Ronald Adams is a young man embarking on a cross-country drive from his mother's home in Brooklyn to California. Minutes after getting underway in a steady rain, a hitch-hiker steps into the path of Adam's car on the Brooklyn Bridge and he swerves to avoid hitting him. The incident slips his mind until later that day, when he's startled to see the same man hitch-hiking along the Pulaski Skyway in New Jersey. Adams shrugs it off as a coincidence until he sees the same hitck-hiker along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, then several more times along highways in Ohio and beyond. Though the man looks like an ordinary hitch-hiker, Adams cannot understand how he keeps getting ahead along his route, and he's especially unnerved that his coat is always splattered with fresh rain even though the weather has been dry since he left New York. After an unnerving encounter with the man at a lonely railroad crossing, Adams becomes reluctant to stop for the night. He's exhausted and desperate for company by the time he reaches Oklahoma, so he picks up a different hitch-hiker, a young woman heading to Amarillo, Texas. They make conversation until Adams sees the mysterious man again and almost crashes into a fence while attempting to hit him with his car. His passenger hadn't seen anyone, and after Adams admits that he'd tried to run someone down, she calls him crazy and flees the vehicle. She's soon picked up by a passing truck, and a shaken Adams decides to take a nap before continuing. However, the mysterious man soon reappears in a nearby field and Adams speeds away. The hitch-hiker appears even more frequently as Adams races faster and faster through the American west too afraid to pause for longer than it takes to refuel his car and buy a sandwich. Eventually he spots a payphone outside a campground in New Mexico and stops to call his mother, feeling that he would be able to pull himself together upon hearing a familiar voice. However, he's confused when the phone at her residence is answered by a woman he doesn't recognize. After confirming that he has reached the correct number, the woman explains that Mrs. Adams was hospitalized with a nervous breakdown after the death of her son Ronald, who was killed six days ago in an auto accident on the Brooklyn Bridge. Ronald Adams is too shocked to reply or insert more coins to continue the long distance conversation, and the call drops. The play ends with Adams expressing a new-found determination to find the hitch-hiker: "Somewhere I will know who he is – and who I am."

What happens when three authors, of like (and unlike) minds come together? For years, Brian Koscienski, Chris Pisano and Jeff Young have written separately and collaborated on projects that take readers inside their imaginations. The results of this remain debateable, but they are worth visiting time and again. The BookSpeak Network has placed microphones inside the secret lair of the trio, odd family and friends for the first of (hopefully) a series of off-the-cuff, random talks about literature, poetry, but also pop culture as a whole. In this premier episode, Jeff discusses how he fell for "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy," Brian discusses the art of haiku, and his wife Christina sits in to provide a voice of reason. A reading of "Satan's Petting Zoo," available on the Sunbury Press imprint Verboten Books is introduced, and we learn about the alter egos of our hosts, including the Drunken Comic Book Monkeys. A lo-fi, rollicking series begins, with "Random Randomness!"

After 1972's body count in Santa Cruz stood at six victims of two serial killers, in the new year of 1973, the communities of Santa Cruz hoped for an end to a terrifying murder spree. But it was just the start of the bloodiest months in the city's history as Herbert Mullin and Ed Kemper would claim fifteen more victims in a manic rampage between January and April. We detail the convergence of extreme violence, obsessions, killer frenzies, and God-complexes in a trail of increasingly bizarre incidents that baffled police who struggled with a total lack of motive, evidence, and suspects. And considering the city's ominous history of odd cults such as the “Holy City” and deep mountain enclaves turned into killing fields, we see a convergence of vengeful influences that defied the desperate attempts to connect or make sense of what appeared to be terrifyingly random.

Aktrise Renāta Ļitvinova to piedāvā noskatīties savā YouTube kanālā. Nākamais Dmitrija Ranceva ieteikums: neovesterns “Lēnie rietumi” / “Slow West”. Sandensas kinfoestivāla Lielo Kritiķu balvu saņēmusī laikmeta drāma vēstī par 16gadīgu skotu jaunekli, kurš dodas bīstamā ceļojumā lai satiktu savu mīlestību, kura kopā ar tēvu bēguļo pa Mežonīgajiem rietumiem, jo abi ir nepatiesi apsūdzēti noziegumā. Ceļā jauneklis sastop tā vēl vienu “ārpus likuma esošu” klejotāju Maikla Fasbendera veidolā – viņš jauneklim piedāvā turpināt ceļu kopā. Trešā afiša “Dīvāna kinozāles” vitrīnā – režisora Aleksandra Hanta diplomdarbs, 2017. gadā absolvējot Viskrievijas kinematogrāfijas institūtu jeb VGIKu. Arī šeit nolasāms ceļa filmas jeb "road movie" žanrs, un vispirms jau izteiksmīgajā darba nosaukumā: “Kā Vitja Ķiploks Ļohu Dūrēju uz ivalīdu namu veda”. Galvenais varonis Vitja ir jauns vīrietis, kurš strādā mazpilsētas atkritumu pārstrādes uzņēmumā, kopā ar sievu cenšas audzināt dēliņu, bet pa īstam tomēr nespēj iekļauties normālā dzīvē – iespaidu uz viņa rīcību atstājuši 12 gadi pavadītie gadi bērnu namā, kur viņš bija spiests uzturēties pēc savas mātes pašnāvības. Pagriezienu stāstā veic viņa tēva piepešā parādīšanās. Cilvēcisko pārmaiņu stāstam Krievijas nomalē varat novērtēt, apmeklējot vietni kino-teatr.ru. Kinokritiķe Kristīne Simsone vēl arvien, pašas vārdiem, nēsā līdzi galvā rumāņu režisora Kristi Puju laikmeta drāmu “Malmkrogs”, kas veidota pēc krievu dzejnieka Vladimira Solovjova darba “Trīs sarunas par karu, morāli un reliģiju”. To bija iespējams skatīt Rīgas Starptautiskajā kinofestivālā pērn, un šobrīd tas izdarāms platformā MUBI.com. Vēl viens ieteikums no Kristīnes Simsones, kuru atrast platformā MUBI.com – tā dēvētā grieķu “weird wave” jeb “savādnieku viļņa” virziena redzamākā pārstāvja Jorga Lantima īsfilma “Mimic”.

