POPULARITY
Hey Friend! This episode is more than just a moment of remembrance—it's an invitation to realignment. Memorial Day carries deep meaning for me, not only as a veteran and widow of a fallen hero, but as someone who has walked through the fire of grief and come out the other side with a sharper sense of purpose. In this episode, I'm inviting you into a conversation about life, legacy, and the kind of leadership that matters most. Whether you wear a uniform or not, your life leaves an imprint. Today, we pause to reflect on what kind of legacy we're living—and how to make sure it aligns with the calling God placed in us.

Best-known as a co-founder of the Canadian art-rock band Rheostatics, Tim also performs with his own band The Violet Archers. "Patience like a farmer recognizes that we aren't the only force working on whatever it is we are currently tending to."How would you describe your relationship with patience?//James 5:7-10Be patient, therefore, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. Brothers and sisters, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.//This episode was written and recorded by Rev. Bekende nummers zijn ondermeer Rags 'n' Run, Ever Present, Oh Darkness, Recipe For Disaster, Living For the Weekend, Always On the Run, Coming Of the Night en Not In It 4 Love. Jerzy Kosinski: Aanwezig
Mothers for Peace / For the very first time, in front of cameras and microphones and for the whole world to see, two Turkish Cypriot mothers and two Greek Cypriot mothers sit down to discuss their thoughts, worries and hopes about raising children in a country of conflict and division. Having recently completed a workshop on peace, leadership and mediation with a group of Cypriot women from all over the island, Eleni Antoniou, Pembe Mentesh, Katerina Stephanou and Aysenur Talat discuss what it was like as young girls growing up, the stories and narratives they were told about the war and about ‘the other side'. They unpack the intergenerational trauma they saw and still see in our society, their role as mothers with children who want to move past the fighting and the conflict and what they believe can be done to heal the wounds. A special thanks to Hands Across the Divide for organising the Mindful Leadership workshop, to Art of Living and the International Association of Human Values for creating this beautiful bridge between our communities. So yeah, Portugal was great, fantastic all around.....but the airports got me. Usually I'm all about the airport culture and environment, but I couldn't wait to get out this time... What's our perspective when things don't go our way? They won't all the time, so we should embrace it. Perhaps being more optimistic in those tough times could help us out in the moment, and prepare us to help others as they go through their own struggles too. Journey with us this week as we take a trip into Motown with arguably the greatest funk, soul and r&b artist of all time - Stevie Wonder and his landmark album Innervisions. Shayne and Andrew take a look at the man who reshaped R&B music with his unique blend of synthesisers and electronic instruments and nearly didn't survive to make another album after an horrific crash. This is the story of Innervisions and Stevie Wonder's "Classic" period. Songs from Innervisions includes: Living For the City Too High Visions Golden Lady Higher Ground Jesus Children of America Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing He's Misstra Know It All Check out our Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/MusicThatChangedTheWorld and our Instagram page... https://www.instagram.com/thebeatgenerationpodcast/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As I've studied this story, this is what I see that stands out: How his relationship with his father formed him, and his how his dreams gave him purpose. Joseph had an IDENTITY and a PURPOSE that stood the test. It's one thing to THINK you know who you are when things are good, because it's theoretical. But when a trial hits, the truth is revealed. Difficulty and testing reveal where our identity is rooted, but it also shows us what we're LIVING FOR. Joseph carried a DREAM that God used to deposit PURPOSE in his heart, and it oriented him through all the storms he would encounter.

