All the descendants of Jacob were seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt. Then Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them. Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves. Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.” Ex 1

You may recall that the Hebrews were said to be building the storage cities of Pithom and Rameses.  You can read this in … Exo 1:11  So they appointed taskmasters over them to afflict them with hard labor. And they built for Pharaoh storage cities, Pithom and Raamses. Problem.  We have studied that the Hebrews left Egypt in 1446 B.C. and Rameses the Great (a.k.a. as Rameses II), the supposed pharaoh of the Exodus as per the late date (the wrong date) did not come to power until 1279 B.C. reigned until 1213 B.C.  So there are no cities named Rameses in the Nile Delta in 1446 B.C.  The city, later called Rameses, is called Avaris in the 15th century B.C., the time of the Exodus.  You can visit this site today.  It is called Tel el-daba.  So, what's going on?  Also, in this lesson, we deal with the city of Dan in the days of Abraham.  The events in chapter 15 are close to 2091 B.C. when Abraham and Sarah entered Canaan.  The city of Dan was named by the tribe of Dan – Dan is the son of Jacob the grandson of Abraham – when they moved north and captured the city of Laish (pronounced Lay Esh).  This is clear when we read … Jdg 18:29  They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father who was born in Israel; however, the name of the city formerly was Laish. So, Abraham comes to a city called Dan, as we read in the Bible, and the city of Dan is not even there yet!  This is nuts!  What is going on?  Is the Bible wrong? Was it written later in 3rd or 2nd century B.C.?  We need to find out and again show the truthfulness of the Bible.  In lesson 30 in Genesis 15 we then come across this verse … Gen 14:17  Then after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King's Valley). And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.   Who is this guy?  There are some who say it's Jesus!  That's crazy.  Some rabbis say it is Shem or the son of Shem the son of Noah.  Consider a few references from ancient Jewish (non-biblical) literature … Melchizedek was Shem the son of Noah, a priest most high." (Pirke De Rabbi Eliezari) "And Melchizedek is Shem, the son of Noah." (Rashi, Commentaries, Genesis 14:18) "And Melchizedek is Shem, the son of Noah." (Talmud, Tr. Nedarim32) That Melchizedek is Shem or his son is a major error since Melchizedek is the king of Salem.  Salem is probably Jerusalem.  At this time when Abraham and Melchizedek meet, Salem is a Jebusite city.  The Jebusites are a clan of the pagan Canaanites.  The rabbis show they dismiss real history and make up their own opinions which are in total conflict with historical truth. The book of Exodus, the second book in the Bible, is the story of how God rescued the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt.  This powerful narrative of liberation and faith is at the core of our ministry's mission, inspiring us to bring hope and freedom to those in need.  Here is a little bit of historical background:             Egypt was at the peak of its political and military power, dominating the world.  This powerful nation conquered smaller nations at will, taking captives from the population and selling them into slavery.  Smaller migrant groups already in the country were enslaved, too, including a group of people identified as the Sons of Israel, the descendants of those who had come to Egypt with Jacob in previous years.  They were considered a threat because of their great numbers, so the Egyptian leaders enslaved them, forcing them to build 'storage cities' named Pithom and Raamses.                This lasted for several hundred years until their prayers for relief were answered.  God called Moses, who was raised in the Egyptian palace, to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.  Here is a part of what God said to Moses: "I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey. . . So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My miracles, which I shall do in the midst of it; after that, he will let you go." (Exodus 3:17-20)   After a series of confrontations between Pharoah and Moses, God worked ten miraculous plagues on the Egyptian people to convince their leader to let the people go.  Moses led them out into the desert, and soon after,  God parted the waters of the Red Sea and allowed them to escape the Egyptian chariots Pharoah had sent to destroy them.  They were free!  It was another 40 years before they were allowed to enter the Promised Land, but the promise of God finally happened. God had heard their cries for freedom from their bondage and suffering, and He worked a mighty work that is spoken of to this day.    I tell this story because it is one that not only inspires faith in the hearts of those who hear; it also teaches us great truths about the One God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the God who later sent his son, Jesus, to rescue all mankind from their suffering and sin.  One of the great truths from this story is that God hears us and cares about what is going on in our lives.  He is, literally, our "loving father," who listens to our prayers and wants us to share our hearts with Him.  Also, our Father-God can act in history to change our lives and bring us strength, courage, and blessings.  He may not work in our lives "on demand," but in His time, God acts!  Finally, God brings positive changes into our lives as we pray in faith.  God loves us, and wants to care for us both now, and in the life that is to come.   Won't you follow this Father-God who cares for you?  