Suena “The King of the Spain” de The Tallest Man On Earth, homenaje a nuestro Rey en fuga. Legacy!”.

The Drinking Partners invite Gary Olden and Andy Kwiatkowski of Hitchhiker Brewing back to the podcast, which Ed predicts will be a fun interview, as the paired names of Gary and Andy “sounds like a good time.” The owner/brewer duo stop by to discuss their newest venture: a new Downtown location that will be both a taproom and espresso bar. They celebrate by sipping on Usual Chaos, or as Day puts it, “an 80’s band in a glass,” a kettle sour with blackberries and raspberries. Andy gets specific about current beer trends and how that affects his brewing choices. Midway though, the laughs come as Ed quizzes Andy and Gary about who is the more passive aggressive partner. Next, they sample a blended hop beer, or as Ed calls it, “a mystery spin on Mario Cart.” Listen in as they discuss their goals as a brewery, from national recognition to making their beer better. In the latter half, Gary shares their goals for the newest venture, “Coffee during the day, beer at night.” A must listen episode for beer lovers, especially those who enjoy hearing about what goes into the development behind the scenes with a real focus on brewing, both beer and coffee. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher talk about the final two episodes of the BBC series The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy from 1981. Covering the back half of the novel The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, itself a loose adaptation of the second series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio play, these episodes satirize fancy restaurants, useless professions, and heavy metal concerts. Even though it's a compressed adaptation, there are moments in the final episode that prove to be moving in spite of itself.  Mat finishes up the brief first season of the Netflix animated series Castlevania. Based on the video game series from Konami involving a whip-cracking dude hunting Dracula, he feels the series ends just as the plot is getting started. The first episode on Dracula's origin was his favorite. Thrasher continues to bash Ascent to Hell, a horror movie so mediocre he can't stop thinking about it.  Listen to this episode while a pig encourages which parts of himself are tastiest to eat for maximum enjoyment. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher talk about the first four episodes of the BBC series The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy from 1981. After debuting as a successful radio play on BBC Four, Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was adapted as a novel to be followed by this BBC miniseries. These first four episodes cover the first book in the six-book trilogy (!!!). Several, but not all, of the actors from the radio series reprised their role for this show. After waking up to a bulldozer advancing upon his home, Arthur Dent (Simon Jones) tries to stop it. Before the day is over, he's found it his best friend Ford Prefect (David Dixon) is really an alien, been thrown out of an air-lock into space, and discovered the true origins of Earth. The typically low BBC budget doesn't help things, although the hand-drawn animated sequences of the guide are quite a treat as is the witty, droll dialogue. Mat finds the pilot of the new BBC series Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency to be too violent for its own good. On the other hand, he feels the new Netfilx series Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later is far superior to Wet Hot American Summer: First Day at Camp. Thrasher felt Get Out lived up to the hype and insists you watch it at once. He also caught enough of Ascent to Hell to realize it's dreadful.  Listen to this episode while ramming a fish in your eye for maximum enjoyment. Dungeon Crawlers Radio had the oppertunity to sit down with Writers of the Future winner Kary English.  We talked to her about Writers of the Future, her Hugo nomination, writing, and so much more! Kary English grew up in the snowy Midwest where she avoided siblings and frostbite by reading book after book in a warm corner behind a recliner chair. She blames her one and only high school detention on Douglas Adams, whose Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy caused her to laugh out loud while reading it behind her geometry textbook. Today, Kary still spends most of her time with her head in the clouds and her nose in a book. To the great relief of her parents, she seems to be making a living at it. Her fiction includes several short stories, a planetary fantasy novel forthcoming in late 2015, and a fantasy saga about a little girl and an orange kitten. A student of New York Times bestsellers David Farland and Tracy Hickman, Kary aspires to make her own work detention-worthy. Kary is a Writers of the Future winner whose fiction has appeared in the Grantville Gazette, Daily Science Fiction, and Mike Resnick’s Galaxy’s Edge.
