The journey to healing is as unique as our own fingerprints, and today, we're joined by Lois Wagner, a beacon of resilience and hope from South Africa. With a laugh that resonates with triumph, Lois shares her profound transformation from a survivor of a vicious attack to a guiding light for those lost in the shadows of their traumas. As she unfolds her story, we're reminded of the incredible strength we all possess and the liberating power of forgiveness. Her candid conversation about her book "Walking Without Skin" and the life-affirming SMILE acronym not only uplifts but provides practical steps towards reclaiming one's life from the clutches of past pain. Amidst our heartfelt discourse, Lois emphasizes the necessity to untangle our emotions from the events that once ensnared them, offering a chance to reshape our reactions and release ourselves from the bonds of yesteryears. Her insight into the mind-body connection and the significance of addressing our deepest emotional wounds before they manifest physically is both enlightening and empowering. Sandy Phillips Kirkham is a survivor of clergy abuse. He was 30 married, with two children, and at the age of 16, her youth pastor. The abuse lasted for five years. For 27 years she remained silent living with guilt and shame. A trigger forced her to face her past. That is when the healing began. Part of that healing meant facing her abuser after 27 years. Hiring a private detective she found him still ministering in a church in Alabama. Her journey was not an easy one but she is now a survivor and an advocate for other victims. She shares a message of prevention by helping people to understand the mind of a predator and the tools used to groom, manipulate and gaslight their victims and provides a greater understanding of the dynamics of abuse and the damage done when one suffers at the hands of a so-called clergy. She serves on the board Of The Council on Child Abuse, is the interdenominational spokesperson for The Hope of Survivor's ministry, and is a sought-after speaker and podcast guest. She resides in Cincinnati with her husband of 43 years and their two dogs. Some of Amanda Hallam's earliest memories are of hating her body. She developed orthorexia and then anorexia as a young teen. In college, she became a binge eater. For years she would find herself relapsing into any one of the three disorders in times of stress, change, or negative body image. She considers herself recovered now. Amanda eats mindfully and intuitively and uses food and movement to manage her depression and anxiety (She has been completely off of medication for 4 years now). She meditates regularly and became a Reiki practitioner because energy healing was so important in her journey. Amanda's mission is to change conversations about eating, body image, and mental health. she believes that by interrupting the generational narratives, we can create better lives for children and teens so that they don't have to experience the same struggles that she and so many others had. Her message is that no matter how far away body acceptance and love may seem, it is possible for everyone! Amanda talks about the concept of body neutrality, which is a bridge out of negative body image when body positivity feels too far away and encourages you to focus on what your bodies can do, rather than just what they look like. A teenage punk rocker, Dan Henk was kicked out of home and slept in the woods with a rock as a pillow for eight months. He was stabbed and his tendon was severed by a crackhead. He put himself through art college, moved to NYC to start a career, and then came down with brain cancer. Seven years later, after being supported by his new wife as he went through five years of chemo, radiation, and recovery, she was killed in a hit and run. He moved to Austin and was writing his first novel. A young lady plowed into him while texting and he woke up four hours later in the hospital. Moving back up north, he was driving in PA when suddenly a massive construction patch (with no warning signs) appeared after a curve in the road and his FJ40 spun out, flipped, and dove into a tree off the road. The vehicle was completely totalled, and he woke up in the woods. Regardless of all this, he kept trying to move forward. He now owns a tattoo shop in NYC, is a published author (with three books and two chapbooks out), and has done artwork for books, magazines, apparel, and bands. I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Lois Wagner. In this episode, we talk about how her outdoor adventures have taught her resilience—and how they helped her to overcome adversity and challenges in other areas of her life. Lois is a keen hiker, scuba diver, and camper. Her life has been full of both adventures and misadventures—all of which have taught her resilience. She was washed out to sea while scuba diving and was rescued by a fishing trawler.  She fell and cut her head open while hiking. She drifted 5 km off the parachute drop zone. She rolled a snowmobile. She fell off a dog sled. Did any of this stop her? No. She continued her outdoor adventures and solo travel around the world. In this episode, we talk about what your outdoor adventures can teach you about resilience—and how they can help you to grow your “resilience muscle.”   