If you want Him to work in your life to bring forgiveness, joy, and hope, you can ask Jesus into your heart. We continue to work through Psalms that are connected with Asaph. This section started in Psalm 73 and goes through 83. There have been themes of lament and remembrance (often connected with the lamenting). This Psalm is also categorized as a corporate lament. But there are a couple unique elements to it, including it's description of God, and it's description of Israel. The basic structure of the psalm is this:v.1-3 - Appeal for God to Hear and Savev.4-7 - A lament of God's current anger toward his peoplev.8-13 - A lament of God's protection being removed from his peoplev.14-19 - Appeal for God to See and SaveAs we walk through this Psalm we are going to do a couple things. We will be looking at several larger chunks of scriptures to help fill out the context that brings this Psalm together. We are also going to walk through this Psalm mainly through the lens of what we learn about God. So as we walk through the outline just mentioned, we are going to focus on three things. In the first section we will look at the Description of God. In the next two sections that are the main lament, we are going to look at the Love of God. And in the last section, we are going to look at the Answer from God.Let's pray.Father, show us a glimpse of your glory this morning. Give us understanding, encouragement, and confidence in your love for us as we spend time in your Word together. Appeal for God to Hear and Save (verses 1-3).He opens by saying “Give ear” to our cries. He wants God to hear them out in their trouble and he addresses God in three different ways.1. “Give ear…O Shepherd of Israel.”This is an important theme for Asaph. Psalm 23, which is of David is probably the most famous Psalm regarding the Lord as a shepherd for his people. But in this series of Psalms related to Asaph, this is a theme he returns to again and again.Psalm 77:20,“You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.”Psalm 78:52,“He led out his people like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.”Psalm 79:13,“But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever.”Psalm 80:1,“Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock.”This is more than just a good illustration, there is an enduring likeness the Psalmist sees between us and sheep. The illustration might be the most acute as Israel was led in the wilderness, but there are several enduring realities from this analogy.We like sheep, are dependent on God, on our Shepherd to guide and lead us. We like sheep, are weak and need to be protected and defended. We see that this theme of sheep and a shepherd further carries on into the new testament. Jesus sees the crowds as sheep without a shepherd. Pastors are called to shepherd the the flock of God, under the chief Shepherd.This illustration wasn't just for God's guidance throughout the wilderness, it is relevant to how we approach God even today.So the Psalmist first appeals to God, the shepherd of his flock, to hear the cry of his sheep. And he carries the metaphor through the whole Psalm as he talks about us being fed by God, and for him to restore them and turn them back. God our Shepherd, Guide us back to you, we need your help.2. The Lord God of Hosts Verse 3,“Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved!”Verses 4, 7, 14, and 19 all describe God as the God of Hosts. God is the commander and leader of the armies of heaven, of the hosts of heaven, God almighty is a similar description. God has power and authority to change the situation, to rescue at any point he pleases to.And we know his authority is not limited to the heavenly realm. Every week in the commission at the end of our service, we are reminded “that all authority in heaven and earth has been given to [him].”God of angel armies, restore us and save us, make your face to shine upon us.3. “[The one] who is enthroned upon the cherubimVerse 2,“You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.”He brings to mind the Ark of the Covenant, specifically the top cover of it, where God dwells and speaks to his people. This is bringing an image of authority and power, but also several other things… It conveys God's Holiness and Presence. The ark was guarded very carefully because God's Holy presence was there, and it needs to be kept separate from a sinful people.It also is where the cloud and pillar would rest when he would speak with Moses. He is described as enthroned upon and among the cherubim, because that is the place where his voice was heard.It conveys God's Glory and Goodness. He asks God to “shine forth.” Show us your glory and power as you come to the aid of your people. He is an enthroned king who rules with power and authority. He is: The Lord of Host who is enthroned upon the Cherubim. These often are seen together in scripture.And if he is enthroned, there is a seat there that He hears and speaks from, and it is called the mercy seat.Exodus 25:17–22, God instructs Israel,“You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth. And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be. And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.”The Lord God almighty, the Lord of hosts, the Shepherd of Israel — this God hears and speaks to his people from above the mercy seat. The Psalmist pleads,“Hear us, let your glory shine forth, stir up your might, come to save us, have mercy on us! Come and answer us from the mercy seat.”One possibility on why he mentioned Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin is that he may be recounting what it was like when God led Israel through the wilderness. When they were on the move, these were the three tribes that would follow directly behind the ark as the camp moved out. They were also the offspring from Rachel, and were given great blessing from God. So the Psalmist addresses God as the Lord of Host, who is enthroned upon the Cherubim, who is also the Shepherd of his flock, Israel.2. Lament of the current destruction (verses 4-13).He mourns the current treatment and circumstance of God's people using two illustrations. He continues