Today on the podcast we are featuring the Los Angeles-based artist NEMSIS. Learn more about her and listen to her track “INNOV8!.” Artist Biography: NEMSIS' aim is to entertain and uplift the hip-hop culture creatively. The Los Angeles-born emcee acquired her stage name, Nemesis, in the early 2000s as she honed her lyrical blade in battles and sessions on the schoolyard. The word nemesis is defined as an unconquerable opponent. So, finding disparity between the ideals that founded hip hop and the pop hip hop that degraded those ideals, Nemesis was emboldened to go worlds beyond mainstream hip hop lyrics, while still delivering the swag and entertainment value that popular hip hop garners. Just popping in to give you a heads up. This podcast contains paid promotional content. That means we were compensated for the feature. On appelle ça l'IoT, l'Internet of Things. Et si l'IoT made in France était possible ?

“There are always two roads which will emerge for an entrepreneur, and you have to take the one less travelled.” – Dr Ritesh Malik Our guest today is a person who has donned many hats – an entrepreneur, an investor, a public speaker, and a doctor. In a candid conversation with Akshay Datt, Dr Ritesh Malik, Founder, Innov8 Coworking, takes us through his amazing journey. Hailing from a family of doctors, his career was pre-decided. He studied medicine and started practising as a surgeon at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi. It was in 2012, he decided to quit his medical profession and took the less travelled entrepreneurial route and ventured into an augmented reality start-up AdStuck as its co-founder, an experience that made him learn the art of entrepreneurship in a hard way. He also founded Guerrilla Ventures, an angel fund, in 2013, with an aim to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of entrepreneurs and has backed 70+ start-ups to date. Irked by the office conditions in India, Ritesh came up with an idea of coworking spaces and started Innov8 Coworking in January 2016. Soon after the launch, Innov8 was selected by Silicon Valley incubator Y Combinator, where he was guided to expand to larger campuses. This attracted investors and since then Innov8 has expanded to 42 campuses across 8 major cities in India. Tune in to this episode to hear this medicine professional turned entrepreneur and angel investor speak about how Innov8 Coworking is transforming the office going experience in India. What you must not miss! A great product is everything. Treat consumers like God. The power of community. Acquisition by OYO Rooms. What he looks for in a venture as an investor.

Companies need to be innovative to get their brands noticed – among customers, partners, employees – and ultimately to thrive from a business perspective. And this concern for innovation shows, at least on paper. In 2012, a report by The Wall Street Journal that remains relevant and cited today reported interesting infographics: over 250 books published in the last 90 days had the word “innovation” in the title, 43% of the companies surveyed had a Chief Innovation Officer, and the term “innovation” was one of the most used words in financial reports of U.S. public companies. In sum, we have been hearing the term “innovation” everywhere and have been made to believe in its importance for almost two decades. Yet, while we all have a sense that innovation is not the privilege of the Silicon Valley, MIT, or Japanese research labs, and that it does not necessarily relate only to product features, the actual meaning of the notion remains somehow nebulous and difficult to pin down.So who else than the innovation culture guru Duncan Wardle, based in the U.S., to talk about this essential topic today? Having worked at Disney for 25 years, most recently as Head of Innovation and Creativity, Duncan now serves as an independent innovation consultant, and founder of the company ID8 & Innov8, helping companies embed a culture of innovation and creativity. His unique process called “Design Thinking” helps people capture unlikely connections, leading to both fresh thinking and revolutionary ideas. Leaning on his experience at Disney, Duncan's unique approach not only places the end user at the core of the creative process but also looks in new places to uncover insights for innovation and truly disruptive ideas. Unsurprisingly, Duncan is a multiple Ted X speaker and contributor to Fast Company magazine. He teaches Innovation and Design Thinking Masterclasses at various universities including Yale University, in the U.S. This episode of Brand&New is sponsored by Brainbase.Every two weeks, on Tuesday, Brand & New gives the floor to inspiring individuals, with a 360-degree vision, to help brand owners, intellectual property lawyers, and marketing and finance professionals (and beyond!) stay curious and agile in an ever-evolving business environment. Aaron Walker is a businessman and life coach who has inspired many through his leadership, mentorship and consistent pursuit of excellence. 