If you feel like you've woken up and are getting downloads and intuitive rumblings in your heart, listen to it and welcome it. Every inspired idea has energy. Partner with it. Dr. Gary Salyer is a longtime friend and neo reichian relationship mentor and attachment theory expert. One of the aspects of his work that's always fascinated me is around the 6 rights that Wilhelm Reich said that every human must have “installed” to be fully functioning, powerful contributors in society. In this episode we discuss each of those six rights in detail, examining their impact on love, life and business… including what happens in your business if they aren't yet installed! We also address the four fundamental feelings that will help you create connection with others and increase your ability to make impact on the world. https://thecourageousmessenger.com/right-lead-increase-leadership-impact-jeffrey-van-dyk-gary-salyer/ #podcast #thejeffreyvandykshow GUEST LINKS: Website: www.garysalyer.com FB: https://www.facebook.com/gary.salyer LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gary-d-salyer-ph-d-8a593a8/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/dr.gary.salyer/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/GaryDSalyer
I've heard a ton of ideas on culture change and creating inclusive dialogue, but nothing so well thought-out, creative and scalable as this. Jennifer Graham is a visionary “conversation cultivator” and the Founder and CEO of Inclusivv, a visionary culture change company. She spent years running TEDxAtlanta, but got frustrated by the 1-way dialogue. She wanted to move from me-to-you “ideas worth spreading” to a conversation that could bring multiple diverse voices together for “conversations that matter.” How do you get people to engage with one another around difficult subjects? How do you get them to listen to one another and learn from the experience? How do you get bosses and subordinates from diverse backgrounds to gain common understanding? These are some of the questions that Jennifer has been able to answer with her unique “conversation technology” that's at the heart of what her company, INCLUSIVV, does. One part of the conversation that made my mind explode just a bit was how this “conversation technology” can be used to get people to engage more deeply and meaningfully at events, in book launches and around programs you may run in your company. She is on a mission to design a more inclusive and sustainable world by using the art of conversation to drive real and lasting change. I've spent my professional career pioneering the relationship between core wounds and marketing, but this interview with Dr. Mario Martinez was one I didn't see coming! He has pioneered the direct link between your emotional wounds and your immune response, with credible research evidence to back it up. He's a true visionary who blew my mind with his research and the emotional “antidotes” to negative immune responses in the body. Dr. Mario Martinez is a clinical neuropsychologist and cultural psychoneuroimmunologist. In his biocognitive model, Mario identifies complex pathways showing how our cultural beliefs affect our immune, nervous, and endocrine systems, and translates them to create practical applications. He is the preeminent proponent of cultural psychoneuroimmunology, and has published numerous articles on “causes of health” based on his research with healthy centenarians on five different continents. He has studied healthy centenarians worldwide and found that only 20 to 25% can be attributed to genetics - the rest is related to how they live and the cultural beliefs they share. He is the author of the bestselling book The MindBody Code: How to Change the Beliefs that Limit Your Health, Longevity, and Success that teaches his theory and practice of biocognitive science to the general public. Emma is a mental health pioneer, bringing the work of mental health to the center of corporate environments, with a particular emphasis on supporting traditionally marginalized people. Early in Emma's own career, her struggles with depression and anxiety seemed to culminate on dreaded Sundays. Writing was a huge part of her healing journey, and she started sharing her stories on her blog Survingsundays.com and @surviving_sundays on Instagram, which went viral. She then started inviting other people to share their experience, seeking to create a space for people to feel held and supported outside of therapy. Today she's the head of mental heath at a premier inclusion consultancy, Utopia, which is spearheading the work of mental health in the workplace. Dr. Rachel Yehuda PhD is a highly respected leader and true pioneer in the field of epigenetics, intergenerational trauma, and the use of psychedelic-assisted therapies. A few years ago, a Dr Yehuda released a groundbreaking study on the children of Holocaust survivors, demonstrating how the lessons from trauma to be passed down intergenerationally, through markers in the genes. We talk about the implications of that on our society, and how psychedelics are providing great promise in supporting people to resolve deep-seeded traumas that they otherwise can't seem to access. Dr. Yehuda stresses that while the maladaptive responses trauma are handed down, so are the responses that create resiliency. My hope is that this conversation will help you see that when you engage in personal and leadership development, that work sits inside of a larger cultural and intergenerational container. I've always been fascinated by the nature of TIME. What is it? Does it even exist? How can a new understanding of time help leaders get off the treadmill of constant quest to succeed? And what about connecting with loved ones who have passed? Are we really doing that when we feel our ancestors are near? This week's episode is a little different for me because I'm not talking with a spiritual teacher about these things - I'm talking with celebrated astronomer, Colin Stuart, an expert on the science of time. Colin has this amazing superpower of making complex concepts simple and easy to understand, especially for a science novice like me. Colin's nineteen books have sold over 400,000 copies worldwide and been translated into 21 languages. His latest book, TIME: 