the description of Israel as a flock, and he also describes Israel as a nurtured vine. And in the midst of this, he address God with two questions.How long will you be angry with your sheep?Psalm 80:4–6, “O LORD God of hosts,how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.”Up to this point God's favor has been removed, he has removed his provision from them, his face is turned away from them.Their food and drink is their tears. No green pastures, no still waters. Their neighbors and enemies are hostile towards them, and mock and ridicule them. No comfort from the protection of God rod and staff. No meal prepared for them in the presence of their enemies.This is an especially bitter scenario, that God is described as having turned his face away even from the prayers of his people. This could be a description illustrating how silent God has been to answer them, or could be related to the nature of their prayers.They pray insincerely. Psalm 78:36–37,“But they flattered [God] with their mouths; they lied to him with their tongues. Their heart was not steadfast toward him; they were not faithful to his covenant.”He is poetically describing that God has not answered them, with favor and provision. God's response has been a lack of sustenance and an object of contention and conflict with our neighbors. “We have asked to be saved, and…” Verses 5-6,“You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.”So that's question 1, how long will you be angry with your flock?2. Why have you removed your protection from your vine? (Only psalm)Psalm 80:8–13, “You brought a vine out of Egypt;you drove out the nations and planted it. You cleared the ground for it;it took deep root and filled the land. The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches. It sent out its branches to the sea and its shoots to the River. Why then have you broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit? The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it.”He recounts God's special care for his vine. And as he moves from one description to the other, he is appealing not to their worthiness, but to God's love.God's love is on full display here.Isaiah gives us another detailed description of God's extraordinary love for his vine, and also an explanation for why it is being destroyed.Isaiah 5:1–7, “Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes. And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes? And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. I will make it a waste; it shall not be pruned or hoed, and briers and thorns shall grow up; I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it. For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his pleasant planting; and he looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, an outcry!The rhetorical question lands hard. Against all odds, this vine bore bitter, sour grapes. It had everything going for it and still it bore bad fruit and acted wickedly.Not only did he provide every possible thing necessary for the vine to bear good fruit, but God went even farther for his flock and for his vine.The refrain that appears through out the Psalm borrows language from the Aaronic blessing,“Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved!”Here is what the Lord commanded Aaron and his sons to do, Numbers 6:22–27,“The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them,The LORD bless you and keep you;the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”God commissioned a whole group of men to bless the people of Israel, and remind them of the favor and grace and peace He is ready to give them.Not only did God lavishly care for and provide for this vine, but he even commission Aaron and his sons to proactively speak a blessing over the people, and ask for His favor so that He would come and bless them. Just in case they are slow to ask for themselves, God sent out a group of people to ask on their behalf, so that He could come and bless you even if you were slow or reluctant to ask yourself. This is going the extra mile to say the least. This has been fresh for me this week. Each night I pray this blessing over my children swapping in the name of Jesus at points.What has been fresh is to remember: God gave us these words for us to use on behalf of others so that he may bless them. The vivid image of them being spoken to a God who hears, and answers from the mercy seat. His answers flows from His love and mercy, not from our worthiness. The Lord of Hosts, who is enthroned upon the Cherubim, above the mercy seat, hears me speaking back to Him the words he gave us!But we see, despite all of this, the vine only bore wild fruit. With everything going for it, it somehow managed to bear only wild, sour fruit. The vine was a delight in God's eyes, and when he came looking for justice he found bloodshed; when he came looking for righteousness, he found none.A few years back my wife made a fairy garden in one of our big planters in the back on our deck. We planted a few small plants in there but one day a sunflower seed sprouted. We staked it, weeded around it, it was just starting to bloom, then one morning we woke up and it was gone…a squirrel, proportionally the equivalent of a wild boar, destroyed that flower.In the end, I felt what the psalmist wants God to feel, don't let your vine get totaled, destroyed. What was all the work for?3. Appeal to God to See and Save (verses 14-19).Verse 14,“Turn again, O God of Hosts! Look down and have regard for this vine,”He appeals to God to not let all his work get ruined, all his care go to waste. Have mercy on us and restore the works of your hands. You love your flock, you love your vine. You have led it in the past, you have planted and cared for the vine. Take notice of the destruction to your vine, bring back your sheep, give us life that we may call upon your name. Let your face shine that we may be saved.And if God were to look on his people, two