In this episode, Amie & Sara discuss 2 hot trending topics: Bill 124 has been deemed unconstitutional and the "taboo" subject of talking about pay equity. In nursing, there is a long history of saying that "we are called by god", well some nurses are called by the paper,- and that's just fine too. This thinking as well is PROBLEMATIC. We are not servants, we are not just caregivers, the church does not, nor should influence what we do. Nursing is a job- just like any other jobs, but the price of not bargaining what we are worth can have even steeper consequences. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-bill-124-ontario-public-sector-wage-increase/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/bill-124-ontario-public-sector-wages-1.6668186

In this episode, Amie & Sara discuss why change in healthcare is so difficult and what we can all do to make change more successful and less daunting.

Disclaimer: In the introduction of this podcast, we play a recorded clip (with permission from Shirley Archibald) of the recording that was taken by Amie during her mom's visit to the hospital. It does contain disturbing and difficult content to listen to. It may be triggering to some. Please listen at your own discretion. When did cell phone usage in the emergency department become more important than delivering care to a cardiac patient who told you they feel their heart is going to stop? We discuss the importance of dismantling the structures that allow racism to continue to exist in healthcare organizations and that ALL organizations must do the work to combat anti-Black racism, because after all, racism can have deadly outcomes. Do you remember your training when it came to social media use as a healthcare provider? We do, it pretty much was DON'T USE IT. Social media use was discarded as "extracurricular". What if we told you that social media is a powerful tool for empowerment, change and the exchange of healthcare knowledge? It's time to shut down the misconceptions of social media use and think about how we can use it innovatively in healthcare. We discuss it in Gritty Nurse fashion, the only way we know how.

You often hear that nursing is a calling. A gift that is bestowed upon those who "answer the call". Well that isn't often the case! People who enter the profession of nursing may come from different walks of life and varied backgrounds. Some stumble into nursing, while others always "knew" they wanted to be a nurse. Either way- the end result is the same...a passion for advocacy of those who are most vulnerable and learning to care for others using nursing science. We sit down and speak with Adrienne Behning, a nurse and fellow podcaster about her journey into nursing and her awesome podcast "Nursing Uncensored".

Is Covid Airborne? Should I send my child/children to school? How does a disease go from being acute to endemic? What's a likely timeline for COVID-19 to become endemic? Will wave 4 be the most deadly? Will this shit end? Vaccines have done most of the heavy lifting, but we need honesty, transparency, strong public health policy and working collectively as a community to end this pandemic.