35 years of entrepreneurship and marriage have given Aaron a wealth of valuable experience. Aaron is currently on his twelfth venture as an entrepreneur – that's right, twelfth. He is the founder of View From the Top, a coaching service and community that aims to help men live a life of success and significance. Aaron is an authority on leadership and what it takes to lead a holistic, successful life. In this interview, Aaron discusses how grit and determination have paid off, how he helps ordinary men become extraordinary, how to live a successful and significant life, and the power of Masterminds and community. “I'm helping ordinary men become extraordinary, and we do it in a holistic fashion. We don't do it just in business and we don't do it just in life. We do it in both, because I think they're inseparable.” Retirement doesn't agree with Aaron. He has retired three different times – sometimes because of success, sometimes because of traumatic events – but not working always makes him (and his wife) unhappy. After his most recent retirement, Aaron was invited by Dan Miller to speak at an http://www.48days.com/liveevents/innovate/ (Innov8) event. “I'm having more fun today than I've ever had in my life.” Before Aaron was in a car accident, he was very successful. However, the accident helped him realize that, while he had great success, he had no significance. Nobody cared about his success but him and his family, but he realized he wanted to leave a legacy of people happy to have known him. “I don't believe in failure. I believe you either succeed or you learn.” For Aaron, success means: Choosing his schedule Having and engaging family and meaningful relationships Having a clear conscience with every transaction that he does Aaron also believes that you can easily define significance: it is meeting the needs of others. Success has something to do with you, significance has something to mean for others. “I want to learn to be content, but not complacent.” Relationships are everything. Literally. For example, Aaron is in the construction business, and he formed an alliance of sorts with his competitors. By pooling resources, they all saved money – and in the process, they also support a number of local tradesmen. Now all of the people in the alliance are more successful, and they're friends. “When you start helping, you start sharing, then what it does is it drops the veil and everybody starts helping. There's enough business for everybody, but we have this mentality that the pie is only so big, but there's nothing further from the truth.” Aaron brought a gift for the Impact Entrepreneur audience. It is a personal assessment that dives into your identity, ideals, relationship, career and faith. Answering the questions can help you think, and help you realize what it is that you want. Go to ViewFromTheTop.com/Impact to pick up your own copy of the personal assessment, and hopefully they will help you live more successfully and significantly. I am extremely thankful to Aaron, or Big A as he is sometimes called, for sharing so much with us all. He is an incredibly generous person, and he has a lot of valuable lessons to teach the Impact Entrepreneur audience. -- This episode is brought to you by SY Partners and Unstuck, helping you make a change by identifying the things holding you up. There s an old saying in business that s half joke and half warning and can be applied to any location. In this case let s say Acadiana. "Do you know how to make a small fortune in Lafayette Start with a big one." Of course it s much easier to lose money than to make it, but the fear of failure doesn t scare off the usually young person with real entrepreneurial fire in their belly. The trick is channeling enthusiasm and passion into channels that will result in less talk and more business. The Opportunity Machine launched in 2009 to help Lafayette entrepreneurs turn ideas into reality. The Opportunity Machine, as its title suggests, give entrepreneurs opportunities to access classes and expertise from successful local business people in every aspect of building a company from making and marketing a product to doing your taxes. The Executive Director of The Opportunity Machine is Zach Barker. Pete Prados is the Director of Innov8 Acadiana. The number 8 in Innov8 represents the 8 parishes in Acadiana. Innov8 has helped develop and find financing for a number of fascinating startup businesses, some of which we ve featured on previous editions of Out to Lunch, including Wade Cl ment s Lift Horse and Wayne Nix s Nix Tool. There are many more, some of which Pete tells Peter on this edition of Out to Lunch. Dr. Blake Escudier defies the laws of physics by being in 3 places at once. Sitting at his desk in his office in Lafayette, Blake is an online professor of marketing at Kaplan University, and teaches the MBA program online at the University of Fredericton in New Brunswick, Canada. Among a long list of impressive academic business exploits, Blake previously taught consumer behavior to students in Silicon Valley at San Jose University. If you ve got an idea for a business in Acadiana or you want to know what business plans other people around here are hatching, check out this conversation. Photos at Charley G s by Gwendolyn Aucoin.
