Cartel Corruption of Federal Agents, FBI, DEA, at the Border and More. The U.S.- Mexico border has long been a battleground in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. Yet, a lesser-known and equally troubling battle involves the corruption of federal agents — from corrections officers and border patrol to FBI and DEA agents. This episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio show and Podcast explores how cartels corrupt federal agents, the investigations that unveil these betrayals, and the outcomes. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and most all social media platforms. Cartel corruption of Federal Agents often begins with small, seemingly harmless actions by federal agents. For instance, a border patrol officer might turn a blind eye to suspicious activity in exchange for a quick payoff or accept a small bribe for allowing contraband through. These seemingly minor transgressions can escalate, gradually entangling the agents in a web of cartel operations. Once compromised, agents find themselves increasingly beholden to criminal groups, leading to more significant acts of corruption. Listen to this interview as a free podcast on our website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. The journey from minor misconduct to severe criminal involvement is often marked by a series of careless, even mindless, decisions. According to Ken Strange, a retired federal agent with the FBI, USAID, and the Department of Justice (DOJ), "many major corruption investigations are triggered by stupid, mindless incidents by the officers involved." Strange's insights are informed by years of experience investigating cartel corruption among federal agents. His new book, A Cop's Son: One G-Man's Fight Against Jihad, Global Fraud, and the Cartels, sheds light on the multi-faceted corruption efforts by cartels targeting FBI and DEA agents. Ken Strange's career spanned three federal agencies — the FBI, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the DOJ — and involved conflicts with jihadists, cartels, and international fraudsters. In his book, he breaks down his federal career into three parts: the fight against jihad (FBI), the fight against global fraud (USAID OIG), and the fight against the cartels (DOJ OIG). The book has received praise from notable figures in law enforcement, including former NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and former LAPD Chief William Bratton. Cartel Corruption of Federal Agents, FBI, DEA, at the Border and More.  Strange's book is more than just a recounting of his experiences; it is a unique exploration of the variety of investigative stories accrued across three distinguished U.S. government agencies. His friend, a prominent Hollywood actor, has even suggested that the book's final chapter would make for a great movie. The FBI has intensified its focus on corruption at the Southwest border. Out of the 700 agents dedicated to combating public corruption, about 120 are assigned to this region. These agents coordinate their investigative efforts with the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General (DHS OIG), Customs and Border Protection Internal Affairs (CBP-IA), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The results of these efforts are significant: over 400 public corruption cases have originated from this region, leading to more than 100 arrests and over 130 state and federal cases prosecuted in FY 2009 alone. To further these efforts, the FBI has established 12 border corruption task forces along the Southwest border, which share intelligence with groups such as the Southwest Intelligence Group (SWIG), the El Paso Intelligence Center (EPIC), and Mexican legal attachés to identify and disrupt Mexican drug trafficking organizations (DTOs). Cartel Corruption of Federal Agents, FBI, DEA, at the Border and More. The interview is available as a free podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, our website or most major podcast platforms. International cooperation is crucial in the fight against cartel corruption. The FBI, for example, has strengthened its ties with Mexican law enforcement. Recently, the FBI's McAllen office hosted 30 Mexican police officers for a week of training and information sharing through the Mexican American Liaison and Law Enforcement Training (MALLET) program. This week-long initiative included modules on ethics, firearms, and investigative techniques aimed at building law enforcement contacts with the Mexican government. During a Senate hearing, Senator Mark Pryor expressed concerns about cartels infiltrating U.S. law enforcement, stating, "U.S. border defenses have been beefed up, which has helped to squeeze these drug routes. However, to gain an advantage, the cartels have begun to infiltrate U.S. law enforcement." This infiltration is not limited to federal agents; state and local governments are also targets. A recent news report highlighted a 40% increase in corruption arrests within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and dozens of investigations are currently underway. While other federal agencies, like the DEA, FBI, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA), are also targeted, CBP appears most vulnerable due to its frontline role and rapid expansion in recent years. The doubling of its size over the past decade has introduced many new faces, some of whom may not be fully vetted. Cartel Corruption of Federal Agents, FBI, DEA, at the Border and More. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, MeWe, Pinterest and other social media platforms for the latest episodes and news. There is a growing concern that CBP is not employing all available tools to screen job applicants effectively. The agency aims to polygraph all applicants, but currently, only about 10% are tested. This lack of thorough screening raises concerns not just about drugs, but also about guns, money, and even the potential for terrorists entering the U.S. if border defenses are weakened. A report from U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley's office has called for a reassessment of U.S. security cooperation with Mexico. Tracing allegations of corruption back to the 1980s, the report accuses U.S. officials of overlooking Mexican corruption to secure cooperation in drug seizures and arrests. This leniency has come at a cost, placing U.S. agents at risk and undermining the long-term fight against cartels. "For the past 40 years, U.S. officials have overlooked widespread corruption in Mexico in favor of cooperating with and funneling resources to foreign actors," the report states. It urges Congress to reevaluate Washington's security cooperation policies in the Western Hemisphere. The DEA continues to pursue evidence globally, including investigations and prosecutions related to public corruption. Cartel Corruption of Federal Agents, FBI, DEA, at the Border and More. Listen to the interview which is available as a podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, our website and most major podcast Platforms. The corruption of federal agents by cartels at the U.S.-Mexico border remains a pressing issue that requires a multi-faceted approach, involving stricter vetting processes, stronger international cooperation, and a commitment to transparency.  The battle against corruption is ongoing, and understanding its complexities is the first step toward winning it. In this episode, Part 1, Shaun will focus on a prophesy released by Jeremiah Johnson and discuss the importance of weighing a prophetic word. Shaun is one of my Business partners as well as a Podcast producer, Chief Media Officer, Graphic Designer, and an author. But the most important thing you need to know is Shaun passionately loves God and country.   To start us off I explain myself and make my case for voting for Trump.   There may not be a more polarizing man in the last decade than Donald J Trump. And while it seems strange that we are talking about President Trump in the 2nd year of the Biden presidency, the reason we are having this discussion is two-fold: 1) Trump remains in the headlines as it appears he is staying politically active and may run for President again and 2) The far left continues to run on a platform of “we are not Trump” and if you are against Biden, then you are “for” Trump. Therefore, if this demagoguery is going to remain front and center for Democrats, Progressives, and Liberals, then it seems prudent to explain why and I suspect millions of others voted for Trump.   It used to be that I truly would measure the candidate on an individual basis. I did this years ago while living in Arkansas and a friend whom I trusted said I should vote for Senator Mark Pryor, a democrat because he was a good man. I did so, but it didn't take long to regret that. Voting for the “good man” didn't change the fact that he represented a party that touted a platform that support gay rights, touted abortion as women's healthcare, believed the federal government was the solution to all problems, and that conservatives were the enemy. I found out it really didn't matter if he was a good man; for the most part, politicians vote w/ their party and therefore their platform becomes paramount. There are very view Joe Manchins and Kristin Sinemas of the world, those who would buck their party, and I suspect in those cases, it may be less about principal and more about the fact they are blue-dog democrats who are embedded in deeply red states.   So back to Trump. Voting for Trump actually was quite easy because of his opponent, Hillary Clinton. It's unlikely that you will find a more corrupt family than the Clintons. Death, destruction, thievery, money laundering, and felonies follow them everywhere, some if infamous internet folklore; some is very real. How could I vote for her? I ask that because on a personal level, the decision was easy, but even if I loved Hillary Clinton, I would never vote for her. Why? Because you are never voting for and electing a candidate, you are voting for and electing a platform, ideas, principles, and philosophies. I know many will disagree with me here and I hate the mantra “you are a trump lover” because you voted for Trump.   