Kamala Harris' campaign appears to have only one strategy to earn female votes, according to author and conservative social media influencer Isabel Brown.  “To the elected left today, I think women equal votes for abortion,” Brown says, adding, they see you as "a dollar sign associated with the abortion industry.”  While Democrats' strategy to win female voters this election cycle is laser focused on abortion, the political left is working hard to appeal to men after spending the better part of two decades demonizing masculinity.  In an effort to brush claims of “toxic masculinity” under the rug, Harris and her running mate Tim Walz have discussed their ownership of guns and released a campaign ad with men bragging about eating “carburetors for breakfast” and cooking “steak rare.”  The Harris campaign's effort to appeal to male voters is likely driven, at least in part, by data showing that Gen Z male voters are increasingly leaning politically right.  “Gen Z men, namely 17-year-olds, seniors in high school right now, are politically the most conservative they've been in America in 50 years,” according to Brown.  According to an Axios report on a recent Harvard Youth Poll, 26% of men ages 18-24 identify as conservative, which is five points higher than men ages 25 to 29. While Gen Z women skew heavily to the left, even outlets like The New York Times are acknowledging that some young men “feel that rapidly changing gender roles have left them behind socially and economically” and “see former President Donald J. Trump as a champion of traditional manhood.” With less than two weeks until the 2024 presidential election, the battle for the Gen Z vote is likely already settled.  Brown joins "Problematic Women" to discuss the role the abortion issue is playing in this election, and how Democrats have isolated young male voters.  Also on today's show, we dig into concerns over the damaging effects of various forms of birth control, and Brown shares her own story of how “the pill” changed her life for years.

On this podcast, we do a deep dive into companies that are crushing it with a great company culture and this show was no different. We matched up two great companies that are doing amazing things in their companies to grow their company cultures. APS and Co: Collective were the star companies on the show. Whether it's a company that has been around for over 100 years like APS or over 11 years like Co: Collective, they understand that growing culture is vital and at the root of continuing to grow a successful company overall. We discuss the importance of growing this culture on the inside, with employees, and on the outside with customers and clients. The culture should be transparent and consistent from all angles. One of the ways Co: Collective does this is by bringing the clients “into the sandbox” to build with them and be part of the process. The journey and the process is key in growing a good culture. The first step in the process is self transformation which can then drive into company growth and transformation. APS does this through growth mindset focus when growing and adapting in new areas. This is a great episode to listen to if you are another “company culture” guru that is loving to learn new ways to grow company culture. You can hear the passion and experience in Kit and Leila's voices, as well as the knowledge that Derek brings from his Cultural Anthropology background. This show discusses the need for company's to set bold goals that they will try and achieve. APS has set the goal to be 100% clean by 2050. This is a goal that they are in the process of aiming towards now. Similar to the goal that Black Rifle Coffee set to hire 10,000 veterans, these are large goals but important to help lead the companies in the direction that is supportive of their company culture. It was great to hear the thoughts, suggestions, examples, and passion from Leila, Kit, and Derek, that it might just be easier to listen and hear for yourself. Enjoy! co: is a creative and strategic transformation partner for purpose-led businesses. We blend strategic and creative thinking to solve problems, marrying robust, logical, fact-based insights with creative, disruptive, intuitive thinking. We provide our clients with a set of insights, tools, and processes to spur action around their Quests. By defining and subsequently capitalizing on “right space” opportunities, we help expand footprints, open up new markets, and create businesses. We believe building a successful brand doesn't begin and end with the marketing department. It starts from the inside out with daily actions, small and large, across the entire business. That's why we engage relevant stakeholders along the way and help mobilize and socialize teams around the Quest. We work with clients to develop milestone moments that not only inform but engage the entire business. You’re probably familiar with the old saying, “do as I say, not as I do.” Unfortunately, when it comes to building a healthy team culture, how you act as a manager is significantly more important than the mission, vision or values you espouse. We must ‘walk our talk’ to ensure our team members see and feel our values, in addition to hearing them.  In this episode, I speak with Kit Krugman. Kit is the Head of Organization + Culture Design at co:collective and the former President of WIN:Women in Innovation. Kit and I talk about the difference between story-telling and story-doing, the power of simply asking, a culture of psychological safety, the idea of being on a quest, and so much more. Become a member of The Modern Manager Community to be entered to win a free coaching call with Kit Krugman. In addition, you’ll be entered to win a collective mindset report worth $1,500. This report provides you with information on the quality of your current culture and mental lenses of the leaders and employees. You must be a member by September 1st to qualify for both drawings. Subscribe to the newsletter to get episodes, articles and free mini-guides delivered to your inbox.  Have you worked for a rock star manager? Be part of the research for my next book - schedule your 45 minute interview at www.managerialgreatness.com Read the related blog article: Are You Sending The Wrong Signals To Your Team?  Key Takeaways: The story you tell about your company mission, vision and values is only as powerful as the actions that follow it. That is ‘story-doing’ instead of story-telling. When actions don’t align with espoused values, people read the signals and follow what the leadership role models, incentives, and rewards. Reflect on your own behaviors. Are you acting how you expect others to act? Engage your team members in the conversation. What do they want to do? Ask for their feedback and input rather than dictating to them. In order to get honest input and feedback, there must be psychological safety. To develop that trust, ask for critical feedback and take it without being defensive. If you respond negatively, you undermine that psychological safety. Explore what makes you defensive? Get to know yourself and what triggers an emotional response. Prepare to hear critical feedback and to accept it without a defensive or emotional response. Pause to let the emotion pass, say thank you and that you want time to consider it and/or ask for guidance on how to improve.
