"The people that tell you not to go after your dreams and not to dream big are the people that gave up their dreams and settled for less." - Berlin Fisher This Real Talk is a clarion call to anybody pursuing their authentic vision – don't give up; keep going! On this episode, I had the privilege of chatting with the dynamic Berlin Fisher – Master Stylist, NBC California Live Beauty Expert Contributor and “The Bad Boy of Beauty.” Some of the core topics we discuss in this episode are: Personal Growth and Self-Reflection Teachable Moments and Open Dialogues Pursuing Artistic Dreams Importance of Personal Care Power of Sobriety Berlin captivates with his life story. He shares his journey that involves overcoming personal struggles, fighting against societal norms, and going after his artistic dreams despite the odds. He also discusses how his sobriety has been pivotal in reshaping his life and his approach to creativity. One of my favorite moments from this Real Talk is Berlin's concept of “Surrender to win.” He explains the importance of “laying down the sword” – letting go of the need to fight and instead embracing acceptance and openness. This kind of surrender can lead to personal victories, and ultimately, impactful growth. If you're a creative go-getter who has encountered tough challenges along the way of pursuing your heart's calling, then you'll find this episode incredibly encouraging! Berlin's wisdom on self-development and paving our own paths is inspiring, and can be applied to our lives. With so much love & gratitude, Grace

Living with Domestic Violence #GabbyPetito #BrianLaundrie #LeslieMorganSteiner #Dr. DebbieGoodman Leslie Morgan Steiner; I don't look like a typical domestic violence survivor. I have a B.A. in English from Harvard College, an MBA in marketing from Wharton Business School. I've spent most of my career working for Fortune 500 companies including Johnson & Johnson, Leo Burnett and The Washington Post. I've been married for almost 20 years to my second husband and we have three kids together. My dog is a black lab, and I drive a Honda Odyssey minivan. So my first message for you is that domestic violence happens to everyone -- all races, all religions, all income and education levels. It's everywhere. And my second message is that everyone thinks domestic violence happens to women, that it's a women's issue. Not exactly. Over 85 percent of abusers are men, and domestic abuse happens only in intimate, interdependent, long-term relationships, in other words, in families, the last place we would want or expect to find violence, which is one reason domestic abuse is so confusing. Dr. Debbie Goodman is an Expert Criminologist, Professor, Radio Talk Show Host, Author, & Expert Contributor on TV News & Radio. Prior to teaching in the Criminal Justice program at St. Thomas University, Dr. Goodman served as Chairperson of the Miami Dade College School of Justice. Dr. Goodman has trained and prepared law enforcement experts from police departments across the country for high-profile cases. She is the author of academic books on crime worldwide. Dr. Goodman hosted a South Florida TV Show for several years, where she interviewed representatives of the law enforcement community, the court system, FBI, & DEA. Dr. Goodman holds an Ed.D. from St. Thomas University in Leadership and Innovation, an MSCJ from FIU, and a BSCJ from FSU. She is deeply committed to helping her students gain the knowledge, skills, and professionalism to succeed in the Criminal Justice profession. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, various Southeast Asian countries were expected to fare differently. Thailand was seen as the most prepared, while Timor-Leste was seen as the least. Six months on, the Philippines and Indonesia have the highest death rates in the region, while Vietnam has had no double-digit new cases in nearly two months. This talk will focus on government responses across a key number of Southeast Asian nations, noting both their comparatively similar and different approaches to tackling the pandemic? Why did some states take on the fast and hard lockdown approach early on, while others took a soft and slow approach? How much did states rely on heavy surveillance of their population? More importantly, did the government's strategy have a direct impact on each country's overall performance in battling the pandemic. Due to its political diversity, Southeast Asia is a fascinating region to examine a variety of government strategies in handling the COVID-19 crisis with implications for the rest of the world. As part of SSEAC's annual ASEAN Forum, Dr Aim Sinpeng (University of Sydney) had a chat with SSEAC's Deputy Director, Dr Thushara Dibley, about government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic around Southeast Asia. About Aim Sinpeng: Aim's research interests centre on the relationships between digital media, political participation and political regimes in Southeast Asia. She is particularly interested in the role of social media in shaping state-society relations and inducing political and social change. Together with Dr Fiona Martin, Aim was recently awarded funding by Facebook to help the social media giant understand how better to regulate hate speech online in the Asia-Pacific region. Aim is the co-founder of the Sydney Cyber Security Network and has served as the Expert Contributor for Varieties of Democracy and the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Transformation Index, which measure degrees and types of democracy. Her other scholarly works examine popular movements against democracy in democratising states, particularly in Thailand. Prior to her academic career she worked for the World Bank, a Toronto-based investment bank, governments of Thailand and the Czech Republic and the New York State Democrat Party. Aim is also a regular commentator on Southeast Asian politics for the ABC, SBS, CBC, Channel News Asia, Al Jazeera, CNBC and Sky News. You can follow Dr Aim Sinpeng on Twitter @aimsinpeng. Family Confidential: Secrets of Successful Parenting with Annie Fox, M.Ed.
Given reasonable accommodations, kids who are deaf, hard of hearing, and/or on the autism spectrum can succeed beautifully in mainstream classrooms. When those accommodations are handled in a respectful, "no big deal" way, kids are more likely to feel the warmth of inclusion from teachers and peers. That's going to greatly benefit the children with special needs as well as their classmates. Annie talks with school psychologist Louise Masin Sattler about inclusive classrooms and how to get there with practical back-to-school tips for parents and teachers. About Louise Masin Sattler Louise Sattler, NCSP (Nationally Certified School Psychologist) is a nationally respected educational consultant who melds her passion for ASL (American Sign Language), special education, disaster preparedness, and social media.
