LESSON 166I Am Entrusted With The Gifts Of God.All things are given you. God's trust in you is limitless. He knows His Son. He gives without exception, holding nothing back that can contribute to your happiness. And yet, unless your will is one with His, His gifts are not received. But what would make you think there is another will than His?Here is the paradox that underlies the making of the world. This world is not the Will of God, and so it is not real. Yet those who think it real must still believe there is another will, and one that leads to opposite effects from those He wills. Impossible indeed; but every mind that looks upon the world and judges it as certain, solid, trustworthy and true believes in two creators; or in one, himself alone. But never in one God.The gifts of God are not acceptable to anyone who holds such strange beliefs. He must believe that to accept God's gifts, however evident they may become, however urgently he may be called to claim them as his own, is to be pressed to treachery against himself. He must deny their presence, contradict the truth, and suffer to preserve the world he made. Here is the only home he thinks he knows. Here is the only safety he believes that he can find. Without the world he made is he an outcast; homeless and afraid. He does not realize that it is here he is afraid indeed, and homeless, too; an outcast wandering so far from home, so long away, he does not realize he has forgotten where he came from, where he goes, and even who he really is.Yet in his lonely, senseless wanderings, God's gifts go with him, all unknown to him. He cannot lose them. But he will not look at what is given him. He wanders on, aware of the futility he sees about him everywhere, perceiving how his little lot but dwindles, as he goes ahead to nowhere. Still he wanders on in misery and poverty, alone though God is with him, and a treasure his so great that everything the world contains is valueless before its magnitude. He seems a sorry figure; weary, worn, in threadbare clothing, and with feet that bleed a little from the rocky road he walks. No one but has identified with him, for everyone who comes here has pursued the path he follows, and has felt defeat and hopelessness as he is feeling them. Yet is he really tragic, when you see that he is following the way he chose, and need but realize Who walks with him and open up his treasures to be free? This is your chosen self, the one you made as a replacement for reality. This is the self you savagely defend against all reason, every evidence, and all the witnesses with proof to show this is not you. You heed them not. You go on your appointed way, with eyes cast down lest you might catch a glimpse of truth, and be released from self-deception and set free. You cower fearfully lest you should feel Christ's touch upon your shoulder, and perceive His gentle hand directing you to look upon your gifts. How could you then proclaim your poverty in exile? He would make you laugh at this perception of yourself. Where is self-pity then? And what becomes of all the tragedy you sought to make for him whom God intended only joy?Your ancient fear has come upon you now, and justice has caught up with you at last. Christ's hand has touched your shoulder, and you feel that you are not alone. You even think the miserable self you thought was you may not be your Identity. Perhaps God's Word is truer than your own. Perhaps His gifts to you are real. Perhaps He has not wholly been outwitted by your plan to keep His Son in deep oblivion, and go the way you chose without your Self.God's Will does not oppose. It merely is. It is not God you have imprisoned in your plan to lose your Self. He does not know about a plan so alien to His Will. There was a need He did not understand, to which He gave an Answer. That is all. And you who have this Answer given you have need no more of anything but This. Now do we live, for now we cannot die. The wish for death is answered, and the sight that looked upon it now has been replaced by vision which perceives that you are not what you pretend to be. One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive yourself as lonely and afraid.Yet He reminds you still of one thing more you had forgotten. For His touch on you has made you like Himself. The gifts you have are not for you alone. What He has come to offer you, you now must learn to give. This is the lesson that His giving holds, for He has saved you from the solitude you sought to make in which to hide from God. He has reminded you of all the gifts that God has given you. He speaks as well of what becomes your will when you accept these gifts, and recognize they are your own.The gifts are yours, entrusted to your care, to give to all who chose the lonely road you have escaped. They do not understand they but pursue their wishes. It is you who teach them now. For you have learned of Christ there is another way for them to walk. Teach them by showing them the happiness that comes to those who feel the touch of Christ, and recognize God's gifts. Let sorrow not tempt you to be unfaithful to your trust.Your sighs will now betray the hopes of those who look to you for their release. Your tears are theirs. If you are sick, you but withhold their healing. What you fear but teaches them their fears are justified. Your hand becomes the giver of Christ's touch; your change of mind becomes the proof that who accepts God's gifts can never suffer anything. You are entrusted with the world's release from pain.Betray it not. Become the living proof of what Christ's touch can offer everyone. God has entrusted all His gifts to you. Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. Such is your mission now. For God entrusts the giving of His gifts to all who have received them. He has shared His joy with you. And now you go to share it with the world.- Jesus Christ in ACIM
Perhaps God will use your hard times to help you minister to others who are going through similar hardships. Pastor Al Dagel explains.
