In my kitchen this week, I'm joined by Niall Kiddle, the founder of Organised, the world's first 100% natural beef organ protein supplement. Having Niall here was a real treat— as although our diets and lifestyles look completely different on paper, we actually share quite a few commonalities.Niall's journey into the Ancestral Lifestyle began around six years ago, inspired by Joe Rogan, Ben Greenfield, and Paul Saladino. Since then, he's been captivated by how this way of eating has transformed his well-being, from boosting his energy and enhancing his skin to improving his overall vitality. His passion for the benefits of the Ancestral Diet drives his desire to share it with others. One challenging part of the Ancestral Diet is the inclusion of organ meats like liver and kidneys. Although these are packed with nutrients, they're not always easy to incorporate. That's why Niall created Organised, a supplement that combines beef collagen, bovine colostrum, a bovine organ complex (including liver, heart, spleen, and lung), Celtic sea salt, raw honey, maple syrup, and date—all in one convenient serving. In this episode, Niall and I delve into what the Ancestral lifestyle is all about, the foods he chooses to eat (and avoid), and the reasoning behind his choices. We also dive into lively discussions on topics like raw milk, alcohol, and morning routines! This episode is packed with insights you're going to love. While the Ancestral Diet may not be for everyone, there are definitely some principles that we can all incorporate into our daily lives!Topics we discussed:Why should we eat organs?Eating nose to tail - what that means and why it is important? What is the ancestral diet?Your journey to the ancestral diet and to starting Organised? What is in organised? What does it mean to live ancestrallyDoes your diet/lifestyle ever restrict you?Raw MilkWhy should people avoid supermarket milk?Your relationship with alcoholTo check out Organised click hereSponsors:This episode is sponsored by Zooki Claim your Zooki Trial Pack hereThis episode was hosted and produced by Georgia SymondsGeorgia's Instagram - click here! For more information and other interesting articles check out our website: www.catchupsinmykitchen.com Hosted on Acast. In this podcast, we're going to talk about the best and worst oil for deep frying. Seed oils are polyunsaturated fatty acids. Vegetable oil is actually seed oil—it doesn't come from vegetables. Seed oils go through industrial processing involving heating and the addition of solvents like hexane, a chemical found in gasoline. This process allows seed oils to be shelf-stable for long periods of time. Around 25% to 30% of our calories come from seed oils. When you cook processed foods like donuts in seed oils, you're combining sugar with fat and heat. This process, called glycation, creates sticky proteins in the body. Fast food oil is reheated and reused repeatedly. The more it's heated, the more toxic it becomes. Seed oils were not originally created for human consumption. They're incredibly damaging to the mitochondria and lead to insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, obesity, heart disease, and an increased risk for cancer. Soybean oil causes the most damage to the body, followed by corn oil, sunflower oil, and canola oil. Healthier cooking oils for frying include avocado oil, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, beef tallow, butter, and ghee. Keep in mind it's best to cook over low or medium heat. In this episode of the Nutritional Therapy and Wellness Podcast, your host, Jamie Belz, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) and Master Health Coach, walks you through the incredible story of Dr. Francis M. Pottenger Jr., a physician and research scientist of the early 1900s. Dr. Pottenger worked in a sanitarium, a medical facility found commonly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which approached the treatment of disease with exposure to fresh air and sunlight, restorative environments, rest and relaxation – often in outdoor settings, nutrient-dense foods, light physical activity, close monitoring by medical staff, structured routines, and social interaction as a way of strengthening the patient's immune system and improving their overall health so their bodies could fight off pathogens and heal. While studying the correlation between tuberculosis and the adrenal glands, he noticed vast differences in the health of his feline test subjects depending upon the diets they were fed - raw milk and raw meat versus cooked/pasteurized milk and cooked meat. Over ten years and multiple generations of more than 900 cats, Dr. Pottenger conducted a research project that would eventually become known as "The Pottenger's Cats Study." This study ultimately laid the revolutionary groundwork for what we now call "epigenetics"—the study of how environmental factors, such as diet, stress, and exposure to toxins, can switch our genes on or off without changing the underlying DNA sequence. The profound findings of Dr. Pottenger's study were not so much that what the cats ate impacted their health as that it impacted the health of three subsequent generations of kittens through transgenerational nutritional deficiencies. So, what does this mean to the human race? Are WE a case of Pottenger's Humans? Is there hope for regeneration? This impactful and truly astonishing story is not told in school, but it should be. You'll want to hear it yourself and then tell everyone you know. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Ryan Brown. Having battled years of eating disorders and the chronic consequences of such behavior, Ryan has decided to embark on another healing journey, bringing you the no-BS truth about healing using a ketogenic lifestyle! Where being fat adapted is king and allows you to pursue your individual health goals! In this episode, Ryan opens up about his eating disorder; he went from 88 pounds to 130. