C'est une histoire d'amour, de vie et de mort. Sur quel autre trépied la littérature danse-t-elle depuis des siècles ? Dans Son odeur après la pluie, ce trépied, de surcroît, est instable car il unit deux êtres n'appartenant pas à la même espèce : un homme et son chien. Un bouvier bernois qui, en même temps qu'il grandit, prend, dans tous les sens du terme, une place toujours plus essentielle dans la vie du narrateur. Ubac, c'est son nom (la recherche du juste nom est à elle seule une aventure), n'est pas le personnage central de ce livre, Cédric Sapin-Defour, son maître, encore moins. D'ailleurs, il ne veut pas qu'on le considère comme un maître. Le héros, c'est leur lien. Ce lien unique, évident et, pour qui l'a exploré, surpassant tellement d'autres relations. Ce lien illisible et inutile pour ceux à qui la compagnie des chiens n'évoque rien. Au gré de treize années de vie commune, le lecteur est invité à tanguer entre la conviction des uns et l'incompréhension voire la répulsion des autres ; mais nul besoin d'être un homme à chiens pour être pris par cette histoire car si pareil échange est inimitable, il est tout autant universel. Certaines pages, Ubac pue le chien, les suivantes, on oublie qu'il en est un et l'on observe ces deux êtres s'aimant tout simplement. C'est bien d'amour dont il est question. Un amour incertain, sans réponse mais qui, se passant de mots, nous tient en haleine. C'est bien de vie dont il est question. Une vie intense, inquiète et rieuse où tout va plus vite et qu'il s'agit de retenir. C'est bien de mort dont il est question. Cette chose dont on ne voudrait pas mais qui donne à l'existence toute sa substance. Et ce fichu manque. Ces griffes que l'on croit entendre sur le plancher et cette odeur, malgré la pluie, à jamais disparue.

L'émission 28 Minutes du 03/07/2024 Quand un homme rend hommage à son chien disparu : le livre phénomène ! Professeur d'éducation physique, amoureux de la montagne et du ski de randonnée, Cédric Sapin-Defour est né dans l'Aube et a grandi dans l'Ain. Il a alors huit ans quand il découvre Chamonix et l'Aiguille du Midi. Un vrai choc esthétique. La montagne ne le quittera plus. Il va alors consacrer ses premiers livres à cet univers : "Je n'ai pas trouvé mieux pour prolonger ce moment.” Mais ce qui va le révéler au grand public, c'est le récit de sa relation avec son chien, Ubac, dont la mort l'a dévasté en 2017. Il raconte ses treize années de compagnonnage avec son Bouvier bernois dans “Son odeur après la pluie”, publié en 2023 chez Stock, un incroyable succès avec déjà plus de 400 000 exemplaires vendus, qui sublime la relation entre un homme et son animal. “Dans notre société, le deuil d'un animal ne vaut pas très cher. Alors on le tait, on masque notre tristesse. Et puis on s'entend dire "tu vas en reprendre un” et c'est insupportable !” Cédric Sapin-Defour est notre invité. Orban, Meloni, Le Pen : l'alliance des extrêmes droites qui pourrait changer l'Europe ?  Depuis le 1er Juillet, Viktor Orban est le président du Conseil de l'Union européenne. Il le sera pour six mois, avec un slogan choc qui donne le ton : "Make Europe Great Again" qui rappelle la devise "Make America Great Again", popularisée par Donald Trump. La Hongrie prend donc la tête de l'UE au moment où le RN de Marine Le Pen est aux portes du pouvoir en France et que l'italienne Giorgia Meloni a triomphé aux élections européennes. Cette configuration pourrait permettre aux trois leaders de créer un groupe majeur d'extrême droite au sein de l'UE, une alliance qui aurait d'autant plus de poids que deux de ses membres seraient issus de deux pays fondateurs de l'Europe. Viktor Orban a d'ores et déjà lancé ce week-end avec le leader d'extrême droite autrichien, Herbert Kickl (FPÖ) et l'ancien dirigeant tchèque Andrej Babiš (ANO), une nouvelle alliance politique baptisée "Patriotes pour l'Europe". Leur but est de remodeler les institutions européennes et de réorienter la politique sur l'immigration, les politiques vertes et la guerre en Ukraine. Alors, cette configuration inédite peut-elle remettre en cause des engagements majeurs européens ? In een nieuwe Radio Radzinski analyseren we samen met oud-speler Steven Defour het spel van paars-wit en gaan we dieper in op zijn turbulente overstap naar het Astridpark. “Toen Herman Van Holsbeeck mij vroeg om naar Anderlecht te komen, dacht ik meteen: ‘Jij bent gek, hier gaat zoveel shit van komen'."Op 20 april 2008 wordt Standard thuis kampioen tegen Anderlecht dankzij twee goals van Dieumerci Mbokani. En dat voor het eerst in meer dan 25 jaar. Aan de boorden van de Maas barst een volksfeest los, eentje waar aanvoerder Steven Defour meer dan terecht een hoofdrol in speelt. Een grote mond met een klein hartje Maar wie overloopt van vreugde, komt al eens tot een explosieve verbale woordenbrij. “Anderlecht heeft een grote mond en dat wisten wij. Maar vandaag hebben we getoond dat ze hun mond moeten houden,” verklaart een opgenaaide Defour met blond meches iets na affluiten in de kleedkamer. “Ja, een hele week lang hadden wij uitspraken vanuit Brussel gebruikt als brandstof om ons klaar te stomen voor die titelmatch. Wij stonden zeven punten los en dan verklaren er een paar gasten dat ze ons een lesje zouden komen leren. Ik dacht: ‘Dit kan wel echt niet'. Nu goed, ik had zo'n dingen beter niet gezegd, maar het was wel wat iedereen bij ons in de ploeg toen dacht.”Zestien jaar na datum kunnen Rein en Godfried hem die arrogante uitspraken wel vergeven, ook al omdat ze later als een boemerang in zijn gezicht zijn teruggekeerd. Na twee titels op rij met Standard en een Gouden Schoen bouwt de Mechelaar zijn carrière verder uit bij FC Porto.Persuasieve Proto en Van HolsbeeckDe eerste seizoenen verlopen prima, maar het derde jaar belandt hij meer dan hem lief is op de bank. In de zomer van 2014 vraagt de verdedigende middenvelder aan zijn makelaar om uit te kijken naar een andere club. PSV is geïnteresseerd, maar haakt uiteindelijk af. Toenmalig sportief manager van Anderlecht Herman Van Holsbeeck ruikt zijn kans.“Op een dag krijg ik telefoon van Herman met de vraag of ik niet naar Anderlecht wil komen. Het eerste wat ik dacht was: ‘Jij bent compleet zot, daar gaat alleen maar shit van komen'. Maar Herman hield vol en na een paar gesprekken met onder andere Silvio Proto heb ik toch getekend. Want ik wou voetballen en was ervan overtuigd dat ik mij met goede prestaties wel in de harten van de supporters zou kunnen spelen.”Maar ondanks een goede start met een goal op het veld van Club Brugge, wordt Defour nooit echt aanvaard door de fans. “Praet, Tielemans en Dendoncker zetten toen de stap richting basiselftal. De Neerpede-jeugd is heilig voor de Anderlechtsupporter. Da's mooi om zien, maar daardoor zat er wel wat weinig gif in die ploeg. En bij foutjes werd er door mijn verleden altijd naar mij gekeken. Dat was frustrerend, aangezien ik best wel een goed seizoen aan het spelen was.”De druppel bier die de emmer doet overlopen Aan het begin van zijn derde seizoen heeft Defour er zijn buik van vol. “Na een gewonnen match op bezoek bij Moeskroen krijg ik van een supporter bier over mijn hoofd gegooid.  Dat was letterlijk en figuurlijk de druppel. Ik heb toen tegen Herman (Van Holsbeeck, red.) gezegd dat ik weg wou. Tutto inizia nel 2003 quando Cédric legge sul giornale che c'è una cucciolata di dodici bovari bernesi a disposizione. Nonostante abbia sofferto in passato per la morte di un altro cane, lo scrittore decide di andare all'allevamento e qui avviene l'incontro quasi magico con il cucciolo, destinato a diventare un vero e proprio compagno di vita.

