I think I've been begging for an age stated OGD for the better part of a decade which is why I was so pleased to see a 16yr old Old Grand Dad at 100 proof just drop! Beam's high rye mashbill is on full display in this allocated offering, serving up licorice, orange marmalade, oak spice, fine leather and an impeccably chewy finish. About a month ago rumors broke that the beloved Old Grand Dad 114 was kicking the bucket. A WhiskeyTuber released a video discussing an article from Vine Pair stating that insider information from Jim Beam was going to stop making OGD 114. The good news is at the time of uploading this Podcast the videos description has been updated stating "people at Beam reached out to me to let me know that Old-Grand Dad 114 is indeed still in production and will continue to be." That being said this episode looks at the news swirling around at the time of these rumors and what our thoughts where.

Tasting Notes: Since Old Grand Dad 114 has become more widely available again, we'd thought we revisit this under the radar value bourbon. Made with Jim Beam's slightly higher rye recipe, the same as in Basil Hayden, and bottled without age statement at 114 proof. The normally "foxy" yeast and orange peel characteristic of Jim Beam is on full display with fruit, yeast, and oak being pushed forward by the higher proof. Light and fruity on the nose, but with bigger oak than regular Jim Beam, this is an easy every day sipper to fall in love with.

Abstract: Epigenetic regulators present novel opportunities for both ischemic stroke research and therapeutic interventions. While previous work has implicated that they may provide neuroprotection by potentially influencing coordinated sets of genes and pathways, most of them remains largely uncharacterized in ischemic conditions. In this study, we used the oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) model in the immortalized mouse hippocampal neuronal cell line HT-22 and carried out an RNAi screen on epigenetic regulators. We identified Prmt5 as a novel negative regulator of neuronal cell survival after OGD, which presented a phenotype of translocation from the cytosol to the nucleus upon oxygen and energy depletion both in vitro and in vivo. Prmt5 bound to the chromatin and a large number of promoter regions to repress downstream gene expression. Silencing Prmt5 significantly dampened the OGD-induced changes for a large-scale of genes, and gene ontology analysis showed that Prmt5-target genes were highly enriched for Hedgehog signaling. Encouraged by the above observation, we treated mice with middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) with the Prmt5 inhibitor EPZ015666 and found that Prmt5 inhibition sustain protection against neuronal death in vivo. Together, our findings revealed a novel epigenetic mechanism of Prmt5 in cerebral ischemia and uncovered a potential target for neuroprotection. Copy rights belong to original authors. Tasting Notes: Orange blossom honey, leather, and fruit roll up the nose. Chewable palate of Albanese gummies, foxy yeast, and another pile of candied oranges and real Corinthian leather! OGD 114 was ignored forever, and now that you can't get it, everyone wants it! So what's new? That being said, this is a steadfast sipper, really showing off that foxy beam yeast and orange note at a very approachable price point.

On this episode we're doing an incredibly fun challenge we're calling Table Bourbons. Like Table wine, you know, cheaper stuff that you can have often and won't break the bank, we put together a flight of bourbons that were all less than $20. That's right, nothing we drank on this show was over $20 (in most stores), and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that some of these bourbons punched way about their weight class in terms of taste to price point. Original Broadcast: October 2009 Monthly Theme: King Solomon And the king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other." (1 Kings 3:25) Prostitutes In one of the most popular stories of Solomon's wisdom, two prostitutes come before him. They're suing each other for the custody of one of their children. Both had children but one rolled over on top of hers and crushed it to death. She then switched the babies in the middle of the night. The other found out and they went to court. In a spark of divine wisdom, Solomon saw a way to get right to the heart of the matter. Both women claimed the living child to be theirs. He ordered a sword to be brought and the child split in half. Both women would get half. Of course, the real mother stopped the proceedings and said to give the baby to the other woman. Solomon awarded the giving mother custody of the child. It wasn't just common sense that brought Solomon to this solution. It was truly wisdom from above. From that time on, "all Israel ... stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of OGd was in him to do justice" (v28). Solomon's wisdom became legendary. This wisdom compiled the book of Proverbs at his hand. This wisdom made there be no world ruler like Solomon in all of recorded history. This wisdom is also available to you if you make God's Word available to your heart and soul. This wisdom brings you Jesus. This wisdom brings you the forgiveness of all your sins at His Word. May you seek this wisdom today. Amen.

There’s been no shortage of getting your chance to buy raffle tickets for the Buffalo Trace OFC bottles. They carry a suggested price tag of $8-10k. Is there a hidden motive here by Buffalo Trace? A clever coup by BT to bring a bottle to market valued at $10k then release more OFC to the general market at $1k and call it a bargain? NDP, MGP, and the bias.
