Send us a textThe Whitewater investigation takes a giant leap as Attorney General Janet Reno appoints a Special Prosecutor to look into the case coming out of Arkansas. Former Watergate House Judiciary Committee staffer Bernard Nussbaum is now the assistant legal counsel to the President and his advice is not "No but Hell No!1 Mr. President, don't do that!" But it fell on deaf ears as Democratic Senators put pressure on the White House to take the step and allow a Special Prosecutor to be appointed. At first Clinton got lucky. Janet Reno appointed Robert Fiske to oversee the job. He may actually be the one and only Special Prosecutor in the history of its existence who was willing to look at a case and render a nonpartisan fair judgement, which he did, that nothing had happened in Arkansas involving President and Mrs. Clinton, and that Vince Foster had, in fact, committed suicide. He got fired for saying it. Not in so many words, but the Special Counsel statue had run out and Republicans worked to get it renewed. When it was renewed Janet Reno recommended that Fiske remain the Special Prosecutor and be allowed to finish his report. They removed him, and replaced him with Kenneth Starr instead. A former Israeli soldier testified that on October 7th 2023, the day of the Hamas attacks, troops were unexpectedly ordered to cancel all border patrols and stand down between 5:20 and 9:00 a.m., despite Gaza being one of the most heavily surveilled areas in the world. this strange directive raised serious doubts, especially since the attack began just over an hour later, and the official explanation about a sniper threat didn't add up for soldiers stationed close to the fence.  Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger present a broader theory that Israeli leadership, including Netanyahu, intentionally empowered Hamas over more moderate Palestinian factions to justify military action and territorial expansion. The soldier, now injured and reflecting on the events, expressed confusion, betrayal, and a desire for the truth, believing that the attacks were used as a political pretext at great human cost. Plus segments on Democratic Senator and former intelligence operative Elissa Slotkin pushing the BS lie to Stephen Colbert that the CIA are just regular patriotic folks doing their best to help keep Americans safe and Donald Trump denying disaster relief to any state or city that boycotts Israel. It smacks of ageism and the same kind of "took the bait" group-think the right lambasts Beltway media over when it's "RussiaGate" or "the dossier." Meanwhile, someone I'm still going to insist should be considered for a Presidential movement (til he says he absolutely won't do it) is 'The Daily Show' Monday host Jon Stewart. He and author ("Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza" ) Peter Beinart - two Jewish American men - had such a profound conversation last Monday - about Netenyahu's bloodlust and the long-range ramifications on Israeli safety and security - I felt it worthy of revisiting. Just more reason I see Stewart as a "Trump elixir" for most of non-MAGA America. C"mon, Jon.------Stacey Abrams also isn't running for governor - here in Georgia - at least not yet. A recent interview with NPR's Tanya Mosley about her latest novel, "Coded Justice" naturally led Mosley to ask while she had Abrams on. The TL:DR is she's "not ruling it out." Meanwhile, an Abrams-led organization - Fair Fight Action - is working to counter-act state government-led voter purges by providing an online search tool to help Georgia registered voters check their standing. ------Georgia Recorder op/ed columnist Jay Bookman penned a response piece denouncing Lieutenant Governor (and 2026 gubernatorial candidate) Burt Jones' pitch to have Georgia ditch the state income tax. Bookman used liberal tools - facts, math and data - to make a cogent argument against Jones' scheme to put a greater burden on the poor and working class to fund the state's budget.------There's movement in the tussle to succeed U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. Thirty-year old state representative Houston Gaines has tossed his hat in the ring. On the left is Lexy Doherty, but there are rumors a conservative Democrat from Hall County is set to announce his run, too, but until verified, there's little to do but speculate. ------Georgia's two Democratic Senators joined a Bernie Sanders-led push to limit military aid to Israel. When Oregon lawmakers convened in January to kick off the 2025 legislative session, among their top legislative priorities was a transportation funding fix for the state’s aging bridges, highways and roads. But the Democratic supermajority failed to get a transportation package over the legislative finish line when the session adjourned on Friday night.    Democrats waited until the last month to unveil HB 2025, which would have generated nearly $12 billion over the next decade through a mix of taxes and fees, including hikes in the state’s gas tax and a new tax on vehicle sales. Republicans balked at the proposal, including several who had been working with Democrats on transportation funding.     Defections emerged among Democratic lawmakers as well, most notably from state Sen. Mark Meek, D-Gladstone, a member of the Joint Committee on Transportation Reinvestment. Senate President Rob Wagner, D-Lake Oswego, removed Meek from the committee on June 20 to boost the bill’s chance of passage. But on Friday, Democrats conceded they didn’t have the votes to pass it, and they had to abandon a last-ditch effort to raise the state’s gas tax by 3 cents to avert looming layoffs at the Oregon Department of Transportation.    Sen. Donald Trump's illegal deportations are running into more trouble. A federal judge just declared there's probable cause to find the administration in criminal contempt over the removal of Venezuelans to El Salvador.
