Catch Part 1 of this 2-part series here. Raising kids the embodied way is an experiment I'm in the midst of. I have a 5 year and 8 month old who are both stubborn, intelligent, creative, brilliant kids. I'm constantly exploring how I can employ emotionally intelligent values in the way I parent. To be clear, this isn't my speciality, or body of work. I'm a somatic educator & coach, but parenting isn't my zone of mastery. Today's podcast came about from a listener's request and it's something I'm so happy to shed some light on. Today I'm sharing 10 strategies I use with my kids. Specific little techniques, tricks, approaches or resources I do. This is moreso with my 5 year old, but the principles and some of the practices still apply for my baby. If you have old kids, most of these will still be relevant. Today we're kicking off a 4-part series with return guest Layla Martin, where they will take you through their recent Priestess Pilgrimage through Greece. Together, they traveled to several sacred sites to have a visceral experience of the very same places where priestesses were serving medicine and practicing sacred sexuality rituals that helped to form the very fabric of Western society. Things like democracy, theater, even religion. In Part 1 they discuss what it means to be a high priestess, and why reclaiming words like “witch” and “priestess” empower people to connect with their own divinity. They also introduce the religion that has no name – something that humans have been practicing for millenia in order to connect with God through Nature, plants, animals, their own bodies, dance, music, medicines, breath, trance and meditation. Layla and Emily also give a history lesson on why people used to travel to Eleusis to change their perception of death and the afterlife. Plus, they explore why it's so hard to control people who have access to psychedelics and modalities such as breathwork, yoga, meditation and sacred sexuality. So why isn't everyone using psychedelics to tap into the divine? Discover the reason in this week's episode of Why Isn't Everyone Doing This? It's easy to get emotionally attached to things. Sometimes we hold on to useless items just because it reminds us of a different time. Pastor Johnny talks to us today about what we must forsake to follow Christ. You're called to leave everything, take up your cross and follow Him. It seems a little extreme, but God has your best interest in mind. He loves you and wants to see you grow in Him. Don't forget that God knows best and He would never ask you to abandon anything if it wasn't for your own good.
It can be tricky to trust someone when you don't know their intentions. Pastor Johnny reminds us today that God never changes; He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. You know His word and His promises and therefore you know His intentions. He sent His son to earth to die in your stead that you may live with Him forever in Heaven. He doesn't want to spend eternity apart from you. If you don't obey through faith, you'll stay in the shallows and there will be no fish within your reach.
Have you ever been hesitant about commitment? People in general aren't very trustworthy and so we've all been through mistrust and heartache. Pastor Johnny talks to us today about being fully committed to God. If the person you love wasn't driven by selfishness and emotions, it'd be much easier to trust in them. Well God never changes. The promises He's made to you stand true today. Remember that your Father in Heaven would never ask you to do something if it wasn't for your good.
