influencing others when they are happy to be influenced by you. Leadership is having the courage to take risks and step into the unknown. A great starting point to building leadership skills for managers and your confidence is speaking up and sharing your opinions, ideas and solutions. Start small and build. Have the courage to use your voice every day and every week. Finally, a very important part of influencing others is building relationships. As mentioned before, we are a lot more open to being influenced by those we like and trust. Build positive personal and professional relationships with your team and bosses. I share who you should target and in which order. If you have any questions on “5 Principles To Develop Influence As A Manager”, please email me at support@enhance.training and I will get back to you. Jess Coles Enhance.training

Here's the crazy thing about storytelling – most of us do it all the time, so we think we know what it is. But at one point or another, we've all experienced storytelling at another level, and we know there's a lot more that goes into it than what we might think.Strategic Storytelling exists in forms you already recognize, but it also exists in a bigger form that you probably DON'T recognize, because hardly anybody ever talks about it. At one time or another we've all had a bad boss – whether it's through bullying and intimidation, unfair feedback or unrealistic workloads. Their behaviour sets the tone for what's acceptable in an organisation and can cause major issues for productivity, staff turnover and wellbeing, especially during difficult times like we're experiencing now. In a tough or toxic work environment, how can you challenge your thinking and shift perspective to make relationships work? I My guest today Michelle Gibbings has written a book Bad Boss: What to do if you work for one, manage one or are one where she draws upon decades of experience in corporate leadership to provide a practical transformation guide. In this book she covers all three perspectives: the direct report, the boss and the boss's boss, helping readers quickly identify where the issue lies, along with actionable steps to turn things around. Michelle says that bad bosses aren't always bad people, and it takes work at every level to create an environment where everyone can flourish. Michelle's previous books include ‘Step Up: How to Build Your Influence at Work', and ‘Career Leap: How to Reinvent and Liberate your Career'. She is a global keynote speaker, on a mission to help leaders, teams and organisations create successful workplaces - where people thrive, and progress is accelerated. Has the pandemic and The Great Resignation trend meant less willingness to accept a bad boss? Does remote or hybrid work shift the ways the “bad boss” dynamic operates and make it easier or harder to shift for those relationships? How can an employee improve their own voice and action change in a toxic workplace? How do you know if you are a bad boss in 2022? How can a business make sure that having an eye on simply creating profits and outputs are not the key to their management success? Take away: What is your final takeaway message for us on The Politics of Bad Bosses? It's hard to know where to start when it comes to getting publicity. You hear about all these amazing people who have become successful, but you don't know how they did it or what the steps are. In today's episode, Selena Soo tells us her story of how she was introduced to publicity and the events that led up to her creating her company, Impacting Millions. Despite Selena being a natural introvert, she discusses overcoming the fear of putting yourself out there and the amazing benefits that come with it. Throughout the episode, she lays out the framework for her high touch, one year program that provides a shortcut to landing amazing visibility opportunities. She walks you through each step of the process, from creating your message to finding the right media outlets, to pitching yourself successfully. What are you waiting for? Download Selena's Free Publicity Calendar:12 Months of Story Ideas to Win Over the Media: www.impactingmillions.com/allisoncalendarMemorable Moments:I find with the people that I work with, the reason why they're pursuing media is that they know they have something really important to share with the world, whether it's a really powerful story, a message, a product or a service that could really transform someone's life. So it's so important to remember that you're doing this, not for you, but to really make an impact in the lives of others.I am a perfectionist so I can understand overthinking things. But when I do a podcast interview, at the end of it or any kind of media interview I ask myself, did I show up generously? Was I present? Did I share information, stories, advice that could really help someone improve their life? And if the answer is yes, then I know that I've done a great jobI think there's nothing more inspiring than what I call a role model. But someone who really embodies a message of possibility and hope, who has maybe gone through the challenges that you are going through and has come out the other side of it and can show you how you can do the same.I think that sometimes we can feel so alone in our pain and our challenges, but the reality is that some of the things that we experience are experienced by thousands or even millions of people, there is a universal thread there. And it can be very healing for other people, it can help