The contributors to Feminism Against Cisness (Duke UP, 2024) showcase the future of feminist historical, theoretical, and political thought freed from the conceptual strictures of cisness: the fallacy that assigned sex determines sexed experience. The essays demonstrate that this fallacy hinges on the enforcement of white and bourgeois standards of gender comportment that naturalize brutalizing race and class hierarchies. It is, therefore, no accident that the social processes making cisness compulsory are also implicated in anti-Blackness, misogyny, Indigenous erasure, xenophobia, and bourgeois antipathy for working-class life. Working from trans historical archives and materialist trans feminist theories, this volume demonstrates the violent work that cis ideology has done and thinks toward a future for feminism beyond this ideology's counterrevolutionary pull. Authentic Change

“In DEI, we tend to categorize people and look at constructs that put us into boxes as a way to try to understand what is going on. And it is far more complicated than that,” explains Sophia Kristjansson, founder of Lexicon Lens, published author, and faculty member at the University of Denver's University College. She prides herself in guiding organizations and their leaders to achieve change through building cultures of inclusion and belonging Today, Sophia talks about the organizational changes that leaders can make to prioritize inclusion for all of their people, not just some.  As a leader, you are responsible for setting the tone for what behaviors are appropriate within your organization. It is up to the leaders to create a work environment that feels psychologically safe for all of their employees to show up as their authentic selves and which fosters a sense of belonging. If employees are behaving appropriately only when the leader is in the room and then engaging in bullying or microaggressions the second their boss leaves, DEI efforts will ultimately fail. Leaders must pay close attention to their team's dynamics, staying aware of how employees behave when the boss is not looking and addressing any instances of discrimination right away.  Often traditional DEI programs make the mistake of overgeneralizing and dividing everyone into neat boxes for the sake of simplicity. However, people are more complicated than that and true inclusivity has to consider everyone's unique perspectives and backgrounds. When leaders take the time to create a safe environment for all of their employees regardless of whatever box they might fit into, then real organizational change can occur.  Quotes: “Organizational leaders have a responsibility to create a psychologically safe place for their employees, all of their employees, to show their own uniqueness, and to feel a sense of belonging, thus, creating the feeling of inclusion among their peers, colleagues, their tribe, so to speak at work.” (9:26-9:54 | Sophia) “Change takes time. We can't do everything right away. It's a marathon, it is not a sprint, and it's going to take multiple years to achieve the goals that we're looking for.” (10:52-11:02 | Sophia) “Leadership has that ultimate responsibility to set the tone for what behavior is accepted and not accepted.” (13:49-13:59 | Sophia)  “Brown and Black people, women, women of color, etc, leave organizations more quickly than white males. And I believe that is because the cultural environment is not sustainable for these individuals.” (16:33-16:51 | Sophia) “I believe that everybody must be included, including white males.” (19:18-19:24 | Sophia) “In DEI, we tend to categorize people and look at constructs that put us into boxes as a way to try to understand what is going on. And it is far more complicated than that.” (20:38-20:55 | Sophia) Links: Mentioned in this episode: Learn more about Mike Horne on Linkedin Email Mike at mike@mike-horne.com Learn More About Executive and Organization Development with Mike Horne   Learn more about Sophia Kristjansson Website: lexiconlens.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/sophiakristjansson       Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