Personally, let me tell you what I think about Trump. He's bombastic, arrogant, thin-skinned, childish at times, not often well-spoken, might be corrupt, and for goodness sakes, addicted to Twitter which likely means he cares way too much what others are saying about him. He appears to always be looking for a fight. None of these characteristics and noble in my opinion. However, despite all of this, he does have some good qualities. Like few Presidents I've seen, he gets things done; he is a doer thru and thru. The art of the deal as he likes to say.   However, none of that matters…his few good qualities and a plethora of flaws. Why? Because I didn't elect Donald Trump, I elected a platform, I elected ideas, principles, and philosophies. Honestly, I'm not sure he even shares the same principles as the Republican party, but when he ran on them, the followed them both on the campaign trail and after in office. The platform is a platform of limited government (he didn't do this very well), reducing regulation, but more importantly he supported the freedom to worship even if it was counter culture to the radical agendas of the culture movement and supported limiting abortion which would save lives. The Republicans are equally as flawed as democrats, when you define mankind as a bunch of sinners needing a savior, but when you look at the philosophies and the principles of each party, really the biblical choice is clear. I never voted for Trump, I voted for the platform he espoused, regardless of the individual character flaws.   Shaun, that was a mouthful, but in a nutshell that's why I voted for him twice.   Others will say I've gone totally off the rails and that I'm dead wrong. What about you? Why did you vote for Trump?   Preferred CRUZ – Announcement speech – ½ through, I was ready to support Field of candidates to about 16, I liked ½, other half needed to go home. LIKES: Carson, Christie, Cruz, Fiorina, Huckabee, Paul, Rubio, Trump Then I heard and read the following prophesy, published in Charisma Magazine.   JEREMIAH JOHNSON Aug 10, 2015   “Trump shall become My trumpet to the American people, for he possesses qualities that are even hard to find in My people these days. Trump does not fear man nor will he allow deception and lies to go unnoticed. I am going to use him to expose darkness and perversion in America like never before, but you must understand that he is like a bull in a china closet. Many will want to throw him away because he will disturb their sense of peace and tranquility, but you must listen through the bantering to discover the truth that I will speak through him. I will use the wealth that I have given him to expose and launch investigations searching for the truth. Just as I raised up Cyrus to fulfill My purposes and plans, so have I raised up Trump to fulfill my purposes and plans prior to the 2016 election. You must listen to the trumpet very closely for he will sound the alarm and many will be blessed because of his compassion and mercy. Though many see the outward pride and arrogance, I have given him the tender heart of a father that wants to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy, to the foreigner and the stranger.   Line by line It is important to understand that I had never heard of Jeremiah Johnson before I heard this prophecy. I didn't know him from a hole in the wall. According to New Testament scripture it is important for believers to weigh prophetic words. I weighed these words, and I will tell you that right off the bat my spirit bore witness that this was a word of the Lord. It stopped me in my tracks and is the reason that I switched from supporting Ted Cruz, to supporting Trump for as long as he remained in the race. “Trump shall become My trumpet to the American people, for he possesses qualities that are even hard to find in My people these days. Twitter – Social platform symbolically and functionally like a trumpet Qualities – what an indictment on believers today   Trump does not fear man nor will he allow deception and lies to go unnoticed. I am going to use him to expose darkness and perversion in America like never before, but you must understand that he is like a bull in a china closet. Made in China DC structures in league with China – China is an ally Corrupt structures are fragile in the presence of righteous activity   Many will want to throw him away because he will disturb their sense of peace and tranquility, but you must listen through the bantering to discover the truth that I will speak through him. Two movements formed within the Republican party Dump Trump Never Trump   I will use the wealth that I have given him to expose and launch investigations searching for the truth. Just as I raised up Cyrus to fulfill My purposes and plans, so have I raised up Trump to fulfill my purposes and plans prior to the 2016 election. 