In this episode we sit down with Lisa Schwartz—content creator, author, and new mom—as she shares her intense and unexpected experience with postpartum cardiomyopathy. Lisa opens up about the frightening health scare that struck shortly after her daughter's birth, leading to heart failure and an extended hospital stay. Through humor and honesty, she recounts the warning signs she initially dismissed, the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare, and how this life-threatening condition reshaped her approach to motherhood and privacy. This episode offers valuable insights into the realities of postpartum health, patient advocacy, and the need for awareness around lesser-known maternal health issues. Takeaways: Postpartum cardiomyopathy is a rare but serious condition that can occur after childbirth, leading to heart failure and requiring immediate medical attention. Self-advocacy in healthcare is vital; Lisa's persistence helped her receive a proper diagnosis despite initial dismissals of her symptoms as anxiety. Understanding the symptoms of heart failure—such as swelling, shortness of breath, and fluid buildup—is essential for early intervention. The journey of recovery and adapting to new motherhood after a health crisis can be daunting, but Lisa's story highlights resilience and hope. Raising awareness of postpartum health risks helps empower women to seek care and advocate for themselves during and after pregnancy. — Want to Learn About Lisa Schwartz: Instagram: @lisaschwartz YouTube: youtube.com/lisbug — To Get Tickets to Wife & Death: You can visit Glaucomflecken.com/live We want to hear YOUR stories (and medical puns)! As leaders, we hear about the importance of making strategic choices based on “the data.” But what if that's not the whole story? What if there was a way to look deeper past the numbers, glean better insights, and use a more analytical approach to drive better decisions and organizational growth? What if this shift in thinking was the key to adaptation — which is now more important than ever? Our guest this week is someone who can teach us how to think that way. As a Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Schwartz pinpoint changes in Mathematica's business context and determine how the organization will adapt to stay strong and competitive. She drives operational excellence by overseeing day-to-day business performance, establishing and maintaining alignment across all business leaders, and tracking, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting key performance indicators. Tune into the full episode for more on how leaders can make better evidence-based strategic decisions, new expectations of today's crop of leaders, how to design a better hybrid work experience at an organization, and more. Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn: More about the purpose and origin story of Lisa's company, Mathematica — and why the organization is not a “profit maximizing” company What led Lisa to leaving academia, why her story is about “stepping on and off new paths,” and what she had to change about herself when she stepped into a COO role The thing Lisa said to her CEO that “no business book” would ever advise you to do The “palpable energy” Lisa felt at the beginning of the COVID pandemic — and why she's trying to recreate that level of human connection within her company How the expectations of leaders have changed post-pandemic, and why Lisa believes this is the era of “compassionate leadership” Why the hybrid work experience became the most important piece to figure out in Mathematica's strategic plan In the time of generative AI, why Lisa believes there's more need for “humanness” The difference between data-backed and emotional decisions, and how companies can figure out how to make the best strategic choices The difference between data and evidence The daily practices that Lisa uses to be her best self, and why integrity and generosity are the metrics she uses to measure success in her personal life Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Mathematica website On the Evidence Podcast Lisa Schwartz on LinkedIn “Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart” by James R. In 2005, Lisa Schwartz was stunned when a colleague at the Oregon Public Utility Commission told her utility distribution planning budgets never saw the light of day. She thought it was a missed opportunity for consumer and stakeholder feedback on planning the future of the grid. Ever since, she has worked to increase transparency in utility planning. “In my view, having really meaningful stakeholder engagement can improve outcomes because you can get good input and a review from stakeholders. And sometimes utilities move the needle in response.”Lisa is a senior energy policy researcher and strategic advisor at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She's spent her career studying utility distribution systems. Now, she works with state commissions to make grid planning more transparent and forward looking. This week, Brad talks with Lisa about distribution plan filings, the extensive outlines for how utilities plan to spend money maintaining and upgrading power infrastructure. The filings create an opportunity for non-utilities and other stakeholders to share their ideas for the future of the grid. This podcast is produced by GridX. GridX is the Enterprise Rate Platform that modern utilities rely on to usher in our clean energy future.

