You've blamed it on the eggnog but that doesn't help your headache - it's Box Day and a little recovery is required - lay down in a dark room, close your eyes as the winter snow starts again. If music was food, this would be fondue. This show is a recap of the best Ambient Music of 2024 - with two exceptions - Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II - which was reissued in 2024, and Sigur Rós - ÁTTA - released in 2023, but was included as it it fit perfectly with these selections, so I made an exception. It's been many years since Eno's Airport music and the genre has gone from strength to quiet strength by artists including Röyksopp, Sigur Rós, Aphex Twin, Moby, Burial, Church Cords, Nala Sinephro and loads more…including the Godfather Brian Eno. Happy Boxing Day. Listen any day you want, you need your ambient music. Robyn et Yung Lean), tiré de l' album Brat and it's Completely Different but Also Still Brat (Atlantic Recording, 2024)Meryl, Zoukamine Freestyle, single (Maison caviar, 2024)Tiakola, Manon B Brazilian Remix (Feat Ryflo, Oskoow, MC Cebezinho), tiré de l'album BDLM vol. Then, we get recommendations that play with heavy distortion, post-rock, jazz, and field recordings. Songs featured: Helios - “First Dream Called Ocean” (Alex Ruder's foundational ambient pick) KMRU - “opener” (Dusty Henry's pick) Austyn Wohlers - “How Heavy the Slow World” (Brit Hansen's pick) Evan Chapman - “Windows” (Roddy Nikpour's pick) Nala Sinephro - “Continuum 4” (Isabel Khalili's pick) Mark McGuire - “Anhedonia” (Alex Ruder's pick) Listen to the full songs on KEXP's "In Our Headphones 2024" playlist on Spotify or the “What's In Our Headphones” playlist on YouTube. Snow Raven, also known as Suor, a performer from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Arctic Siberia, now residing in the United States, performed live at Esalen Institute this winter, during our Go Within Series. Snow Raven is renowned for her unique blend of traditional shamanic practices and modern electronic music, which she uses to connect with and teach about her indigenous culture. She has collaborated on various projects that blend traditional shamanic elements with modern technology, including creating an algorithmic generator of her vocal sounds. She stunned the crowd at Esalen with her riveting performance. Esalen's Sadia Bruce joins us today in this episode to talk about how she came to bring Snow Raven to Esalen. To conclude the episode, Bruce gives us a preview of Esalen's Summer Groove series,an exhilarating celebration of sound, creativity, and movement nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of Esalen Institute. In this episode of INISIGHTS, I am joined by Naledi Holtman a.k.a Gonubie & Rare Software, a Cape Town-based DJ, interdisciplinary artist and classically trained musician and flautist, who takes her name and inspiration from the river and area in South Africa's Eastern Cape where her mother was raised. Naledi's album ‘Signals At Both Ears', released in September last year, is a breathtaking and expertly-composed piece of ambient music that holds a freshness and distinct identity, whilst evoking some of genres classic works.Over the course of this interview, Naledi begins by discussing her experience of playing at Search Festival in Cape Town and debuting her live set as Gonubie, left turns in creativity and beginning to compose ambient music. Next, we discuss the influences and themes behind ‘Signals At Both Ears', from Nala Sinephro and Carlos Nino to Harold Budd, finding a home for the album on the New Forest's Métron Records, exploring the theme of home through art and how sound can evoke the feeling of returning to oneself, constructing a musical world and the parallels between music and architecture. Naledi concludes by discussing the future of the Gonbuie project and highlighting key artists, collectives and parties in the South African Scene, finishing with some current favourite selections - Buy Music Club below. This week, Imperfect Paradise is featuring Part 1 & Part 2 of a four-part series from How To LA. Unsheltered life in L.A. can be dangerous and even deadly — and there has been a massive increase in the death rate for unhoused people in the county over the last few years. There is work being done by the mayor's office to get people off the street and into temporary housing. But the promise of services — whether in the form of housing, treatment for substance addiction, or mental health counseling — cannot help if people aren't alive in 6 months, a year — or 5 — to receive them. While they wait, many unhoused people have come to rely on mutual aid volunteers to cover their immediate needs, from overdose prevention to fresh drinking water. In this mini-series from How To LA, host Brian De Los Santos and producer Evan Jacoby explore what these mutual aid groups actually do for our unhoused neighbors, and where these service gaps come from in the first place. #208: This is the fourth and final episode in our multi-part series on volunteers who provide services for unhoused people throughout Los Angeles. In this debrief episode, HTLA host Brian De Los Santos and producer Evan Jacoby recap some of the big questions we've asked throughout the series, and bring a new question to many of our guests from the previous episodes: "What should the relationship be between mutual aid volunteers and government agencies?" If you want to learn more about mutual aid in Los Angeles, check out Evan's reporting on LAist.com Or, if you want to learn about mutual aid groups in your neighborhood and maybe join them, check out these resources: Los Angeles: https://mutualaidla.org/get-involved/ https://thepeoplesproject.la/get-aid/ National: https://www.mutualaidhub.org/ Guests: Aria Cataño, founder of WaterDrop LA; Ndindi Kitonga, founder of Palms Unhoused Mutual Aid (PUMA); Councilmember Nithya Raman of Council District 4; Benjamin Henwood, PhD, professor of social policy and health at the University of Southern California Music in this episode composed by: Dexter Thomas, Evan Jacoby, Ill Considered, Meitei, Nala Sinephro, Ricky Eat Acid

Another carefully curated selection of new sounds from @weheardwonders. The closer from Jeff Tobias's debut full-length serves as an ideal opener and Lady Wray's marathon album-rollout is almost complete. Both the medium and the message of FKA twigs' new mixtape are ripe for discussion, while Midlake's yearning for the past is - we learn - personal. Plus, we finally give Nala Sinephro's incredible Space 1.8 the time and attention it deserves, and a rollickingly rootsy slice of rock'n'roll has the Vinyl Word. In episode 57 of the Podcast for Social Research's "Practical Criticism" series, the first of a new season, Rebecca Ariel Porte plays Nala Sinephro and Pharoah Sanders and Floating Points for Ajay Singh Chaudhary, who, as usual, doesn't know what the object of the week will be. Their conversation ranges over promises, promissory structures, broken promises, avant-jazz and minimalism, Coltrane's "sheets of sound," phasing, convalescence, composition and the medicinal, conversations and echoes, and the sound of nothing to prove.
Kept it super mellow on this episode. Some great new releases from New York United and Nala Sinephro, along with some more obscure digs as well. Enjoy! Tracklist: New York United, Nala Sinephro, Kent Glenn, Ross, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge, Mal Waldron