45th President – Lance Wallnau Cyrus used by God to restore Jerusalem and it's walls of protection though Cyrus didn't know God – God called Cyrus His servant Build a wall – Trump is a builder of large projects   You must listen to the trumpet very closely for he will sound the alarm and many will be blessed because of his compassion and mercy. Those who listened to the MSM missed the truth at EVERY turn Those who listened and headed his warning have been blessed   Though many see the outward pride and arrogance, I have given him the tender heart of a father that wants to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy, to the foreigner and the stranger. Tomahawk missiles into Syria before the chocolate cake)   MARK TAYLOR April 28, 2011 While listening to a television interview with American businessman Donald Trump, he heard God say, "you're hearing the voice of a president," and that a stronger relationship between the United States and Israel will occur in the future.   LANCE WALLNAU “I heard the Lord say: ‘Donald Trump is a wrecking ball to the spirit of political correctness,'” Wallnau wrote in an Oct. 5 Charisma News article titled “Why I Believe Donald Trump Is the Prophesied President.” (Posted in Charisma Magazine) I was updating some random social-media activity when I ran across a simple PowerPoint showing Trump seated in the Oval Office with the words "Donald Trump, 45th President of the United States." The image made a peculiar impression on my mind. I was dazed. Literally no one was thinking this would be a possibility, but I was sensing this was more than some random Facebook meme. It was a prophetic picture. It struck me the same way the "wrecking ball" word did. I heard the Spirit impress upon my mind, "Read Isaiah 45." To be honest, I didn't recall what the chapter was about. I opened a Bible and began to read, "Thus saith the Lord to Cyrus whom I've anointed." Cyrus? I thought. Who is he in relation to all this? I recalled that he was a heathen king who was indispensable to the protection of the Jews, but I was, frankly, confused as to what God was saying. With 16 candidates running, many of whom are evangelicals, why would God talk about Cyrus? I quickly looked up the number of the next president. I confirmed that Barack Obama is number 44. The next president will indeed be number 45. I kept reading Isaiah 45. Nearly 150 years before Cyrus' birth, God declared through the prophet Isaiah that a foreign man, a non-Jew named Cyrus, would be the anointed shepherd of his people and rebuild Jerusalem, beginning in the first phase with the house of the Lord. Regarding Cyrus, Isaiah the prophet spoke as follows: "Thus says the Lord to Cyrus, His anointed, whose right hand I have held—to subdue nations before him and to loosen the loins of kings, to open doors before him so that the gates will not be shut: I will go before you and make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and shatter the bars of iron" (Is. 45:1-2). Cyrus wasn't a Jew and he wasn't from the line of David, but God elevated this foreigner and called him "My anointed." When Isaiah described Cyrus as the Lord's "anointed," the word in Hebrew denotes a person specifically chosen and set apart for a specific task. It never occurred to me God anoints secular leaders who are not part of the faith community. Then again, how else would you describe Cyrus, Churchill, Lincoln or even Reagan? God promised to intervene and help Cyrus "break open" and even conquer. The commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem starts with Cyrus' decree recorded in Ezra 1:1-4 to rebuild the house of the Lord. It was this "Cyrus decree" that worked its way through King Darius and King Artaxerxes until Nehemiah commenced his task to rebuild the wall surrounding Jerusalem.   One other prophetic word I heard / read, not covered in the Podcast: KIM CLEMENT Scottsdale, Arizona, Feb. 10, 2007 "There will be a praying president, not a religious one. 'For I will fool the people,' says the Lord. 'I will fool the people. Yes, I will.' "God says, 'The one that is chosen shall go in, and they shall say, "He has hot blood. For the Spirit of God says, 'Yes, he may have hot blood, but he will bring the walls of protection on this country in a greater way and the economy of this country shall change rapidly,' says the Lord of Hosts. "Listen to the Word of the Lord. God says, 'I will put at your helm for two terms a president who will pray, but he will not be a praying president when he starts.'" Redding, California, on April 4, 2007 Clement says, "I will raise up the Trump to be a trumpet and Bill Gates to open up the gate of a financial realm for the church, says the Lord. ... It shall come to pass that the man that I place in the highest office shall go in whispering My name. But God said, 'When he enters into the office, he will be shouting out by the power of the Spirit, for I shall fill him with My Spirit when he goes into office, and there will be a praying man in the highest seat in the land.'" Clement passed away in late November 2016, only weeks after Trump was elected president. As weighty as his words were, he's not the only one who prophesied Trump's win