“I've kept my story locked away for so long because it's so painful…and I will break the cycle.” The subject of trauma has been showing up for me personally with more frequency than ever which I view as a positive trend. A huge component of healing includes our willingness to get vulnerable and open in safe spaces. Lisa Schwartz not only has her own experiences to share, but she also comes into contact through her profession with others who have been traumatized. Through her work and her life, she has developed multiple lenses to perceive the human collective, the individual, and the sense of self that we create over our lifetime. This episode is an honest share between friends who are showing up to demystify trauma, the language we use, and most importantly, the impacts to our nervous systems. This is a very high-level approach of simply coming to awareness of how we can honor ourselves and our fellow humans, focusing on our uniqueness instead of comparing, rating, or defining ourselves by the worst things that have happened in our lives. Nothing is off limits, and you are sure to come away from this talk between friends with a fresh perspective! Questions for Lisa? Today we look forward to welcoming you back to the world of the Bachelor, kicking it off with another recap for the first episode of Clayton's season. Our guest today is YouTuber and actress, Lisa Schwartz. First, we do a report card and ask how Clayton and Jesse are doing in their roles and how the show is doing in terms of letting us learn more about Clayton, besides just his love for puppies. We dive into the Sally situation, and judge how Clayton handles a hurt contestant that is not ready for the show and to love again. We select our picks for best intros, who we think will make it to the end, and which contestants are already being edited to look like villains. We talk about how we think Teddi, a virgin, will likely lose her virginity in the Fantasy Suite, how giving away a 100 year old photo to the Bachelor may be a bad idea, and how being a good person isn't enough to be a good Bachelor. We can already tell this season is going to be fun but messy, so come join us in recapping the premiere! “Being a good Bachelor has nothing to do with being a good human being” Please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode and as always send in your relationship questions to asknick@kastmedia.com to be a part of our Monday episodes. Lisa Schwartz is here with me to talk about the intersection of ADD/ADHD with relationships and sex. We go over how ADD/ADHD can show up in various ways, strategies to build an intimate relationship, and how ADD is not just a disorder. Definition- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) Lisa's personal experience with ADD has helped her work with patients in her practice. She says that people with ADD can hyper-focus on things that grab their interest. While doing that, they may not be able to focus on things that are not of interest to them. Recognizing the behaviors of ADD/ADHD From her experience with patients in her practice, Lisa lists several behaviors such as disorganization, not being present, short-term memory issues, lack of energy, and more, that people with ADD exhibit. One can be recognized as having ADD when one or more of these behaviors begins to show themselves. How does ADD/ADHD show up in sex and relationships? Lisa uses David Reed's Erotic Stimulus Pathway model and Dennis Dailey's model of sexual beings to explain how ADD shows up in sex and relationships. Reed's model around sexual functioning talks about seduction, sensation, surrender and reflection. Lisa describes how ADD/ADHD interrupts relationships with one's partner, sexual and otherwise. Dailey's model of sexual beings categorizes human beings into sensuality, intimacy, identity, reproduction, and sexualization. These categories show up to affect individuals with ADD and their partners in sex and relationships. Tips for people with ADD/ADHD in terms of sex and relationships Lisa advises people with ADD/ADHD to take their medication to keep their focus, plan their sexual activities on a leisure day to conserve their energy, build an environment comfortable for both partners and practice mindfulness to stay present. It's also important for partners to identify ADD/ADHD and view it as separate from them in a way that doesn't impact their efforts to work on it collaboratively. Final thoughts Lisa leaves us with the message that ADD/ADHD is not necessarily a disorder, but to be viewed as something positive that enhances creativity and passion. Biography: Sexuality educator and psychotherapist with more than 20 years of experience, Lisa B. Schwartz has a doctorate in Human Sexuality Education and a master's degree in Psychological Services from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Schwartz has a private psychotherapy practice and has specialized in the area of sexuality issues since 1994. Welcoming to a diverse clientele, and varying relational partnering (couples, thrupples and others), she works with clients on a wide range of sexuality issues: for example, issues about the impact of ADD/ADHD, change in sexual desire, infidelity and enhancing sexual experiences. Licensed by the State of Pennsylvania and New Jersey to practice Marriage and Family Therapy, Lisa B. Schwartz also is licensed to provide telehealth in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Florida. Lisa Schwartz is an actress, producer, and personality who built a career on being herself for an audience of 2 million subscribers on YouTube. And being herself is about asking people to be empowered by the imperfect, and leaning into the quirks of being your age - which she did with her 2019 memoir “Thirty Life Crisis”. After going through a very public breakup a few years ago, she has finally found herself in a relationship that gives her peace, balance, and someone to lay on the bathroom floor with her when she’s hungover. I’m so lucky to have Lisa on the show today, where she taught me that there’s always hard stuff, you’re always evolving and that’s the beauty of life.