them kind of let go of some of the shame. So whenever we work with people in Impacting Millions and publicity in general, we just have them get really clear on what their goals and intentions are and make sure they get the right kind of publicity that matches their offers and business model.if you are never putting yourself out there, then I can kind of guarantee that you're not going to get those opportunities.Download the calendar: www.impactingmillions.com/allisoncalendarConnect with Allison: ⭐ Connect on Instagram @allisonwalsh⭐ JOIN THE SOCIETY: www.shebelievedsociety.com (use code 2022 to access the Society for $22/month)⭐ JOIN THE COMMUNITY: https://www.facebook.com/groups/shebelievedshecouldcommunity Follow Selena on Social Media: Website: selenasoo.comFacebook: @SelenaSooInstagram: @selena_sooTwitter: @selenasoo

In this week's podcast I have an interview with the very lovely Matt Johnson, who is an agency founder, podcaster and author of the book called “Micro Famous”. We talk all about not needing loads and loads of followers in order to be successful, using a niche and understanding who your customer is. KEY TAKEAWAYS COVERED IN THE PODCASTAttention spans are getting shorter – having something in your ear like a podcast whilst you are doing something else works really well. You don't have to have big numbers on social media to be successful. Micro famous is being famously influential to the right people. You have to decide what you really want – is it about fame? More content does not equal more sales. The algorithms have put a barrier between content creators and customers so we have to focus on engaging content. The three stages of influence – Get Seen, Get Noticed, Get Known. The aim is to get linked to the problem you solve. Become known for something but only to the people you want to serve – this is easier and faster. Ways of finding your niche – Create a new one or speak to an existing one. Find what people are right from you and create content that speaks to them. If you don't know how you have got somewhere, you won't be able to go back and fix it. You can't count on authenticity to grow your business but you can still show up and be authentic. Not all forms of visibility are congruent with your expertise. Podcasts are brilliant if you sell ideas because your audience can listen and engage with you for a long time. Podcasts are also really good if you prefer talking to writing. Podcasting creates demand because you can take your audience on a journey – you are their leader. Appearing on other podcasts helps to reach new people who are looking for solutions. Reach out to other podcasters and pitch yourself. THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO REMEMBER ABOVE ALL ELSE… Find a podcast you can pitch yourself on and just go for it! If you have never done it before, you may be surprised how much you enjoy it and the potential growth to your business. How are you doing? I hate starting the podcast, honestly. Like I try and find something different to say every time and I can't, it's really irritating and I feel like it must be irritating for you to hear me start the same way. So, yeah. Sorry about maybe that's how I should start it every time. I just like saying I hate having to start the podcast. Anyway, let me go back to being professional. But it is tough. And if you do a podcast, let me know. I think it's hard to try and think of something different to say. Anyway, I am batching episodes today. I've been really bad recently, and I don't mind admitting to you that my head has not been in like a great space in terms of getting work done, because I think we all go through this at times and there's been so much going on in the world. And I think you have talked about it in a couple of episodes back that I was struggling a bit. But I'm giving myself a serious kick up the backside. And today I am batching three episodes all in one go because then, one I get into the flow of it. It works quicker. It happens easier and ideas do flow. When you batch contents, if you've never done it before, I'm sure I've done an episode. So I will find the episode and link to it in the show notes, but do go check it out because batching really is helpful in terms of creating content. And sometimes we do just need to give ourselves a kick out the backside and say, get on with it enough now. So...

In this episode we move onto mistake number 3, failing to build influence. This is a big mistake and I’ve made it several times in my career. I think it goes hand in hand with the mistake of 'playing it small' because when we play it small we tend to operate in a small world. We interact with those who'll help us get the job done, and those who we’re friends with. We tend to ‘keep our head down’ and avoid the limelight. I can describe all of this so well because I practiced it to perfection - I used to call it ‘flying under the radar’ this might sound clever and I guess that was my way of justifying it. For years in my early career I limited my sphere of influence, because that kept me in my comfort zone, but I also wanted the career success that you only see when you move beyond your usual boundaries and get uncomfortable. And therein lies the challenge that many of us face. If we want to be successful we have to get uncomfortable - very uncomfortable - and we have to get used to that feeling - almost learn to embrace it!
In this episode, I am talking to LinkedIn expert Brittany Krystle about why you need to jump on this platform NOW!

