Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell and attorney Eric Bland cover a lot of ground in this latest episode, starting with the death of Pope Francis, a religious leader who routinely called for justice and spoke out against hypocrisy. What will the future of the church look like now? Also on the show, Alex Murdaugh's co-conspirator Russell Laffitte appeared in court last week to finally admit his guilt. Is this the end of the road for the federal cases in the Murdaugh saga, or will there be more charges filed against yet-unknown players? Plus, three years after Eric Bland and First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe filed complaints with the South Carolina Judicial Conduct Committee against Judge Carmen Mullen, they finally have an answer from the mysterious and secretive committee: There's nothing to see here. In other words, Judge Mullen will not face any disciplinary action for her role in Alex Murdaugh's theft from the Satterfields. And the CoJ team is fired up about it! Finally, Mandy, Liz and Eric talk about the disturbing details that are emerging from the Scott Spivey case in Horry County — specifically the calls that one of Scott's shooters made in the aftermath of Scott's killing. This case is about to blow the lid off corruption inside Horry County Police Department, SLED and the South Carolina Attorney General's Office. ⚖️ Cups Up!! ☕ Episode Resources “This is hypocrisy.” - Pope Francis

Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell, and attorney Eric Bland — talk about Mandy and David's visit to the Hulu set of the Murdaugh TV show in Atlanta right as filming starts. Also on the show Myrtle Beach Pastor John-Paul Miller makes a mockery of the court system. Why isn't anyone stopping him? Plus, Mandy and Liz talk about what went into their reporting of the Jane Doe No. 1 lawsuit that was filed last week, accusing JP Miller of raping a 15-year-old in 1998 and assaulting her again in 2023 and accusing his father Wayne Miller and their churches of looking the other way. Get ready for a jam-packed episode where we dive deep into the ridiculous, the infuriating, and the downright fascinating! This week, we're covering it all, from the bizarre energy of the Super Bowl to the petty world of legal filings and everything in between. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell, and attorney Eric Bland — talk about the latest filing from Alex Murdaugh's twice-alleged co-conspirator Russell Laffitte as he seeks a jury pool that goes beyond the Lowcountry. Turns out the big doofus doesn't like being called a “doofus” … or a “cockroach.” At least not by Mandy and Liz. Russell's attorney Mark Moore finally got the opportunity to flex his petty muscle as he unloaded years of pent-up rage into what Eric says might be a $25,000 motion — once you account for all the time Team Doofus spent listening to Cup of Justice and True Sunlight podcast and scrolling through Mandy's, Liz's and Eric's social media. But the last laugh is — as always — on Team Doofus. There is no bigger compliment to pay than seeing your jokes about the Murdaugh villains appear in a federal court filing. There was a LOT of "quiet part out loud" fodder served up at Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally yesterday - a not-so-subtle homage to the 1939 Nazi rally at the venue's predecessor in New York City. Many are honing in on the racist swipes made by a previously little-known comedian - so awful even the Trump campaign seeks to distance itself from them (did they review when loading his notes on the teleprompter?). I began with Tucker Carlson, though, what with his mocking Kamala Harris' being multi-ethnic and his gratitude for Trump sparking a MAGA movement that gives him the freedom to SAY "the quiet part out loud" now - making him feel like s a freed slave. I'm not making that part up. Hear it for yourself. Reminded me a lot of Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder getting fired in 1988 for racist statements made in a TV interview ... or Rush Limbaugh losing his ESPN gig in 2003. They've come a long way, baby. Also, much has been made of the Washington Post and L.A. Times declining to endorse either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump - and they do deserve all the smoke. Incidentally, cancelling your WaPo subscription isn't what'll hurt Jeff Bezos. What about your Amazon shopping habit? Your Prime subscription? Follow through if you truly intend to, people. That said, what about at the state and local level? What are editorial boards doing there? In South Carolina, The State (Columbia, SC) chose to reward a Congressional candidate with their endorsement despite his failing to respond to their questionnaire in the 7th district race vs. the Democratic opponent - who did fill out the questionnaire - mostly (it seems) based on how they believe the race will play out on Election Day. Here's what they wrote: "In northeastern District 7, The State Editorial Board endorses incumbent Republican Rep. Russell Fry over Democrat Mal Hyman. This was the endorsement we spent the most time discussing. Fry, elected in 2022 after easily defeating five-term incumbent Rep. Tom Rice in the GOP primary, was one of only two congressional candidates to not reply to our questionnaire. Hyman seemed thoughtful, but he didn't offer much in the way of specific solutions in his Q&A, and he also was hard to reach for what should have been an easy follow-up question seeking to fact-check a couple of his figures. Given that Hyman has already fallen well short in two other races for this seat since 2018, a third time does not feel like a charm. We reluctantly endorse Fry, and hope that he doesn't show such disinterest in the press or the public in a second term." That's prognosticating; not endorsing. It's weak and their quibbling over a follow-up (given prior to publication, no less) doesn't hold up. HERE are the submitted answers to the questionnaire given by the Mal Hyman for Congress campaign. Bear in mind, at the bottom of The State's endorsements, behind a paywall but you can read HERE, they wrote: "How we do our endorsements Members of McClatchy's South Carolina Editorial Board conducted interviews and research of candidates and made endorsements in many local, county, state and federal elections on the Nov. 5, 2024 ballot. We based our endorsements on this reporting and fact-checking — and on each candidate's achievements, background, character, demeanor and experience. The state and federal endorsements were made by South Carolina Opinion Editor Matthew T. Hall, letters editor Allison Askins and regular columnist Matt Wylie, a Republican strategist and analyst, in consultation with Brian Tolley, president and editor of The State, The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette, and The Sun News. Hall and Askins made the local and county endorsements in consultation with Tolley. If you have questions or comments about our endorsements, please email Hall at mhall@thestate.com." I do, and I will. Do you? Will you?

