LESSON 166 I Am Entrusted With The Gifts Of God.All things are given you. God's trust in you is limitless. He knows His Son. He gives without exception, holding nothing back that can contribute to your happiness. And yet, unless your will is one with His, His gifts are not received. But what would make you think there is another will than His?Here is the paradox that underlies the making of the world. This world is not the Will of God, and so it is not real. Yet those who think it real must still believe there is another will, and one that leads to opposite effects from those He wills. Impossible indeed; but every mind that looks upon the world and judges it as certain, solid, trustworthy and true believes in two creators; or in one, himself alone. But never in one God.The gifts of God are not acceptable to anyone who holds such strange beliefs. He must believe that to accept God's gifts, however evident they may become, however urgently he may be called to claim them as his own, is to be pressed to treachery against himself. He must deny their presence, contradict the truth, and suffer to preserve the world he made. Here is the only home he thinks he knows. Here is the only safety he believes that he can find. Without the world he made is he an outcast; homeless and afraid. He does not realize that it is here he is afraid indeed, and homeless, too; an outcast wandering so far from home, so long away, he does not realize he has forgotten where he came from, where he goes, and even who he really is.Yet in his lonely, senseless wanderings, God's gifts go with him, all unknown to him. He cannot lose them. But he will not look at what is given him. He wanders on, aware of the futility he sees about him everywhere, perceiving how his little lot but dwindles, as he goes ahead to nowhere. Still he wanders on in misery and poverty, alone though God is with him, and a treasure his so great that everything the world contains is valueless before its magnitude. He seems a sorry figure; weary, worn, in threadbare clothing, and with feet that bleed a little from the rocky road he walks. No one but has identified with him, for everyone who comes here has pursued the path he follows, and has felt defeat and hopelessness as he is feeling them. Yet is he really tragic, when you see that he is following the way he chose, and need but realize Who walks with him and open up his treasures to be free? This is your chosen self, the one you made as a replacement for reality. This is the self you savagely defend against all reason, every evidence, and all the witnesses with proof to show this is not you. You heed them not. You go on your appointed way, with eyes cast down lest you might catch a glimpse of truth, and be released from self-deception and set free. You cower fearfully lest you should feel Christ's touch upon your shoulder, and perceive His gentle hand directing you to look upon your gifts. How could you then proclaim your poverty in exile? He would make you laugh at this perception of yourself. Where is self-pity then? And what becomes of all the tragedy you sought to make for him whom God intended only joy?Your ancient fear has come upon you now, and justice has caught up with you at last. Christ's hand has touched your shoulder, and you feel that you are not alone. You even think the miserable self you thought was you may not be your Identity. Perhaps God's Word is truer than your own. Perhaps His gifts to you are real. Perhaps He has not wholly been outwitted by your plan to keep His Son in deep oblivion, and go the way you chose without your Self.God's Will does not oppose. It merely is. It is not God you have imprisoned in your plan to lose your Self. He does not know about a plan so alien to His Will. There was a need He did not understand, to which He gave an Answer. That is all. And you who have this Answer given you have need no more of anything but This. Now do we live, for now we cannot die. The wish for death is answered, and the sight that looked upon it now has been replaced by vision which perceives that you are not what you pretend to be. One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive yourself as lonely and afraid.Yet He reminds you still of one thing more you had forgotten. For His touch on you has made you like Himself. The gifts you have are not for you alone. What He has come to offer you, you now must learn to give. This is the lesson that His giving holds, for He has saved you from the solitude you sought to make in which to hide from God. He has reminded you of all the gifts that God has given you. He speaks as well of what becomes your will when you accept these gifts, and recognize they are your own.The gifts are yours, entrusted to your care, to give to all who chose the lonely road you have escaped. They do not understand they but pursue their wishes. It is you who teach them now. For you have learned of Christ there is another way for them to walk. Teach them by showing them the happiness that comes to those who feel the touch of Christ, and recognize God's gifts. Let sorrow not tempt you to be unfaithful to your trust.Your sighs will now betray the hopes of those who look to you for their release. Your tears are theirs. If you are sick, you but withhold their healing. What you fear but teaches them their fears are justified. Your hand becomes the giver of Christ's touch; your change of mind becomes the proof that who accepts God's gifts can never suffer anything. You are entrusted with the world's release from pain.Betray it not. Become the living proof of what Christ's touch can offer everyone. God has entrusted all His gifts to you. Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. Such is your mission now. For God entrusts the giving of His gifts to all who have received them. He has shared His joy with you. And now you go to share it with the world.- Jesus Christ in ACIM
Day 40 - What's in Your Toolbox Daniel 1:1-20 God gave Daniel and his friends knowledge, understanding, and wisdom ten times greater than their peers—what has He placed in your toolbox? “What do you bring to the table that adds value—not just to the church, but to the world?” Perhaps God is calling you to the intersection of marketplace and ministry to be a light in spaces where others won't go. So be Daniel—uncompromising, unwavering, and let your light shine in a world that desperately needs a new perspective. The Power of Boundaries & Integrity What are some boundaries you need to set in order to protect your purpose? Identifying & Using Your Gifts (Your “Toolbox”) What do you bring to the table that adds value—not just to the church, but to the world? How would you answer this question?
Joseph's brothers went to Egypt because of a famine. We know that their “going to Egypt” was part of God's plan, even though God generally warned his people about assimilating into any of the cultures around them. Perhaps God knew they were better off being in Egypt as a people to themselves than being in […] The post Joseph's Brothers Come to Egypt appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church - Gladys VA.
This week as we look at finding stability in a season of instability, this is never going to truly come when we keep trying to avoid loneliness by just filling the void with a person. Jumping into relationships when God is not involved or we are not ready just become major distractions that keep us from growing deep roots and getting our lives built on what we talked about yesterday, the Rock that survives the storms. So often we have to work on creating a good defense before we can have a solid offense. Or here's another metaphor—we have to pull some weeds before we can plant some flowers.Today, I'm going to read a longer passage. I want you to listen to the spirit of what Paul is teaching as much as the actual words he says. But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don't get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people's hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil's trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. (NLT) As I have asked you before here, as I read, did any phrase or sentence jump out at you? Did God run his highlighter over any of this?Listen to part of today's passage once again … But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” If you keep yourself pure, … Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don't get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone… (NLT) Is there anything in your life today that is creating instability and you know it's time to pull it out by the roots? Maybe you need some help? Maybe you need some professional help? If today God showed you something, don't wait, don't put it off, do what He told you. Reach up, reach out, reach in, whatever you need to do to make things right for your life.Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I give You what You placed on my heart right now. I need Your help. Help me to also get the help I need from others to steady my life. Show me what to do. I need Your answers. As above, so below.”
Send us a textIs there any harm with a white lie? What about not wanting to hurt someone's feelings? How do we handle situations which seem morally ambiguous when it comes to truth telling. The Bible is very clear about telling lies. God hates it. Lying goes against God's nature, something He simply does not do. The father of all lies is the devil, the deceiver. Yet we have all told a lie, to save our skins, or to delay an outcome due to fear. Why can't we tell lies to not hurt people's feelings? What if we boldly spoke to truth with no regard to kindness and gentleness. That seems to be the choice of some — you get the truth whether you want it or not! However, that doesn't edify. Everything we do must be for building each other up. Speaking the truth is important, as the tongue emits evils which stem from our heart. We are called to be changed to righteousness, to put away false and perverse things. It is true that there were characters of the Old Testament who lied to evil authorities and were praised for their faith toward God and His people. Perhaps God's grace will abound if you face those moments in your life. Jesus can read our hearts, and stands as an advocate for those who follow after Him. =====Searching for answers to life's questions? Need help finding a church? Drop us a line. Perhaps you are here today, and you've failed to follow through in the past on something God has called you or even your family to. Perhaps God, in His providence, has brought you here today to reveal to you that He is a God of the second chance. As he gave the descendants of Saul another opportunity, in the same way, He is giving us another opportunity to surrender to God's will and call for our lives. Perhaps today, like Esther, who heard God's invitation through her uncle Mordecai, you too hear His voice speaking to you through this morning's message. As did Esther, will you also submit to God's call and let Him use you in a way that will make an eternal impact that will not only be a blessing to you but also impact the people around you whom He cares for? Jim Elliott wrote: He is no fool who gives, what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. For when you die the things of life you cannot take with you. But if you give your life to God. You will gain something you cannot lose, you will gain rewards in heaven, you will gain eternal life, you will also have the opportunity to gain those around you who will come to know God and again you are setting up yourself not treasures on earth were moth and rust corrupt, but treasures in heaven were moth and rust can never corrupt.