Scott went on a tirade about Metrolinx and had some of your opinions too! On a more somber note, physician-assisted suicide may have a broader base of application. Dr Lisa Schwartz talks to Scott about the implications. How does music make money? It costs next to nothing for a Spotify subscription, compared to a CD or a 45. Alan Cross lets Scott know about where the money goes and some new interesting technology that could shake up the concert industry!
In this episode of Chef AF, host Chef Adrianne Calvo chats with public relations account manager Lisa Schwartz. With over twelve years of experience working with high-profile clients, Schwartz is part of Miami’s Rockaway public relations and marketing team. She currently manages eight executive chefs—one of them being Chef Adrianne herself. Chef Adrianne and Schwartz explore the culinary industry from the perspective of a publicist.
After a fabulous month of New Reads November, it's back to literary throwbacks on the pod this week, and we're psyched to be kicking things off with a discussion of Louis Sachar's 1988 novel There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom. Over the course of this hour, Alli and her guest Lisa Schwartz chat about mental health (and the stigmas around it!), toxic masculinity, and the importance of modeling a healthy counselor relationship to kid readers. They also discuss the (sometimes gross) protocols surrounding bathroom use for elementary schoolers. And, importantly, how does the title of this book hold up in 2019?Lisa is an actress, writer, and producer, best known for her YouTube channel Lisbug, which has garnered more than 2.2 million unique subscribers. Her first book Thirty-Life Crisis is on sale now. Follow Lisa on Instagram (@lisaschwartz) and Twitter (@lilschwartzie). Thanks so much to Lisa for guesting on this episode of SSR!

They also rail against add-on tests for fertility, and the lack of evidence underpinning their use - will the traffic light system suggested help patients make treatment choices. The concept of overdiagnosis is pretty hard to get - especially if you've been educated in a paradigm where medicine has the answers, and it's only every a positive intervention in someone's life - the journey to understanding the flip side - that sometimes medicine can harm often takes what Stacey Carter director of Research for Social Change at Wollongong university described in an preventing overdiagnosis podcast last year as a “moral shock” - https://soundcloud.com/bmjpodcasts/preventing-overdiagnosis-2017-stacy-carter-on-the-culture-of-overmedicalisation This year, we asked some of the leaders in the field to describe what it was that opened their eyes to overdiagnosis and overtreatment - and recorded the session for you. You'll hear from Fiona Godlee, editor in Chief of The BMJ, Steve Woloshin and Lisa Schwartz, directors of the Center for Medicine and Media at The Dartmouth Institute, John Brodersen - professor of general practice at the University of Copenhagen, and Barry Kramer - director of the Division of Cancer Prevention at the U.S. National cancer institute. The
This week saw the latest Preventing Overdiagnosis conference - this time in Copenhagen. The conference is a is a forum where researchers and practitioners can present examples of overdiagnosis - and we heard about the various ways which disease definitions are being subtly widened, and diagnostic thresholds lowered. In this podcast we talk to Allen Frances, psychiatrist and former chair of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. We also hear from friends of the podcast, Steve Woloshin and Lisa Schwartz about the way in which some disease awareness campaigns fuel inappropriate diagnosis. https://www.preventingoverdiagnosis.net/ https://www.bmj.com/too-much-medicine