Melissa in her own words: “After connecting with my now husband on match.com 20 years ago, we realized we had one key difference: he wanted a partner to ‘Sail around the world'. I, on the other hand, wasn't an adventurer. I was a professional woman with a degree in Psychology, dedicated to non-profit work and healthcare. But my husband ignited a desire in me to embrace life's adventures while we were still healthy. The turning point came when he asked, ‘When are you going to quit your job and sail around the world with me?' Despite my initial fears and attachments, I couldn't ignore the call to live life to the fullest. We set sail across the Pacific Ocean, and it changed me profoundly. We continued our adventures by buying an RV and exploring the US, Canada, and Alaska, much to the surprise of our family. These experiences made me resilient and fearless. Returning from a sailing journey and hiking the John Muir Trail at age 62, I realized that the world was full of opportunities. I see people looking at me differently now, sensing my quiet confidence. My adventure started late, but it's proof that life-changing decisions can happen at any age. The question remains: “Do it now or not?”” *Content Warning: This episode contains an instance of strong/abusive language that some listeners may find offensive. *** Don't miss out on the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday at 7am UK time! She not only left her job at a large law firm to found her own boutique, Business Law Group, focusing on representing entrepreneurs, she also sold her home and most of her belongings and moved onto a sailboat. The question on her mind was this: Can lawyers truly work from anywhere? She discovered the answer over the next year while sailing her way down the Gulf of Mexico with her two dogs, Ava and Kadan, and her boyfriend, Rob. “He was really the captain and I was the first mate,” says Butler Schley. Their vessel, Stay Foolish, was a 44-foot Island Packet 420 sailboat, also called a monohull sailboat. It had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and it was designed for long-term “blue water cruising,” as opposed to shorter excursions like coastal sailing. They officially set sail from New Orleans in December 2017. “The plan was to go all along the Gulf Coast,” she says. “We didn't have any place we had to be at a specific time. How to Sail Around the World Part-Time, by Linus Wilson. Chapters 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10 read by the author. Kindle Version at https://www.amazon.com/How-Sail-Around-World-Part-Time-ebook/dp/B01B0OFYNW "Do you dream of sailing around the world in a sailboat? Do you have a business or career you don't want to sacrifice for that dream? Do you have kids in school? You don't need to quit your job, sell your house, and take the kids out of school to complete a circumnavigation of the globe in a sailboat. You don't have to wait until you are retired to sail for the South Pacific. This book tells you how you can do it without uprooting your life by taking as little as two months per year off to sail the trade winds. Circumnavigating the globe in a sailboat is on par with scaling Mount Everest in terms of its rarity. Many potential circumnavigators are hobbled by misconceptions about the journey that mountaineers lack when climbing to the top of the world. It is said, “I want to circumnavigate to see the world.” Nevertheless, successful trade wind circumnavigators don't see the world. Instead, they travel on a narrow ribbon around it stopping mostly at a narrow range of countries that are downwind. Lack of focus causes many more failed circumnavigations than storms at sea. The conventional wisdom is that you need to quit your job, sell your house, and live on the boat year-round. The reality is that even retirees circumnavigating full-time keep their boat in port half of the year because of the demands of cyclone season. There is no good way to elude the November to April cyclone season that dominates 60 percent of the trade-wind circumnavigation route. The mad rush from the eastern Caribbean to the “safe” ports in New Zealand and Australia in a single calendar year is misguided. It sets cruisers up for hard, upwind ocean passages in future years and saps the resolve of their crews. A better solution is to haul out their boats in the South Pacific and fly back to their homes in the developed world during the cyclone season. It makes more sense to keep one's job and home and take annual two-to-six month leaves of absences to move the boat forward during the cruising season. This allows the sailors to earn more outside the cruising season. Further, they can maintain the careers and businesses which they have built over many years. Further, cruisers still have a job or business to come back to if they decide that the cruise is not for them. Pursuing a part-time circumnavigation is likely to be far less costly to cruisers' long-term earnings than totally severing ties to one's job or business. Going back to their homes on land is much more comfortable than living aboard, while waiting for cyclone season to pass. The most modest land-based accommodations are typically more comfortable than the most luxurious sailboat in port. Finally, part-time circumnavigations avoid many problems with educating school age children and obtaining necessary parts. Learn about the trade-wind route around the world with stops in Panama, the Galapagos, the Marquesas, Tahiti, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Australia, Mauritius, Chagos, Madagascar, South Africa, St. Helena, Brazil, and the eastern Caribbean. Learn why the Pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden have NOT made circumnavigating the globe harder. This is the second book by the bestselling author of Slow Boat to the Bahamas, Linus Wilson. I wanted to rescue my stranded sailboat in New Caledonia. Falling victim to a COVID-19 visa scam I circumnavigated the globe in 3 expensive days on the fake promises of the New Caledonia government, the airline AirCalin, a greedy official quarantine Hotel Godwana, and my sailboat is still inaccessible. I have not been permitted to get back to my Island Packet sailing yacht since January 2020 because of COVID-19 border restrictions. I have been sailing around the world part-time since 2016 when I left my home port of New Orleans. I wrote this to the "quarantine hotel", Godwana in Noumea, which I never stepped foot in but they have $4,200 of my money: "Dear Marie-Françoise, Yellena et Kika: Thank you for your response on the Google review of the Godwana Hotel. It raises the suspicion that you are part of a quarantine visa fraud ring in Noumea, New Caledonia. I am reporting this to the US State Department and New Caledonia Government. An honest hotel would automatically refund all XFP 420,000 of my booking. You clearly are acting in a predatory manner, and had everything to gain from me not actually coming to your hotel. Indeed, AirCalin which denied my boarding gets to keep my plane ticket without actually flying me anywhere. I was lured to Tokyo Narita airport to AirCalin SB801 on May 7, 2021, with written permission by the New Caledonia government to enter and have a COVID-19 quarantine at