Many younger people start lifting weights in their teens and 20s for aesthetic benefits or to support their performance in a sport. But the fact is that weight training is a superior way to keep your body functioning properly throughout your lifetime. This is especially true for women because of the fact that we go through the menopause transition. When we go through menopause (ie. through perimenopause and into post-menopause), the level of estrogen in our bodies declines and all but disappears. Estrogen has played an important role in keeping our bodies working properly. Without it, our bodies start to decline.Fortunately, we can do something about it - we can work to keep our bodies functioning: lifting weights can make up for some of the gaps left by the loss of estrogen. In this episode, I talk about the anti-aging effects of lifting weights. After hearing the facts, you'll hopefully agree that weight training is the best thing you can do to fitness-wise to maintain your quality of life in your 40s, 50s, and beyond. I discuss:The role of estrogen in keeping our bodies in good working orderWhat happens when estrogen declines in perimenopause and post-menopauseHow weight training can turn back the hands of time - it's anti-aging effects.Enjoy the show!Follow me on Instagram: befitafter40_withlynn/Support the show:If you'd like to support the show, you can Buy Me A Coffee ☕Link to my free content >> For weekly tips and information subscribe to my newsletter>>My favorite stuff: Looking for dumbbells or a walkpad? She does this by simplifying their business with The Simplicity Solution, and having the rock-solid belief they can do it.Sarah has been running her own business for over 30 years. But the first 20 of those were hard work with a 1:1 model of hourly sessions which led to burnout. She changed her business model and created a wildly successful online coaching business but the happy-ever-after didn't eventuate. The pandemic, getting sick, menopause and all the things piled high and she became detached from her business and her life.Sarah needed to get to work on herself, let go of 90% of what the 'gurus' had taught her and believe in herself enough to create her own path. She finally let go of being a good girl and allowed her inner maverick to have fun. The result was Radical Simplicity which is her brand and upcoming book.Sarah runs a multiple 6 figure business from home doing the work she loves in a few hours a day. Originally from Australia, she lives in beautiful West Cork in Ireland with her husband, 4 nearly grown-up kids, guide-dog breeder Indi & 2 badly behaved cats.Ebonie: Sarah, What is Sacrosanct to you?Sarah: 'Spaciousness in everything. Especially my schedule.'Ebonie: 'What do you see as the most important or valuable shift or change you've made for yourself in your adult life?.'Sarah: I finally listened to my body, put aside my ego, stop chasing fame, and finally get how precious my body and mind are. As a woman in her 40s (or older), do you want to learn how to exercise in a way that moves you forward but also honours your body through day-to-day fluctuations?Olivia Park is a women's health and performance coach who helps active women lift hard and live well both in and out of the gym. She helps women find liberation from the ‘shoulds' in fitness and the all-or-nothing mindset through purpose-driven training. And she's a deadset legend. In this episode, Olivia shares about her own hormonal battles. And she answers questions like...How has the toxicity of the fitness industry and diet culture damaged women's relationships with food and exercise? How can exercise be designed from a health-first approachWhat is LEA (low energy availability), and what are the long-term impacts on women, specifically women over 40.Topics discussed include:Exercise during perimenopause and menopauseHow to know if your exercise is working for you, not against youCreating positive change and shifting the direction of the fitness industryExercise with a health-first approachThe fitness industry is doing a disservice when the messages are ‘train harder, eat less'. So many women are doing their absolute best to follow this prescription because there's not enough evidence to prove that there could be a different way. We're bombarded with sexy sounding F45 shreds and challenges and 1200 calorie diets that are going to make our lives better and finally, we will have the confidence and feel the worthiness we're promised.Nope. A hormonal and health shit show? Most likely, yes.AND You need enough food to meet the demands not only of your exercise but of living. You need nutrition to support your training, your lifestyle, the stress of being a mum, an employee, an entrepreneur, a solo parent, a caregiver, a partner, a friend … all those stressors on top of training add up.The more you buy into eating less, and exercising more, the more you are taking yourself away from what you actually desire.LINKSOlivia Park Coaching - websiteOlivia Park Coaching - InstagramFemale Health & Performance CertificationPachinko - NetflixDear Menopause Episodes related to this topicNutritional Changes through perimenopause and beyondFitness, Wellness Wankery and the future of menopause careInformation on personal training with SonyaThank you for listening to my show!