10 things you should know, explores the physics of time. James Trapp exemplifies overcoming adversity. The oldest of eight children, he was abandoned by his birth mother during his formative years. Nevertheless, he attended Princeton University, and became a successful criminal defense attorney in South Florida. It all came crumbling down when he became addicted to drugs while defending some nefarious Miami Vice types. He lost everything and at his lowest moved into a halfway house where he began to explore spirituality. He now knows this was all part of his journey into his true calling. “If someone had told me a few years earlier that there were a thousand things I might do with my life, being a minister wouldn't have been one of them. But here I am — and it's definitely who I am.” He became an ordained minister in 1994, and started pastoring Unity on the Bay (UOTB) in Miami. By 2005, over 70 percent of the congregation was between ages 20 and 49 and Sunday attendance increased from 125 congregants in 1994 to more than 1300 in 2005. Revenues grew from $200,000 in 1994 to nearly $1.9 million in 2005, when Dr. Trapp became President and CEO of Unity Worldwide Ministries (UWM), overseeing over 2,000 churches. What I love about James is his humility and vision. He says, “We are not here to casually observe the unfolding of history. We are here to consciously participate in its revelation. Our world is remade, reformed, and transformed by the cutting-edge ideas we are in conversation about on a daily basis." John Wolfstone is a burgeoning leader on a mission to help revitalize adulthood initiation rites of passage in a modern context. We talk about the need for adult initiation, the role they can play in our contemporary lives, and how they support leaders in learning to trust themselves with power, so they can use it honorably. We also discuss The Sacred Matrix, a feature length documentary film John is releasing this year about the work of the Tamera Peace Research & Education Community in Portugal, which is one of Earth's most radical social experiments in human futurism. John shares many of the lessons that Tamara has learned and a model they teach about a new regenerative, nonviolent planetary culture, with the vision of a post-patriarchal civilization free of violence and war. How do we get more people's voices heard - especially in corporate environments where power usually stays concentrated at the top? That's a question that Patrice Gordon is helping to address with a novel approach to “reverse mentorship.” Typically reverse mentorship is when a junior employee mentors a senior leader in an organization. Patrice is using it specifically to address power inequity, giving People of Color, LGBTQ peole and others whose voices are typically marginalized the opportunity to share their expeirence, first hand, with a senior leader (who is often cis geneder, white, and male). In this conversation, Patrice shares her experience of pioneering this approach at Virgin Atlantic, some of the pit-falls people can fall into when setting this up in their organizations, and the hard-won lessons that create success. Patrice is an emerging leader whose voice is being amplified by TED, Brene Brown, and in her forthcoming book: ‘Reverse Mentoring: Removing barriers and building a more inclusive workplace,” which will be published in November, 2022. Dan Petroski is a visionary winemaker and change agent in Napa Valley. He left a promising publishing career at Time Inc. to become a winemaker, and just over a decade later, was named ‘Winemaker of the Year' by the San Francisco Chronicle. He has crafted perfect 100-point score wines and had his wines named in the ‘Top 100 Wines of the Year' by Wine Enthusiast… just to name a few accolades. But it's his pioneering voice on climate in Napa (back when no one wanted to hear it), and his avant garde approach to marketing that captured my attention. We talk about everything from the future of wine to why his winery started an online magazine taking on social issues. There are few people I know who can effectively build bridges between the least likely among us, but my friend Rich Tafel is one of them. He's a strategist working on the frontlines of social change in the areas of faith, politics, and business. We talk about how and why he founded the Log Cabin Republicans in the 90s (an effort to work inside the party to affect change and get AIDS funding passed by the national government). We talk about bridging the ever-widening chasm between the left and the right in an effort to end hyper-partisanship in American politics. More recently he helped run the nation's first statewide social entrepreneur competition out of Detroit. He also shares his thoughts on social entrepreneurs combining the best of capitalism and the social sector towards sustainable systems change worldwide. We discuss the current state of the world in the frame of spiritual evolution and creating a new world. As a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University who was in the middle of postgraduate study (law and public health), Chandra was an unlikely inmate. She was arrested on identity theft charges that remain on appeal, and served more than six years at the York Correctional Institution, Connecticut's only state women's prison. Chandra was the first inmate to write a regular newspaper column from behind bars which was called “Prison Diaries.” Prison Diaries is now a weekly blog of columns written by Chandra while she was still incarcerated. She also has an award-winning syndicated column called The Outlaw, which appears in over 150 daily and weekly newspapers around the country. “We're all outlaws because an outlaw simply is someone who's “excluded from the benefit or protection of the law.” She says she's here to spark transformation because “changing one person's mind is a revolution.” GUEST LINKS: WEB: http://prison-diaries.com/ COLUMN: https://www.creators.com/features/the-outlaw FB: https://www.facebook.com/chandra.bozelko IG: https://www.instagram.com/prisondiaries Twitter: https://twitter.com/chandrabozelko To find more about Jeffrey's work, go to: https://thecourageousmessenger.com/ If you like this show, please leave us a review here - even a one-sentence review helps!