This week as we look at finding stability in a season of instability, this is never going to truly come when we keep trying to avoid loneliness by just filling the void with a person. Jumping into relationships when God is not involved or we are not ready just become major distractions that keep us from growing deep roots and getting our lives built on what we talked about yesterday, the Rock that survives the storms. So often we have to work on creating a good defense before we can have a solid offense. Or here's another metaphor—we have to pull some weeds before we can plant some flowers.Today, I'm going to read a longer passage. I want you to listen to the spirit of what Paul is teaching as much as the actual words he says. But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don't get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people's hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil's trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants. (NLT) As I have asked you before here, as I read, did any phrase or sentence jump out at you? Did God run his highlighter over any of this?Listen to part of today's passage once again … But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.” If you keep yourself pure, … Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don't get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone… (NLT) Is there anything in your life today that is creating instability and you know it's time to pull it out by the roots? Maybe you need some help? Maybe you need some professional help? If today God showed you something, don't wait, don't put it off, do what He told you. Reach up, reach out, reach in, whatever you need to do to make things right for your life.Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I give You what You placed on my heart right now. I need Your help. Help me to also get the help I need from others to steady my life. Show me what to do. I need Your answers. As above, so below.”
How To Bring People To Jesus John 1:35–42 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” 39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. Growth can be difficult. Growing comes with growing pains. Whether it's growing a family, growing a business, or growing the church. What do we do when things go wrong? When things get overlooked and things are not as they are meant to be. Perhaps God has prepared you to step into the mess and be the solution you never thought you could be. Join us on Sunday as we see how the church handled some of its own growing pains and discover how God is still using people today to do great things.

| Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | Finding security in God is a great step forward in our walk with Him. But what does He call us to do next? In the book of Joshua, Joshua sends two spies back to the land of Canaan even though it went badly the first time. While their reasoning for this is unknown, God was executing a rescue plan for Rahab. When we are uncertain about our next steps in obedience to God, we can be sure that He will always call us to reach people so they may be a part of His kingdom. | Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | Though the world may influence us to see through a black and white lens, God calls us to bring "Shalom" to all situations we may be facing. Where there is fear, we carry God's peace. Where there is hate, we demonstrate God's love. When the world is struck with confusion, we are able to lean on God for the hope he provides. Was the Flood an Act of Mercy? by Autumn Dickson Noah's ark is one of the most classic bible stories. Even when you're not Christian, many people are aware of the story and what it means. I read these verses in the last post for this week, and I'm going to read them again with a new angle. Genesis 7:19-20, 23 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. 23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. The Lord destroyed everything. Oftentimes, this is rightfully seen as an act of justice. According to the Come Follow Me manual, the flood was also an act of mercy. I love that justice and mercy often come together, and I want to expand upon that. Here is a quote from the Come Follow Me manual. Elder Neal A. Maxwell taught, “corruption had reached an agency-destroying point that spirits could not, in justice, be sent here.” During Noah's time, the world had become so dark and devastating that bringing new children into the world would have been wrong. When you study child abuse and neglect, this makes complete sense. There comes a point when you are so traumatized that trauma is all you can offer others. And if there are no healthy adults to save the children, then society will just get darker and darker until it destroys itself anyway. Perhaps God destroyed the evil, but they would have destroyed themselves anyway. Because of His decisions, He was also able to save many of the spirits that would have gone down and been destroyed alongside the rest. Now this was an extremely large scale event, but that's what makes it such an easy example to observe. Here is another scriptural example on a slightly smaller scale. In The Book of Mormon, Nephi is teaching his brothers and trying to get them to repent, but they hate the things of God. Here is a verse that shows some of Nephi's pleadings. 1 Nephi 17:45 Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God. Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder. The Lord had to be severe to reach them. We see this over and over and over again throughout scripture. Paul the apostle, Alma the Younger, the Israelites all throughout the Old Testament. You will see this theme all throughout Come Follow Me this year. The Lord is willing to do what's necessary in order to reach us, but there is an important, adjacent understanding that goes hand in hand with this. Jeffrey R. Holland taught, “Justice is not the work of an offended tyrant. It is the loving labor of a Father who is trying to get His children safely home.” I LOVE this quote. He is not an offended tyrant. God is a loving Father, and He is wise enough to know how to reach His children. He's not trying to punish us into submission. He's trying to get through to us. In 1 Peter, we learn that Christ went and preached to those in prison, specifically to the disobedient from the times of Noah. I wonder if they were finally ready to listen. I wonder if the flood and spirit prison reached them so that they were ready to live their life in a manner that brought happiness. I wonder if they are friends with Noah now. If they have repented, then I know this. They are grateful for the Lord and His wisdom in raining down justice and reaching them. All of God's decisions are based on love for His children, the seemingly severe and the softly spoken answer. He chooses the option that will most powerfully reach us. We've seen this on a large scale like with Noah and the flood, we've seen it on a smaller scale with Laman and Lemual. What does it mean for your own life? We have to be careful not to take this principle beyond its proper bounds. The principle is this: God will use tragedy to reach us if it's necessary because He loves us. The principle is not this: If you're experiencing something tragic, it is because God is using tragedy to punish you or because you really need to repent. Tragedy does not equate to wickedness, but it can be a tool that God uses sometimes. It just depends. I testify that all of God's decisions are based on love. I testify that suffering in mortal life is not the worst thing that can happen to a person. I testify that death is not the worst thing that can happen to a person. I testify that God is wise enough to do what it takes to reach us, and I testify that He sent His Son to wash us, heal us, and suffer with us so that He could succor us when we're prepared to accept that loving kindness. I testify that God uses justice to be merciful in our lives. Autumn Dickson was born and raised in a small town in Texas. She served a mission in the Indianapolis Indiana mission. | Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | Throughout Bible history, individuals often face a "second battle" to their faith. These stories illustrate the need for growth in different areas of our lives. In today's sermon, we learn how to lean on God through these "second battles" and to discern whose voice should take authority in the midst of it. | Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | After years of King Saul ruling with selfish ambition and disobedience to God, David was appointed to the throne, which would later bring restoration to Israel. Despite his great sins against God, King David humbled himself and consistently turned back to Him in repentance. In our walk with God, we may be led astray, but walking in repentance allows us to run back and follow through in obedience to His will. Luke continues his reaction of Right Response Ministries' promotion of what they call "Natural Law Theonomy" and points out their becoming a law unto themselves. One reason given by Webbon on why we can't follow God's law, amazingly, is "planes, trains, and automobiles." Perhaps God forgot about dominion when He wrote His perfect law?
| Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | Some of us may want God's will in our lives, assuming that it will line up with what we want for ourselves. But what if God's will for us is different than what we expect? In today's sermon we read about Saul's struggle to walk in obedience to God because he was blinded by his own desires. As we put our new yearly theme into practice, let's prepare ourselves to trust in God's purpose and walk obediently into what that may look like. | Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | How often are we believing that there are areas of our life where we don't need God? | Sermon by Pastor Kim Buckman | Our yearly theme conveys a message about steering away from our own earthly decisions and trusting in what we know is good and in line with God no matter what the outcome may be. This latin phrase "Coram Deo" which means, "before the face of God" or "in the presence of God" tells us an important message; In everything we do, we can do it knowing that God's presence is always available and guiding us. They also undermine it. There is a subtle refusal of Biblical Commands An increasing favoring of cultural views The issue of leadership and submission The issue of modesty and standards relating to modesty The issue of child training A fear of correction It will damage a child It is negative Our forefathers were too hard A fear of culture There is a failure of Biblical instruction in pulpits in homes Our boys are held back from being and becoming men who are prepared to be leaders, husbands, and fathers There is very little training There is also a disdain of male leadership Our daughters are redirected form being and becoming ladies who are trained and prepared to be wives and mommies There is almost no training in this area There is a disdain for male leadership Shown in ridicule Shown in weddings Shown in women's Bible studies All this is to say, there is a growing need. We check the markets often—but how often do we check our hearts? Most of us approach investing with calculators, not character. Yet Scripture calls us to a deeper way. What if investing isn't just a financial activity but a spiritual practice—one that shapes who we're becoming?Tim McCready, Head of Global Advisory at BrightLight (part of the Eversource Wealth Advisors team), has been helping both Kingdom Advisors and FaithFi develop a theological framework for investing that aligns our portfolios—and our hearts—with God's purposes. His recent work explores how timeless spiritual disciplines can transform how believers think about investing. Why Investing Requires a Spiritual LensTim begins with Jesus' words in Matthew 6: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” That's not just a warning—it's an insight into spiritual formation.