In today's episode, Hunter, your host and Bible reading coach, takes us on a transformative journey through the scriptures on this 53rd day of our year-long Bible exploration. We'll begin with the directives for assembling and moving the Israelite community as detailed in Numbers chapters 10 and 11. We'll witness the challenges faced by Moses as he leads the Israelites and confronts their complaints. Then, we'll turn to the heartfelt prayers and declarations of faith found in Psalm 27. Finally, we delve into Mark's gospel, chapter one, where we encounter the powerful ministry of Jesus, his call to the disciples, and his miraculous works among the people. Through today's readings, Hunter guides us to see how Jesus desires to draw all people into a loving relationship, immersing us in the life and love shared with the Father and the Spirit. Join us as we explore these scriptures, offering prayers for ourselves, our families, and the world, and discover the joy of the gospel in our lives today. Let us dive into the Word and prayer together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Joshua is not too sure about these 70 people who've received the spirit of God the same way that Moses has received it. But there's no question in Moses' mind, he wanted all God's people to have what he had. Jesus says in Luke's gospel that the spirit of God was upon him to preach the good news to the poor. In the power of the spirit, he's bringing the message of life to the whole world because Jesus wants all people to have what he has. That's what we see here in Mark. He's talking to fishermen, to the sick, to the poor, to the demon possessed, to lepers. He's announcing it to the whole world regardless of who they are. In fact, Mark tells us that the multitudes were gathered at the door ready to receive healing, deliverance, freedom from Jesus. And he's doing all this because he wants you and me and the whole world to have what he has. The loving relationship that he shares with his father. Inclusion into the very life of God. This is what he means when he says, good news, people. The kingdom of God is here. It means Jesus has come to give not just men like Moses or the 70 elders a glimpse or a taste of union with God. He's come to completely embrace us, to immerse us in the triune life of God, in the life and love that is shared with the father and the spirit. So the good news for us today is that Jesus has done this and that you have been enveloped into his very life. Jesus says, I am the vine. You are the branches. Because Jesus came, he took on flesh. He was baptized in the Jordan River, which is a picture of his baptism into our humanity. And there he assumed all human flesh. He took upon himself the human race upon his shoulders, and he was crucified on our behalf in order to free us from the curse of sin, death, and the grave, in order to heal us and make us new. And he did all of this because he wants you to have what he has. He wants you to know his love. And today, perhaps we can see that a little bit more. Perhaps God will use these scriptures that we've just read, that we might live in the joy of the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. But she finds new Uses For Old Organ Pipes.A series in 17 parts, by Blacksheep. Listen to the Podcast at Steamy Stories. The third Sunday of Lent had arrived. Reverend Morris was counting down the days until Easter in the same way a prisoner counts down the days until their release. He was dreading today's morning Eucharist after the embarrassment of last week."I still can't believe I was stupid enough to mix up that erotic story with my sermon!" He exclaimed. "Why did I print it out?""Ah relax Simon. It was a fantastic first attempt, and that vicar from Manchester seemed to enjoy it!" Jenna replied, making herself a coffee."Yes I know but, well I suppose you're right. Nobody made a complaint. I'm just glad the youth & children were already dismissed to their classes. I'd have had a load of outraged parents begging for me to be defrocked!""No damage done," Jenna smiled. "And you truly do have hidden talents. I had no idea you were so good at writing erotica. You should try it again sometime!"This Sunday's service passed without incident, and most of the congregation were no doubt disappointed that the vicar's sermon had returned to its familiar, boring self. Afterwards, Gordon peered over the top of the organ and smiled as he noticed Jenna."Morning!" He said."Hello Gordon!" Jenna replied. "How are you getting on with, you know?" She winked."Ah that," he laughed. "You weren't kidding when you said use lots of lube, were you? It's fun, but," Gordon lowered his voice. "It doesn't match up to you. I miss our organ lessons.""Me too. We're halfway through Lent. Stay strong. You'll get through it!""I'll try my best! Oh, are these of any interest to you or Simon?" He handed her two tin organ pipes, one smaller than the other. "I know you're into arts and crafts. Thought you might have some use for these. Some of the old pipes have been replaced.""These are nice!" Jenna said, holding up the pipes. "Great condition.""They make great wall ornaments. I see loads of them for sale on eBay. Some go for really high prices.""I'll see if I can get creative. It'll be a fun spring project for me. Thanks Gordon! Oh before I forget, you couldn't do a favor for a member of the church, could you?""Certainly!""Gladys asked if you could call round and fix a new door handle on her kitchen door. I know you're really good at D I Y; you fitted new wall sockets in the church hall."The organist's face fell. "Um, oh right. Yes. I'm sure I can.""Great! She'll be thrilled. Right, I'd better get going. Simon's taking Christopher out for some father-son time, so I'll be home alone. I'll see if I can get creative with these old organ pipes!"Gordon gulped. The thought of calling round to see Mrs. Wilcox terrified him."My God, the old girl will pounce on me like a lioness ambushing a gazelle!" He noticed the churchwarden heading up the aisle. "Norman! Could you do me a favor?"Jenna arrived back at the vicarage, wondering how to spend the rest of the afternoon. She looked carefully at the two organ pipes, running a finger down the smooth, dull metal."Hmm, this larger one, it could be just the right size!"Up in the bedroom, Jenna lifted her skirt and pulled her panties down to the floor and stepped out of them. Feeling horny, she imagined Gordon walking in and catching her with her legs spread with an organ pipe buried deep in her cunt. The larger pipe measured about 11" long from pointed tip to end of the tapering foot. She remembered what Gordon had told her about organ pipes.Flue pipes are also known as labial pipes. The foot is the bottom portion of the pipe, usually conical. At its base is the toe hole, through which wind enters it."Ooh yeah." Jenna reached between her legs and discovered that she was already dripping wet. She fingered her cunt and clit. Damn, she needed to be filled. She took her time greasing up the organ pipe until it was dripping lubricant."Ah!" Jenna began sliding the pipe into her well-lubed cunt, one leisurely inch at a time. When she'd taken about six inches inside, she began slowly pushing it in and out, coating the pipe with her juices. Her fingers rubbed her clit softly and covered it in her essence. The pressure and speed of her fingers built. She imagined Gordon's thick fingers deep inside her, whilst she lay naked on the organ stool in the church,Jenna wanted more, wanted it harder. She increased her speed and moved the organ pipe in and out faster. Suddenly, her whole body tensed, the sweet feelings of ecstasy were almost torture. She need to come but wanted the pleasure to last longer. She was almost there, almost tipping over the edge of orgasm. She pushed the pipe still deeper into her womanhood, then reached for the smaller one,Norman's SubmissionNorman Winstanley turned into Rosebay Gardens, the quaint little cul-de-sac where Mrs. Wilcox lived."Nice place for old folk," he mused, parking up in front of the small bungalow. He picked up the small tool bag, headed up the drive and knocked on the door.Glancing round, he was amused by the pair of garden gnomes on the front lawn. They were dressed in bondage gear. The front door opened and Mrs. Wilcox appeared. "Oh, hello Norman! What are you doing here?""Here to fix your kitchen door, my dear!" Norman replied. "Gordon sends his apologies but something came up.""Dearie me," the old lady replied, not fooled for a moment. "Oh well, you'll do nicely! Right this way!" She ushered him inside and gave his arse cheeks a squeeze.Norman raised an eyebrow, but ignored her actions. After all, the old bird was eighty-six."God, this feels so amazing!" Jenna gasped as she thrust the small organ pipe up her arsehole. She moaned loudly, her cunt pulsing hard around the larger organ pipe. Her whole body shook with the force of her orgasm."Fuck, yes!" The vicar's wife screamed out as she found a new use for the old organ pipes."Don't forget to polish the sideboard, dearie!" Mrs. Wilcox smiled as Norman entered the living room and brought her a glass of sherry. He was naked apart from a frilly apron."Right you are, Gladys," the churchwarden replied. This was more of a thrill than he ever imagined. And here I was worrying how I'd survive six weeks without sex from the vicar's wife! He thought."Norman!" Mrs. Wilcox snapped. "I asked for a schooner! This glass isn't a schooner! I'm afraid I'll have to discipline you. Turn around at once!"Norman did as she asked and she struck his bare buttocks with a riding crop."Ouch!""You're a very naughty boy!" Mrs. Wilcox said. "What are you?""I'm a very naughty boy!" Norman replied.Jenna Breaks Her Lent Vow, In Order To Aid The Bishop.Bishop George lay in a hospital bed between sleep and vague drowsiness. He was hot, frustrated and uncomfortable. Waiting. Waiting for the nurses to bring him food. Waiting for them to change him. He loathed being dependent on others like this. He'd always gone his own way, not caring whom he offended. Then again he was lucky to be alive, and boredom and frustration were the least of his worries. His leg had been reset, but he was very much troubled by the thought of infection developing.Bishop George closed his eyes and wondered if he'd be well enough to attend the Easter service at St Michael's Church. He'd been looking forward to it for ages, and it was only two weeks away. Reverend Morris had just departed, having spent an hour with him. The visit had lifted the bishop's spirits and he was thankful for the vicar's kind words."That bloody cyclist! He shouldn't have been on the pavement in the first place!"He'd been walking down the street and had been sent flying when a careless cyclist had crashed right into him. His right leg had been broken in three places. It had been a terrible ordeal, but he didn't expect to remain in hospital for long. You were soon booted out these days.Bishop George sighed. He wasn't looking forward to his sister Anne, coming to care for him whilst he recovered. Anne was notoriously bossy.Meanwhile, back at St Michael's Vicarage, Jenna sipped a coffee and idly ran her finger down the cup."Poor George," she said, as Reverend Morris returned from visiting him in the hospital. "You know something, why don't we let him stay with us while he recovers? We have two spare bedrooms, one for when Christopher stays over, but the smaller room would be ideal for George. It's got a foldaway bed."Reverend Morris thought for a moment. "You're absolutely right, Jen. You're a true Christian. The Bishop has been very good to me since I took over at St Michael's. We could provide all the care he needs. Whilst his sister might mean well, she's a rather, fierce individual!""I only met her once. She scared me!" Jenna admitted. The vicar nodded. "Besides, having him staying with us will help keep my mind off, er, you know. I've been struggling recently with what we've given up for Lent."Jenna smiled. "I know Simon. You've done really well. Not much longer now. When Easter comes, He will rise, I'm not just talking about Jesus, by the way,"Reverend Morris bit his lip. "He might be rising already, Oh! I can't wait to have sex again, must restrain myself. Right, I'll go call George, and prepare the spare bedroom for him."The bishop was more than delighted when Reverend Morris arrived to collect him from the hospital, the next day."You're quite sure about this, Simon?" He said as the vicar pushed his wheelchair down the aisle. "I don't want to be a burden to you and Jenna. Busy weeks ahead for you, what with Holy Week and so on. And your son, doesn't he stay over on Fridays?""Think nothing of it, George. We have two spare bedrooms at the vicarage. There's room for everyone. Jenna and I are glad to have you staying with us. It'll be peace of mind knowing that you'll be safe and well-looked after."Bishop George smirked to himself. He was definitely looking forward to perhaps getting some special therapy off Jenna. He remembered the little birthday ceremony he'd taken part in just before Christmas,"Must say, I'm glad to be out of that hospital," he muttered, as he was helped into the car. "The bloke in the bed next to me, he lay there for two hours before someone realized he was dead. Poor sod. I said a few prayers for him.""That's awful," Reverend Morris replied. “But on the bright side, the soul enjoyed a very prompt wake, with no less than the bishop presiding!”George finally chuckled at the realization of his good service.Changing the subject, Simon added; "Well hopefully, you'll find the vicarage a lot more relaxing, and our meals a lot more edible. We both enjoy cooking."He drove out of the hospital car park and headed for the motorway. "The nursing staff said you were a difficult patient." Simon probed."I see. Quite the compliment." Bishop George said. "I'm sure they were exaggerating. Any news from church?" Is Jenna still learning to play the organ?"The traffic noise was loud, as rush hour was approaching."Oh yes! She's made remarkable progress there. Gordon is a fantastic teacher. She's of a good enough standard to stand in for him, on the rare occasions he isn't able to do the Sunday service.""I'm sure," he replied. She is very talented indeed at playing a man's organ too! George thought to himself."Our churchwarden Norman Winstanley has started spending a lot of time helping one of the older members of church around the house. Gladys Wilcox, she's in her eighties, widowed and lives alone. Her grandson helps where he can, but he works full-time so can't be there on weekdays. I can tell Gladys really enjoys having Norman call round. She's a sweet old lass, been at the church before I was even born. Her husband used to play the organ before Gordon took over.""That's nice. Not many want to take the time to help the elderly these days."