Brett Jones says he knew as a kid that he wasn't attracted to girls like the other boys he knew. But he didn't have a name for how he felt until he heard a sermon denouncing the evils of homosexuality. “Oh, that's what it's called” he thought. But even before that sermon, he knew his sexuality wasn't something he'd be discussing with his father, a Vietnam-era fighter pilot. In fact, when Brett was 16, his parents kicked him out the house when they learned of his interest in other boys. Brett never considered his sexuality to be his most defining characteristic. His most defining characteristic was his ambition. As he puts it in his book, "I was somehow determined to become a Navy SEAL. I was going to prove to the world that this 'faggot' would accomplish what tens of thousands of straight men had failed to do.” After he was outed, Brett says “I had a lot of really hateful thoughts "I drank a lot, and I was a very angry person - but I realized I had to change something. I've managed to forgive everyone -- the Navy, everyone." "It was a process, a coming to grips with the fact that there was absolutely nothing I could do by holding onto that resentment” He is the author of Pride: The Story of the First Gay Navy SEAL, which he wrote as a love letter to his son. He also wrote, produced, and stars in the movie Once a Hero, based on his life, which aims to bring awareness to PTSD for veterans. Tonya Surman is a master gardener of social innovation. Tonya's journey began when she was four years-old. Her mother left, and her father became the sole parent. Tonya, her Father and younger sister struggled with poverty. She says, “My father raised us on love, not food.” She points to this experience as the source of her resilience, strength and a need to create an impact. At the age of 19, Tonya left university life behind and traveled the world. While she was living in a small hut on the Andaman Sea in Thailand, news arrived that a nearby village had been devastated by a mudslide. The primary contributing factor was deforestation. This helped her to draw a direct correlation between the environment and social economic issues. Tonya is now one of Canada's leading social entrepreneurs and a pioneer in the coworking and social enterprise movements. She has a passion for bringing life to world-changing projects. Highlights from her 20-year career include co-founding and leading the Centre for Social Innovation which is a collaborative workspace, a community, and a launchpad for over 1000 social enterprises. She also developed the Constellation Model - a multi-stakeholder partnership framework that was used for a number of projects, including banning toxic chemicals in baby bottles, organizing 40,000+ Ontario nonprofits into a network with policy-making clout, launching the Ontario Catapult Microloan Fund with government, corporate and nonprofit partners, and creating the Community Bond, a social finance tool that raised $6.3 million to purchase two buildings in downtown Toronto for social innovation. Tonya is the recipient of numerous awards: the Ashoka Foundation, Canadian Urban Institute, Toronto Community Foundation, New Media Awards, the Trillium Foundation, and Entrepreneur of the Year for Socialight Canada are among the many organizations that have recognized her leadership and contributions. Adrian Tam is a crusading, 28 year old, LGBT representative in the Hawaii State Legislature. He defeated a Proud Boys opponent to win his seat, with 63 percent of the vote. He is the first openly gay member of the Hawaii State Legislator and says his real victory was not in defeating a Proud Boys opponent in the general election, but rather unseating a 12 year incumbent in the primary. He was born and raised in Honolulu, where he now represents District 22 serving Waikiki and Ala Moana. He serves as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Health, Human Services, and Homelessness, and as a member of the House Committee on Culture and the Arts and the Committee on Finance. As a young, soft-spoken gay man, people tried to dissuade him from running, but he felt he “had to” no matter the odds because no one was doing the work for the people. We discuss his calling to run for state government, his commitment to the people, and how he decided to move from activist to advocate in his leadership. Angie Wang is wickedly funny, deeply spiritual, swears like a sailor, and has the kind of blunt honesty that's incredibly refreshing. She grew up poor with working class Asian parents in Newark NJ. She didn't grow up as a "model minority,” belying the stereotypes of quiet, polite, affluent Asians. She has the gumption to say, “I'm going to do it,” which led her to make her first feature film, MDMA. It's based on her time at Rutgers when she got a student job in the Chemistry lab and made ecstasy to sell. One reason she loves film is the ability to bring positive Asian role models to the media… including “unmodel minorities.” GUEST LINKS: FB: https://www.facebook.com/angie.s.wang IG: https://www.instagram.com/jadegirlsmom Twitter: https://twitter.com/jadegirlsmom To find more about Jeffrey's work, go to: https://thecourageousmessenger.com/ If you like this show, please leave us a review here - even a one-sentence review helps!