things would happen. The turning of His face is both terror, and salvation.Terror for those who take advantage of the vulnerability of the vine.Verse 16,“They have burned it with fire; they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of your face!”Back to the squirrel who demolished our sunflower plant… When I see the squirrel, it's over for him, the games up. The wicked and the wild bore had their moment, but when God's face turns, it's over. The enemy can only do what it is granted for a season to do. Terrified, the wicked flee at the turning of His face toward them… Salvation for the vine that he once again smiles upon. With God's face come his attention, with God face comes his strength and energy, with his face comes his glory and favor for His people.As God's favor goes, so it all goes. When God's favor is on his people, no circumstance can hinder them. “If God be for us, who can be against us?”.His favor can rescue us from trial, or make us prosper through trial. His favor can be seen through trial.Exodus 1:8–12, after Joseph died,“Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, ‘Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.' Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel.”If God is with his people and his face is towards them, then they will be alright.The prayer for God to hear, to see, to turn his face towards his people has been answered again and again for his people, and has ultimately answered through God sending Jesus.And God's ultimate answer is Jesus.Jesus is the man of God's right hand who came to save his people. The Son of Man that God has strengthened to provide salvation.The psalmist asks, Psalm 80:17, “But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!”Psalm 2:7–9,“I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.'”Psalm 110:1, “The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.'”They were looking for salvation to come from a king, whether that was David, or Solomon, or the long list of kings after them. And that hope was fulfilled in Jesus who is the king who will reign forever and is the man of God's right hand.And isn't it interesting that so many people do that same thing today? With all of our self-expression, self-discovery, self-sufficiency, self-worship. Yet so many people are still looking for one person to save them. Whether that be a president, or a king, or some other leader.This testifies to how we are made.They look (and we can look) to the wrong person to save us from the wrong things. What we really need is Jesus to save us from our sin. The true savior for the true problem. Jesus is the son of man with God's favor on him to rescue his people.Jesus is the true vine, that bears good fruit.Israel failed to be the vine that brought blessing to the nations. Jesus picks up this theme in John 15. The Father all along has been the vinedresser, the owner of the vineyard, but what is new is that Jesus declares is that HE is the vine.John 15:1–5,“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”The true vine is not those who are connected to Israel, the true vine is those that are connected to Jesus. Jesus takes it upon himself to be the vine that bears good fruit for the blessing of Israel and ultimately the blessing of the nations.We get it wrong, when after Jesus saves us, we then look to ourselves, or the church to be the vine, and not to Jesus. You cannot do it on your own, or you will fail again and again like Israel. The branches must depend on the vine to supply them with sustenance. The sheep must depend on the shepherd to lead them.Both metaphors have ongoing relevance. Nor, can you look to the church instead of Jesus.The church is Christ's body, and is an amazing blessing, and a place where a bunch of branches hang out, but Jesus is still the vine. When we look to the church to be everything Jesus should be for us, we will always find something wrong, or something missing, and we won't ever be satisfied.But it's because we have looked to it to be the vine instead of Jesus.Jesus is the true vine, and by being connected to Him, He will ensure that we bear good fruit instead of bitter fruit. He saves us and supplies us.Jesus is the God who sits enthroned on the true mercy seat in heaven. He hears and speaks from there, seated at the right hand of the father in heaven. He has made full, complete atonement for all who take refuge in Him, any who will abide in him, in His love, in His grace, in His forgiveness. We need not be shy to ask him for help for apart from him we can do nothing. We need not fear bringing messes to him, He answers from His throne of mercy.There has never been a time where He answered you because you deserved it. It's not: “sometime I earn it, and sometime I don't.” You NEVER earn it, it's ALWAYS Grace.When we ask for him to see us, shine on us, revive us, save us, it is according to his steadfast love and mercy. God answered his people before Christ, He answered his people with Christ, and he continues to answer his people through Christ.Forgiveness and help is not granted because we deserve it, but because God opens wide his arms and says come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden. So come to him, undeserving as your are, believe in the king of heaven, who has all authority in heaven and earth, and sits on the mercy seat. Ask Him to shine on you.Let's pray,Father, if there are any who do not know you this morning, would you let them see your glory and goodness, that you came to rescue us from ourselves, to give us life forever with you. Father, we ask that you would bless us, and keep us, would you make your face to shine upon us and be gracious to us. Would you lift up your countenance towards us, and give us peace. We ask this through the merit of Jesus on our behalf, Amen.The TableThis table reminds us that we now can have confidence to enter into the true Holy places in heaven, where Jesus sits because of His blood that was shed for us.