This month is World Menopause Month - now we all know menopause is 365 days a year for several years so one month is mere lip service. However, we will take what awareness raising we can get and use this time to make sure that we all are aware of what we can do for ourselves to make the most of menopause and indeed, as my guest encourages us to do - thrive in menopause! In this episode I am talking to Clarissa Kristjansson about how we all deal with peri-menopause and menopause. This is either something that you are going to go through, are going through, have been through or have partners, relatives and friends who are! It affects us all. And often at a time when society is deeming us invisible, when we have maybe reached a peak in our career, or when we have children still at home or flown the nest and potentially ageing parents to look after as well. Its an extremely full on time in a woman's life and then BOOM! menopause lands and we have a tonne of physical symptoms to deal with. So we need to be really kind with ourselves, really understand what is going on for us and I hope that our conversation will open your mind to some different perspectives on this phase in our lives. You can find Clarissa in Instagram @thrivingthrumenopause and on her podcast of the same name. Clarissa Kristjansson is an internationally recognized menopause educator. She is widely regarded as the go-to source for the holistic health aspects of menopause. This episode opens with an overview of peri- and post- menopause, and the issues associated with each stage.  Some issues can be debilitating and need clinician advice.  AND they are facts of life, not imaginings... and should NOT be ignored or minimized by anyone. Clarissa gives us updated information on Hormone Therapy, explaining the different hormones and how they affect women.  AND discusses brain fog - is it menopausal? covid-related? early signs of brain changes? Her holistic approaches include mindfulness, meditation, mindful eating, exercise, rest, and self-compassion - while they might not eliminate any issues, they help women understand their bodies and be gentler with themselves. In this episode, I'm joined by Clarissa Kristjansson, a menopause health coach and mindfulness practitioner.  Menopause & Work Clarissa worked in corporate roles for three decades and when she went through menopause her mental health suffered.  A self-described high functioning anxiety sufferer, she had managed her job. Until menopause hit.  Clarissa explained when she started to go through menopause she wasn't sleeping well, her anxiety was worse, and she no longer coped with things like she used to.  Her tipping point came early in a new role where she realized it was not the job for her.  Mindfulness & Menopause Clarissa has found mindfulness has helped her navigate the highs and lows of menopause. Women/ people can be in menopause for years, Clarissa pointed out learning to be in the moment can help accept this.  A different outlook on menopause Menopause has been a taboo topic, many have no idea what to expect when they start experiencing changes.  Clarissa says she likes to reframe the way menopause is viewed. For some people who may have been parents, they can view it as their time. Or as motivation to take a chance and change things.  Don't miss the full conversation!  Clarissa's Link https://clarissakristjansson.com/ About The Adulting With ADHD Podcast It's not just you – we aren't talking enough about ADHD and hormones. There are so many things I wish I had known about hormones and ADHD earlier. They play such a fundamental role in the human body, deeply impacting a person's life at all of their life stages. As a former journalist and current ADHD'er, I unpack this topic through patient stories, expert interviews, and personal narrative. With new episodes biweekly on Wednesdays, The Adulting With ADHD Podcast covers a variety of ADHD hormone topics including puberty, menopause, perimenopause, PMS, PMDD, and more. Why aren't we talking about this more? What do you do if you find yourself struggling with ADHD and hormones? We discuss this and much more. Need basic info about ADHD and hormones? Get the free quick guide at  - Adulting With ADHD . Show highlights 2:56 I probably now realize many years down the road that I was an anxiety sufferer, but I was very good at hiding it.  4:32 But by that stage, I thought I was going to be stuck here in cities, something terrible was going to happen. And then I had a panic attack at work, and that really was the tipping point.  12:00 It all sounds so bad if we only think about the symptoms, but the good side is that we get up, the changes are to reframe.

Today I welcome Clarissa Kristjansson to my show. Clarissa is a expert on menopause and helps me to understand this phenomenon better. As Clarissa puts it: "Midlife women are drinking more than ever to cope with the demands of their overbusy lives and ‘wine time’ is the new way for women to socialise. But even ‘moderate’ drinking can affect the frequency and severity of menopause symptoms. So can you drink during your menopause? The art of drinking moderately is fraught for women in perimenopause. It’s a time when many of us feel the need for the blunting effect of a wine. We’re worrying about aging parents and near-adult children. We’re at the peak of our careers. We finally have the freedom men have always had to check out at night. But alcohol dials up menopause symptoms and how do you cut back without losing all your friends when ‘wine time’ is how you socialise." Clarissa's own journey from corporate leader to helping others began when she suffered a burnout during her menopause and had to reassess how she was living her life. Today Clarissa is a Menopause Transition Specialist whose approach is founded on neuroscience, mindfulness, and women's health coaching to help women transform the peri to post menopause journey. Produsent: Litteraturhuset FredrikstadRedigering: Litteraturhuset FredrikstadJingle: Christoffer Schou See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