‘Samaritan' ServicesBishop George soon settled in at the vicarage. The bed was far more comfortable than the one in the hospital."I think I'll be just fine here," he grinned."We're glad to have you here with us, George," Jenna said, as she brought him a cup of tea. Anything you need, don't hesitate to ask.""I wouldn't mind the touch of your healing hands," he whispered in Jenna's ear as she prepared to leave."Oh, no can do, Bishop," Jenna replied. "I've given up sex for Lent! Poor Simon, he's been sleeping in the other spare bedroom ever since Ash Wednesday. It's been a struggle for both of us, but we've stuck to it."Bishop George looked as if his recovery had taken a turn for the worse! On Monday night, Reverend Morris was called to administer last rites to someone at the local hospice, leaving Jenna alone in the house to care for the bishop. As she sat reading something on her phone, she heard him moaning in pain. George was still on opioids, but weaning off. Jenna had just given him his 2nd pill after dinner. He was agonizing for the pill's relief to kick in."Poor George. His leg keeps aching. He must be so miserable. I suppose I could cheer him up a little, but I made a promise." She thought for a moment. "But it's justified if it speeds up his recovery."Bishop George was half-asleep, when he heard Jenna entering his room. She sat down on the chair beside his bed.His eyes shot open as he felt the bedsheet over his groin being lightly pulled down. His heart beat faster. "What, are you doing?""Aiding your recovery."Excitement only increased further as the full reality of the situation dawned on him. Soon, he felt warm fingertips moving up his thigh. Bishop George's heart was pounding."I thought you'd given it up for Lent?""I have, but just this once, I'll make an exception for you. Promise you won't tell my husband? I've put him through so much suffering, denying him the pleasure.""Oh my lips are sealed," Bishop George replied. "Besides, he's as fit as a fiddle. He'll have to suck it up and cope. I've had a terrible trauma. Any help you can provide, you know I'll be beyond grateful, my dear Jenna."He was already semi-erect.Jenna's hand went further, seeking holy treasure. She gently unfastened the restraining snaps of his pajama bottoms and exposed his heated erection.Bishop George put his hands together. "For what I am about to receive, O Lord, make me truly thankful."Jenna gently teased and examined his shaft and foreskin, bending down close to breathe in the heavy, sweaty musk of his balls. Then she took his shaft between thumb and forefinger and begin to pleasure the older man with slow, deliberate, sensuous movements.Unable to remain composed any longer, the bishop murmured. "Oh my God,"Jenna continued to stroke him, experimenting with the rhythm and pressure. After a short while, he felt her lips start to trace up and down his cock, ever so lightly. Starting with his balls, and then moving upwards, she started to apply a series of delicate licks and kisses. Sweet Lord! What joy! It was so slow, so tender and intimate, and he knew at once that this was exactly the kind of healthcare he needed.Bishop George was desperate to release, and Jenna placed her hand reassuringly in his. One long caress of his cock almost made him come. A little precum leaked out, and Jenna gathered it up with her tongue. At last, she took the tip of his cock into her mouth, slowly and carefully. Her warm wet mouth felt incredible, and the bishop couldn't help but cry out in joy. Jenna descended right down to the base of his shaft, completely deep-throating him. Some final, wanton tongue action brought him over the edge, and he could take no more.Bishop George's whole body trembled, as he climaxed and spent."Oh my, Jenna!" He cried as he erupted in a powerful ejaculation. Pulse after pulse of his issue hit the back of her throat. She swallowed it all. The glorious, joyful spurting continued. The vicar's wife continued her masterful manipulations. He fell back on the sweat-drenched pillow, his face gripped by sheer joyful release. Jenna let him recover for a moment and catch his breath. After a short while, he raised his hand and placed it gently against her cheek. Gathering his strength, he heaved himself up and brought her lips to his in a lingering kiss. She responded by slipping her arms around him."Are you feeling better now?" She whispered."Much better! I'll sleep like a log tonight, and I just know I'll be up and walking around in no time!""I'm so relieved that it's only your leg that was injured, George. Thankfully, what matters is still in fine working order."Suddenly, the sound of the front door opening, brought them to their senses."Better get some sleep, George." Jenna whispered, giving him a final kiss. “Oh, George, is it true? Gordon says that the same Greek word that Tyndale translated as ‘communion', is also translated as ‘intercourse'?George was shocked, and marveled. “I think the word is ‘koininia'. And yes, only the context provides the distinction.” They are both conduits for ministering life, aren't they?Jenna beamed. “I've always viewed my sexuality as part of God's providence, and I feel I have a responsibility to not be selfish. Sleep well, my good man."I will, and thanks again for your special worship. And don't worry about breaking your Lentil promise, it was only a little bending of your own pledge, God won't mind. You were aiding my recovery after all," He relaxed and fell into a blissful, drug-aided sleep.Jenna could still taste the bishop's cum on her lips as she headed down the stairs."Ah, Jen! Is everything alright?" Reverend Morris said, hanging his coat up. "I hope George didn't give you too much trouble?""Oh no trouble at all. The old boy is sleeping like a baby."Jenna's Threesome In The Church HallA close encounter with an old, bitter enemy, and a blessed miracle! And Gordon the organist is a big softie deep down,This joyful Eastertideaway with sin and sorrow! My love, the Crucified, has sprung to life this morrow.Had Christ, who once was slain, not burst his three-day prison, our faith had been in vain:but now hath Christ arisen, arisen, arisen;but now has Christ arisen!"On this, the most holiest of days, we celebrate the risen Lord!" Reverend Morris began, as the Easter Sunday service at St Michael's began. As expected, the church was packed, much to the vicar's delight. In the four years he'd been in charge of this humble little parish, Reverend Morris never expected to see such an increase in the congregation. It warmed his heart.Though, he secretly admitted, the fully-stocked pews weren't the only thing making him smile. With the arrival of Easter Sunday, Lent was finally over. His wife's ban on sex had expired. He could hardly wait until this evening, when he and Jenna would finally get some time to themselves.Over at the organ, Gordon was also hoping he'd soon be able to resume giving Jenna "organ lessons.""Look at her, sitting at the front in that floral print dress. She looks every inch the respectable vicar's wife, but the way it clings to her curves, a subtle hint at the delicious raw sexuality underneath," the organist sighed, feeling a stirring in his groin, when he should've been concentrating on the service."Oh God, she's beautiful and I am so bloody horny," Gordon muttered, slipping a hand under his black robe and rubbing himself."Please stand for our hymn, Thine Be the Glory." The vicar announced, and the congregation dutifully did. There were a few awkward coughs and shuffling of feet as the organ remained silent."Our hymn, Thine Be the Glory!" The vicar repeated."Oh!" Gordon spluttered, and slammed his fingers down on the manuals so hard, the entire church seemed to vibrate."Goodness me, he's pounding those pipes," one of the elderly ladies of the congregation muttered. "For the first time in years, I don't need to turn up my hearing aids."After the hymn, the curate took over the reading of the notices. Reverend Morris slipped over to the organ."Bit of a ten on the tension scale there, Gordon!" He whispered. "Having problems with your instrument?" It wasn't the first time the organist had appeared a little distracted during a service."Sorry about that, Vicar, this upper manual does require a bit more pressure these days!"Reverend Morris chuckled. The organist was just as guilty as he was for thinking irreverent thoughts during the service."We may rejoice now that the Lent period has ended.""Aye, I fully intend to," Gordon replied, rearranging his music sheets."You never said what it was that you gave up.""Umm, think it was whiskey. What did you give up for Lent, Vicar?""Err, chocolate." He glanced at Jenna, sat in the front aisle. "I'm going to pig out and eat out a, err, eat a lot of it later."Gordon nodded, as the reverend returned to the pulpit. "He's even worse at lying than I am."The service ended and everyone headed over to the church hall for tea and coffee. Instead of the usual plain biscuits and cake, Reverend Morris had asked everyone to do a "Jacob's Join" and bring some Easter eggs along. There was enough chocolate to fill a room, much to the delight of the younger members of the congregation, who wasted no time in helping themselves."Do help yourselves to some delicious hot cross buns," Jenna smiled, walking around the hall with a tray, and the buns went down a storm with the older folk. After a longer than normal gathering, it was time to clear away the chairs and tables."Where's Norman Winstanley gone? He's usually here to move these tables." Reverend Morris wondered."Oh I have some chores lined up for him so he had to hurry back to my place, Vicar," Mrs. Wilcox said, as she began sweeping the hall.Gordon raised an eyebrow. "Is he your personal slave Gladys? He never seems to be away.""Well you seemed reluctant to fill that particular vacancy dearie, so I had to look elsewhere. I must say, dear Norman has proved a most willing and able subject,"The way she emphasized the words ‘willing and able', it intrigued Gordon. He cast his mind back a few weeks to the embarrassing incident with the fleshlight. The old girl wasn't shy when it came to sucking my cock, but surely she's not doing that on a regular basis to Norman, is she? Norman's never said a word, but he seems to enjoy calling round. Or is it all perfectly innocent and he's just helping her with the housework?"Hello, earth to Gordon," Reverend Morris said. "Could you give Jenna and myself a hand and help us move these folded chairs into the storeroom?""Right you are, Vicar. Sorry, I was miles away.""Daydreaming?" Jenna winked at him."Perhaps."The three of them headed to the far end of the hall and down a corridor, where the storeroom was. Jenna smiled as they went in. Haven't been in here since last October, when I seduced Josh the curate and took his virginity. The room was still as untidy as ever."One of these days, we really must make time to sort this room out," Reverend Morris said. "It's a disgrace and I'm ashamed I've let it get such a mess.Gordon placed the chairs in the corner. "Get Oakwood Road Methodist Church to clear out all their junk first. They've been sharing with us for years. Isn't it about time they got their own storage place?""Hmm, yes. I'll have to have a word with Reverend Ewing."Jenna rearranged some of the box files. "While we're here, we could straighten a few things, argh, there's a massive spider on the wall!""It'll be more scared of you than you are of it," Reverend Morris said."Simon, that doesn't make me feel any better! You know I hate spiders!""Where is the offending arachnid? I'll squash it with my shoe.""You'll do no such thing, Gordon," the vicar interrupted. "It's one of God's creatures and it's Easter Sunday. Let it live. See look, it's scuttled into the air vent up there. It's gone. Nothing to worry about, Jen.Amidst the uproar over the spider, none of them noticed or heard the storeroom door being pulled shut and locked."Now the fun begins," a voice sniggered, opening an app on an iPhone."Right, well I've had enough re-arranging for today," Gordon said. "It's time for another cuppa and a rest." He tried the door. "Hey, what? This door is locked!""What?" Reverend Morris rushed over. "I don't believe it, how is it locked? It can't be locked without a key.""Some silly bugger's gone and locked the door without realizing we're in here!" Gordon groaned. "I bet its old Jack Bradley, thinks of himself as caretaker for the church hall. Daft sod is always locking up and forgetting to turn the