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves. Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.” Now a man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank. And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him. Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her young women walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her servant woman, and she took it. When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. She took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews' children.” Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, “Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Go.” So the girl went and called the child's mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. When the child grew older, she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, “Because,” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

La festividad de Pesaj, que conmemora la liberación del pueblo judío después de 210 años de esclavitud, tiene lugar cada año en el día 15 del mes de Nisán y se extiende a lo largo de ocho días. En 2024, este evento significativo se celebró entre el lunes 22 y el martes 30 de abril, en un contexto marcado por las tensiones persistentes derivadas del conflicto entre Israel y Hamás. A pesar de las dificultades actuales, tanto en Israel como en comunidades judías alrededor del mundo, se ha mantenido viva la tradición que recuerda la valiente historia que puso fin al dominio egipcio y marcó el comienzo de la travesía del pueblo hacia la libertad y la promesa de una tierra propia. Estos sucesos históricos ocurrieron durante el reinado del faraón Ramsés II, quien sometió a los hebreos a duras condiciones de esclavitud en las ciudades de Pithom y Ramsés. On this day of Lent, we invite you to reflect on these scriptures. What is the Spirit saying to you today? Psalm 22:1-5 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises. In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame. Exodus 1:4-14 Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died, but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them. Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” So, they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so, the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly. They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly. Hebrews 7:23-28 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. John 8:54-56 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” Prayer Search me out, O God, and know my heart. Creator God, may every breath we take be for your glory, may every footstep we take be a following of Jesus, trusting in your presence in this world. If God is for His people, who can be against them?    • There will always be opposition to God's people, which comes from Satan vs Seed antithesis.     • God will promote and protect his people no matter the opposition.

Charity makes 'one out of many' Arcana Coelestia 6628. In the preceding Explications it has been shown, as occasion offered, that the Doctrine of Charity was the doctrine in the Ancient Churches, and that this doctrine conjoined all the churches, and so made one out of many; for they acknowledged as men of the church all who lived in the good of charity, and called them brethren, however greatly they might be at variance in the truths which at this day are called the truths of faith. In these one instructed another, and this was among their works of charity; nor were they indignant if one did not accede to the opinion of another, knowing that everyone receives truth in proportion as he is in good. 6637...The church in general is constituted of those who are churches in particular, however far apart they may be. A church is a church from 'the fact that men live according to the Word' 6637 [2] Its being called the church is not from the fact that the Word is there, and that there are doctrinal things therefrom, nor from the fact that the Lord is known there, and that the sacraments are there; but it is the church from the fact that men live according to the Word, or according to doctrine from the Word, and so that the doctrine is the rule of life. For however well truths have been initiated and the church set up with a man, still such knowledges and falsities are continually rising up and assaulting what is of the church in him. Exodus 1: Verses 8-14.   Alienated truths Arcana Coelestia 6652. Who knew not Joseph. That this signifies which were completely alienated from the internal, is evident from the signification of “not knowing,” as being to be alienated; for he who does not know truth, and does not desire to know it, is alienated from the truth of the church (that alienation is here signified is plain from what follows, for he severely and cruelly afflicted the sons of Israel, by whom is represented the church, n. 6637); and from the representation of Joseph, as being the internal (n. 6177, 6224). Memory-knowledges alienated from the internal are memory-knowledges opposed to the church; for the good and truth which make the church flow in through the internal; and if these are not received by the natural, the internal is closed, and so the man is alienated from good and truth, and then no other memory-knowledges which are in the natural are acknowledged as truths than those which are false. These are then multiplied, and the truths themselves are cast out of doors. The strengthening of goods and truths through temptations 6663. And as they afflicted it, so it was multiplied. That this signifies that truths grew according to the infestations, is evident from the signification of “afflicting,” as being infestation; and from the signification of “being multiplied,” as being to grow in respect to truths (of which above, n. 6656). How the case herein is shall be told, because without experience of what is done in the other life, no one can now know what it is. Most spirits who come from the world and have lived the life of the Lord's commandments, before they can be uplifted into heaven and joined to societies there, are infested by the evils and falsities pertaining to them, to the end that they may be removed (see n. 6639); for there are impurities which they have contracted in the life of the body that in no wise agree with heaven. The infestations take place by their being immersed in their evils and falsities; and while they are in them, spirits who are in like evils and falsities are present, and labor by every means to lead them away from truth and good. But still they are not immersed so deeply in their evils and falsities that the influx through the angels from the Lord may not prevail; and the balance is maintained with exactness. The purpose of this is, that he who is infested may seem to himself to be in freedom, and thus to fight against the evils and falsities of himself, yet with the acknowledgment, if not at the time, yet afterward, that all the power of resisting was from the the Lord, (n. 1937, 1947, 2881, 5660). When this is being done, not only are the truths and goods strengthened which had been implanted before, but more are instilled; this being the result of every spiritual combat in which the combatant is victorious. This week we cover Exodus chapter 1 in which the story of Israel in Egypt pics right up from Genesis 50. The text then quick establishes that there is a new Pharaoh on the throne that does not care about Joseph or the Hebrews but fears that their numbers will grow to great. To combat this threat Pharaoh oppresses the Israelites with hard slave labor and orders that all male Hebrew babies be killed. This sets up the birth story of Moses in Exodus chapter 2. The king of Egypt said to the midwives to the Hebrews, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah, “When you act as midwives to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” But the midwives were God-fearing women; they disobeyed the king of Egypt's commands, but let the boys live. So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this and allowed the boys to live?” The midwives said to Pharaoh, “These Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.” So God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very strong. And because the midwives were God-fearers, God gave them families of their own.

