Leadership is about doing the right thing. Leaders must be deaf to expediency where principle is involved. What 8 Democratic Senators did in voting with the Republicans may have led to an ending of the U.S. government shutdown, but was not the right thing. It was capitulation. It was a cave in. They achieved little, if anything. They agreed to a future vote on ACA tax credits without the votes to prevail. A failure of leadership. The Democrats were winning. The American people supported them. Yet they caved in.
Democrats and Republicans may seem worlds apart politically, but both parties are running into a similar problem – getting pushed into uncomfortable positions. Less than a week after election wins across the country, it only took 7 Democratic Senators and one Independent to wipe away the feeling of victory and instead cave to Trump and the GOP's bullying on the government shutdown. Republicans, however, have their own problems as exposed by the rift over Tucker Carlson embracing far-right antagonist Nick Fuentes. In Harrisburg, key legislative leaders appear to be in agreement on a budget deal, which would end Pennsylvania's months-long budget impasse. The news broke late last night - and legislators in both chambers are expected to return this morning to approve the deal. Meantime in Washington, the Senate passed a bill to reopen the federal government late Sunday night, and the House is expected to take their first look at the bill today. In order to pass the budget bill, eight Democratic Senators broke rank with their party to reach a deal with Republicans to end the federal government shutdown. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was among them. Some House members from Pennsylvania say it was a bad idea. Environmentalists have filed a lawsuit to stop the expansion of a major natural gas pipeline system in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The project would include ten miles of new pipe in Lancaster County and an expanded compressor station in Chester County. A 27-year-old Carlisle woman is being charged with murder in connection with the death of her daughter. Annjalee Nunez is being charged more than two years after her 2-year-old daughter died from fentanyl toxicity. An EMS funding crisis is forcing some Berks County communities to consider new taxes or fees. Only about a dozen of Berks County's 72 municipalities have a designated EMS tax, according to reporting by our partners at Spotlight PA. A popular area state park campground will be closing for upgrades next year. Gifford Pinchot State Park, located in York County, will close its campground after Labor Day in September of 2026 and remain closed through 2027. An end to the 40-day government shutdown is now in sight after 8 Democratic Senators joined Republicans to advance a bill to reopen the government through January 30. Part of the deal will require Republican leadership to hold a December vote on extending Obamacare subsidies. Without a guaranteed outcome, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) did not support the deal to reopen the government. House lawmakers will return to Washington this week, with the measure expected to easily pass the lower chamber.President Donald Trump has pardoned more than 70 prominent figures involved in challenging the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, including Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows. The document states that “this proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated upon the American people following the 2020 Presidential Election and continues the process of national reconciliation.” The proclamation also states the pardon does not apply to Trump himself.The United States is marking the 250th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps on Monday. At the Marine Corps Birthday Ball in Washington on Sunday, Vice President JD Vance, a Marine veteran himself, praised the Corps' enduring strength. Across the country, communities are honoring 250 years of service with parades, flyovers, and special tributes to Marines past and present. There are currently more than 200,000 active duty and reserve Marines serving in the United States.

Send us a textThe Whitewater investigation takes a giant leap as Attorney General Janet Reno appoints a Special Prosecutor to look into the case coming out of Arkansas. Former Watergate House Judiciary Committee staffer Bernard Nussbaum is now the assistant legal counsel to the President and his advice is not "No but Hell No!1 Mr. President, don't do that!" But it fell on deaf ears as Democratic Senators put pressure on the White House to take the step and allow a Special Prosecutor to be appointed. At first Clinton got lucky. Janet Reno appointed Robert Fiske to oversee the job. He may actually be the one and only Special Prosecutor in the history of its existence who was willing to look at a case and render a nonpartisan fair judgement, which he did, that nothing had happened in Arkansas involving President and Mrs. Clinton, and that Vince Foster had, in fact, committed suicide. He got fired for saying it. Not in so many words, but the Special Counsel statue had run out and Republicans worked to get it renewed. When it was renewed Janet Reno recommended that Fiske remain the Special Prosecutor and be allowed to finish his report. They removed him, and replaced him with Kenneth Starr instead. A former Israeli soldier testified that on October 7th 2023, the day of the Hamas attacks, troops were unexpectedly ordered to cancel all border patrols and stand down between 5:20 and 9:00 a.m., despite Gaza being one of the most heavily surveilled areas in the world. this strange directive raised serious doubts, especially since the attack began just over an hour later, and the official explanation about a sniper threat didn't add up for soldiers stationed close to the fence. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger present a broader theory that Israeli leadership, including Netanyahu, intentionally empowered Hamas over more moderate Palestinian factions to justify military action and territorial expansion. The soldier, now injured and reflecting on the events, expressed confusion, betrayal, and a desire for the truth, believing that the attacks were used as a political pretext at great human cost. When Oregon lawmakers convened in January to kick off the 2025 legislative session, among their top legislative priorities was a transportation funding fix for the state’s aging bridges, highways and roads. But the Democratic supermajority failed to get a transportation package over the legislative finish line when the session adjourned on Friday night. Democrats waited until the last month to unveil HB 2025, which would have generated nearly $12 billion over the next decade through a mix of taxes and fees, including hikes in the state’s gas tax and a new tax on vehicle sales. Republicans balked at the proposal, including several who had been working with Democrats on transportation funding. Defections emerged among Democratic lawmakers as well, most notably from state Sen. Mark Meek, D-Gladstone, a member of the Joint Committee on Transportation Reinvestment. Senate President Rob Wagner, D-Lake Oswego, removed Meek from the committee on June 20 to boost the bill’s chance of passage. But on Friday, Democrats conceded they didn’t have the votes to pass it, and they had to abandon a last-ditch effort to raise the state’s gas tax by 3 cents to avert looming layoffs at the Oregon Department of Transportation. Sen. Meek joins us to share his thoughts on the legislature’s efforts to tackle Oregon’s transportation challenges.

In a little-noticed rant, President Donald Trump furiously vowed on Truth Social that he will now carry out something called “remigration.” This idea is widely prevalent among global white nationalists who see it as key to their vile goal of building white ethnostates, so his open endorsement of it is significant.