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of his health problems. Ryan speaks about his small fiber sensory neuropathy (SFSN) diagnosis. Plus, he talks about detoxing from heavy metals and mold toxicity. Later, Ryan dives into all things ketosis and busts some common misconnections people have around a keto lifestyle. Tune in as we chat about the importance of animal-based protein, cholesterol, and the most significant pharmaceutical scam in the medical industry. He was 88 pounds and dealt with severe anorexia. Plus, Ryan was suffering from hardcore mental health problems. Eventually, Ryan got his weight up to 130. However, that wasn't the end of his health problems. Despite gaining weight, Ryan's energy never returned, and he never addressed his emotional trauma from childhood. Later, Ryan was diagnosed with small fiber sensory neuropathy (SFSN). [11:40] Mercury in Tuna: Measuring Heavy Metals in Human Hair One of Ryan Brown's heroes is Dr. Terry Wahls. Learn more about Dr. Wahls here: https://terrywahls.com When Ryan did a deep dive on functional medicine, he looked at his mercury levels. At one point, Ryan had been eating tuna daily for four years. When Ryan tested his hair follicle levels for mercury, his levels came back extremely high. Blood tests will look at acute mercury, but they won't give you chronic levels of mercury. The bigger the fish, the more toxins they are going to have. [18:20] Mold Toxicity: Getting Your Energy Levels Back With a Heavy Metal Detox Another deep dive Ryan did on his health was regarding mold toxicity. In LA, Ryan found black mold in his home; he lived in it for over a year. After moving out of that environment, Ryan's energy levels finally increased. Detoxing from heavy metals and staying in ketosis have been total game-changers for Ryan's health. [21:15] Free Tools to Improve and Support Your Mental Health Ryan will start his day by journaling. He writes about good things that are going on in his life. Once you believe in something, great things are going to happen. Plus, Ryan will spend as much time outside as possible. He loves to ground himself and practice breathing. Breathwork is one of the most potent mindset tools that we have. [27:40] Why Ryan Is Such a Big Fan of Getting Into Ketosis Ketosis is one of the most potent therapeutic tools anyone can use as a human being. Ketosis will help reset your body and give you humanity back. Infants are in ketosis, and women during pregnancy are in ketosis too. So many people in the United States are metabolically inflexible. Every single one of these people can benefit from ketosis. [30:10] Ryan Debunks Common Misconceptions About Keto Too many health coaches and influencers are making ketosis complicated. Ketosis is not complex; it's simple. One of the biggest mistakes people make is eating things that are labeled “keto.” Nothing in the world labeled “keto” beats eating real and whole foods. You need to focus on real food instead of packaged and processed goods. Another thing people are getting wrong is worrying about eating too much protein. It's actually pretty challenging to get into gluconeogenesis. [35:40] Animal-Based Proteins Are Amazing for the Human Body Pretty much everything you hear mainstream, almost the opposite is true. Animals have the full array of amino acids that the human body needs. While on the other hand, plants do not have the full array of amino acids we need. Ryan is a massive fan of eating fatty red meat. You need cholesterol to synthesize vitamin D. Also, don't be afraid to eat eggs; eggs are great for your hormones. [39:30] Cholesterol Is Critical for the Body and Your Overall Health More people die from heart disease with normal to low cholesterol than with high cholesterol. Cholesterol is essential; your membrane is made up of partly cholesterol. Ryan says that statins are the most significant pharmaceutical scam in the medical industry. Just like the Ancestral Diet is so different from the standard American diet, so the ways our ancestors birthed bears very little relation to how modern industrialised communities bring the next generation into the world. In this intimate episode, originally recorded for patrons of the podcast, Andrea and I share our birthing stories. We've got four births between us and we came to them with very different backgrounds. We talk about the actual births, what we learnt from them, what we regret and much more. There's so much to learn from how one approaches birth; we hope this episode encourages/inspires you whether you're planning to birth soon or not!If you like this episode, there are nearly 70 patron-exclusive podcasts, videos and aftershows that you can get access to by joining our community at the Companionship level. BEN HUNT has always been fascinated with the question of how humans can live healthy, happy, and rewarding lives. That curiosity, combined with a healthy distrust of anything mainstream has led him to explore a wide range of subjects spanning everything from biohacking to food and farming to ethics and spirituality. In addition to his main roles as a writer and a coach, Ben is also a smallholder, graphic designer, didgeridoo maker, bushcraft instructor, and chess player. Health/lifestyle consultant, eight-year carnivore and drummer PHIL ESCOTT got chronically ill as a vegetarian, and his body revolted with psoriatic arthritis and other autoimmune conditions in 2010, leaving him unable to move without severe pain, let alone drum or exercise, and he had to throw out all his existing “expertise” and start from scratch. Phil's eventual combination of a carnivore diet with EMF and artificial light avoidance, cold thermogenesis and a range of other health enhancing practices reversed the “incurable” diseases that he suffered from. His book “Arthritis, The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me” gained a foreword by Dr. Jack Kruse and has become an Amazon Kindle bestseller and is now available in print. Phil talks from personal experience about contemporary lifestyle and diet choices, disconnects from our ancestral heritage, emotional balancing and the simple but often misunderstood nature of spiritual awakening. He now consults with clients worldwide helping them to reverse their metabolic and autoimmune issues. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Anthony Chaffee. He's an American medical doctor and Neurosurgical resident who, over a span of 20+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health. He claims that the majority of the so-called chronic illnesses are brought on by the food we consume and can be treated by switching to a diet tailored to our species. About 23 years ago, when Dr Anthony was taking cancer biology at the University of Washington, they were learning about the roles of plants. Plants in general have about a million different defense chemicals that are used to poison and deter animals and insects from meeting them up. They need to be able to protect themselves because animals and insects are constantly attacking them. They learned that quite a few plant toxins had already been demonstrated to be carcinogenic by researchers and that people had even recognized this fact. Brussels sprouts had 136 identified carcinogens, and then mushrooms had over 100. And then all of these different produce items that people would eat on a regular basis would have dozens and dozens of different carcinogens in them. That's why Dr Anthony is on full carnivore. In this episode, Dr Anthony speaks about the toxins people are getting from eating plants. He gives some advice on what you can do to avoid chronic disease and live a longer life. Tune in as we chat about carcinogens, plant toxins, hormetic effects, and the effects of eating full carnivore on your body. [12:15] Can Diabetes be Reversed with a Plant-Based Vegan Diet? Controlling blood sugar levels and insulin resistance are issues with diabetes. Lowering your insulin is the treatment for that. How may insulin levels be decreased? You lessen the level of carbs in your body. When you stop eating carbohydrates, your body will produce the right amount of carbohydrates, which will cause your insulin levels to decrease. Dr Anthony hasn't heard of many people doing a Plant-based diet to cure type one diabetes but there are studies with ketogenic diets helping type one and type two diabetes. Some people with type one diabetes have radically changed how they manage their condition by adopting carnivorous or even ketogenic diets. They only need to provide a small amount of long-acting insulin, which will last them for the entire day, rather than many doses of the drug throughout the day. [18:52] All Plants Have Carcinogens! Why Plants Are Trying to Kill You There are undoubtedly things that have the potential to have hormetic effects. However, there is a claim that all of these plant toxins, literally millions of them, are not produced by plants for human benefit because we are not living in the Garden of Eden. There's no actual evidence provided to say which chemicals are hormetic. At what dosage? Just get one leaf from your spinach or sage. That doesn't necessarily have all the same chemicals. What kind of surroundings did it grow in? What kind of soil was it? What time was the pick? When must it be chosen as having to be freshman, it must be medicines. All of these objects' chemical makeups are altered by this. And so now all of a sudden, you don't know what dosage of digitalis you're getting. You can experience this beneficial hormetic effect in very small dosages. But it's in very controlled doses. [24:04] How can you tell whether something is working for or against you? You could follow an entire elimination diet. Do it for a month, then assess your feelings. After that, you introduce each thing one at a time. Some people are more resistant to these harmful chemicals and will have a better ability to detoxify these things. [31:51] Eating The Right Animal Protein on the Carnivore Diet Pick through exactly what you're eating. You can gain a small volume of muscle and bone and lose a large volume of fat and you'll gain weight, but your body composition will be different, and your clothes will fit differently. [44:03] Heart rate variability: A sign to see if meat or plant toxic are good or bad for you? Nothing in meat will disrupt your heart's rhythm or bring on an arrhythmia. However, you might be hiding something. For example, your electrolytes are slightly out of balance, which is uncommon on a carnivorous diet. However, it may be claimed that when you switch to a ketogenic diet or a carnivore diet that is ketogenic from eating a lot of carbohydrates while your insulin is up, your levels of insulin suddenly go down. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Saladino. He is the leading authority on the science and application of the carnivore diet. He has used this diet to reverse autoimmunity, chronic inflammation and mental health issues in hundreds of patients, many of whom had been told their conditions were untreatable. In addition to his personal podcast, Fundamental Health, he can be found featured on numerous podcasts including The Minimalists, The Model Health Show, Bulletproof Radio, The Dr. Gundry Podcast, The Ben Greenfield Podcast, Dr. Mercola, Health Theory, Mark Bell's Power Project, and many others. He has also appeared on The Doctors TV show and will release his first book in 2020 titled, “The Carnivore Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Optimal Health by Returning to our Ancestral Diet.” In this episode, Dr. Paul Saladino first speaks about his appearance on the Doctors and how it was a complete hit job. Then, Dr. Saladino reveals the reason he started incorporating more carbohydrates into his diet. We talk about why insulin resistance isn't the best term to describe what is going on with people's health. Later, we dive into the importance of lowering your linolic acid intake. Tune in as we chat about omega-3s, why Dr. Paul doesn't eat any vegetables, and if there is a connection between eating meat and colon cancer. [00:50] Dr. Paul Saladino Talks About His Appearance on The Doctors Before Dr. Paul's appearance on The Doctors, he was told it would be a debate. They had five doctors and one lawyer. Plus, they had a vegan doctor to argue against Dr. Paul. There was a lot of yelling, and Dr. Paul was barely given a chance to say what he needed to say. Paul invited them to his podcast to have an honest and genuine debate. None of them showed up. If you want to watch it on YouTube, check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaPrrg4tytE [09:50] Why Dr. Paul Started To Eat More Carbohydrates Ketosis at the beginning for Dr. Paul without carbohydrates in his diet seemed fine. Eventually, Dr. Paul was getting a lot of muscle cramps, and he was getting heart palpitations at night. So, Dr. Paul started to reintroduce carbohydrates into his diet. First, he started to introduce honey into his lifestyle. After incorporating honey, Dr. Paul started to feel better. Blood sugar will spike when you include carbohydrates in your diet, especially honey. However, Dr. Paul's blood glucose tracing was very low. [22:50] Why Dr. Paul Doesn't Like The Term Insulin Resistance Paul doesn't like the term insulin resistance. He thinks metabolic dysfunction is a more precise term. He doesn't like to say insulin resistance because two types of insulin resistance are often confused and conflated. The first type of insulin resistance is physiologic insulin resistance. Humans have evolved a state known as ketosis, which goes hand in hand with physiologic insulin resistance. Then, there is pathological insulin resistance. Many people who exclude carbohydrates will see improvements in their physiology. [34:50] The Importance of Decreasing The Amount of Linoleic Acid In Your Diet Many people should decrease the amount of linoleic acid in their diet. We have to understand how much linoleic acid is in the foods we eat as humans. Soybean oil has 45 to 50% linoleic acid. Butter and tallow, which has rendered animal fat from cows, will have much lower levels of linoleic acid, around 2%. The composition of our cell membranes takes a long time to change. So, breaking down the linoleic acid will take a great deal of time. A low carbohydrate approach will help lower the linoleic acid in your diet. [40:00] What Happens When We Consume Too Much Linoleic Acid When we eat more linoleic acid, we can find more oxidized LDL. The oxidation and the instability of linoleic acid is one of the problems. There could be some potentially hormonal roles for linoleic acid that are negative as well. The underlying thing to consider here is an evolutionarily appropriate diet for humans. We consume much more linoleic acid than we ever have. [47:25] Should You Be Taking Fish Oil on The Ketogenic Diet? Fish oil spoils extremely fast. These oils are so fragile, and we're putting them in capsules, and we're presuming that they're not oxidized. The only place Dr. Paul is getting omega-3 is essentially from ruminant animal fat. Paul is not convinced that omega-3s are that beneficial or that we should be pumping ourselves full of them. There have been millions and millions of humans that have no access to coastal foods; they did just fine from eating land animals. [64:35] You Want To Push Your Linoleic Acid Consumption As Low As Possible Paul says to keep your linoleic acid consumption as low as possible. The human body can't make omega-6, but there's omega-6 in everything. The linoleic acid composition of a mother's breast milk changes based on their dietary consumption. If you look at the hunter-gatherers, their linoleic acid in the breast milk is much lower because they're eating so little linoleic acid in their diet. [70:10] Thirty Days To Radical Health Paul is doing an animal-based 30-day challenge. In fact, Dr. Paul challenges you to try an animal-based diet for 30 days and NOT flourish! Learn more about the challenge here: https://animalbased30.com/ When you sign up, he will send you a free infographic and an eBook. [75:55] Are There Any Vegetables That You Should Be Eating? If you think canonically about what a vegetable is, it's the part of a plant that it doesn't want you to eat. Vegetables don't have a role in human health unless you want to go to great lengths to detoxify them. If you want to do vegetables, ferment the heck out of them and maybe do something like sauerkraut. Even some fruit can be problematic for humans. [88:10] Is There Really A Connection Between Eating Meat and Colon Cancer? We've been cooking meat for more than a million years. Calcium is an essential part of every human diet, whether you're getting it from bones or you're getting it from good sources of dairy. When you have more calcium in the diet, you tend to see lower rates of colon cancer. Overall, we should go back to the idea of what's evolutionarily consistent, and we try to understand that as best as possible to inform our behaviors. AND MUCH MORE!