lights off. I really think Norman should be given the job of locking up in future.""Wait, so we're trapped in here?" Jenna said."For the moment, yes. Oh don't worry, it's not like a bank vault or anything. We won't run out of air. I'll just phone Josh the curate. I know he keeps a spare set of keys." Reverend Morris reached in his pocket. "My smartphone, where is it? Oh damn, I left it in the car. I always do that when it's the Sunday Eucharist. I have a phone-free morning. It's my little rule.""Really helpful, Rev," the organist groaned. "Don't you have a hotline to God 24 7? Maybe a prayer or two will unlock the door. Luckily, I have my smartphone on me. He pulled it out of his pocket and swiped the screen."Oh.""Problem?""Um, looks like the battery's dead. I swear there was 5% charge still on it but guess I was wrong.""Boys, worry not. I have my phone, and it's always fully charged," Jenna said, lifting her smartphone from her handbag. "Ta-dah. Fully charged." She called the curate. After a long period of ringing, it went to voicemail."This must be the first time ever that Josh's phone has gone to voicemail," Reverend Morris said. "The lad needs that phone of his surgically removing."Okay well for whatever reason, he's not picking up. He could be driving. I've left a message. We'll just have to wait. But what's the rush to leave?" Jenna grinned. "If you ask me, we should make the most of our time here."The vicar and organist looked at each other. "What do you mean, Jen?"That familiar naughtiness appeared on her face. "Well you both know I gave up sex for Lent, right?"They cleared their throats. "Yes.""Lent's over. Let's have some fun.""Jenna, what are you suggesting?" Reverend Morris spluttered."I think your lovely wife is suggesting a threesome, Vicar." Gordon replied, fully up for it."How about it? It's nice to share, yes? Like we all did when it was my birthday?"Reverend Morris was his usual reserved self at first, but there was no denying, like Gordon, he was as horny as a rutting stag."Well, um, there are no security cameras in here, are there?""As if," Gordon laughed. "There's nothing worth nicking in here, apart from old furniture and dusty hymn books. No cams, but there is rising damp on that lower left wall."Jenna began unbuttoning her dress. "Naturally, my dear husband gets to go first. After all he is my holy man. You don't mind, you do Gordon?" Jenna then laid on her back, across a long narrow banquet table."Oh, not at all," the organist said, rubbing his crotch. "Don't keep me waiting too long though, eh? The Wurlitzer is already rising,"The sinister scandalIn the passenger seat of a parked car, the unknown person with the iPhone stared at the screen and observed the antics in the storeroom, thanks to the hidden cam that had been installed."Well I never. I knew there was something going on with the organist and the vicar's wife! Looks like the vicar himself is prepared to overlook some of the Ten Commandments. Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery? Thou Shalt Not Covet?""Hopefully it'll be the downfall of that little tart once and for all," the driver of the car replied. "I've never forgiven her for bringing her filth and depravity to this church a year ago. Marries the vicar, whilst carrying on with the organist on the side. She managed to break up my marriage, and I can't wait to send this footage to the tabloids.""Oh Patricia, you're not going to go that far are you, dearie?" Jenna's a lovely girl really. I thought we were just going to have a bit of fun. That's why I asked my grandson to install the camera and set up this app thing so we could watch. I wanted to make the organist sweat a little."Mrs. Norris narrowed her eyes. "I haven't set foot in that church since the vicar married her. This sordid carry-on can't be allowed to continue!""Oh look, things are getting a wee bit steamy in there!" Mrs. Wilcox replied, gawping at the smartphone. "Good heavens, my glasses are steaming up! Look where Gordon's putting his tongue. He's such a skilled organist,""Disgusting behavior," Mrs. Norris fumed. Yet she continued to watch intently.Gordon opened his mouth again, and ran it from Jenna's belly to her chin. She began moaning. On the next lick the organist started even lower, right on her clit. Jenna moaned loudly as his tongue slowly climbed up her, stopping briefly at her chest. He went back to between her thighs again, and then he began fingering her cunt. Jenna began to moan loudly as she climaxed. When she glanced up at him, she noticed he was fully aroused. She rolled over, onto her belly while he dropped his trousers and underpants, and presented his large, engorged member to her."Did you miss my organ pipe?""God yes!"The organist's entire body shuddered under Jenna's touch. With that, she propped herself up on her elbows on one edge of the table. He ass hung over the opposite edge. She grasped his cock with both hands and began rubbing hard, enjoying the reaction she was getting from him. She decided to take it a step further, and started to lick his cock, all the while continuing jerking him off. She licked up and down the thick shaft and finally stopped at the head. Precum oozed from the tip. With one fluid motion, she deep throated the head of his penis as far as she could. Gordon cried out in joy."Fuck yes, I've missed this so much!"At the same time, Reverend Morris unzipped his trousers and approached behind his wife."Whilst you are playing the organist's organ, I shall now enter your Holy Temple, which has been closed off to me since the start of Lent."He pressed his member against her cunt. Jenna gasped as her husband applied pressure, and slid his cock into her."I've missed your Holy Rod, my love."He slowly thrust in and out of her, which drove her wild. She reached one hand down to rub her clit, which stimulated the already overwhelming pleasure. simon sped up his thrusting, his cock ramming against her cervix. She moaned. A few minutes later Jenna bucked harder and faster as she felt her orgasm build up. Reverend Morris did the same as his cock twitched in her."Ah, oh God, yes!" The vicar's wife threw her head back and screamed as she came. Her cunt walls contracted tightly around her husband's cock as her love juices leaked out of her. His own orgasm hit shortly after, and he shot a huge load of warm seed deep into her."Bloody hell," Gordon gasped. That had to be the most intense orgasm he'd ever seen Jenna have. He felt a brief moment of doubt, fearing he wouldn't be able to match the pleasure her husband had given her. Something tugged at his heart, a nagging ache. He shrugged it off, but it remained. He didn't want to think about the fact he was starting to fall deeply in love with this red-haired beauty who'd seduced him so skillfully last September, with a blowjob whilst he sat on the organ stool. This was always meant to be just a bit of no-strings naughty fun, he thought to himself. But it's gone way beyond that. I never imagined she'd have this effect on me,Reverend Morris gently pulled out of her and Jenna rolled over & sat up, cum oozing from her throbbing womanhood."Don't keep Gordon waiting, Jen," he whispered to her. "He needs more than a quick blow of the organ pipe."She nodded, kissing him. "I won't. I intend to make this just as special for him as it was for you."Gordon brightened up. "What, you mean I'm getting the full Monty?""I really enjoy that organ pipe of yours inside me, Gordon," she winked. He was more than happy with sloppy seconds.Sitting him down in one of the metal folding chairs, Jenna straddled him, and in one motion, plunged herself down on his hard cock. His hands found her breasts, and she squirmed on his lap deliciously. Gordon began to thrust himself into her, slowly at first, increasing speed gradually, until they were fucking for all they were worth. All the pent-up desire that Jenna had been holding inside throughout Lent, all the desire for this older man, was unleashed. Much as she loved her husband, she'd also had a thing for Gordon, way more than all the other men of the church she'd bedded. He was special. Those daddy vibes. They'd never gone away. When he paused for breath, she pulled him up & onto his back on a table and mounted him again. Ever so slowly, she undulated on his cock, and, eyes closed, fingered her clit while he moaned beneath her at the sight. When she started to shake and groan, the sight became too much for the organist and he knew he was joining her, whether he wanted to or not. With a yell, Gordon grabbed her hips and shot spurt after spurt of thick cum into the goddess above him."Wow, now that's the kind of worship that truly comes from the heart!" Reverend Morris said, amazed at the organist's stamina. "That's what I like to see; Jenna fully satisfied!""Oh Gordon," Jenna sighed, when they'd finally recovered. She kissed him softly on the lips. "That was wonderful." She noticed he had tears in his eyes. "Hey, are you alright?""Never better Jen," he mumbled. "Bit dusty in this room, eh? Think it's irritating my eyes a bit.""We're the two luckiest men in the world aren't we?" Reverend Morris said, sensing Gordon's awkwardness. "To be both loved by this amazing woman. God has truly smiled on us. It's all part of His plan.""And I love you both," Jenna said, slipping her arms round the two of them.Gordon felt himself filling up, but he held it together.Gladys watches"Utterly vile," Mrs. Norris cringed, still watching on the iPhone with Mrs. Wilcox. "All three of them should be cast out of the church and prosecuted.""Prosecuted?" The old lady replied. "Dearie, I think what we've just witnessed is a very modern love story. Gordon is in love with Jenna. Jenna loves him. The vicar knows that she loves them both.""How the hell can you say that? He's a dirty old man if you ask me.""When you're as old as I am, you just know these things. Human nature's a fascinating thing. And you're never too old to have fun either. I'm so glad that Norman Winstanley called round to fix my kitchen door!""So you're not going to give me the footage?" Mrs. Norris snapped."No dearie, I'm not. I'm deleting this video right now.""No don't!"But it was too late. The recording on the phone was deleted, along with the app. "I've remotely shut down the camera in the storeroom too," the old lady smiled. "I'll get my grandson Dwaine to remove and destroy it.""You treacherous old bag. You tricked me!" Mrs. Norris yelled, eyes bulging behind her horn-rimmed glasses. There was a knock on the car window and she almost jumped out of her skin. The hulking figure of Dwaine appeared."Everything alright, Gran?""Oh fine, dear," she said, getting out of the car. "I'm ready to go home now. It's been a rather eventful church service! But first, I need to pop into the church hall. I think I've forgotten to switch off a light, "Her plans to destroy Jenna thwarted, Mrs. Norris accepted defeat and drove off, away from St. Michael's church forever.Jenna, Reverend Morris and Gordon had just finished getting dressed when the door of the storeroom was unlocked."Oh Vicar! I'm so sorry! How careless of me! I'd finished sweeping up and thought you'd all gone home. Jack left me in charge of locking up. Blame it on a senior moment. I had no idea you three were in the storeroom!" The four of them walking into the hallway."No worries, Gladys, there's no harm done. We were only in there half an hour."As they all headed out of the hall, Josh the curate came rushing inside, out of breath."Jenna! I just got your message! I'd just driven Bishop George home when I read it. Oh I'm glad you all got out of there!""Not the end to the Easter service I was expecting, but it's something we can laugh about in years to come!" Reverend Morris said and he turned to Jenna and Gordon and grinned. "Come, let's all go back to the Vicarage and have a drink. Mrs. Wilcox. Your grandson is most welcome to join us too."The vicar, his wife and the organist remained blissfully unaware of how close they'd come to having their passionate threesome revealed to the entire world. Once again, peace and happiness remained at St. Michael's Church, and it seemed Jenna's amazing way with bringing joy to the lives of church men was stronger than ever,One month later"We now we look forward to Ascension tide," Reverend Morris said, a few Sundays after Easter. “The Feast of Pentecost follows.”Jenna returned from the church toilets. She'd been feeling off-color for the past couple of days and now knew why."Simon, I must speak with you and Gordon," she said, as the church began emptying."What's wrong Jen? You don't look too good."Gordon was tidying up his music books and switching off the organ, when the vicar appeared."Jenna has something to tell us," Reverend Morris said. "She says it's very happy, but life-changing news."The organist put down his books immediately. This sounded serious, and he felt his stomach jump. "What's up?""Well you two, how do I break this to you gently? It seems there's been some sort of miracle. My contraceptive pill has failed. I'm pregnant. And, well”Both men's jaws dropped.Gordon spluttered, terrified. He feared his future was in for trouble. He feared his two best friends over this. He feared the gossip. He loved his church and didn't want anything to change. He was barely able to process this information.Simon embraced his wife and beamed. “The child is mine. I take great joy in the arrival of a life. My opportunity to raise a child in a wonderful home, with the wife God has blessed me with. Perhaps God will give us more, in years to come!”Jenna beamed. She turned to Simon and asked; “Simon, have you ever been a godfather?”To be continued.By Blacksheep, for Literotica.