We share the three simple steps that you will need to take to build your influence and credibility and we go over how to get started. If you want to be an influencer, you can get there by being a good listener and helping as many people as possible. Here are three steps that we found to be critical to building our own influence over the years. In today’s episode, we’re sharing these steps with you. Read below to get the outline of what we talked about, then listen to hear the details. Three Steps to Influence and Credibility Step One: Build a community of peers You need a tribe of peers, and of champions to get to the next level. No one ever got to the top alone. Interact online and get to know people and talk to people on a regular basis. Go to conferences and events. This is a great way to connect with others in your niche. Make sure to follow up and keep in touch to see how you can help them. Find the right events using word-of-mouth or an online search for local, national and international events in your niche. Listen to your community when they talk about the events they’re attending because those are the people you want to meet. Use the event hashtag to connect with community members ahead of a conference or summit. Check out local events through MeetUp and on the events tab within Facebook. Step Two: Create valuable content Content draws people to you. You should be creating content regularly. Start a blog, podcast, YouTube channel, Twitter chat or local event and participate with others. Write guest posts, be a guest on podcasts and show up to Twitter chats to consistently create content that adds value and focus in a niche. There are so many ways to create content. The type of content that’s best depends on your interest. Consistency is hugely important, no matter how you share content. Experiment with the best time to content, what works for you and what best serves your community. Become known for one or two topics and continue to build on that. Don’t dilute your passion with too many things. Whatever niche you choose, you have to be passionate about continuing with it for a long time. Step Three: Find a mentor Learn from someone who is already doing what you want to be doing. You can find a mentor a number of ways. Make a list of people and ask them. They may already have a program or opportunity you can benefit from. You can also join a course or mastermind. Adopt the mind of a student and be helpful. It really makes you stand out. A mentor can be someone you look up to and learn from without them actually mentoring you. Books and podcasts can be helpful as well. Paid mentorships are often worth it. You gain someone’s time gain a lot from the experience. Quick Tips to build your influence and credibility: Be consistent Be present Build relationships Show you care Realize you can’t do everything alone Tools, apps and links mentioned: Social Media Marketing podcast Meetup Company of One Zirtual (tell them Kami sent you) Take Action What are you doing to build your influence and credibility? Are you looking to build your influence in order to have a greater impact with your online business? On today’s episode I’m super pumped to bring you my friend Julie Solomon, who is an expert in this field. Julie is the host of The Influencer Podcast, which is one of the top podcasts in the Business category on iTunes (in fact, her show is one of the few that I make sure to listen to regularly)! J ulie is also a New York Times best selling publicist, and an influencer marketing educator. I asked her to come on the podcast to share her expertise on building influence, and she delivers in a big way. If you’re using Facebook Ads to build your business, but frustrated that they’re not working, one reason I’ve seen for this is that a lot of people haven’t done the work to position themselves as a go-to resource in their respective niche. Julie shares strategies for building influence today, without it being overwhelming, and she breaks it down into 3 simple questions to ask yourself. She talks about how to get brand deals when you don’t have a ton of followers or fans as well. Julie reveals how influence marketing is changing the marketing game, and I even ask her for her thoughts on why the word “Influencer” comes with such a negative connotation. You’re going to also find out how to equate ROI as an influencer, why brand awareness is such a problem for so many people online today, how to fix this issue, and so much more. Before we start the show, I’ve got something to ask. How do you listen to this podcast? Is it in the iTunes app, Stitcher, Spotify or maybe iHeart Radio? Do you listen to it at regular speed, or maybe like me you listen to your podcasts at 1.5X speed? I want to know! Take a screenshot of you tuning in to The Art of Paid Traffic, and include it on your Instagram Story, while tagging me, @RickMulready! Want to win a 30-minute strategy session with me? I’ll be drawing one winner at random each month, and all you have to do is give me your feedback on this podcast over at http://rickmulready.com/messenger, telling me what you’d like to hear more of - including topics you’d like to see covered, guests, style and frequency of the show! On the Show Today You’ll Learn: • A gap Julie noticed with influencer marketing and how she used her own business as a case study to test strategies for building influence • The way she got started building online courses • Why Julie started her podcast and how she made it so successful • The first question she always asks someone who identifies herself or himself as an influencer • What problem Julie discovered that she’s really solving for others • How to know what platform to be on and why it’s so important to be operating in your zone of genius • What she considers to be the difference between a successful online entrepreneur and someone who isn’t one
In this episode you'll discover: How to Attract an Endless Stream of Dream Clients to Work With You! Because when you own your reputation you: Actively seek to understand how others see you, and how you see yourself Identify where there are gaps between your desired reputation and your actual reputation Consciously construct a reputation that works for you in the long term, by being positively and sustainably developed Realise that maintaining a positive and progressive reputation requires work – daily Don't take your reputation for granted Every day, Benjamin Franklin asked himself two questions: In the morning – “What good shall I do today?” and in the evening – “What good have I done today?” When not running her own successful practice, or managing her predictably mischievous pup Barney, Michelle sits on the Board of the Arts Law Council of Australia and somehow finds time to venture to hidden, exotic pockets of the planet with her husband and best friend, Craig. One of the most common misconceptions we all have about leadership is that it’s the same thing as authority, according to lead pastor of North Point Community Church, Clay Scroggins. During his 10-year tenure at the Alpharetta, GA-based megachurch, Clay has learned that nothing could be further from the truth. Instead, he has come to the conclusion that the real currency of leadership has nothing at all to do with being in charge but rather with influence. And that’s really great news, because every single one of us has the ability to be influential. The key is first figuring out who you are. Change is inevitable, especially in the workplace. Today's guest is an author who has spent over 20 years leading individuals and businesses, both public and private, through the process of change. Michelle Gibbings has learnt that being a person of influence isn't just something you're born with, but is a skill that can be developed and change is a catalyst of its development. As we chat to Michelle, we explore different case studies within the experience of change in the workplace. We also explore the skill of reversing with trailers. To some, it's a no-brainer, but to many, like Susie, it's a mystery yet to be solved. Inspired by a female, yes female, friend who conquered the challenge with a near perfect, straight reverse park with a trailer, Susie is just about ready to revisit the challenge. Perhaps another chat with Michelle might be in order, because this is going to be one big experience of skill development.