my own expense. I was denied boarding by AirCalin for made up reasons and stranded in Tokyo after $3,600 of plane tickets and two days of flying and $4,200 of a pre-paid (COVID-19 jail) hotel stay. My PCR within 72-hours was negative, I was fully vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, and I had no exposure or COVID-19 symptoms. I promptly notified you of my misfortune. You only responded after I wrote a Google review of your hotel. You said that that you refused to refund the XFP 420,000 which I pre-paid. Godwana’s official response is below and attached. You wrote on the Google Review on May 9, 2021 (USA time): “Notre prestation de quatorzaine n'est pas remboursable le jour j car la chambre est bloquée pour vous pour 15 jours. Nous comprenons votre désarroi mais vos propos diffamatoires ne nous incitent pas à vous venir en aide. Nous ne savons même pas pourquoi la police aux frontières françaises vous aurait bloqué en chemin ?” Which is translated: “Our fortnight service is not refundable on the day because the room is blocked for you for 15 days. We understand your distress, but your defamatory words do not encourage us to help you. We don't even know why the French border police would have blocked you on the way?” Your predatory billing practices should be investigated and your hotel should be expelled from any COVID-19 quarantine program. A hotel not involved in visa fraud would just refund my money. Unfortunately, the Godwana Hotel has very much resisted that. I think a criminal fraud and conspiracy probe should be opened by the New Caledonia police. In the second part of my interview with Renee Dudley from ProPublica, we delve into the cyber insurance and ransomware incident response industries, including how some of these companies are being less than forthcoming about their services. In fact, it appears that several "incident response" companies are simply paying the ransom and then charging companies a fee on top of that. We'll talk about how cyber insurance works and how to decide whether or not it's for you. And Renee will also give us some tips on choosing an incident response firm and what red flags to watch out for. Renee Dudley is a tech reporter at ProPublica. Before joining ProPublica in 2018, she was a member of the enterprise team at Reuters, where she reported extensively on issues with college-entrance exams. Before joining Reuters in 2015, she worked as a reporter in New York for Bloomberg News and in South Carolina for The (Charleston) Post and Courier and The (Hilton Head) Island Packet. At Bloomberg, she uncovered questionable accounting and unauthorized sales practices at Walmart Inc. In Charleston, her reporting led to the indictment and resignation of South Carolina’s most powerful politician. She received the Society of Professional Journalists’ Pulliam Award in 2010 for her work upholding First Amendment rights while reporting for The Island Packet. Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that ransomware is one of the most common and most lucrative cybersecurity rackets today. But despite all the press, ransomware is massively under-reported because companies don't want bad press. And in most cases, unless it can be proven that data was actually stolen, companies are under no legal obligation to inform the data subjects (you) of these hacks. In part one of my interview with Renee Dudley from ProPublica, we'll discuss the current state of the ransomware problem and the emergence of cyber insurance and incident response companies to deal with the threat and recover from attacks. And we'll also see that not all players are above board about what they do. Renee Dudley is a tech reporter at ProPublica. Linus Wilson talks about season 4 of his part-time around the world trip where he sails his 31-foot Island Packet from Vava'u, Tonga to Suva, Viti Levu, Fiji. Then he and his volunteer crew member sail to the home of the active volcano Mt. Yasur, Port Resolution, Tanna. Finally, the Slow Boat arrives in Noumea, New Caledonia after the third offshore passage in less than a month. That is the 15th successful multli-day offshore passage that Linus has captained in the Slow Boat since purchasing the sailboat in 2013. He summarizes seasons 1-4 and talks about the offshore passage strategy and execution. Linus Wilson talks about his book How to Sail Around the World Part-Time in a seminar at the Southwestern International Boat Show in League City, Texas in April 2017. This show too place at the South Shore Marina off of Clear Lake near the Kemah Boardwalk area. Linus, Janna, and Sophie visited the boardwalk as well as participated in the seminar. You can hear and see the slides from this seminar in this YouTube video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK9pCIZD77A How to Sail Around the World Part-Time is a former Amazon sailing bestseller. It's description says: "Do you dream of sailing around the world in a sailboat? Do you have a business or career you don't want to sacrifice for that dream? Do you have kids in school? You don't need to quit your job, sell your house, and take the kids out of school to complete a circumnavigation of the globe in a sailboat. You don’t have to wait until you are retired to sail for the South Pacific. It is said, “I want to circumnavigate to see the world.” Nevertheless, successful trade wind circumnavigators don’t see the world. Instead, they travel on a narrow ribbon around it stopping mostly at a narrow range of countries that are downwind. Lack of focus causes many more failed circumnavigations than storms at sea.The conventional wisdom is that you need to quit your job, sell your house, and live on the boat year-round. It makes more sense to keep one’s job and home and take annual two-to-six month leaves of absences to move the boat forward during the cruising season. Dr. Wilson got his doctorate in financial economics at Oxford University. He sails an Island Packet 31’ with his wife, daughter, and four pound poodle. He has been published in Cruising Outpost and Good Old Boat magazines. Subscribe to the Slow Boat Sailing podcast for free on iTunes and Stitcher! The Slow Boat was struck by a whale 1,700 nautical miles from its next port and 1,800 nautical miles from its last port of call. The host Linus Wilson tells the tale. He also interviews the creators of Sailing Baby Blue. Check out their YouTube channel and blog! They sailed from Maine to the Bahamas to the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Vigin Islands, the BVI, Martinique, St. Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. They did it in just two years in a 33 foot boat built in 1969. You have got to check out this inspiring story of cruising on a budget early in life! Now they are building a tiny house and exploring the U.S.A. Find out why the Slow Boat sailed 3,500 nautical miles across the south eastern Pacific to the paradise of Hiva Oa, in the Marquesis this past December. When we hit $80 per round the world vlog episode or podcast episode, we will give away up to 2 weeks in a private berth for two to one of our Patrons. Patrons will be randomly selected based on their long-term support on www.Patreon.com/slowboatsailing. This is several thousand dollar value. Captained charters of similarly sized monohulls usually exceed $400 per day. Thus, this reward is over a $5,000 value. The timing of that berth depends on the schedules of the winner and Captain Linus Wilson. The Slow Boat is Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. Linus Wilson will be cruising there in May to July 2017. Hopefully, a patron and possibly his or her significant other can join the boat as crew. Check out the YouTube channel of our ON THE AIS segement guest Sailorama. They are making sweet sailing videos in California. Check out their blog too! We gave away $1,500 worth of free books when we hit our last Patreon goal of $20 per episode. That's right $20 gave $1,500 worth of books to sailors around the world! Pledging on Patreon is more than a good deed it is a great value and a chance to be on a two-week cruise is just one of the awesome rewards of pledging such as free audiobooks, podcast bonus episodes, and associate producer credits in the videos. For every hour of podcast or minute of video many hours of work must go into them to produce them. We only produce highly edited podcasts and videos because we believe our listeners and viewers time is so valuable. It is the least expensive study course for the toughest exam on the USCG captain’s exam that I know of at $9.99. The “Slow Boat” is an Island Packet 31′. There are 12 episodes planned for season 1 on YouTube. New vlogs are released at 5 PM New York City time on the first Thursday of the month. Hopefully, we will have the support to film many more seasons of our round the world voyage. Season 1 goes from New Orleans, to Florida, to Cuba, stops at Providencia, though the Panama Canal, and across the equator into the South Pacific. Season 2 will feature the trip to and cruising in the most beautiful and remote islands in the world, the Marquesas. If you win the Patreon crew drawing, you could be a star in season 2. Subscribe to the Slow Boat Sailing podcast for free on iTunes and Stitcher! Native Alaskans Erik and Meagan bought a boat in the San Fransisco Bay area and sailed it down the often unforgiving California coast to the warm waters of Mexico. It may be a surprise to the followers of their blockbuster, YouTube channel Resolute Sets Sail, what they did next. Instead of turning west to the islands of the south Pacific as is more popular or heading through the Panama canal towards the Caribbean, Erik and Meagen went on some epic month long offshore passages to Hawaii and Alaska. Learn about their problems importing their dog into Hawaii. (I could not believe it! U.S. Citizens have to jump through hoops to take their dog to Hawaii.) Learn about the travels of these low-budget adventurers under sail in their Cascade 36. They are super cool, and they make great videos! Before we get into an interview we have an audio sample of my Navigation Rules: International and Inland (Abridged), Study Guide for USCG Captains' and Merchant Mariner Exam on CD Baby. It is the least expensive study course for the toughest exam on the USCG captain's exam that I know of at $9.99. I edited this interview during my 27-day passage at sea from Ecuador to French Polynesia, which was hard because we had limited electricity, and I need to buy a newer faster computer to edit podcasts and video. After the Slow Boat was hit by a whale half-way through the 3,500 nm trip, I got much busier with managing downwind sails, autopilot, and engine bleeding problems. I'll talk about that trip in the next episode. This episode is being uploaded in Tahiti, which has MUCH faster internet than Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. I was only in Hiva Oa for less than a week before having to come back home for work. I hope to release episode 8 of the Slow Boat Sailing YouTube channel's round the world vlog before the next podcast. If you are a YouTube subscriber, send me a private message on Facebook or Twitter with your USA address by Wednesday, January 11, 2017, to be in a drawing for the first ever printed copy of Slow Boat to Cuba. This is a one of a kind collectors edition of the Amazon sailing eBook bestseller on its first day on sale. I'll show the results of the drawing in episode 8 of Slow Boat Sailing's vlog series. Robert Scott, Grand Cypress Golf Club's Tournament Director, calls in to talk with The Golf Insiders about the upcoming tournament. The GolfUnited Fundraising Scramble will be played on the New Course at Grand Cypress, which is Jack Nicklaus' tribute and homage to the famed Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. 100% of the proceeds from the Scramble and the Silent Auction that follows the event will go to OneOrlando and Pulse of Orlando Funds. Holly and Jeff talk about the recent success of Dustin Johnson. The final leader board from the WGC showed good showings for Spieth, Kevin Chappell, Scott Piercy and Matt Kuchar. Jeff points out that Chappell has placed second a number of times this season on the Tour and is waiting for him to break through with a win. With the British Open only two weeks ago Holly G talks about the recent play from Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace. Holly asks Jeff about Jason Day's final four holes at the WGC Bridgestone when he handed the tournament over to whoever was trailing him. Kevin talks with Jeff about Dustin Johnson's potential of becoming #1 in the OWGR. Jeff didn't think that DJ would overcome Spieth. It'll take one big victory and another victory before Day can finish well which will allow DJ to catch Day. Holly asks Jeff who he's keeping his eye on as potential winners of the Open Championship: Jeff says McIlroy and Stenson. In the third segment Holly G talks with Kevin and Will about the LPGA's U.S. Women's Open this week and the stars like Brooke Henderson, Lydia Ko, Gernia Piller and Ariya Jutanugarn's performances this season making the LPGA even more exciting than usual. Holly G is in the studio with co host Kevin Sternett, assistant pro at Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point and Will Perry, creative director at EVVUS and Golf Insiders social media guru. The trio kicks off the show talking about the great week of golf including the U.S. Open, won by Dustin Johnson. One of the main distractions for this year's U.S. Open and DJ is that the USGA had a questionable ruling on DJ on the 5th hole of his final round where the ball moved before he grounded his club behind the ball. He called the rules official over and told him that he did not cause the ball to move. The official told him to play on with no penalty. However, the USGA confronted DJ on the 12th hole and told him that they had reviewed the video evidence and requested that he review the footage after the round. Then it would be decided if he would incur the one-stroke penalty. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from Congressional to talk about last week's U.S. Open and the USGA's ruling on DJ. Bob said that in the media center that it was chaos and absolute disbelief as the events unfolded. Kevin talks with Bob about the fact the ruling controversy not only was hard on Dustin, but it impacted the rest of the field not knowing how each player chasing the leader should attack the rest of the round. They did not know if Dustin was going to incur the penalty or if his current round's score was accurate. The team and Bob talk about the player's honor being called into question, which is paramount in the game of golf, not only for Dustin but Lee Westwood who was playing alongside DJ. In the end DJ was able to win by more than one stroke, which saved the USGA from an even greater PR nightmare. Bob said the key was that DJ had not addressed the ball. "Outside the USGA, I don't see anyone else who agrees with them." It happened to Shane Lowry the day before when he called the penalty on himself. USGA Rule 18b was revised in 2016, which was supposed to help shed some clarity on the subject. Tony Austin, Director of Programs for Core Golf Education in Orlando and also serves on the board for PGA of America as a member of the rules committee, call in for the second segment of the show to talk more about the ruling that affected this year's U.S. Open. Tony said that he felt for everyone involved including the committee. He said that he would have ruled that DJ had moved the ball because of his close proximity to the ball when it rolled, that DJ caused it to move. The problem was that the ruling wasn't made until after the round and not immediately when it happened. Tony pointed out that the rule is written that the committee can always take a look at something to get it right. It seemed like a non incident in real time. But the committee taking so long to bring it up and get it into the mainstream of the world was chaos. Tony said as he was watching the event on TV, he didn't think that DJ caused the ball to move. He said he thought differently after he reread the rule. There didn't appear to be any wind, and DJ stood very close to the ball, and the fact that he put his putter down to the side and it touched the ground to some degree, Tony would have given DJ the penalty ... based on the way the rule is written. The USGA and R&A definitely need to take a look at the rule and see what the intention of the rule is. Mike Kern, Philadelphia Daily News, calls in to the show to talk about the U.S. Open Championship. Mike talks to Holly about Dustin Johnson's play. When he is on he is as talented as anyone on the Tour. His putting usually holds him back. Holly asks Mike about Jim Furyk and the rest of the Top 10 on the leader board at the 2016 U.S. Open. Mike discusses the age of the Furyk and Mickelson and the fact that they don't usually win major championships in their 40s. Not that they can't but it's something that is usually not done. Jeff Shain, The Island Packet in Hilton Head, calls in to wrap up the show. Holly asks Jeff about the Olympics and the people like Rory McIlroy deciding not to participate in the Olympics due to the Zika virus. Jeff said that the golf schedule has a huge event over other week this season and a week off is a big deal to the players. None of the LPGA players have backed out of the Olympics. Jeff said that it seems that it would be a female golfer who has pulled out of the Olympics. Kevin, Will and Holly discuss the fact that it seems the women players seem more interested in the Olympics and not the men in the U.S.

Holly G is in the studio with special guest Brendan Sweeney, Director of Golf Media and Player Relations at French Lick Resort, Ind. Holly and Brendan recap the week in golf including Smylie Kaufman's win at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open in Las Vegas, his first PGA Tour victory. He finished ahead of a portion of the field but his 61 was good enough to hold off the eight players who finished tied for second place. With the win he earns a spot at the Masters in 2016. Jeff Shain, The Island Packet, Prime Sports Network, calls in from South Carolina to talk to Holly and Brendan. Holly asks Jeff about Smylie Kaufman's win. Jeff said Smylie started the day seven shots back before finishing with a 61. Kevin Na finished second again for seven runner up finishes, five have come in the last 20 months. He has also finished third several times in that time frame. Jeff said that Na has become one of the best scramblers and it was odd to see him chunk a shot that kept him out of the winner's circle. Smylie's best friend Patton Kizzire was one of the players who finished second and passed the time with Smylie while other players finished their final round. Jeff talks about Patton's residence at the Sea Island area with other veteran players. Holly asks Jeff about Rickie Fowler's T-25th place finish when he had been playing so well. Jeff is wondering if Rickie's game is built more for the tougher courses and not a birdie fest venue like the Shriners turned out to be. Jeff and Holly discuss the upcoming Tour events including the CIMB Class where players are competing for $1.26 million in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia. Jeff pointed out that players could actually make a fortnight of it if they also competed in the WGC-HSBC Champions event. If a player chose to do both they wouldn't have to fly all that way for one event. Holly talks to Jeff about the LPGA Tour where Lydia Ko notched her 10th victory over. She already has 10 wins and is only 18-years-old. She finished the tournament with a 9-shot lead over the field. The trio talk about how LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan has really helped move the LPGA in the right direction. The final event of the season for the LPGA is fast approaching, the CME Tour Group Championship is in Naples, Florida Nov. 19-22 and Ko is the defending champion. Terrie Purdum, Southern Golf Central Magazine, which is proudly celebrating 16 years, calls in to talk with Holly G and Brendan about the latest issue of the magazine and the upcoming charity events that the magazine is featuring including the Golf for Hope Tournament (Helping Other People Eat) in January. The fabulous Bella Collina in Montverde, Fla., is featured in the latest issue on line pages 38-39. Holly welcomes Tony Austin to the show to talk about the recent rules of golf changes. Austin is the Director of Programs for Core Golf Education of at Core Golf Academy and also has his own radio show,Core Golf Radio, Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. on ESPN radio. Tony and Holly talk about the the USGA and R&A's recent release of the 2016 edition of the Rules of Golf. Withdrawal of Rule on Ball Moving After Address Limited Exception to Disqualification Penalty for Submission of Incorrect Score Card Modification of Penalty for a Single Impermissible Use of Artificial Devices or Equipment Prohibition on Anchoring the Club While Making a Stroke Holly also asks Tony about some of the rules violation that he sees golfers commit. Provisional Ball -- The provisional ball is designed to help speed up the game. It doesn't apply if the ball went into the hazard. You have to find out if it did go in the water. If you do not and you play a provisional ball you will be penalized. Another rule is the use of the marker, to mark the ball so the player may lift and clean it. One thing he said that golfer's don't always realize is that after they have marked the ball, lifted it and cleaned it, once the ball is placed back on the green it is back in play even if the marker is still behind it.