About Lois Wagner Lois Wagner is your friend for forgiveness and freedom. Helping you move from victim to survivor to thriver and beyond to freedom, after facing a life or business challenge or adversity. Lois lost a business and went bankrupt, she was attacked, raped, and left for dead, she was forced into retirement, and experienced many other challenges. Lois, a South African businesswoman, mentor, TEDx speaker, coach and author of Walking without Skin – A Journey of Healing, shares her harrowing story of being raped and left for dead while working late one summer evening. Her anger quickly led her to activism, which resulted in some key changes to the law, but didn't allow her to fully process the trauma or begin the healing phase often associated with being a survivor. Throughout her 14-year journey, she recognized that she was carrying her unresolved trauma on her back and that the journey to healing is, in fact, non-linear. Today, the forgiveness of both herself and others is directly responsible for her becoming personally empowered and has provided her with the strength to support others in their search for peace and emotional freedom from trauma.Contact Us:Email: amgits.reverse@gmail.comInstagram: @brushcreekthriversFacebook: From Survivor to Thriver

Lois Wagner, your friend for forgiveness, is an accomplished Speaker, Storyteller, Mentor, Inspirer, Learning/training facilitator, and Empowering coach through her program (using the Acronym – SMILE). S stands for speaker. M stands for mentoring, I stands for inspiring, L stands for learning facilitation, and E stands for empowering coaching. Lois's book – Walking Without Skin: A Journey of Healing – From Fear to Forgiveness to Freedom is part memoir and part self-help guide and she has a TEDx talk From Fear to Forgiveness to Freedom. If you want to fast track your journey to triumph over your trials, click this link  If you would like to participate in my next online workshop REDISCOVER THE TREASURES WITHIN - HOW TO INCREASE YOUR SELF-WORTH TO INCREASE YOUR NET WORTH, click this link  Here are the top tips of today's episode:  It is never a victim's fault There are different stages on the journey. The first is the victim stage where you are filled with blame, anger, hatred, guilt, etc., The second stage is that of survivor mode where you are trying to make meaning of what happened and get your life back together again. We can then travel to the thriver stage and beyond.  If you are experiencing physical ailments try and listen to your body and the underlying message it is trying to show you. Physical problems can be an indication that we need to give attention to something else we are missing that we need or what is missing.   This is why it is essential to deal with your emotions because if you don't the triggers will come back again and again.   it is important to sit with your emotions and work out what they are doing to you and what they are doing for you. Hate is such a negative emotion and the more we focus on negativity the more of the same we will attract. A wonderful strategy to help reconnect with positive emotions which you would like to experience more of in your life is to go through an exercise where you engage your senses and create a vision board of sorts. For example, if you want to experience more happiness, you could say happiness looks like sunshine and find a picture of the sun shining. And you could say happiness smells like apple pie and find a picture of an apple pie. And you could say happiness feels like a hug and you could find a picture of two people hugging. And you could say happiness sounds like a babbling brook. And you could say happiness tastes like homemade lemonade.  Lois has developed the anacronym BRAVE as a teaching method to help young people learn appropriate behavior. B stands for boundaries. R stands for respecting boundaries. A stands for mutual agreement. V stands for values and vulnerabilities. And E stands for empowering yourself and have equality.   When we hold onto unforgiveness it bonds us to negative emotions or feelings. When we cannot forgive, we can become weighed down by unforgiveness. It is important to understand that when you are in victim mode you are incapable of forgiving because you are still at the first stage of reacting to what has happened to you before you are able to move to survivor mode where you are beginning to process what has happened to you. Even when you are at the survivor stage, you are not yet ready to forgive completely because you are still trying to piece your life back together again. When you shift into the thriver stage where you start actively creating a new reality for yourself, then this is the time where you are able to forgive. Forgiveness happens when you are ready. I compassionately and completely forgive you and I take responsibility for my higher self and I hand it back to your higher self and I take back my power.  The more we practice forgiveness, the easier it becomes. So try Lois's tip of writing 3 things you forgive yourself for every day and 3 things you forgive others for every day. Develop that forgiveness muscle.  We can either get bitter, or we can get better.  