And thank you for worshipping with us in person today. Long Story Short Last week we talked about Joseph. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and ended up in the land of Egypt. Joseph, because the Lord was with him, rose to rule Egypt as Pharaoh's 2nd in command. All of Joseph's family, his father, his brothers, and sisters came to live in Egypt to escape a famine. They ended up staying in Egypt. The family multiplied. Exodus 1:8 (NIV) Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt. 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous for us. 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” There was a new Pharaoh, and the name Joseph meant nothing to him. The new Pharaoh had no understanding of his own Egyptian history. He did not know the virtuous story of Joseph, how he was a man of God, with a gifting of dreams and leadership, and how he saved the lives of many and grew the riches of Egypt. This Pharaoh did not even recognize the name Joseph. Exodus 1:11 (NIV) So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh. Slaves in Egypt The people of Israel became slaves. They were mistreated and brutally oppressed. They were forced to build monuments to false Egyptian gods. How could this happen? They were the people of promise. #1 We can't ignore that the brothers sold Joseph into slavery into Egypt, and that this terrible act ended up enslaving all of them. If you cause destruction for others, destruction often comes to you.If you lie about others, it is amazing how liars often lie about you as well.If you bless others, it won't be long to you see blessing flow to you. NOT KARMA – but the law of Sowing and Reaping… the law of planting seed and then harvesting exactly what you planted. #2 God had already told Abraham that his children would become slaves in Egypt for 400 years. On the same night that Abraham received the cutting of the covenant… Genesis 15:12 (NIV) As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.  Slaves in Egypt They were slaves in Egypt, but it was not a surprise to God. God already knew they would be in Egypt, and God already had a plan to get them out. God already has a plan!   Because these Israelite slaves kept multiplying, the Pharoah ordered the killing of baby boys. The pharaoh thought that one day these boys might grow up to handle a sword and overthrow his reign. So, the Pharoah ordered that all baby boys found, would be thrown into the river Nile. Exodus 2 talks about a mother who had a baby boy and tried to hide him from the guards. She was able to hide Moses for three months, but sensed she could no longer hide him. She does a strange thing.  -She builds a small ark – like Noah's Ark.  -She puts the baby in the ark, and then she puts the ark into the Nile. No where does it say that God told her to do this… Perhaps God gave her the idea… or perhaps she just prayed that God would somehow rescue her son. Someone found the baby in the ark floating along the Nile riverbank. It was Pharaoh's daughter. The sister of this baby had been watching the ark from a distance, and she runs up to the Egyptian princess and says, “Would you like me to find a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby for you?”

Why have you let the boys live?”19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”20 So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.”

Therefore I have brought him before you all, and especially before you, King Agrippa, so that, after we have examined him, I may have something to write. 27 For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to indicate the charges against him.” Paul's Defense Before Agrippa 26 So Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense: 2 “I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am going to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews, 3 especially because you are familiar with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently. 4 “My manner of life from my youth, spent from the beginning among my own nation and in Jerusalem, is known by all the Jews. 5 They have known for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that according to the strictest party of our religion I have lived as a Pharisee. 6 And now I stand here on trial because of my hope in the promise made by God to our fathers, 7 to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly worship night and day. Jesus Heals a Man with an Unclean Demon 31 And he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the Sabbath, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word possessed authority. 33 And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 “Ha!2 What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37 And reports about him went out into every place in the surrounding region. Jesus Heals Many 38 And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's house. Does God get angry? We know he does—everyone has heard about the wrath of God—but, you know, I think it’s fair to say that a lot of people don’t see what God has to be angry about. When they read scriptures about the wrath of God, they shiver a little, but they really don’t understand. They either think of God as an irascible tyrant, or they just don’t believe he is really all that angry.Between the movies The Ten Commandments and Prince of Egypt, everyone knows how the death of the firstborn in Egypt was the means God used to finally force Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. But someone asked me recently why God had to kill the firstborn of Egypt just to get the Israelites out of there? After all, he is God, isn’t he? Couldn’t he have found a better way to do that? The kids hadn’t done anything, had they? No, they hadn’t. And so it might be important to understand what actually happened—to understand what the basis of the anger of God might be. The movie-makers were troubled by it. It’s obvious by the way they tried, in their own way, to make sense of it—by having Pharaoh pronounce judgement upon himself…which really doesn’t match the Bible. So why don’t we try to understand what’s going on here.7 And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:10 Come, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there come upon us any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so escape out of the land.11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.13 And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor:14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, in which they made them serve, was with rigor.Exodus 1:7–14 KJ2000For us, this is just so many words on paper. I am sorry, I lack the powers of description to impress upon your mind what this was like. To get a grip on it, read a book like Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankel. It is a description of the Nazi’s use of slave labor in WWII. And the Egyptians did not make the Israelites slaves for a few years, like the Nazis. They held them generation after generation. We live so well, even the poorest of us, that we cannot grasp the degradation and death that is inseparable from this kind of slavery. We have little idea of the dehumanizing effect of it, not only on the slaves, but also on the masters. It turns the slaves into animals and the masters into monsters. But as we continue in the Book of Exodus, we’ll see that the diminution of human life was about to become even worse.

