The secret to writing and recording songs to completion is something that Marc Dold wants to share with all musicians. He is a songwriter, platinum-selling producer, Apple certified Logic Instructor and indie artist known as Mawk Phoenix. This is Marc's 3rd appearance on the podcast. Celebrating The Wins And Struggles Along The Way—Mawk Phoenix (Ep 131) Today's Indie Musician—Mawk Phoenix (Ep 165) Marc was living in Malta, but had relocated to nearby Gozo when we spoke for this episode. If you're like me you may need a clue as to where these places are. They are islands in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. Marc and I reconnected as he was finishing up a course called Musical Architects, which he describes as a practical workshop that teaches how to write, arrange, record, produce, mix and finalize a song. Marc has produced and re-mixed for more than 50 major artists such as Nelly Furtado, Luis Fonsi, Paul van Dyk, Peter Gabriel, En Vogue, Alice Cooper, Cindi Lauper, Luther Vandross, Erasure, and many more, leading to several top 5 Billboard Hits including 2 #1 Hits. Needless to say, he's qualified to teach you and me how to get it done. Topics of discussion… We talk a about his upcoming album and he asks me about my experience recording songs (my first two singles). Also discussed: Marc's Musical Architects course, getting stuck in the recording process, how he starts his days with deep work in mind, and house concerts. On the topic of Deep Work, Marc mentions a book he was then reading called Deep Work by Cal Newport. Since our conversation for this episode, I heard an interview with the author on the Tim Ferris Show, one of my favorite podcasts. I have since added Deep Work to my reading list. Cal Newport has his own podcast, which I'm now enjoying (link in the show notes below). Please enjoy this conversation with me and Marc Dold. Creating Content Wendy and I are new to this world of content creation.  Actually, we both have some experience leisurely writing blogs in the past, but we have never created public content that produced substantial income for us.  Well, all that is about to change, because today we spoke with Marc of the Vital Dollar Blog, and what we learned was so insightful. We will take some time to implement some of the processes he talked about, and hopefully, we can find a way to receive a bit of compensation for all the time we are putting into the show.  Who is Marc Marc is a professional blogger and content creator.   So far he has sold over $1,000,000 in profitable blogs. He currently owns and operates the blog the Vital Dollar. He has an interesting plan for reaching Financial independence while having the flexibility to work at home with his family.  He builds and sells websites. This has been so lucrative for him, that he plans to replicate the process a number of times over. In the podcast, we spoke in depth about how Marc and his wife balance full-time self-employment while raising his children. We talk about how he generates money thus far through his blogs, and what he plans to do in the future in order to reach his FI number.   Marc on Money Marc was born to low-income parents, and he learned to have respect for money early in life.  Later he became a Process Auditor (not a financial auditor). He was thankful to have a job but eventually began to grow a side hustle - a web design company.   He saw some early success with this, but he eventually found out that he enjoyed blogging more than website development.  After a year and a half into blogging and building site, he reached a point where he replaced his income and was able to leave his full-time job. Marc is trying to get to what we refer to as FAT FIRE.  Fat FIRE is when you save up more than the 25x your annual expenses (Marc is going for 50x his expenses). He only found the FIRE movement about a year ago, and through learning about the movement, he set his target savings amount according to his comfort level. Blogging as a Business Marc dedicates full-time hours to his blogging.  His routine has him devoting 50+ hours to blogging every week from home.  As he builds his blog, he makes sure to keep track of his hours. As his blog grows, his goal is to significantly reduce his hours of input.  The beginning inertia of starting a blog seems to be the hardest part. Traffic is difficult to capture and hard to sustain. How did Marc learn to build websites and to blog?  He took one course in college which taught him the basics.   Marc's Blogging Tips Stick with it - you need a long-term focus Network with other bloggers No money for the first 6 months - accept it! Make the content unique, interesting and useful Wordpress is pretty simple Put in the effort - you need to put in the effort to get traffic, Pinterest, facebook groups, blogging groups, forums etc. Marc on the final questions Money Lesson - Learned from his parents - respect money, manage it well, don’t spend what you don’t have.  Low-income parents, that made their money count. Favorite Life Hacks - Credit card rewards have brought joy to their family.  Cashback rewards towards Christmas. Family vacation towards Disney World. Book - Marc reads a lot of blogs and keeps them organized using a feed reader.  For a book, he is reading The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns - It looks at how we can impact people less fortunate. The impact we could have on poverty in other countries if we cared enough to make it a priority. Contact - VitalDollar.com contact page to email  marc@vitaldollar.com @vital_dollar on twitter.