Jenny:  Hello there Mark, and welcome to the show.  It's great to have you with us. Mark:  Nice to be on.  Thank you so much for having me. Mark Pryor - Mystery author Jenny:  Beginning at the beginning as I always like to do - was there a “Once Upon A Time” moment when you decided you wanted to write fiction, and if so, was there some sort of catalyst for it? Mark:  Yes actually.  It was when I was in primary school in England.   I remember that my teacher, Mrs Garwood, had two notebooks she had us write in.  One was for things that actually happened to us, news, and the other was for stories, fictional stories, things we just invented.  And at the beginning of one term, after the summer holidays, she asked us to write in the 'News' book about some stuff we had done and so I did. I wrote about a haystack I'd played on on the family farm with my best friend and about how we'd been attacked by alligators and we'd had to fight them off with sticks, and I wrote all this in my 'News' book, not my fiction book.   And you know what she said?  She said absolutely nothing about it and she gave me a gold star, so I always think of that as a great moment of encouragement for me and I look back at that and I remember.  That would be a kick-off point for me, I think. Jenny:  Did you realise at that point that you were writing fiction in a news book?  Did you actually know the difference? Mark:  I think probably what happened was I started to write something true, because we did play on the haystack, but then realised that that was kind of boring and a couple of alligators would make this a lot more interesting. Jenny:  That's lovely.  I can see that on your website sometime.  A couple of alligators would make this more interesting!  They could turn up in the Seine! So why did you choose the mystery genre? And why contemporary Paris as your setting? The magical Seine - but some weird things have turned up in its waters Mark:  I think mysteries because those are the books that I always read.  I grew up on Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes.  Before that the Hardy Boys, the Three Investigators.  I just was always drawn to reading mysteries and so it was a natural thing for me, when I decided to write, to write a mystery novel.  As for why Paris, I do get asked that question and I usually answer it by saying I have a friend who sets his novels in a run-down town in rural New York and another friend who sets her books in East Texas and guess who has the most fun doing research!  I have been to Paris probably knocking on twenty times and I try to go every single year to do research for the fresh book and I love the city, I love everything about it, and setting a novel there, or a series, makes perfect sense to me, because it means I have to go every year. Jenny:  Yes, and I think there definitely is quite a big genre which is actually French mysteries now, or mysteries based in France but written in English. Mark:  Yes,

This is Capitalism: CEO Stories

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 17, 2018 17:06

Ray Hoffman introduces Darrin Williams. Darrin Williams practices capitalism in places where capitalism is sorely needed — some of the poorest towns and neighborhoods of Arkansas and Mississippi, particularly in the Mississippi Delta. Darrin Williams left a promising career in law and politics to be the CEO of Little Rock-based Southern Bancorp, a bank on a mission, a mission to create economic opportunity. To learn about Darrin Williams, it may be best to go back about three decades.     Key Takeaways: [:51] Darrin Williams was student body president at Little Rock Central High School. Governor Bill Clinton named him to a school advisory board. In high school, Darrin never had the intention to become CEO of a bank. His sights were on the law, and initially, he practiced law with an interest in politics. [1:42] At the age of two weeks, Darrin was adopted. His father was 55 and his mother was in her late 40s, so they were much older than his friends’ parents when he was growing up. A lawyer handled the adoption and continued to serve as the family’s lawyer through Darrin’s teens. He was a role model for Darrin. [2:11] In 2014, Darrin was President Pro Tempore of the Arkansas House of Representatives. He still had no interest in joining a bank. He had been a securities litigation attorney on the plaintiff’s side, suing banks in class action litigation. [3:10] Now that he is in the CEO position, it has been a wonderful opportunity. Southern Bancorp is a community development financial institution. Their focus is really on serving underserved communities. They lift communities and individuals to build their net worth. [4:06] Darrin is very focused on service. It is what drew him to law to start with, and now to a financial institution. He credits his minister father and schoolteacher mother with guiding his direction in a life of helping others. [5:20] Darrin believes he hit the parent lottery. He learned proper manners in a traditional upbringing. [6:03] As a young attorney, Darrin became chief of staff for Mark Pryor, the Arkansas State Attorney General elected in 1998. Darrin led a group of dedicated public servants who really cared about their clients. He witnessed