Today we welcome back Mike Abendroth to discuss the complex issue of doubt. What is it? Do Christians suffer bouts of doubt? As much as it can be the carrier of condemnation, it doesn't necessarily need to bring on waves of guilt. Perhaps God has something for us in those hours. The dark night of the soul is something many believers suffer through but due to lack of understanding of deep trials, believers often attempt to grab the bull by the horns and make it stop. It might not be that simple, in light of the means and ends of suffering we all go through. Who are some of the famous doubters in the Bible, and what was Jesus' response? Why do the youth deconstruct and consider their doubts a badge of honor? A hopeful hour with Mike. God brought forth His Son, Jesus Christ, “in the fullness of time” the Bible says in Galatians 4:4-5. That means that everything about the first Christmas was planned and executed by God at just the right time. God orchestrates times and seasons to bring forth His perfect plan—even in our lives too. Perhaps God is calling you into a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. Watch and listen as Pastor Gary shares how the Christmas story might be God's “right time” for you.
Psalm 107 promises that those who do their business on great waters will see the works of the Lord. The wonders of God's power in our lives are often preceded by immense struggle. There are seasons where we reel and stagger and come to our wits' end. When we cry to the Lord in our trouble, He is able to bring us out of our distress and cause the storm to be still. Perhaps God has called you out onto great waters, and you are nearing your wits' end. Do you know and have you cried unto the One who can bring you to your desired haven?

But she finds new Uses For Old Organ Pipes.A series in 17 parts, by Blacksheep. Listen to the Podcast at Steamy Stories. The third Sunday of Lent had arrived. Reverend Morris was counting down the days until Easter in the same way a prisoner counts down the days until their release. He was dreading today's morning Eucharist after the embarrassment of last week."I still can't believe I was stupid enough to mix up that erotic story with my sermon!" He exclaimed. "Why did I print it out?""Ah relax, Simon.
Perhaps God does not want us to be modern because modernity too often blinds us to the eternal. In our rush to build, invent, and achieve, we forget to behold, to wonder, to worship. We lose the ability to see the sacred in the ordinary: the bread on the table, the sun rising over a field, the child laughing in a garden. These are not obstacles to progress; they are reminders of a deeper reality, a reality that modernity often seeks to obscure. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/donavon-riley/support
Is God fair or just? Many people think God's idea of justice is retributive - basically that if you do something bad, he will punish you by having bad things happen to you. But, there is another way to understand justice. Perhaps God does not act according to strict retributive justice, but instead promises us restorative justice, or setting right what sin has eroded. Perhaps God is less interested in punishing wrongdoers than moving them towards repentance, forgiveness, and transformation.
If you've got some bad circumstances floating around in your life, you have got my attention. The question really is, "does God have YOUR attention?" Our new nation Israel must live through some very unpleasant times to ultimately MAKE HIM KNOWN. It wasn't fun. Perhaps God could be at work in the circumstances you do not prefer.https://youtu.be/w0ln1owejkM
The world is full of good and of evil. You and I, we're called to live a life of good. A life that honours God. But what we need, are the life skills to allow us to do that. Fortunately God's already thought of that – and His Word is packed full of wisdom, full of the very life skills that we need, to live a life that glorifies Him. Treat People as Individuals One of the things that's incredibly precious to each one of us is our own name. It's an odd thing when you think about it. I mean, a name is just a label; it's a unique identifier, but if that's all that there was to it, we could just have a number. Why don't we change your name to 7449018? ‘G'day, 7449018! How are you?' It just doesn't have the same ring about it, does it? And there's a reason for that. Our name speaks something of our uniqueness into this world, and so we become incredibly attached to our names. I love the fact that my name is Berni; B e r n I with no e on the end, because that's how my parents spelt it, and that's how it is. I often find myself telling people when they're writing down my name, ‘There's no e on the end.' Why? I mean, does it really matter? Well, actually yes, it does matter to me, just as your name matters to you Think about this: God knows you by name. Isaiah 43:1: But now, thus says the LORD; He who created you, o Jacob, He who formed you, o Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, and you are Mine.' When God thinks of you, He thinks of you by name. When He looks at you, He sees you and He knows your name. When you're in trouble (in distress) and you cry out to Him, He knows your name. Jesus put it beautifully in John 10:2-3: The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice; he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. Imagine, then, how it feels for someone else when you forget their name: When you've met them once, and then you see them again, and you just don't remember their name. That person's name is one of the single-most precious things they have, just as your name is one of the single-most precious things that you have, and when we remember other people's names, it so honours them. It speaks to them of the respect that we have for them. Honestly, I sometimes struggle to remember people's names. I travel round the world and meet many, many people, so for me, it's really quite an occupational challenge, but as best I can, I try to remember their names. I enlist help from our local staff to coach me, and to remind me of people's names. God remembers us by name. That's incredible! God Himself knows your name. How does that make you feel? So imagine the power of remembering and using the names of the people you meet. What a life skill! And imagine building on that and treating each person, interacting with each person, building a relationship with each person, based on who they really are. It's tempting, you know, to treat everyone the same, as though somehow we are all the same. Let's face it: By and large, our default position is that everyone sees things the way we do; everyone experiences things the way we do. Of course in theory, we know that's not true, but in practice, that's pretty much how we behave. And when people don't see things the way we want them to, when they don't react to things the way we expect them to ... well, we respond with surprise, with annoyance and oftentimes, in anger. Just as everybody has their own unique name, so everyone has their own specific God-given gifts. They tend to see things (just as, in fact, we do) through the lens of those gifts, and through the lens of their experience: The good things they've been through, and the bad things as well. Come on. What makes us imagine for one moment that people all see things the way we do? And why is it that we're so surprised when they don't? God's Word is pretty clear on this. Romans 4:4-6: For as in one body we have many members, and not all members have the same function, so we who are many are one body in Christ, and individually we are members of one another. We have gifts that differ, according to the grace given to us. Take a look at any roomful of people: Thirty, forty, a hundred, a thousand, and what you'll notice is that other than the odd pair of identical twins, everybody looks different; different hair-colours, styles, eye-colour, complexion, the way they dress, the way they talk, and even the identical twins when you get to know them are often quite different. So imagine ... I mean just imagine ... if we started working, living, interacting with people, building relationships with people, on the basis that everyone's actually different, rather than everyone being the same; on the basis of getting to know them – their likes and their dislikes; their strengths and their weaknesses, even in just the little things. Some people don't like to be rushed, so don't rush them. Some people like to be punctual, so when you're catching up with them, be on-time. Imagine if you took the time to figure out what makes people tick: Your wife, your husband, your children, your brothers, your sisters, your work-colleagues. Imagine how differently you'd be able to interact with them if you knew just these two things about them: The one thing that annoys them most, and the one thing that they find the most pleasing. Do you think that would improve your relationships? Do you think it'd bring more peace and joy to your life? It's not rocket science. God made everyone to be different, and it's time to start treating them that way. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly God is a God who rewards the good in us. It's a really simple fact. Like any good father, He wants to see His children live a good life. I know that's what I want for my children. Yeah, I want to see them succeed in their chosen profession, but more than that, I want them to be good people: People with good morals; honest; decent; hardworking; loving; caring for others. And like any father, when they were growing up, I tried to teach them those things. It didn't always go that well. Kids being kids, they didn't always get things right and as you well know, as teenagers, they often pushed the boundaries as teenagers do. And as an imperfect father, I didn't always get things right either, just quietly. But what was in my heart for them was to bring them up to be good people, and the best way as a parent to do that was to reward the good behaviour in them; to teach them that good behaviour, unselfish behaviour, honest and decent behaviour, has its rewards. I think that approach is pretty common to all fathers, even if (as I've said) we don't always get it right, and in fact, that's exactly the approach God takes with us. Galatians 6:9: So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest-time if we don't give up. So what God's saying to us here is, yes, sometimes the going does get tough, but hang in there. Keep on doing good because one day, at harvest-time, you're going to reap the reward that He has ready and waiting for you. God blesses and rewards the good in us. That's why Jesus said (John 12:26): Whoever serves Me, the Father will honour. In a world in which people more and more are preferring fifty shades of grey to simple black-and-white, you know, I think that's not such a bad model. It's so easy to take the good in people for granted when all along, the good in other people is really a blessing from God that could and should be rewarded in a way that encourages more good in this world. Just think for a moment how powerful-an agent of change the rewarding of good would be in your life, through your life. Think of the missional impact that the rewarding of good could have through you, as you implement God's approach – God's model of reward, and the rewards don't have to be all that big: A simple, "Thank you. I so appreciate what you did," will often suffice. So who in your life is doing good? Who could you reward today to encourage them to do more good? Because that's the model that God has ordained. Of course, not everyone is good all the time. Sometimes people are downright evil. The question is, so then what? By and large, the simplest thing to do when someone is doing something wrong, something that we know is bad, something that quite clearly is going to have terrible consequences, is ... well, just to ignore it. My wife and I were recently at a café having a quiet cup of coffee or at least, we were trying to. At the next table was a young mother on her mobile phone, chatting away. Opposite her was her one-year-old with a cup in his hand, banging it hard and loud on the table. Now back in my day, I would have taken that cup off him, and taught him that that was the wrong thing to do, even though it probably would have resulted in a tantrum. They have to learn, right? And the sooner the better because one day, that one-year-old is going to be a teenager and then, watch out! But not this mum. No, she simply ignored the child's bad behaviour and apparently oblivious to it, just kept on talking on her mobile phone. How that cup didn't smash in his hand I'll never know. This ignoring of bad behaviour thing starts quite early-on, and because dealing with bad behaviour takes energy – because it'll probably cause conflict along the way, we've all become quite adept at turning the blind eye; at ignoring it, hoping it'll go away, but that's generally not what happens. When we ignore bad behaviour, whether it's in a one-year-old at the café or in a work-colleague who's bullying someone, it almost always gets worse, so what's the answer? What do you do? How do you deal with that bad behaviour? Galatians 6:1: My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in the spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted. In other words, God's calling us to deal with it. God's calling us, albeit in a spirit of gentleness, to confront the bad behaviour with the aim not of exacting revenge, but of restoring the person who's doing bad; with the aim of bringing them back to good behaviour. Now that bit about doing it in the spirit of gentleness is really important. If that young mother had put the phone down and screamed at the child in frustration ... well, that probably wouldn't have been the right approach, any more than you or I responding angrily (with revenge in our hearts) to someone who's doing us wrong. Take care that you yourself are not tempted into that, but when we do it in love, when we do it with gentleness, when we point out the mistake quietly and offer a better alternative to the person who's behaving badly, something surprising happens. God shows up. God honours that, and more often than we might expect, that person who's been behaving badly is restored to good. But that doesn't always work, so then what? People behaving badly in this world is simply a fact of life. We can try and do the right thing; we can try and talk about it to them gently, quietly, privately, to restore them to good behaviour, but let's be honest: It doesn't always work. It should; we wish it did, but it doesn't always work, so then, what do you ordinarily do in that situation? Let's say you tried once or twice to help someone deal with their bad behaviour, but they haven't responded well. What happens next? Well, most of us, we just give up. ‘Well, you know, I tried, but he's a hopeless case. He's never going to change.' Sound familiar? Sure it does. We just write them off and move on, leaving the bad behaviour to fester and harm not just them, but everybody around them. I'm not so sure that's the best approach. What do you think? Have a listen to the apostle Paul's advice to his young ministry protégé, Timothy. 