Welcome back to another episode of Wall Street Unplugged! It's only January, but if you've followed me for the past few weeks, you've come to realize how important this month really is. I covered one key conference (CES2017) a couple weeks ago. And on today's episode, I have two more coming for you. It's a lot of information in only just a few weeks but bare with me... Each of these conferences come with game-changing announcements. To start, let’s go over what a difference a year makes... Donald Trump is now in office, and the bull market continues to get stronger. In fact, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit over 20,000 for the first time this week! This “Trump rally” has been strong for investors in every sector… except for one - Biotech. That’s why I invited Marc… Marc is Chief Income Strategist at the Oxford Club, Editor of the Oxford Income Letter and host of the Oxford Club Radio podcast. He just got back from the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference. For those not familiar, the JPMorgan Healthcare Conference its like the Superbowl for healthcare, biotech, and pharmaceuticals. To start off the interview, Marc gives us his takeaways from the event. As Marc explains, the biotech sector has recently been facing a ton of headwinds. The sector currently faces a slew of new regulations as new administration takes the reigns. And in return, the biotech sector got a bit more complex. Although times are rough today, Marc breaks down his opportunistic outlook for the sector going forward. Investors must be patient as we are still in the "early innings" of biotech treatment Marc says. However, he adds that the demand for this sector will explode relatively soon. Together, we then break down the trends and stocks that are going to have the highest impact on the sector. These trends include big data and DNA sequencing. Also, before Marc signs off, he shares with us his favorite growth & income stock outside of the biotech sector. Then, for today's Educational Segment [39:31], I break down my visit to the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference - the largest junior mining conference in the world. The host and close friend, Marin Katusa, invited me to speak at the event. This is where it gets interesting… Out of the 5,000 people at this conference, not one person seemed to be bearish on the resource sector. What does that mean? ...It means I'm nervous. Let's not forget... Only 1 in 3,000 projects go from early stage development to actual production. To make matters worse, some of these stocks are already up 100%-300% from their lows yet people are still doubling their positions! But it's not all bad news. Although about 90% of these companies are terrible long-term investments, a few CEO's I met with were far from bluffing. Tune in as I introduce listeners to the few stocks that caught my attention. One is a stock that could potentially be the next Northern Dynasty!

How do you manage a hosting and software development company that has staff in three different countries and two different time zones, all while you’re in a different country yourself? I speak with Marc Gadsdon of In-Tuition, a data and email hosting provider and software development company. InTuition are a business with several purpose designed locations in the UK and staff distributed across the world. In our conversation, Marc and I discuss:- * Zimbra – one of the best kept secrets in solutions for IT Solution Providers and Managed Service Providers (MSP’s). * Zimbra’s powerful integrating abilities, ease of use for file sharing, communicating and keeping your diary up to date. * What Zimbra can offer over Exchange and Office365 and what it can offer in terms of building value for your business. * Why Zimbra is very reliable at protecting and recovering your data. * WordPress Premium Hosting and how the right host can shave time off your website loading time. * The challenges of managing a remote team in Manchester, London and Canada when you’re based in Andorra. * Travel caching, Tim Ferriss style life-hacks and becoming better at planning when on the road. * Why great communication is key when you work remotely from your business. EasyPress is now known as Pendeo Press. Note: If you sign up for a site at www.getpendeo.com and drop an email to the Pendeo support team and let them know I sent you – they tell me they will make sure you get extra special treatment thay may involve some free hosting…). Transcription Richard:               Hi everyone, Richard Tubb here and I’m joined today by Marc Gadsdon. How are you doing, Marc? Marc:                   Very good, thanks, Richard. Nice to be here, thank you very much. Richard:               So, you are the owner of InTuition, a London-based hosting company. Tell me a little bit more about InTuition. Marc:                   Yeah, so I’m one of the directors of InTuition Networks. We’re a long-time provider of email, both email security and email collaboration. Zimbra is our key product, our services are based on Zimbra.  We chose Zimbra in 2006. We were looking around for an alternative to our POP3 infrastructure that we had quite a few POP3 mailboxes and we didn't want to go down the Exchange route because last time, Microsoft Exchange was a difficult product to manage at scale. And we found Zimbra, it's a new solution built by a bunch of really clever engineers in Silicon Valley.  And pretty quickly grew quite fast.  We became one of the early partners in 2006. And we started hosting it, build a platform in our London data center. And Zimbra was sold to Yahoo!, Yahoo! took it off the scale in terms of numbers of users and it powered the Yahoo! Mail service for quite a while, quite a long time. And then it was bought by VMware, VMware took it into the corporate space. All the time, we're still partners of each identity. And over the years, we've now become one of the go-to partners in the UK and Europe for Zimbra when they've got somebody that wants to do something with Zimbra on a hosting basis. So, we tend to get involved with a lot of projects that white label and the people that want to host a solution. So we've got customers from small IT companies that we've been here talking to today, and we've got really large sort of more servers provider type of people who don't want the cost of and hassle of running their own infrastructure, so we do that on a white label basis for them. So that's really what we're doing in a nutshell. Richard:               So, I’m fascinated by Zimbra. So you gave me a demonstration of the product and blown away by just how simple it is and let alone, low administrative overheads to it. I guess Office 365 is the bigger gorilla in the market. Marc:                   It sure is, yeah. Richard:               Hosted Exchange before that. Lots of IT companies,...
