She knew she wanted to experience as many different areas as possible in the field to find her niche, so she sought out work in every setting afterward. She did PRN work at an inpatient rehab hospital, worked at an SNF, worked on the assistive technology team with a school district and with self-contained classrooms at the high school, PRN work in acute care, SLP for elementary students, SLP for self-contained medically fragile classrooms and Autism support classrooms, teletherapy for elementary, middle, and high school students, and on—everything but Home Health. Her therapy areas of interest are working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Assistive Technology, and Neuro-Cognitive impairments (congenital or acquired), but she loves it all. Katie currently lives in Knoxville, TN with her husband and two pups, Rosie, and Gracie. She loves hiking, walking/playing with the dogs, digging in the dirt, and planting flowers; just being outside. She currently directs the speech therapy departments at FUNDAL (for individuals with deafblindness and multiple disabilities) and the Guatemalan Association of Down Syndrome in Guatemala City and Xela, provides teletherapy services for public school students in the United States, runs an autism education social project for Spanish speakers called LUNA (@lunautismo), and is part of the ASHA-PAHO ad hoc committee for Ecuador. Amanda serves as an adjunct research fellow working with five doctoral students in the SLPD program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah, and will be teaching in the masters of autism studies and masters of speech-language pathology programs as an adjunct professor at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana beginning in the summer of 2021. Dr. Stanford is the first and only Juvenile Forensic SLP in the United States. Her clinical and scholarly work specializes in Juvenile Forensics, Law Enforcement Interaction with youth with CD, and child language disorders. Her research focuses on the Confluence and Impact of cognitive and communication disorders on the school-to-confinement pipeline, status offenses, involvement with the criminal justice system, law enforcement interaction, and criminal recidivism in youth placed at-risk for delinquency and crime (especially Black and Brown youth from under-resourced areas). Dr. Stanford is also a clinically certified and licensed speech-language pathologist and is licensed to practice in Maryland, Washington, D.C, and North Carolina. She also helped develop a grant-funded speech program with the Down Syndrome Association of Texas known now as PEAK (Parents Empowering Articulation in Kids). In 2018, Shelley created her own private practice, Empower TeleSpeech Therapy, where she conducts all therapy services via teletherapy. Soon after opening her practice, Shelley launched her Speech Empowerment Program which partners with college transition programs designed to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (Aggie ACHIEVE, ClemsonLIFE, and EAGLES Program at Auburn).