I hope this interview inspires you to rise and shine. Lois was a late starter when it came to traveling, but she has certainly made up for lost time. At age 54, she set out to visit many countries, 49 to date, but many of her destinations of choice are to locations most of us would never consider. They were mostly solo adventures but visiting nations such as Cuba, Haiti, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and India to name a few, begs the question of, "So why not go to the more popular and safer places such as Italy, UK, France, Spain, USA, Thailand, Australia and many more?"Lois explains why and it makes sense, at least to me. Landing in Lebanon and renting a car is pushing the limits of normal behavior, but she deserves much credit for adding that element of risk to her adventures. You will also hear her story about a business relationship that ended badly, but moved from Victim to Survivor to Thriver and Beyond to Freedom. In turn, she uses her experience to inspire others.Walking Without Skin are her key words. Lois Wagner opens up about her rape story, and why her story was not well received. Lois wrote a book to help other people understand rape. She explains how there is now so much confusion about how to behave, how to be a gentleman, and what defines rape. Lois explains that we need to take a positive and productive attitude towards one another and work on communication. Men need to understand femininity, and women need to understand masculinity. Only then will we be able to really relate to one another. How do we start understanding each other, and start letting people be who they are meant to be? We must develop SELF-AWARENESS, UNDERSTANDING OUR EMOTIONS and MANAGING OUR EMOTIONS. YOU HAVE GOT TO START WITH YOU! Becoming self aware will ensure that we learn to forgive ourselves, and can then forgive others. We need to break the bonds holding us back so that we can fly free. WARNING - This episode contains strong themes of an adult nature. Please be advised This week, Lyn is joined by transformational coach and “friend for forgiveness” Lois Wagner, they discuss the ways in which we can heal the wounds caused by sexual trauma, and move forward to a new, brighter future... KEY TAKEAWAYS Forgiveness is not about helping the perpetrator to release any shame or guilt, it's about allowing the survivor to heal and release any bottled up negative emotions, so that they can take their power back, move on and live a successful life. It’s natural to feel some desire for vengence against those who do us wrong, but the real power comes in absolution and trusting that the Universe will deliver it's own justice on our perpetrators in their lifetime.  Seeking external help is not a sign of weakness, but of power. By being vulnerable and having the courage to speak out about our trauma, we let go of the weight on our shoulders and begin rapidly accelerating the healing process. The first stage of releasing any negative feelings is to safely express them in any way you can. Talk to someone, write about them, or even express them in some kind of art / craft / physical activity. BEST MOMENTS ‘You need to break that bond’ ‘Nothing triggers me back into that negative mode’ ‘As you move on, you find your resilience’ ‘You have to find the way that works for you’  VALUABLE RESOURCES Hearts Entwined Podcast Apple Podcasts (iTunes) Spotify Stitcher  ABOUT THE GUEST Lois Wagner: Your friend for forgiveness and freedom. I feel the impact is in Lois's story and show notes won't do it justice. In a nutshell, forgiveness is a choice we make. Some things are relatively easy to forgive and other things require much more time and effort. When we forgive, we set ourselves free. When we remain in unforgiveness, it takes a toll on our health (emotional, mental, spiritual and even physical). Forgiveness is a process and a choice but choosing it gives us back our freedom.

Instead of teaching boys and men, not to rape and not to hurt women, let's teach them to be BRAVE. . Instead of teaching boys and men to be strong let's teach them to be BRAVE. BRAVE means BOUNDARIES, RESPECT, AGREEMENT/ASK, VALUES, EQUALITY/EMPATHY/EMPOWERING We always say consent NO means NO, but it's more than NO means NO, it is having an enthusiastic YES. Much more than a NO, because sometimes people don't know how to say NO. Or they, they do not understood or they fearful to say no, because they think someone will laugh at them or somebody will think they are funny or not friendly. And so maybe they just to be afraid that they'll get hurt. So they, they don't say NO, but they have not said YES. Lois Wagner helps people move from situation where they've experienced some terrible trauma adversity or challenge and how to overcome that and to grow. So they grow from victim to survivor, to thriver and then to freedom. Lois helps people overcome the adversities and the challenges that have been forced upon them. Lois; "I was brutally attacked and raped, and it's just, I've spent a lot of my time helping people survive and to overcome the trauma of that. But what I really want to do is I want to stop that happening in the first place. And hence, I want to stop this kind of,this kind of angst and violence and gender-based violence among kids and teenagers. And that's what I now work on. I work on helping, working with teenagers mostly and getting them to understand how they can grow into strong, healthy adults". --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raisingteenagers/message