St James Cathedral flew the W flag at the school was on the front page of Oct. 21, 2015 Wall Street Journal. Holly talks with former PGA Caddie and ESPN.com Senior Writer Michael Collins about his how he made it to ESPN. Michael didn't follow the traditional steps to work in the media business for ESPN. Holly asks Michael about his days caddying on the Tour. Michael tells the story about Jordan Spieth's caddy Michael Greller, a former 3rd grade teacher, and how he and Spieth got together. Collins interviewed Michael Greller and his story behind the route to Spieth's bag and the relationship between the two men. Bernhard Lager won the San Antonio Championship for his 25th victory and tightened the lead between Langer, Jeff Maggert and Colin Montgomery. Jeff Shain, The Island Packet, Prime Sports Network, calls in to talk to Holly G about the class of 2011 that includes the Frys.com winner Emiliano Grillo, 2015 FedEx Cup champion Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Ollie Schniederjans. Holly asks Jeff about who is the breakout player of this year. Jeff said that someone we need to keep your eyes on Patton Kizzire who finished second on the Web.com Tour. Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel calls in to wrap up the hour of intelligent golf talk. Holly asks Todd about what he took away from watching the Presidents Cup in South Korea. Lewis commented that it is nice to see golf from a different country's perspective and see how the game continues to grow globally. Holly asks Todd talks about Tiger's press conference and the update on Tiger's plans to take it easier and not rush himself back to the Tour this time around. Todd feels Tiger's approach after his second back surgery is a great plan. Todd tells listeners that Tiger seems to be a fallen star in the eyes of the fans/public. Fans seem sympathetic toward Tiger and have forgotten his past misgivings and they are rooting for him to make a comeback. Holly and Todd talk about Tiger possibly coming back and challenging the new foursome in golf: Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Jason Day. Todd recently had a chance to talk with Henrik Stenson about his upcoming schedule between the European Tour and the PGA Tour and how he might shift some appearances to make sure he is in great shape heading into the major championships this season. Todd feels that Stenson may win a Major championship and will definitely finish in the top 10 and a couple of the majors this year.

Holly G is in the studio with special guest Jay Golden, PGA instructor at Winter Pines Golf Course, who has been out on the Web.com Tour caddying and instructing Rob Oppenheim try to qualify for the PGA Tour. Oppenheimer finished 26th in the Web.com standings, just missing the automatic qualifying for his card given to the Top 25 on the Web.com Tour. Now Oppenheim heads into the qualifying tournament. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in from BMW Championship at Conway Farms on the eve of the third leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs. After a week off, the 70 players return as they head into the final stretch. Bob said he feels that the players are more rested than they were a year ago. There is no way you can do this mentally and physically without a break. This is a lot of high-end golf. Next year the week off comes right before the final FedEx Cup Championship and the Olympics are mixed in with the Tour schedule. Jay asks Bob if he thinks the players have the feel that this is a gigantic event. Bob says "Honestly, No" and that's the hurdle the PGA is trying to overcome. Bob said that after someone like Jordan Spieth finished 1st, 1st, 2nd and 4th in this year's major championships, how much does he have left in the tank to turn back around and head into the "Playoffs"? Bob said that the "money part" of these tournaments is not the issue, Bob thinks it lacks what the majors have. They'd be better off with 3 events in a row and have them come a few weeks after the end of the season. Holly brought up the fact that Sergio Garcia took two weeks off and went on vacation and didn't play the first two events and still may win the final two playoff events. Jay mentioned that there are a lot of theories why the FedEx Cup started and then asked Bob why he thinks the PGA started the FedEx Cup playoffs? Bob said that the Tour doesn't have a stake in the Major Championships and the Tour wanted to create something outside of the Majors. Before the FedEx Cup, golf died off at the end of the calendar year and no one paid attention to the tournaments in the fall. Bob feels that playoffs have done a great job at revitalizing the season. They came up with the point system. "One of the reasons the NFL is so popular is that there is an 8-month break for fans and once the Super Bowl is over we can't wait for the next season to begin," Harig pointed out. "Having these tournaments is way better off than what we had before ..."I think it's great!, Harig stressed. Holly asks Bob about Jordan Spieth and have we forgotten him already? Bob said that Spieth said he hasn't had a let down after all of his success this year. Bob picked Hunter Mahan to win the BMW even though he's way down on the list. Who is going to win the hole thing depends on the Top 5 after the this week. Bob likes Rory. The fifth major on the LPGA Tour, the Evian Championship, was won by Lydia Ko who became the youngest player to ever win a Major. Holly talks about the final event and that the LPGA players are headed to Germany for the Solheim Cup. Jay and Holly talk about the Web.com Tour playoff systems. Jay says that he "discovered" Caddying is 90 percent of what you don't say and 10 percent of what you do say. Jay said that he feels that as a caddy ... "You have to be Sigmund Freud and Butch Harmon at the same time." Jay has also been working with Kaká from Orlando City Soccer on his golf game. Jay talks about how great an athlete and nice person Kaká is. Jeff Babineau, Golfweek, calls in from Conway Farms and talks about the FedEx Cup Playoffs with Holly and Jay about the golf course. Jay asks Jeff if he thinks the FedEx Cup Playoffs are all that they are made out to be. Jeff said that he feels that it is better than what the Tour had and gives more of an exciting feeling to the Tour than in the past. Holly asks if Billy Horschel's big three weeks last year changed his approach to golf moving forward? Jeff said he thinks it definitely puts a lot of pressure on Billy. Jay talks with Jeff about how Spieth had such an incredible year and had an incredible run this year that maybe