practicing law from a client-focused perspective. [6:39] Darrin sees his time on the Attorney General’s staff as being significant preparation for becoming a CEO. [7:17] In 2012, Darrin learned about Southern Bancorp, Inc. when they approached him to discuss becoming CEO. He turned them down at the time in favor of continuing to practice law. However, he wanted to help and he joined the holding company board of directors. [7:58] As a board member, Darrin helped initiate the search for CEO. He did not know that six months later he would become the CEO. [8:20] Through his church, Darrin led a financial principles class, where he worked to help people understand how to be good stewards of their money. This experience also led him to see that so many people struggle financially unnecessarily because they don’t have the skills and resources, and were never taught how to use money well. [9:01] Darrin observed people were having significant improvements in their financial lives from taking the class, and Darrin thought he would like to teach about money full-time. When the CEO job was offered to him and Darrin turned it down, his wife reminded him of what he had said he wanted. He decided to take the CEO position. [9:36] Darrin talks about how a community development financial institution operates. By law, they have to commit to doing 60% of their activity in low-to-moderate income census tracts. Southern Bancorp primarily focuses on rural communities in the mid-south or poor urban areas, where other banks choose not to go. [11:16] In 16 of their markets, Southern Bancorp is either the only one or one of only two financial institutions offering access to capital in the community. [11:36] Studies show that the further away a business moves from capital and credit, the more they pay for capital and credit. [11:57] Darrin explains how Southern Bancorp's being one of two financial institutions leads to success for client businesses. He gives an example of their work in one community, and the programs they run and sponsor, even bringing a charter school to augment a failing school system. [13:39] In spite of the mass consolidation of banks, Southern Bancorp is in growth mode. They note where they are needed and they grow there. At every Southern Bancorp location, they have opportunity centers to meet the customers where they are. They have very skilled credit counselors. This is a free service, even to non-customers. [15:02] For the last 13 years, Southern Bancorp has provided free tax preparation services for thousands of customers. They make sure low-income people who qualify for the earned income tax credit know about it and apply for it. [15:53] Now you understand about Southern Bancorp being a bank on a mission? This is capitalism.     Mentioned in This Episode: Southern Bancorp Mark Pryor Stephens.com This Is Capitalism

Suspense Radio is back with another action packed show. 90 minutes and three author interviews await you.  First up we have James Ziskin, then we have Allen Eskens, finished up with Mark Pryor.  James Ziskin: Stone Cold Dead December 21, 1960, the shortest day of the year: Fifteen-year-old Darleen Hicks slips away from her school bus as it idles in the junior-high parking lot, waiting to depart. Moments later the bus rumbles away without her, and she is never seen again. Allen Eskens: The Life we Bury College student Joe Talbert has the modest goal of completing a writing assignment for an English class. His task is to interview a stranger and write a brief biography of the person. With deadlines looming, Joe heads to a nearby nursing home to find a willing subject. There he meets Carl Iverson, and soon nothing in Joe's life is ever the same. Mark Pryor: Hollow Man Dominic is a prosecutor, a musician, and an Englishman living in Texas. He's also a psychopath. His main goal is to hide his condition and lead a seemingly normal life in hopes to pay off his debts and become a full-time musician in Austin's  club scene. But on one lousy day his carefully-controlled world starts to shatter: he's demoted at work and accused of stealing a fellow musician's song.  He also meets a beautiful woman in a lime green dress--perhaps the biggest threat to his safety of all. At her urging, Dominic hatches a plan to steal a van he knows will be filled with cash. He picks two friends as accomplices, insisting on no guns and no violence. But a security guard catches them in the act and simple theft turns into capital murder.

Agri-Pulse Open Mic Interview

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor would like to see bipartisan solutions to some of our nations most troubling budget issues, but in this week's Open Mic, he paints a fairly bleak picture. The Arkansan chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and talks about some of his priorities and his concerns about cutting direct payments to address the looming March 1 sequester. A long-time advocate for rice farmers in his state, Pryor tells why he voted against the Senate farm bill last year and how he views the Obama administration's proposals on gun control.Senator Mark Pryor