Carbon-Free TrucksThe European Green Deal, passed in 2020, sets policy initiatives approved by the European Commission to boost efficient use of resources to green, clean, circular economy and stop climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. Reducing emissions from the transportation sector is an important part of the EU's 2050 zero-emission goal, as the transportation sector accounts for 25% of emissions in the EU.New carbon emission reduction targets approved by the European Commission set an emissions reduction goal of 90%, compared to 2019 levels, for new trucks by 2040. The reduction pathway includes a series of five year incremental targets, starting with a 4% reduction by 2030. This will require the majority of heavy-duty vehicles to switch to electric power, while allowing some to continue using combustion power. Currently, there are 6.2 million trucks in the EU and 99% of them are powered by fossil fuels, with an average lifespan of 14 years. The commission also estimates 70% of newly sold trucks by 2030 will be diesel powered.Challenges and Push Backs to the New TargetsThese new targets face numerous challenges and considerable pushback from the fossil fuel and traditional trucking industries. Because some European regions will be hard to electrify, some parts of Europe may be excluded from the regulation.  Other concerns include  range insecurity for long-distance trucking, the lack of sufficient EV charging infrastructure,  high electricity prices and tariffs,  electricity grid congestion which limits installation of charging points,  and uneven distribution of charging stations (half of all public EV charging points in the EU are located in the Netherlands and Germany). To combat this problem the EU adopted the Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation requiring electric charging infrastructure with a minimum output of 350 kW every 60 km along the TEN-T core network, and charging points every 100 km on the larger TEN-T comprehensive network starting in 2025, and aiming for complete network coverage by 2030.  This regulation also requires charging points to be installed in urban areas for delivery vehicles and in safe and secure parking areas for overnight recharging. While truck manufacturers have argued that  the transition is happening too quickly, the European Commission considered but did not adopt  a 100% emissions reduction target.  Environmentalists also raised concerns with the regulations as new carbon emitting trucks built in 2040, will still be on the road in 2050 inhibiting the ability for the EU to reach net zero targets for 2050. One manufacturing company leading the way, is the Swedish truck manufacturer AB Volvo which began producing a series of electric trucks in 2022, and aims for half of its global truck deliveries to be electric by 2030.About Our GuestSofie Defour is the freight director at Transport and Environment, an international secretariat and European advisory agency based in Brussels with a vision for a zero-emission mobility system. Joshua DeFour is a former Marine and military Veteran film maker.  As a student of film at the University of Texas he made the short film, The 11th Order, that follows that last minutes of the lives of two young Marines.  He was inspired by the speech "Six Seconds to Live" that was given by General John Kelly to Gold Star Families shortly after the loss of his own son in combat.

Joshua DeFour is a Marine Corps Veteran and director of The 11th Order,  a short film that showcased the heroic actions of Lance Corporal Jordan Haerter and Corporal Jonathan Yale in Ramadi, Iraq.
