Dave Rosa is President and CEO of NeuroOne, a company focused on advancing neurotechnology by developing thin-film minimally invasive electrode technology that can perform diagnostic and therapeutic functions for neurological conditions. The company's OneRF ablation system allows doctors to identify and ablate problematic brain tissue in a single hospitalization. NeuroOne is expanding its technology beyond the brain to include the spine to treat pain and is addressing various neurological conditions through ablation, stimulation, and drug delivery.   Dave explains, "The OneRF ablation system is an electrode that looks very similar to the electrode that we got cleared shortly after our last discussion. So that was in October of 2022. But that device only had diagnostic capabilities. So what doctors would do is they would implant those electrodes, and they would leave the patient in the hospital for, say, up to a week on average." "The goal was for the neurosurgeon and neurologist to be able to identify the parts of brain tissue that were triggering seizures or causing neurological issues. Then, after that procedure was done, the devices would be removed, and patients would go home. So that was kind of the old way of doing it."   "What we did was to have the ability to reduce the amount of hospitalizations a patient would have to experience. We did develop this electrode technology that looks very similar to the diagnostic one approved in April but with the capability of not just doing the diagnostics but also the ablation. So the difference here is that when the patient comes in for the diagnostic procedure after that concludes, the doctor will wheel them into the patient's room, not the operating room."   #NeuroOne #Neurosurgery #ElectrodeTechnology nmtc1.com Download the transcript here

With advances in AI and robotics, neurosurgery has become an important field to begin integrating new technology for better patient care. Dr. Osama Kashlan, a Neurosurgeon at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital joins us today for a lively chat on his recent work. On the show, he discusses the standardization of back pain and care at Weill Cornell along with the interdisciplinary approach that he supports for all of his patients. He dives into how robotics works in surgery along with its benefits of reducing risk and time, both for the surgery itself and the recovery process. He also shares with us what motion-sparing surgery is and the new understanding that surgeons have of the complex nature of the spine. He advocates for the least invasive treatments (PT, medication, and injections) before patients are considered as surgical candidates. Dr. Osama Kashlan is Director of Spine Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. His specialty is minimally invasive spine surgery, including innovative new endoscopic approaches to the spine. He takes pride in ensuring all motion-sparing options— including disc replacement, facet replacement, and decompressive non-fusion endoscopic procedures—are exhausted prior to offering his patients fusion operations. Before joining the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Kashlan served as Director of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he was also in charge of the spine fellowship. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Kashlan is an officer in the Air National Guard and has been involved in projects to improve treatment of head injuries on the battlefield in addition to spreading awareness regarding spinal cord injuries in special warfare operators. He also has a special interest in global neurosurgery and has led multiple neurosurgery mission trips around the world. Connect with him:@osamakashlanmd

I think it's important to get that message out to as many people as possible. You will get people saying whatever the hell they want to say, in a very negative fashion, but it's a vast minority of people. The vast majority of people tell me about how much better they are, how many illnesses they've fixed. They tell me how their dad's out of a nursing home and is able to live on his own again, and that he's off all his medications. Or how someone underweight has put on weight after living very frail and skinny and now he's putting on muscle again. Just like other people are losing excess weight, they're feeling much better, and their diabetes is gone, their acid reflux is gone. These diseases that were just crippling people and crippling society, they just go away in a realist and short period of time.17:50 – Aspartame is on the carcinogen list for years now. I heard that when I was a kid in the 1980's. It was mentioned casually, like, hey that might cause cancer, or might be involved in it, or something like that. So this has been...

Controlling blood sugar levels and insulin resistance are issues with diabetes. Lowering your insulin is the treatment for that. How may insulin levels be decreased? You lessen the level of carbs in your body. When you stop eating carbohydrates, your body will produce the right amount of carbohydrates, which will cause your insulin levels to decrease.  Dr Anthony hasn't heard of many people doing a Plant-based diet to cure type one diabetes but there are studies with ketogenic diets helping type one and type two diabetes. Some people with type one diabetes have radically changed how they manage their condition by adopting carnivorous or even ketogenic diets. They only need to provide a small amount of long-acting insulin, which will last them for the entire day, rather than many doses of the drug throughout the day. [18:52] All Plants Have Carcinogens! Why Plants Are Trying to Kill You There are undoubtedly things that have the potential to have hormetic effects. However, there is a claim that all of these plant toxins, literally millions of them, are not produced by plants for human benefit because we are not living in the Garden of Eden.  There's no actual evidence provided to say which chemicals are hormetic. At what dosage? Just get one leaf from your spinach or sage. That doesn't necessarily have all the same chemicals.  What kind of surroundings did it grow in? What kind of soil was it? What time was the pick? When must it be chosen as having to be freshman, it must be medicines. All of these objects' chemical makeups are altered by this. And so now all of a sudden, you don't know what dosage of digitalis you're getting. You can experience this beneficial hormetic effect in very small dosages. But it's in very controlled doses. [24:04] How can you tell whether something is working for or against you? You could follow an entire elimination diet. Do it for a month, then assess your feelings. After that, you introduce each thing one at a time. Some people are more resistant to these harmful chemicals and will have a better ability to detoxify these things.  [31:51] Eating The Right Animal Protein on the Carnivore Diet  Pick through exactly what you're eating. You can gain a small volume of muscle and bone and lose a large volume of fat and you'll gain weight, but your body composition will be different, and your clothes will fit differently.  [44:03] Heart rate variability: A sign to see if meat or plant toxic are good or bad for you? Nothing in meat will disrupt your heart's rhythm or bring on an arrhythmia. However, you might be hiding something. For example, your electrolytes are slightly out of balance, which is uncommon on a carnivorous diet. However, it may be claimed that when you switch to a ketogenic diet or a carnivore diet that is ketogenic from eating a lot of carbohydrates while your insulin is up, your levels of insulin suddenly go down.