Jane Elliott went from a 3rd grade school teacher in Riceville, Iowa to one of the world's most recognized lecturers on race. The day after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. In April 1968, she changed her 3rd grade lesson plan to what she became known for - her ‘Blue eyes/Brown eyes” exercise. It exposes prejudice and bigotry for what it is - an irrational class system based upon purely arbitrary factors. She has since led this exercise in civic and corporate settings for many decades, highlighting the arbitrary and irrational basis of prejudice, an issue that Americans continue to grapple with more than five decades after she started. She's a real firecracker with a huge heart and an unapologetic voice that's on full display in this conversation! This week, Emma talks with Jeffrey Van Dyk, the founder of the Tribal Marketing Method, in a transformational conversation about core wounds and what they can teach us about our market. Jeffrey defines a core wound as an identity-based belief that we adopt for survival purposes that at a soul level is fundamentally untrue: I’m a failure, I’m stupid, I’m unlovable, I’m an outcast. Listen in as Jeffrey and Emma talk about wound driven operating systems (and purpose driven operating systems) and how to find the ‘one square inch of the market that you can drill a mile deep’. You don’t want to miss this!
Today's guest, Jeffrey Van Dyk, is both an insightful expert in personal development and a powerful, inspiring speaker. We discuss wounding childhood experiences, which are fundamentally confusing and lead to us blame ourselves. As a result, we feel unworthy, unlovable, inferior, and unwanted. If you’re ready to overcome that battle and step into your life’s legacy, this is the episode for you! Find Out More About Jeffrey Here: jeffreyvandyk.com jeffreyvandyklive.com tribalmarketing.biz Jeffrey Van Dyk on LinkedIn @jeffreyvandyk on Twitter In This Episode: [01:29] - Jeffrey mentions the series of breakthroughs that it has taken for him to reach where he is today. [04:06] - We hear more about what Jeffrey means about working from the inside out. He also reveals that he was at battle with himself when he began in the personal development field. [06:57] - How, exactly, does the active imagination journaling that Jeffrey has been talking about work? [12:17] - Jeffrey digs into the topic of feeling unworthy, which can lead people to self-sabotage or fall into a sense of worthlessness. He also discusses wounding experiences and why they lead to us blaming ourselves. [17:43] - Stephan steps in to clarify: your whole life is driven by and patterned around childhood wounds, such as the specific example that Jeffrey mentioned. Jeffrey then points out why siblings with similar experiences may have different responses. [20:34] - In the first half of life, we seek to get confirmation of our own value externally. The spiritual journey, though, reveals that you’ll never get that externally and need to find it within yourself. [21:27] - What’s the opposite of a wound-driven operating system? [23:28] - Stephan relates what Jeffrey has been saying to his own study of Kabbalah. [26:28] - Jeffrey responds to Stephan’s description of Kabbalistic steps. He then offers an image involving finding treasure on a beach to describe his viewpoint. [29:32] - Jeffrey uses a tool called somatic presencing with his clients. He describes how this works and walks us through its steps. [34:17] - Step Four of Jeffrey’s process reminds Stephan of something he learned from monks in India, as he describes here. [34:53] - Jeffrey shares a story of his own related to the concept Stephan mentioned of letting the tiger devour you. [40:14] - Stephan points out that the things you’re pushing away and avoiding can reveal the path forward. [41:52] - We learn about Jeffrey’s event Called to Lead. In this interview with Jeffrey Van Dyk, you’ll learn the hidden keys that can unlock your greatness and help you take a giant leap into the joyful work you're meant to do in the world. Jeffrey is a thought leader in a new paradigm that’s emerging-a paradigm upon which coaching is built. You are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. But if you’re like most people, you don’t always feel that way. There may be parts of your personality you'd rather hide from the world, thank you very much! Were you to hide, however, you (and the world) would be losing a lot. Each time you brush a part of yourself away, you “cloak” your power and tether yourself to your smallness. The good news is you can transform your darkest parts and deepest wounds into your greatest strengths. Beth and I will ask our guest about that transformational process in this week’s interview. We always learn something when we're with Jeffrey-he's had an amazing impact on our lives. It's our honor and pleasure to share him with you! Jeffrey is a leader in the coaching industry and has helped hundreds of people worldwide find their higher purpose. With his business partner, Suzanne Falter-Barns, he helps conscious entrepreneurs package their purpose into a powerful online platform to bring their message to the world. Jeffrey has nearly two decades of experience in training and development, having worked in high tech before moving into the professional coaching arena. While at Microsoft, Jeffrey worked personally with leaders such as Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Peter Jennings, Ariel Sharon and Jacques Chirac. Jeffrey is president emeritus of the International Coach Federation’s San Francisco chapter and trains coaches worldwide as faculty of the True Purpose Institute, Dream Coach University, and through his own events at the Spiritual Marketing Quest.