it took a lot out of him heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Jeff thinks that it might have caught up with Spieth. Jeff thinks Zach Johnson will win this week. But no matter what happens there is a good field going into the Tour Championship regardless. Holly picks Jim Furyk. Holly updates listeners on the Solheim Cup, which was something her team at the LPGA came up with in the 1990s. Holly was the Director of Communications at the time the Solheim Cup was "birthed." Jeff Shain, Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette in Hilton Head, S.C. and a contributor to PGATour.com, calls in to wrap up the show. Holly asks Jeff about the LPGA's last two weeks. Lydia Ko won the Evian. We in the media may have under played Lydia. Jeff recaps her blossoming career at such a young age. Ko won the Race to the CME Globe in 2014. Jeff said that Lydia reminds her of Lorena Ochoa. Holly then turns her attention to the Solheim Cup. Jeff said that this is a critical Solheim Cup for the USA being that the USA has lost two in a row and three consecutive losses would be devastating. If you look at world rankings, the US is a stronger team on paper but he Europeans seem to have that team edge. Jeff points out that these are almost the same two teams from a year ago that saw the Europeans stomped the USA team.

Host Holly G is at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championships. It's also the eve of the second event of the 2015 FedEx Cup playoffs, The Deutsche Bank Championship. Last week it was all Jason Day as he won The Barclays, his fourth event of the season, running away from the competition once again. On Sunday Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in a talks to Holly to talk about Jason Day's confident play of late. Bob feels that once again that once you break through things get easier. Day shot a 63-62 to run away with the event. Bob talks to Holly G about when is the last time that two players have been in the hunt for the Player of the Year. Jordan Spieth winning two majors and two other events and how well he has played. On the other hand, now you have Day who has won a major and three other events with one of those being a FedEx Cup event. There's a possibility that Day could sweep the FedEx Cup and how would that stand up against what Spieth has done in the eyes of their peers who vote for POY? Bob said that Spieth finished first, first, fourth and second in the majors this year so that may be the stat that seals it for Spieth. And he was one stroke away from being in the playoff at the Open Championship which could've been three in a row for Jordan. It's been one of the greatest years is major championship history. Holly and Bob discuss Rory McIlroy's chances battling through injuries and how he might play the rest of the FedEx Cup playoffs this year? Bob said that Rory is more fresh now. He can play one week, get a week off and then play two in a row. Bob feels that it is a good decision by Rory to play how he has this past month. Then a hard European Tour finish after that. Bob and Holly talk about who has to make the biggest move this week to help their cause going forward. Hunter Mahan has been in eight straight Tour Championships since the FedEx Cup playoffs have started. If you get to Atlanta, you are putting at least 150,000 in your retirement account. He's 91st in points and has a lot of work to do this week to get to the BMW. The Top 5 get to control their destiny in the FedEx Cup. May be one of the debatable things about the FedEx Cup format. Day can win the next two and may not win it all. Someone who is 2, 3, 4 or 5 can win the title if they win the last event. Bob feels, that it's hard to play these big tournaments in consecutive weeks so it's great that they have a week off after this Mitch Laurance, host of Golf Connections on PlayGolfGetaways.com , talks to Holly about the World Ams and 57 courses being played. There are about 3,500 golfers and about 70 or so flights. Players play four different golf courses during the event and experience all of the facets. There are also amazing deals at the 19th Hole, the food, the free cocktails, etc. There are also so many side competitions going on and events for participants to compete in. John Daly was at the World Am right after being in the hospital for a collapsed lung. Mitch said he got to spend some time with Daly and ask him how he was doing and ... John said "Okay, but added he was still scared." Mitch said it really is a mind boggling place with all the great golf courses in the area and the World Amateur event each year. For more information on the World Amateur or to compete next year, visit www.myrtlebeachworldamateur.com/ Jeff Shain, Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette in Hilton Head, S.C. and a contributor to PGATour.com, calls in from nearby Hilton Head to talk to Holly G about Jason Day's recent accomplishments on Tour. Very impressive but befuddled some of the top players in the world. Jeff feels that once a player crosses over and wins one of the biggest events it really goes a long way in boosting their confidence where they can start winning more. Holly asks Jeff about Brian Harman's two aces in one tournament. He was buying drinks and they were all doubles. Maxed out his credit card. Brian has a good year but hasn't been a contender this year like last year when he won. Jeff discusses the second event of the FedEx Cup and the top players. Interesting to have the three guys together in Spieth, Day, and McIlroy. Jeff mentions the fact that Sergio Garcia is not playing the Deutsche Bank and was not at The Barclays. It's a big gamble just playing the last two events, but is an interesting strategy. Jeff says that in the past it seems that there are players who are just on the periphery in the standings that get hot and win it all like Horschel did last year. Jeff said it could be Robert Streb. Wrapping up the hour of intelligent golf talk radio Holly talks to one of the featured golf courses on The Golf Insiders Golf Card, Justin Awtrey the General Manager of the DeBary Golf and Country Club. Justin talks about the renovations that were recently done to the course and the grand reopening. The country club put in some new Tiff Eagle greens and tilled them all. Host Holly G is in the studio on the eve of the Barclays, the first event of the 2015 FedEx Cup playoffs. Jeff Babineau, Golfweek, calls in to talk about Davis Love III's big win, at 51, at the Wyndham Championship while on the other side of the age spectrum, Lydia Ko winning in Canada Holly and Jeff talk about