2 Timothy 4:1B-2: I solemnly urge you, proclaim the message. Be persistent, whether the time is favourable or unfavourable. Convince, rebuke, and encourage with the utmost patience in teaching. In a nutshell, the older, more experienced Paul is saying to young Tim here, ‘Don't give up. Keep telling people about Jesus – the good news, the fantastic news about Jesus, whether the conditions are favourable or unfavourable.' Does that mean shoving religion down someone's throat? I don't think so, but what it does mean is not giving up on them. I have a very good friend who knows that some of the things that he's doing are wrong. The lifestyle that he's chosen for himself is just wrong, plain and simple. Now I care deeply for him, and so on the odd occasion, I've shared with him the good news of Jesus and by the way, deep in his heart, I know he believes, but his lifestyle is pulling him away from the Lord. He can't have his cake and eat it too, as the saying goes. As much as I care for him though, the one thing that I will not do – the one thing that I will never do – is endorse his bad choices; tell him that it's all ok, because whether the time is favourable or not, my heart is to convince and rebuke and encourage him with as much patience as I can muster, and of course to pray for him, because there's such incredible power in prayer. James 5:16b: The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. People are going to behave badly, but don't give up on them. Perhaps God's put you in their lives for a time such as this to be the one through whom His love, His grace, His mercy, flows into their lives. Don't give up. Have an Open Heart Can I ask you today just to picture the face of the person who's causing you the most grief, the most pain, the most problems in your life right at the moment? Ok. Do you have their image in front of your eyes? So now let me ask you: Yesterday, how did you respond to that person, in your heart, in your mind? What thoughts have been running through your head about them? What scenarios? What responses? What reactions have been playing themselves out over and over again in your head, and in your heart? How do you feel about that person right now? I'm guessing that there are a few answers there that you're probably not all that comfortable with. Perhaps those questions have taken you to a place where you'd rather not be because when people sin against us, we harden our hearts towards them and close off our lives, so (and here's my final question for you today) how did Jesus react to exactly those same people? Matthew 9:9-10: As Jesus was walking along, He saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and He said to him, ‘Follow Me.' Then he got up and followed Him. And as He sat at dinner in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came, and with sitting with Him and His disciples. Tax collectors were the scum of the earth back in those days. They were fellow-Jews who'd colluded with Roman authorities to exhort exorbitant tolls from people who passed by their tax collection booth on the road. So not only did they collude with the enemy who occupied and oppressed their land, they lined their own pockets at the very same time. No wonder they were hated and despised! But Jesus, instead of shunning them, invited one of them to become one of His disciples and then ... Then He went and had dinner with a bunch of these sinners, with the very same people who were hated and shunned by good, God-fearing Jews. Read on, and you discover He copped quite a bit of criticism for that, but His take on it was that it was exactly the people like them that He'd come to this earth to save, and let me be blunt here: If you believe in Jesus, if you claim to follow Him, it's exactly for people like these that God has put you on this earth: To share the love of Christ with them so that perhaps, some of them will be saved. So back to that one person I had you picturing a moment ago: Your most difficult person, your tax collector if you will. It's that person to whom Jesus has sent you. Be open. Be engaging. Show them the love that Christ has shown you, and the easiest way to get started in doing that is to look for the good in them. When someone's treating you badly, and you want to write them off because they're just too much trouble, and they're more than you can cope with right now, I want to encourage you to do something radical. Are you ready? Try looking for the good in them because let me tell you, no matter how badly someone's behaving, deep-down, there's always some good in them. That's exactly what Jesus did when He went to dine with the sinners and the tax collectors at Matthew's house. Matthew 9:11-13: When the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with the tax collectors and the sinners?' But when Jesus heard this, He said, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what it means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice, for I have come to call not the righteous, but the sinners.' Where others saw only sin, Jesus saw something worth redeeming. Jesus knew that if only these sinners, these social rejects, could experience the love of God first-hand, then the good in them would come to the surface. So often, the people who behave badly do so because they've never experienced unconditional love in their lives. No one's ever stepped into their lives looking for the good in them, and helped them to rediscover that good that they thought had been lost for ever. I'm here with you today because when I was one of those bad people, some of those who call themselves Christians stepped into my life, as Jesus did in the lives of these tax collectors and sinners, and they believed somewhere deep-down inside me, hidden though it may have been to their sight, that there was some good in me worth redeeming. All too often, we approach people like those tax collectors and those sinners with the attitude of, ‘Well, what's in it for me? How will they treat me? What will I experience? Will they hurt me again? What will other people say about me?' It's always with this me, me, me thing. Have you noticed? And yet Jesus had no thought whatsoever about what was in it for Him. The religious leaders, the religious powerbrokers of the day, the ultra-conservative, legalistic, rule-based Pharisees, they criticised Him. ‘Why does He mix with all those undesirables?' "Because I came to heal the sick," said Jesus. "Because I came for them; because these sinners are made in the very image of God, and I'm here to show them mercy." We can go to church; we can sing the songs; we can hear the sermons; we can pat ourselves on the back, but let me tell you, unless and until we look for the good in the sinner, we're just kidding ourselves.
I'm being asked to call these little things "audio tonics" - idk what they are exactly, but I've been burnt out from channeling messages for a bit and while I could understand why in my physical reality, I knew that it was once what gave me the greatest pleasure and joy and didn't want to lose that, so it seems spirit is guiding me to create in a new way and I'm deeply grateful. I say all of this to say to you: if you're feeling lackluster in something you once loved, maybe it's time to approach it in a new way. Perhaps God (insert your preferred word here: Life, Love, Christ Consciousness, Source, One, Infinity, etc) will inspire you today in a fun new way of "jumping in" to your greatest gifts and passions and all that you are. This week we're reading the story of God's promise to Abraham as told in Genesis 15:1-21. When Abraham expresses anxiety about the future, God shows him the stars as a sign of the good things to come. So, too, we think, the signs of God's promises are all around us, if only we can step outside of our small worlds to see them. Yet this text also speaks of promises delayed, of generations passing before God's promises will be fulfilled. In times when things feel hopeless, this text invites us to trust in God rather than being overwhelmed by our present circumstances God receives Abraham's trust and reckons it as righteousness. Perhaps God will do the same for us.

If someone were to sincerely come up and ask you: "What is the Christian life?" How would you describe it? Let's pause this week and ask ourselves this same question. By doing so, it may lead us to pause and reflect—and perhaps learn something from the One who abides within. Has our belief in Jesus Christ been turned into something that can be found in the smorgasbord of most of the thousands of other religions that are out there? Have we shrunk what was meant to be a supernatural, interactive relationship down to a "to-do" list of rigorous religious routines that focus more on the external ... while leading many towards self-condemnation and the judging of others? Maybe (just maybe) life in Christ is far wider, longer, higher, and deeper than what we have known. Perhaps God wants us to experience Him in a way that abundantly exceeds our limited assumptions—significantly beyond what we could ask or think regarding the doctrines of men, theology, and Bible interpretations. You want this. In fact, you inwardly long for it ... and the good news is ... God wants you to have it. --Available on Amazon - "Clash of The Covenants: Escaping Religious Bondage Through the Grace Guarantee" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713ZSKY7
Can a person really experience the True and Living God? What is the will of God and how can we know for certain that we are walking in His will? Dr. Richard Blackaby, author of the Experiencing God Bible Study answers these questions. Perhaps God is much more than an impersonal force that has left us to our own religious rituals, intellect, and devices. It very well could be that He is desiring for you to enter a very personal relationship with Him and experience His goodness every day! Paul seems to be skirting disaster at every turn, and only God knows the reason why his life is being preserved so. Perhaps God is still working in this situation, bringing about things that only God knows. Whatever the case, Paul is finding refuge among the very government that crucified Jesus.

Acts 9:3 As [Saul] was approaching Damascus on this mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. Saul was a deeply committed Jew and his mission was to destroy the Church. He was acting with the authority of the High Priest in Jerusalem and his task was to search out any followers of Jesus and take them as prisoners. But suddenly everything changed as he travelled on the road to Damascus. A brilliant light flashed around him and he heard a voice asking, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?” (v4). Saul knew the scriptures well enough to know that this must be God so he asked: “Who are you, Lord?” (v5) The reply was not the one he wanted to hear. He was sure that there was nothing in this new-fangled Jesus religion. How shocked he must have been to hear the voice saying: “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting.” This moment changed everything. Saul's life was turned upside down and inside out. He would never be the same again and neither would the Church. But let's spend a moment longer thinking about this Damascus Road experience. I have heard many people saying that they regret not having a miraculous conversion like Saul's. But such experiences are extremely rare. Perhaps God confronted Saul in this way because he knew it was the only way to get through to him. For most of us, the process of coming to faith in God is far less dramatic. God comes to us amid the ordinary everyday rhythm of life. He speaks to us on a country walk, in a sermon, as we read the Bible or speak with a friend. There is nothing dramatic about it – apart from the fact that God meets with us – what an amazing miracle! Question How have you met with God yet? If so, how did that happen? Prayer Dear Lord, thank you that you meet with me in all sorts of ways, and that you want to walk with me today. Amen
LESSON 166I Am Entrusted With The Gifts Of God.All things are given you.