On episode 30 of #ThatPodcast, LPiddy and Jon Jon spill the tea of the disaster that is this year's #TanaCon! TanaCon was to take place June 22 and 23, 2018 at the Anaheim Marriott Suites in Anaheim/Garden Grove, California, a short distance from the controversial Vidcon, which was being held in the Anaheim Convention Center, in, of course, Anaheim, California. TanaCon was supposed to be the more inclusive version of Vidcon, due to creator's frustration with safety concerns last year. The irony is that TanaCon was shut down by the Fire Marshall and Anaheim Fire Department due to large crows, riots and, ultimately, safety. According to tweets and reports, TanaCon sold about 5000 non-paid and paid tickets to this year's event. The first day of Tanacon, approximately 15,000 additional patrons, without tickets, swarmed the quaint Anaheim Marriott, with many fans waiting hours to either get into a tight convention or never get in at all. At the end of the day, TanaCon was cancelled. TanaCon's slogan this year was "Where Everyone is a Featured Creator" and was presented by Tana Mongeau and Good Times. Slated to appear were (in order on their site): Shane Dawson, Casey Neistat, Bella Thorne, Miranda Sings, Ricky Dillon, Trevor Moran, Elijah Daniel, JennXPenn, The Gabbie Show, Mario Selman, Ashly Schwan, Imari Stuart, Christine Sydelko, Adam22, Lena The Plug, Call Me Karizma, Chris Klemens, Emma Chamberlain, Corinna Kopf, Bradlee Wannemacher, Loey Lane, Zane Hijazi, Scotty Sire, Kristen McAtee, Heath Hussar, Matt King, Toddy Smith, Jackson Krecioch, LARRAY, Nate Garner, Cody Herbinko, Wesley Tucker, Karlee Steel, Dr. Woke, Rickey Thompson, Jack Baran, The Bell Twins, Conner Bobay, Raphael Gomes, Sarah Baska, Juwany Roman, Zach Clayton (BadZach), Danielle Cohn, Matthew Taylor, Cloe Couture, Griffin Arnlund, Oscar Wylde (Caked Up), Arii, Kylie Rae, Aaron Fuller, Lauren Godwin, Lisa Schwartz, Kyra Santoro, GotDamnZo, Weston Koury, Morgan Adams, Carrington Durham, Andrew Siwicki, Brittany Balyn, Nathalie Paris, Ryland Adams, Aaron Melloul, 99GoonSquad, Jazmine Garcia, Jonas Bridges, Cody Ko, Derek Kildall, Nikki Blackketter, Infinite Lists, Jessie Paege, Papa Jake, Brandon Rogers, Tyler Brown, Justin Blake, PRETTYMUCH, Nicolette Gray, Kiera Bridget, Anna Campbell, Jac Doherty, Mahogany LOX, Com3t, Somehoodlum and "MANY MORE." In December 2017, the NEJM's national corespondent, Lisa Rosenbaum, published an article “The Less-Is-More Crusade — Are We Overmedicalizing or Oversimplifying?” The article aimed a broadside against those who are campaigning against the overuse of medicine, and the over diagnosis of treatment. This week in the BMJ we've published a rebuttal to that article, and in this podcast we talk to Steve Woloshin and Lisa Schwartz - both professors at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Steve and Lisa's article carefully deconstructs some of the ideas advanced by Rosenbaum, but in this podcast we discuss how much separate camps are forming in this debate - and how to have a constructive dialogue across that divide. Also Steven Woloshin and Lisa Schwartz, authors of the "Not So Stories" column have turned their statistical scrutiny onto a recent advert by Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the breast cancer charity. Hear from former Saxelby Cheesemonger Jon Bonanno on the latest episode of Cutting the Curd. Jon has worn a variety of hats in the cheese world: farm assistant at Consider Bardwell, cheesemonger at Saxelby Cheesemongers and Cavaniola’s Tribeca, and cheesemaker at Rainbeau Ridge Farm in Bedford Hills (the farm of Lisa Schwartz, maker of the awardwinning Meridian), as well as an active home cheesemaker. After a couple years as a parttime assistant cheesemaker, he arranged to lease the cheesemaking facility at Rainbeau Ridge when Schwartz recently decided to take a sabbatical. He is now — under the name Arattom Dairy — producing the ash-coated Cinder (roughly based on the Meridian recipe) and fresh chevres, as well as developing a variety of tommes, fetas and more that will be coming to market soon. Rainbeau is a true farmstead facility: while you stand in the make room, the bleats of the goats in the nearby enclosures are audible and each day the milk travels just a few hundred feet from milking parlor to vat. When Schwartz went on sabbatical, the herd was reduced from 40 to 14, although the biggest producers were kept, so milk production dropped by just 30 percent. Due to limited space, the goats are fed hay supplemented with grains rather than pastured, but live comfortable lives spent mostly lounging in shade; the quality of the milk attests to that. Jon’s interactions with the animals are limited due to his full cheesemaking schedule, but he hopes to expand his role and is interested in the possibilities of new partnerships between cheesemakers and farmers. Cutting the Curd is underwritten by The Dairy Farm Families of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.