the golfers who play well at this time of the year like Billy Horschel did last year and how you can make a lot of money. People from all over the globe competing for the 125 PGA Tour cards Martin Kaymer lost his PGA Tour by not playing a required 15 events splitting time between the European Tour and PGA Tour. Jeff said that Kaymer is out of the playoffs this year but win a major championship Kaymer will be alright moving forward. Jeff mentions that Robert Streb got a huge jump on this season by playing the early events in the fall start of the 2014-2015 Tour start. Already Rory McIlroy has committed to play in the early events of the upcoming 2015-2016 season. Holly asks Jeff his thoughts on the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs are there true favorites or will someone come out of the pack like last year? Holly says that someone with a hot short game might come out on top at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey this week with the greens being the way they are set up for The Barclays. Jeff said that he likes the rotation for the playoffs among courses and Plainfield is such a great old course. Matt Kuchar is Jeff's pick to win The Barclays this week. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in and starts things off talking about the U.S. Amateur Champion Bryson DeChambeaux who also won the NCAA individual men's title this year. Steve talks about Bryson's idiosyncrasies with his golf equipment. Holly and Steve also cover the LPGA and Lydia Ko's win and Stacey Lewis' who Steve seems a little snake bitten lately not being able to close out the tournaments. Lewis is playing at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic where the field is a little thin. The 2015 Solheim Cup is in September and Paula Creamer and Brittany Lang were named as the captain's picks by Juli Inkster. He thinks Creamer was picked for experienced and thinks the Americans team looks really well statistically. Last time the Europeans had the better numbers and ended up upsetting the USA on their home soil. Jeff Shain, Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette in Hilton Head, S.C., call in from beautiful South Carolina to talk about Davis Love III's win and the upcoming FedEx Cup playoffs. The third oldest, longest stretch of time between first and last wins. His first win was in 1987. Tiger turns 40 in December. He still moves the needle in the ratings and the Wyndham printed an extra 47,000 tickets after Tiger announced he was playing Wyndham. Tiger did a little analysis of Davis' putting during the week and Davis gave Tiger the feel of Sedgefield Country Club that seemed to help Tiger out this past weekend. Jeff wonders if Tiger had added one more start back in May might he have picked up enough points for him to make the playoffs? Holly mentions the putting hiccups Tiger has lately and the 11th hole when the wheels came off the cart for him with a triple bogey. Three of Dustin Johnson's three wins have been 54-hole wins and Jeff talks about DJ avoiding the clunker back 9 on the final rounds. Jeff mentions that four of the past five winners at the FedEx Cup have come off the pace and those who controlled their own destiny haven't been able to play well at East Lake to win it all. Jordan Spieth has the highest point total that there has ever been going into the FedEx Cup playoffs this year. Jeff Shain likes Spieth and DJ at the top of the leader board again, whereas Robert Streb might be a long shot as well as David Lingmerth. Mike Jamison, Examiner.com and ING, calls in to talk to Holly about the PGA Expo in Las Vegas, that just ended. Cobra has recently introduced their new King Cobra driver. There was a demo day but it's mainly an apparel and fashion show. Tour Edge came out with a new limited edition hybrid with a slip stream sole. Chase 54 introduced a new line of apparel. One cool training aids was the Golf Chute by Chute Trainer that helps with the hip turns and adds distance off the tee using wind resistance in training. Bob feels that Dustin Johnson's inauspicious start and how he rebounded is a good sign for DJ and he should walk away with good vibes. One of the big surprises was that Adam Scott didn't make the cut at the PGA Championship and is set to play the Wydnham Championship along with Tiger. The other golfer who was a bit of a surprise was Bubba Watson who didn't play well even though he was sort of a favorite after his success five years ago on the same course and being such a long ball hitter. Holly talks with Bob about Tiger's chances of coming in and winning or placing solo second at the Wyndham just to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs after such an off year. The duo also discuss some of the players who also didn't make the FedEx Cup playoff. Day lost his father at 12 years old and was headed down the wrong path drinking alcohol and was getting in to at the time. If it wasn't for his mother sending him to a golf boarding school he wouldn't be a major champion today. Ben talks about Day finding Tiger Wood's book at a young age and reading it and the influence it had on his life. Jason wanted to be the next Australian golfer to bring a major back to his home country. "There were a litany of close calls over the years, I think we have a future #1 on our hands and a four or five time Major champion," Everill. Holly asks Ben about Jason Day's quote after the win and how something changed for him at the Open Championship. "Something happened to me at the Open Championship this year. I don't know what it was, I don't know how it happened, but I was sitting there on Sunday of the fourth round, Monday morning, and I felt a calmness over me. And it just something clicked inside of me. And since then, I've been calm ever since. And I could not put my finger on what happened and why it clicked, but it just happened. And even though there could be stuff flying around me out there on the golf course, the ability to keep my cool and keep calm has happened since The Open Championship." Everill was there and he confirmed that Day wasn't as nervy after that and the way he bounced back after that. It enabled to go the Canadian event and win that and then his success at the PGA Championship. Holly asks about Day's battle with the vertigo that has seemed to haunt him on and off. Ben says that Day takes medicine for it now and there will be more tests in the future to see what the prognosis is but he feels Jason will have it the rest of his life. Holly also talks to Ben about other Australian golfers like Marc Leishman, Adam Scott, Matt Jones and others.