Or here's another metaphor—we have to pull some weeds before we can plant some flowers. Today, I'm going to read a longer passage. Did God run his highlighter over any of this? Listen to part of today's passage once again … But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” If you keep yourself pure, … Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Reach up, reach out, reach in, whatever you need to do to make things right for your life. Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I give You what You placed on my heart right now. I need Your help. Help me to also get the help I need from others to steady my life. Show me what to do. I need Your answers. As above, so below.”
In this second of two broadcasts, Mike shares and expands on quotes from Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), Oswald Chambers (1874-1917), Vance Havner (1901-1986), Amy Carmichael (1867-1951) and Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892), including the following from Charles Spurgeon: “I wish the Lord's power would come upon some of His people who do nothing – that they may be dreadfully miserable and so unhappy that they cannot stay at home but are compelled to start out and do good. It would be a blessing if every one of us felt “Perhaps there is something more I could do for Christ; I shall do it at once. Perhaps there is something I might give to Christ, some Christian service I might be involved in. Perhaps God has given me a talent I have never used or I have treated like an old sword that hangs up unfurbished. We live in such a dark world that we must not waste the tiniest piece of candle.”
Up the carpenter went to Jerusalem, a very special man soon to be crucified and then, in mighty triumph, wondrously resurrected from the dead.He dined with his disciples, a last loving supper with them to celebrate his body and his blood. The communion, the meaning of the Living Christ had begun. They found him, the Romans and the Sanhedrin did, they tried him, found him guilty although no man so convicted had ever been more innocent and sentenced him to death, the cruelest and most brutal death possible, a public crucifixion. They nailed him to that wooden cross. Ironic is it not that a man who lived and worked with wood died on wood. But before he died he uttered unforgettable words:MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?WHY?Stunning, shocking words, almost impossible to believe. Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ of Glory, the SON of the Living God believed that this God the Father had forsaken him! It is impossible to know how he felt, how awful that death must have been for him. For, in that crucial moment, when worlds collided, when heaven and earth met in a tumultuous and cataclysmic way, when the most powerful earthshaking event in all of human history was about to take place, the one whose life was taken so that he could give life to all others felt forsaken! He felt abandoned by the God who sent him for this mission. He was in that sense like us, a man, a human being with emotions and feelings as we have. On that cross, he was like us.And it was in that dark moment as though God had departed, forsaken this man. It might well have been that this holy God could not look upon the ultimate and tragic event. For on that cross, in the blood and body of that person, in that death unto sin were in fact the sins of the world, all of them and all of ours. Perhaps God had in fact withdrawn until that ultimate act was finished and when done, there would be propitiation, remission, which would take away the sins of the world. Perhaps the agony, suffering and meaning of that event needed to occur all by itself. Our Lord knew what would happen. He knew what he would have to do, what God required him to do, what his mission was. And yet, he asked as a man:LET THIS CUP PASS FROM MESaying, in effect that he could only wish that he would not have to go through this monstrous ordeal. But then came the realization, that eternal realization that it was not up to him, whether or not this fate, this mission would go away and he uttered the ultimate words of submissions:NOT MY WILL BUT YOUR WILL BE DONE, FATHERThis crucifixion I endure because you would have me do it.And so our Lord, the carpenter who made living things from wood was to die on a deadly wooden cross. He would die in pain, excruciating pain, in agony, awful agony. He would die exposed physically, body naked and mutilated and subject to ridicule. He would die with ultimate humiliation, mocked by so many. He would die blood, sweat and tears everywhere, the worst possible death the Romans could deliver. And all the time innocent, guilty of:NOTHINGSmall wonder he said:LET IT PASS, PLEASE LET IT PASS!And so he died, the blood, the remission for our sins, for us complete. But, on that third day came the most miraculous, wondrous event this world of ours has ever known. There came on that third day the resurrection, the back-to-life of Jesus Christ, our living Savior and the Prince of Glory. From that brutalized dead body of a carpenter came the resurrected and risen Savior of the world. The power, the ultimate universal power of God Almighty at work. The tomb where he was buried was empty and that is the CRUX of Christianity. If Christ be not risen, says Apostle Paul, then our Christian faith is in vain, worthless. Of all men we who believe in a Christ not risen are most miserable. Then we are of all men deceived and spiritually deranged. Christianity says Paul without the risen Christ is worthless. Yet it seems so difficult to believe. Coming back to life after death is just simply not humanly possible. Except that, ALL THINGS are possible with God, all things including the resurrection of the dead. But the tomb was empty, no body found, as witnessed 2,000 years ago by three women Mary, Mary Magdalene and Salome. They came to this tomb of Joseph of Arimathea to anoint the body of the crucified Christ only to find the messenger of God, an angel who pronounced the three most important words for every believer in the risen Christ:HE IS RISENGo and tell, the disciples, and Peter, and start the spread of that Gospel, the good news to all mankind the world over. Hallelujah and praise the Lord.So we sing on Easter Sunday:CHRIST THE LORD IS RISEN TODAY!HALLELUJAH!Let us sing with praise and worship for that man tried and convicted, crucified, dead and buried was in fact, hallelujah, raised from the dead, resurrected by the power of God, eternal life in him and because of our belief in him, eternal life for us.We know, we believe that Christ is risen and we who are Christian are one with him. We pray that the love and forgiveness of the Christ of Calvary shall be the portion, the salvation of all mankind even as we sing in praise now and for eternity:CHRIST THE LORD IS RISENHALLELUJAH!
Yona's mentor, Jerusza, left her with many skills to survive and even thrive in the unforgiving forest of eastern Europe, but she also left her with many unanswered questions. Why did she kidnap Yona from her German family? Why did she tell her their names just before she died? Why did she teach Yona how to kill a man? Jerusaza said the universe was about balance, for each method of death, she taught Yona a way to dispense healing, too. She taught her many languages and how to read, but Jerusza never appreciated or answered Yona's questions. “She drank the books down like cool water and listened with rapt attention whenever Jerusza deigned to impart her secrets.” Maybe we can learn a lesson from Yona. Take people on their own terms, accept them as they are without attempting to change them. The only person any of us can change is the one in the mirror “Perhaps God gives us the answers before we know what the questions will be.” Yona was a sponge and she soaked up the learning offered to her. Will she ever meet her real family? Jerusza had said, “Lives are circles spinning across the world, and when they're meant to intersect again they do.” Yona's solitary life ends when she discovers a group of Jewish refugees fleeing from the Nazi terror in 1942. Yona's big heart also accepts a second group of Jews without hesitation, however, the first group she rescued is disgruntled by her willingness to help another group of refugees. Isn't life puzzling? Later, a conflict causes Yona to leave the refugees. She doesn't leave her caring heart behind. She runs across a nun trying to save a little girl after her parents were killed and she jumps in to help. Maria Andrzeja tells Yona, “Do not be afraid to ask questions. But you must always be sure your heart is open to hear the answers.” It is hard for Yona to realize how cruel the Nazis are! When the soldiers line up the nuns to kill them Yona is devastated! Maria tells her, “God is your father, and He is always with you.” She feels broken and helpless. How can she help? She remembers one of the refugees that had lost his family before his eyes once told her, “It's the cracks in us that make us who we are.” If you are ready for an adventure that you will not soon forget, join Kate and Sheila as they recap this unforgettable book, The Forest of the Vanishing Stars! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/recapbookchat/message
What does it mean to live on mission? Living on mission means actively pursuing God's purpose every day and, in every way, which is to glorify Him in all you do so others will come to know Him. It is the Great Commission. Know this: God wants to use you in His plan to draw others to His heart. You are His “plan A” to reach those around you—this is living on mission. LIVING ON OR GOING ON A MISSION | WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?Living on mission doesn't necessarily mean going on a mission, but rather it is a way of walking out your faith and becoming God's ambassadors wherever you are. Perhaps God has called you to GO ON A mission–to go into another area or country and preach the Gospel. But for most of us, this isn't God's calling on our lives. Instead, He says “go” which means while you are going. In other words, “While you live your life, live on mission for Me.” Living on mission will likely push us out of your comfort zone, but it is not burdensome. (See 1 John 5:3-4)FULFILLING THE GREAT COMMISSION IS WHAT IT MEANS TO LIVE ON MISSIONMatthew 28:18-20 records Jesus' final words before He ascended to heaven. “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen.”A COMMISSION – An instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of people. Before Christians become active in the Great Commission they need to understand God's sovereignty over all creation. Jesus holds all authority, and He empowers us through the Holy Spirit to live on mission no matter where we are. Before we participate in the Great Commission, we must be a disciple of Christ. A DISCIPLE – A follower, student of a teacher, leader or philosopher.Wherever we go, and whoever God puts in our path, we are to look for opportunities to share the Gospel so others become disciples of Jesus. “The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, though they cannot compare with the wings and feathers of the stork.” — Job 39:13 Some years ago, I took a bus to a small village a few hours outside of Nairobi, Kenya. Partway through the trip, as I was looking out the window, I saw an ostrich running wildly alongside the bus. Its long neck and bulging eyes stuck out in front of its oddly large body, and it flapped its enormous, fluffy wings while its skinny legs pumped furiously, kicking up clouds of dust as it scurried across the savanna. I couldn't keep from laughing! What a strange and hilarious creature! But as outlandish as ostriches are, they still have their place in creation. Although God didn't endow them with wisdom or good sense, he did see fit to make it possible for them to outpace horses and riders—and even transit buses on African highways! Perhaps God created such a funny creature for times when things that happen in life are just so strange that we have to shake our heads and say, “You can't make this stuff up!” Our lives are often so complex in ways that we can't explain, and sometimes we are left speechless. Still, even strange and inexplicable things have their place in life. And like the wildly joyful ostrich, somehow everything fits together, in God's wisdom. Lord, thank you for your wonderfully diverse creation. We praise you that there's a place for everyone in this good creation and that all things hold together in Jesus Christ. In your name we pray. Amen.