¹ Sylvester James Jr., known simply as Sylvester, was an American singer-songwriter. Primarily active in the genres of disco, rhythm and blues, and soul, he was known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, falsetto singing voice, and hit disco singles in the late 1970s and 1980s. After releasing his self-titled debut album in 1977, he had moderate success on the Disco charts with "Over and Over," which is represented here by DJ Meme's exceptional tribute mix. Sylvester followed up in 1978 with "Step II," which generated the monumental hits "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" featuring backup singers Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes as Two Tons O' Fun. Several years later, the lady's went on to their own gay icon status with the iconic "It's Raining Men" as the Weather Girls after Barbra Streisand passed on the track for her water-themed album "Wet." It should also be noted that Patrick Cowley was invited to join this session and became instrumental in the synthesized arrangements of his biggest hits. He would later play an even more important role in Sylvester's success. The subsequent album "Stars" did moderately well and generated the fabulous "I (Who Have Nothing)" but failed to generate the excitement of the previous album. Subsequent albums faired poorly as Sylvester moved away from his disco roots after the backlash of the "disco sucks" movement. After leaving his label and taking more control over his music, he partnered with Patrick Cowley again on his small imprint Megatone Records out of San Francisco. By this time, NRG music was exploding in the gay clubs and Cowley was at the forefront of the new dance sound. The lead single "Do Ya Wanna Funk" was a massive success and considered to be one of the all-time gay anthems. It was during this tour in the UK that Sylvester got news of Cowley's death from AIDS. Sylvester would go on to release a couple of more albums with uneven success until his final album "Mutual Attraction" with Megatone that was distributed through Warner Brothers (though I thought it was Columbia) found great success on the dance charts with "Someone Like You," "Living For the City" and the title track. As his health began to deteriorate — his next album was never finished nor released. Creating this tribute set was hands down the most difficult I've ever completed. The music spans five decades including originals with remixes from the 90's to present day. Tempos ranged from 147 to 106 bpm. The decision as to what to include and what to drop was torturous and taming some of the older material into a more cohesive DJ friendly environment was a challenge. Ultimately, I believe I did the man proud or so I hope. Sylvester is an American icon and an openly gay man who not only embraced his sexuality but paved the way for the transgendered and the letter "Q" at the end of our representation (likely unintentionally because he was neither — just Sylvester). There's no doubt that his presentation of queerness was shocking to middle America but he ignited the fire that paved the way for society to become more accepting of those that just want to be themselves. There's no doubt that the world is a better place for having him in it. ¹ Wikipedia Album : Sylvester | The Diva Series Genre : Disco, NRG, House Year : 2021 Total Time : 2:31:16 1. Renowned for his androgynous allure and falsetto vocal chops, Sylvester rose to stardom in the late '70s and early '80s, turning heads and filling dance floors. Sylvester's musical journey took off with his self-titled debut album in 1977, featuring the moderately successful disco hit "Over and Over," beautifully showcased in DJ Meme's nostalgic tribute mix. The following year, he dropped the seminal album "Step II," giving us timeless dance classics like "Dance (Disco Heat)" and "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)." These hits featured backup vocalists Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes, known together as Two Tons O' Fun, who later gained gay icon status with the unforgettable "It's Raining Men" as the Weather Girls. It's imperative to recognize the influence of Patrick Cowley in shaping Sylvester's sonic landscape. Invited to participate in these sessions, Cowley's synthesized arrangements became a cornerstone of Sylvester's most iconic songs. Later, Cowley would become an even more significant contributor to Sylvester's legacy, particularly during his ventures into NRG music. Although the album "Stars" had its moments, particularly with the track "I (Who Have Nothing)," it couldn't match the seismic impact of its predecessor. Sylvester faced subsequent challenges, including the decline in popularity of disco due to the "disco sucks" backlash. This led him to part ways with his label and take greater control over his artistic direction. Reuniting with Patrick Cowley, Sylvester released music on Cowley's Megatone Records. At a time when NRG music was taking gay clubs by storm, the duo released "Do Ya Wanna Funk," a track that would become an enduring gay anthem. Tragically, during a tour in the UK, Sylvester was rocked by the news of Cowley's passing due to AIDS. Sylvester continued to release music, achieving varying degrees of success, until his final album "Mutual Attraction." Distributed through Warner Brothers, the album yielded chart-topping dance hits like "Someone Like You" and "Living For the City." Unfortunately, his declining health prevented him from completing his next album. Creating this tribute set was an emotionally taxing endeavor. The tracks span five decades, incorporating various remixes and tempos ranging from 147 to 106 bpm. The challenge was monumental, but the final result is a tribute that I believe does justice to Sylvester's indomitable spirit and incomparable talent. Sylvester wasn't just a disco sensation; he was an Amer...