Monday, 25 April 2022   This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live. Acts 7:19   Stephen just referred to “another king” who “arose who did not know Joseph.” He now continues referring to that king, saying, “This man dealt treacherously with our people.” Here, Stephen uses a word found only this one time in Scripture, katasophizomai. It is a compound verb coming from kata (bring down) and sophizó (make wise). As such, it signifies to deal craftily with or to act subtly.   This is a reference to the treatment of Israel as is first noted in Exodus 1 –   “Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, ‘Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; 10 come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.'” Exodus 1:8-10   Stephen next says, “and oppressed our forefathers.” That is certainly what is next stated in the Exodus narrative –   “Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. 13 So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. 14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.” Exodus 1:11-14   In this state of oppression, Stephen next explicitly describes at least a portion of their treatment with the horrifying words, “making them expose their babies, so that they might not live.”   An attack against the male babies was first noted in the ongoing narrative of Exodus –   “Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; 16 and he said, ‘When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.'” Exodus 1:15, 16   That directive from Pharaoh took an unusual turn and was not effective at meeting his goals, and so he made a command which was intended to reduce the number of Hebrews to a manageable level –   “So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, ‘Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.'” Exodus 1:22   The narrative, as given by Stephen, has carefully followed the words of Exodus 1, revealing the progression of what happened at that time.   Life application: What is unstated by Stephen, but which is something that would have been known to every Israelite, even from their earliest days as the parents talked about their history, is what is said about why the first attempt to reduce the male population failed. That is recorded in Exodus 1 as well –   “But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, ‘Why have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?' 19 And the midwives said to Pharaoh, ‘Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women; for they are lively and give birth before the midwives come to them.' 20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. 21 And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.” Exodus 1:17-21   Stephen skipped right over this, and yet by doing so it would have been its own reminder of the events to those he stood before. By simply recalling a story, the memory of the story would come to mind. In not mentioning this portion of it, it would surely have highlighted it in the minds of those who heard. It is in our nature to fill in the blanks of such things.   As this is so, it would be a reminder that non-Hebrews had been obedient to the inner moral standard placed in humans by God. They had not committed such a wicked act by being disobedient to the king's edict. This would be an appeal, all by itself, to have the council consider their own wicked deeds by ignoring the words and actions of Christ and then, later, the obvious signs and wonders that have come through the apostles and which have been done in the name of Jesus.   Sometimes, what is left unstated is as poignant as what is openly stated. It is a good tool for each of us to consider. Ecclesiastes 5:2 says, “let your words be few.” It is good advice to remember before God and man. The few words we speak should carry weight, and the words we refrain from speaking can be just as heavy.   Lord God Almighty, help us to be wise in our speech, carefully considering everything we have to say, and only speaking out that which is wholesome, helpful, and pleasing in Your sight. It is so easy for us to allow our tongues to go beyond that which is proper, so help us in this Lord! For sure, we need it. Amen.