It's Friday, October 27th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Christian student forced to convert to Islam Personnel of Kaduna State University in Nigeria, Africa have aided in the kidnapping and forcible conversion to Islam of a Christian student, reports Morning Star News. Dorcas Adekanola, a 20-year-old, first-year chemistry student at the university, was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Students when other members noticed her absence last month, according to leaders of Campus Mission Watch. Her parents received a phone call on September 20 from Christian students saying they were distressed that she was acting strange before her disappearance. The Campus Mission Watch leaders said, “She was always looking scared, which shows she was being threatened by the Islamists on campus. Dorcas was also not seen on campus for some days.” 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Please pray for Dorcas' safe return. Biden authorized strikes on two Syrian targets connected with Iran Last night, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “Today, at President Biden's direction, U.S. military forces conducted self-defense strikes on two facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated groups. “These precision self-defense strikes are a response to a series of ongoing and mostly unsuccessful attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups that began on October 17,” reports ABC News. The airstrikes were reportedly in response to recent attacks on U.S. bases that left nearly two dozen American service members injured. 18 dead, 13 wounded in Maine by suspected gunman, an Army reservist On Wednesday night, a gunman shot and killed at least 18 people and injured 13 others at a bar and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, reports NBC News. Seven people were found dead at the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, eight were found dead at Schemengees Bar and Grille, and three were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Listen to what one eyewitness at the bowling alley said. WITNESS: “Out of nowhere, he just came in and there was a loud pop.” He ran down the bowling lane to hide for safety. WITNESS: “I just booked it down the lane and I slid basically into where the pins are and climbed up on the machine and was on top of the machines for about 10 minutes until the cops got there.” Another bowling alley witness, named Brandon, explained what he heard and did. BRANDON: “I heard something. It was gunshots. I heard a shot and I had to drop my bowling ball and I told everyone to leave. I opened the door. I told them, everyone to leave. And I ran in the woods with a bunch of people that I know.” Tragically, several of his friends in his bowling league died in the murderous rampage. BRANDON: “I lost like three or four friends, just friends that I know.” Jason Levesque, the Mayor of nearby Auburn, Maine, explained what they did with the witnesses on Wednesday night. LEVESQUE: “We took the witnesses of the two locations we actually brought them to a holding area so we can interview them, clear them. And then we wanted to bring them all over here so they can have what we call a ‘reunification process' with their loved ones which is the proper way to do it. We wanted to make sure that evidence can be gathered and then the proper protocol can be followed.” Police named Robert Card, age 40, as a suspect in the shootings, and an arrest warrant on murder charges has been issued. The Army Reservist sergeant 1st class, remains at large. He is considered armed and dangerous. In July, Army Reserve officials reported Card for “behaving erratically,” and he was transported to the nearby Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy for “medical evaluation,” reports CNN. Card is a petroleum supply specialist in the Army Reserve and first enlisted in 2002, While Card has no combat deployments, he was considered a skilled marksman who was one of the best shooters in his unit. House Speaker Johnson: “Prayer is appropriate in a time like this” In related news, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana underscored the importance of prayer, that there would be no more loss of life, reports WWL-TV. JOHNSON: “We are receiving information about this horrific tragedy. It has moved everyone in the Congress, as you might imagine. Our hearts go out to all those involved. The families, of course, of the victims. And we're so grateful for law enforcement. We trust and hope and pray that they're able to apprehend this individual as quickly as possible, there's no more injury or loss of life. This is a dark time in America. We have a lot of problems. We're really, really hopeful and prayerful. “Prayer is appropriate in a time like this, that the evil can end, and this senseless violence can stop. That's the statement this morning on behalf of the entire House of Representatives. Everyone wants this to end.” Being lonely is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day And finally, a new Gallup poll reveals that more than a billion people — or close to a quarter of the world's population — are struggling with loneliness, reports The Christian Post. Younger adults are more likely to suffer from the condition, which health experts warn can have the same effect on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. The survey was conducted in 142 countries and areas worldwide, excluding China, the second-most populated country in the world. Ellyn Maese, a Gallup researcher, said, "Research shows that loneliness is associated with elevated risk for a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, making research on loneliness a critical first step to improving health and wellbeing worldwide.” The data suggests older adults — people 65 and older — reported the lowest incidence of loneliness, with just 17% saying they were feeling "very" or "fairly" lonely. Among young adults aged 19 to 29, however, 27% of respondents reported feeling very or fairly lonely. Perhaps God can use you today to reach out to someone you know who might be lonely. Send that person a hand-written card, make a call, or invite them out for a meal. In 1 Corinthians 12:26, Paul wrote about the body of Christ. He said, “If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, October 27th in the year of our Lord 2023. Bible Reading: Psalm 34:4-9, 17-19; Romans 8:28Lucy didn't feel like going on the class field trip to the rock quarry. She just wanted Ginger, her lost cat, to come home and her dad to get his job back. I just want everything to be okay again, she thought as she got off the bus with the rest of the kids. The quarry foreman handed out hard hats to everyone. "We're going to have a dynamite blast today to loosen and break the stone in the quarry," he said, motioning to the other side of a large pit. A loud horn blared. "After the horn blasts three times, cover your ears!" the foreman called out. The horn sounded two more times, and then--BOOM! A loud explosion sent dust and rocks flying. Once the all-clear horn sounded, the foreman let the kids move closer so they could see what had happened. "Don't worry, kids. They've got it all under control," he said, pointing to the workers who controlled the operation and set off the blasts. When Lucy got home, she picked up one of Ginger's cat toys as she told her mom about the quarry trip. "Sometimes I feel like everything's being blown apart here at home too," said Lucy."I know, honey. When bad things happen it can feel like our whole world is being blown to pieces. Maybe that's when we should remember the workers at the quarry." "The workers?" asked Lucy. "Why them?""They made sure the blasts were safe and controlled, right?" asked Mom. Lucy nodded. "They remind us that someone is in control of our lives too--God. Nothing can happen to us unless He allows it, and He promises to be with us and see us through whatever experiences we face.""But why does He let bad things happen--like Ginger getting lost and Dad losing his job?" asked Lucy."Well, there's no easy answer to that, but remember the workers need the explosions in the quarry to loosen the stone, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get it out. Perhaps God allows explosions in our lives at times to loosen our hearts and get good things out--things like growing in our relationship with Jesus and showing His love to others who are going through hard times." -Nance E. KeyesHow About You?Have you had difficult things happen to you recently? It's okay to feel sad about it, but remember that God is in complete control. Jesus understands how you feel because He suffered too, and He'll be with you through whatever hard situations you have to face. Trust Him to bring good things into your life out of difficulties and to use them to make you more like Him. Today's Key Verse:The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. (NIV) (Psalm 34:19)Today's Key Thought:God is in control
God is at work in our lives, sometimes in unseen ways. He is preparing us for His plans. He is putting us in environments and allowing us to experience certain situations. God is allowing us to meet people. He is at work opening doors of opportunity and closing others. God is preparing us to do His will.Main Points:1. This is easy to forget, isn't it? Even though we are Christians, we can sometimes live as if our lives and our future are entirely in our own hands. But at some point in your life, you probably prayed, “Jesus, I ask you to be the Lord of my life.” At some point, you prayed a prayer of surrender and asked God to lead and guide the direction of your life.2. If we prayed this prayer, we should expect God to answer. I'm confident that today, God is at work in your life. God has plans we don't know about yet. There are opportunities on the way we are ignorant about. There are people we are going to meet and things we will do that currently are only in the heart of God.3. Recognize that right now, you are in a season of preparation. Allow God's plan to unfold in your life. Perhaps God has you right where you are, for such a time as this.Today's Scripture Verses:Esther 4:14 - “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”Proverbs 16:9 - “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”Psalm 37:23 - “The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group5 Minute Discipleship on Instagram
566 Must We Suffer for God's Sake?, A Guided Christian Meditation on Acts 9:13-16 with the Recenter With Christ app The purpose of this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and connect with the true source of peace, Jesus Christ. Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization. Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted f or about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes. Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation: Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate. Scripture for Meditation NASB 13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” ESV 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he has done to your saints at Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” Meditation: Ananias was told directly to go help Paul. He resists which makes sense. I find it interesting that Ananias was told that Paul would be shown how he must suffer for Gods name. Why? We don't know but we get some insight from reflecting on Gods word. Perhaps God revealed it to deal with the struggle of understanding Gos blessings amidst life challenges. There are many ways to explain the value of Paul's mission. And the Lord chooses to explain his necessary suffering. It demonstrates a valuable dichotomy. Sometimes we feel that God promises that everything will go smooth. I have talked with so many people who are struggling who feel that their struggles are a sign that God is not treating them fairly or has forgotten them. The story of Job is an example. This scripture speaks of the universal axiom that struggle leads to growth when empowered by God. It briefly shows the contrast of the victory of Paul's conversion yet also the deep challenge that will be demanded of him in his new faith in the Lord. Each of us will suffer for the Lord in our own way. This is not a failing of the plan of God. It is baked into the plan. Our focus should be to pause and rejoice in all the Lord has given us regardless of what is happening around us. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials. Is your stress, anxiety & overwhelm keeping you stuck? Do you tend to stay in your overwhelm because your fiery trial is going on so long? I get it but I want to show you a better way. A healthier way to help you to combat your stress, fear, anxiety and overwhelm. God gives us His truth in His word that I hope will encourage you. When we are going through hard seasons in life they can threaten to paralyze us and keep us stuck in the fear, anxiety, stress and overwhelm of it all. And honestly, that is exactly where Satan wants you. Stuck in fear, anxiety, stress and overwhelm. John 10:10 tells us that Satan is a thief. He wants to steal our joy and our peace. We know our fire seasons won't last forever even though sometimes it feels like they will. Staying in God's word, listening to worship music, continually communicating with God WILL strengthen you to persevere through the trials. In Phil 3:10 Paul reminds us that we gain something greater when we go thru our trials…. A special closeness with Jesus. So I believe THIS is what he refers to when Paul says that we should rejoice in our trials. 1 Pt 4:12-13 So if you are walking through a fire today, hold on tightly to Jesus, don't give up and turn away from him because it's been going on too long. Our time isn't God's time. Perhaps God is showing you it is time to deal with some unresolved trauma that you have been putting off. Only you and God know. But God is merciful and faithful to His children. Always. I hung onto to these verses I will be sharing when I was going through my 3 year "fire" and I can honestly say that my relationship with the Lord was forever changed because of that season in my life. When we walk through the fires of life if we stay connected to our source then we will come out stronger on the other side. And deepen our relationship w/the Lord in the process. Painful? Absolutely. But yet somehow beautiful in the end. Grab your Bible and a journal and let's get renewed! I pray this blesses you and encourages you today! XO, Michelle Let's DO IT!!