Wednesday, 13 April 2022   ‘And the nation to whom they will be in bondage I will judge,' said God, ‘and after that they shall come out and serve Me in this place.' Acts 7:7   The previous verse referred to the dwelling of Israel in a foreign land, being brought into bondage, and the time frame – four hundred years – in which this would occur. With that stated, Stephen now continues quoting the Lord, saying, “And the nation to whom they will be in bondage.”   This is referring to Egypt. Approximately half of the period referred to will be in Egypt. And for a period of that time while in Egypt, they were brought into bondage –   “Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, ‘Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; 10 come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.' 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. 13 So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. 14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.” Exodus 1:8-14   As can be seen, the bondage was not the entire span of four hundred years. Only a part of the time was spent in Egypt. Further, only a part of the time in Egypt was a time of bondage. With the reference understood, Stephen's words continue, quoting God and saying of this nation, “I will judge,' said God.”   That is explicitly stated in Genesis 15 –   “Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then He said to Abram: ‘Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.'” Genesis 15:12-16   So far, as long as the proper reference is understood, the words of Stephen have followed the narrative logically and without any real difficulty. But, as with the previous verse, there is debate about the next words. Stephen finishes verse 7 saying, “and after that they shall come out and serve Me in this place.”   It is not uncommon for scholars to change the reference here from Abraham and Canaan to Moses and Mount Sinai. This is because Stephen's words closely match the words of Exodus when Moses spoke with the Lord on Sinai –   “So He said, ‘I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.'” Exodus 3:12   This is problematic, however, because the reference immediately returns to Abraham in Stephen's next words of verse 7:8. As such, this is not speaking of Moses and Mount Sinai at all. Rather, it is still referring to the conversation between the Lord and Abraham. That is found later in Genesis 15 –   “And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. 18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: ‘To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— 19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'” Genesis 15:17-21   By the Lord giving the land to Abraham's descendants after they are brought out of Egypt, it implies that they will serve the Lord in Canaan (“this place”), rather than on Sinai (“this mountain”). Stephen's terminology varies from both Genesis 15 and Exodus 3. As such, determining which is the proper reference must be done apart from direct quotes. In this case, the reference being Abraham has not changed, and Stephen's words – though not a direct quote – are implied in (and fully supported by) the text.   Life application: There are difficulties in Scripture that are easy to simply pass over with the most expedient explanation. We hear it, it sounds ok, and so we move on. But this only confuses the narrative. Thus, it is better to consider that the first, and easiest, explanation may not be the correct one. Unless the issue is clear and without any controversy, we should consider all of the options we can think of or refer to.   By doing this, we will keep things in their proper context. As noted above, Abraham was the reference in the text, and Abraham will continue to be the reference in the text. Thus, contemplating the difficulty in the intervening words, and considering them from Stephen's perspective, will eventually lead to what was on his mind.   On the other hand, there was a difficulty in the previous verse where both Canaan and Egypt were being referred to, while certain words only applied to Egypt. Then, in this verse, only Egypt is the reference. As such, it is expedient to just say, “everything is referring to Egypt.” However, in doing this, the timeline of the actual Genesis narrative is then completely botched up.   Real care needs to be taken concerning this precious word. Let us be willing to spend the time to make sure that what we are presenting is actually properly aligned with what God has already presented.   Glorious God, Your word is big, difficult at times, and filled with things that take a lot of mental exertion to figure out. But it is worth the effort. At the end of the day, may we say, “I have done my very best to properly and rightly divide this sacred treasure.” To Your glory! Amen.

Hoy en día, los padres están involucrándose más en la educación de sus hijos porque se han levantado personas que quieren introducir ideas radicales que intentan robar la inocencia de nuestros hijos. Como padres debemos asistir a las reuniones de escuela, revisar el currículum de educación, y hacer sacrificios por cuidar la mente y el alma de nuestros hijos. El enemigo quiere destruirlos desde temprana edad. Cuidemos a los más vulnerables. Oremos por dirección para poder tomar las mejores decisiones. We must respect the authorities and rulers to the maximum; we must always show respect and subjection but we must not be filled with fear when laws are raised against our convictions.Nowadays, parents are getting more involved in their children's education because people have risen up who want to introduce radical ideas that try to steal the innocence of our children. As parents we must attend school meetings, review the education curriculum, and make sacrifices to care for our children's minds and souls. The enemy wants to destroy them from an early age. Let's take care of the most vulnerable.Pray for direction to make the best decisions. Educating our children at home about what is good and bad, right and wrong, moral and immoral.Find books and lectures on the internet about any topic that concerns you. Look for internet pages like "Focus On The Family", where you will find free material to stay informed on current issues.We are living times where the spiritual war is being fought in the intellect, in education. Exodus 1:8 NLTSo the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king. They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king. Captive No More When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, “If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Exodus 13:17-18 NLT Phase one of deliverance is trusting the direction of the deliverer. The LORD went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. And the LORD did not remove the pillar of cloud or pillar of fire from its place in front of the people. Exodus 13:21-22 NLT Order the Israelites to turn back and camp by Pi-hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. Camp there along the shore, across from Baal-zephon. Exodus 14:1-2 NLT The process of freedom and restoration requires a path picked by God not by you. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV - GOD said to Moses: Why cry out to me? Speak to the Israelites. Order them to get moving. Exodus 14:15 MSG Hold your staff high and stretch your hand out over the sea: Split the sea! The Israelites will walk through the sea on dry ground. Meanwhile I'll make sure the Egyptians keep up their stubborn chase. I'll use Pharaoh and his entire army, his chariots and horsemen, to put my Glory on display so that the Egyptians will realize that I am GOD. Exodus 14:16-18 MSG Then the angel of God, who had been leading the people of Israel, moved to the rear of the camp. The pillar of cloud also moved from the front and stood behind them. The cloud settled between the Egyptian and Israelite camps. As darkness fell, the cloud turned to fire, lighting up the night. But the Egyptians and Israelites did not approach each other all night.