“Our investment decisions aren't just a reflection of faithfulness,” Tim says. “They're shaping who we're becoming as we seek to be like Jesus.”When we invite God into our investment decisions, investing becomes more than strategy—it becomes worship. It becomes one more place where we ask God to form us into faithful stewards. The Ignatian Prayer of Examen—For InvestorsOne of the most compelling ideas Tim introduces is applying the historic Ignatian prayer of examen to our portfolios. For centuries, believers have ended their day with this reflective practice—examining God's presence, confessing sin, noticing grace, and preparing for tomorrow.Tim suggests: What if investors practiced something similar?Rather than viewing portfolios strictly through analysis or performance, the examen helps us approach them with discernment, surrender, and spiritual attentiveness.Step One: GratitudeGratitude quiets the noise and recenters us on God's generosity. Before looking at performance or market movements, Tim encourages investors to pause and thank God for His provision. It might sound something like:“Heavenly Father, thank You for the gifts You've entrusted to me—including my investment portfolio. Speak to me about my stewardship, challenge me, and remind me of Your faithfulness as I draw near to You.”Gratitude reframes everything. It reminds us that portfolios are gifts to steward—not trophies to admire nor securities to cling to.Step Two: ReviewJust as the daily examen invites believers to review their day, the investing examen invites us to review each line of our portfolio with prayerful reflection. This simple discipline lifts our eyes beyond numbers to the impact our investments have on people, communities, and the world. As Tim notes, “We may find both joy and conviction—joy where God is pleased, and invitation where He's calling us to change.”Step Three: Repentance and RenewalThis is where the examen moves from reflection to transformation.Perhaps we discover that we've placed too much security in our portfolio. Perhaps a certain investment feels misaligned with God's desires. Perhaps God prompts us toward greater generosity.Repentance helps us acknowledge these areas honestly—and renewal invites us to receive God's forgiveness and step forward in faith.A simple prayer might be:“Gracious Provider, rule over every part of my life, including my investments. Forgive me for trusting wealth over You. Give me courage to act where You lead, and joy in following Your plan for my life.”This step reorients our trust away from the market and back toward the One who “owns the cattle on a thousand hills.” (Psalm 50:10)Step Four: Community and AccountabilityThough investing can feel private, it was never meant to be isolated. We grow best in community. Sharing a budget or portfolio with a trusted friend or mentor is humbling—but powerful. Accountability exposes blind spots, clarifies values, and encourages faithfulness.Whether through a small group, a stewardship class, or a community like the FaithFi app, transparency invites God's wisdom through God's people.Step Five: Fasting from Market NoiseWe live in an era of constant market updates, by the day, hour, and minute. Tim points out that this flood of data gives the illusion of control while feeding anxiety.A spiritual practice of “fasting” from market noise—checking less often, turning off notifications, stepping back from constant updates—helps us rest in God's provision instead of reacting to every market swing.Jesus' question echoes here: “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:27) Or, as Tim puts it, “add a single cent to your portfolio?”Step Six: ServiceSpiritually formed investors naturally turn outward. Financial experience is a gift meant to serve others—whether through mentoring, teaching budgeting, serving on a church finance committee, or helping younger believers develop healthy habits.Service transforms stewardship from something we manage to something we multiply.A Holistic Vision of Faithful InvestingWhen we bring together gratitude, review, repentance, community, fasting, and service, we begin to see investing not as a sterile financial exercise but as a rhythm of worship.“Investing is faithfulness,” Tim reminds us. “It forms us. It shapes us as disciples. A biblical approach to investing isn't measured only by returns, but by spiritual formation.”In other words, investing becomes a way to follow Jesus. A biblical worldview of investing doesn't start with performance—it begins with the heart. When we invite God into our investing, He uses even financial decisions to form us into the likeness of Christ.May our portfolios—and our hearts—reflect the One who has entrusted everything to us.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I worked hard to raise my credit score to about 730, but a miscommunication with my student loan led to a late payment and brought it down to 548. So, grab your Bible and join us for today's journey in the Word! TODAY'S DEVOTION: There is a frequency of faith that Jesus hears. The crowds come to listen to Jesus, but Jesus comes to hear the crowds. He's tuned into the silent voices of hearts speaking trust, hope, and desperate faith. Mark tells us about some friends—four of them—who quietly say with their actions, Let's push through this crowd. Let's dig into this roof. Let's hold onto these ropes. Let's see what Jesus will do. Their faith isn't loud, but Jesus perceives it. He sees their determination, he hears their silent prayers and pleading. Mark closely records each small step—pushing through the crowd, digging into the roof, holding on to the ropes, lowering their dear friend to Jesus. Jesus sees it all. And when he does, he responds not only with healing, but with forgiveness. "When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, 'Take heart, son, your sins are forgiven.'" Faith, sometimes, is not just in words but in actions, in persistent movement, in refusing to be discouraged. But within the crowd, others are speaking a different language—a language of disbelief, skepticism, and scorn. Only Jesus hears those words too. "Why does this man speak like that? He's blaspheming. Who can forgive sins but God alone?" Even as God offers forgiveness and healing, doubt fills the room. Yet Jesus persists. He confronts disbelief, he offers grace, and he calls us to trust him even when others do not. So what is Jesus hearing from you today? Are your words silent prayers of faith, a whisper of hope, or perhaps a desperate plea to break through the darkness? Or do doubts crowd in, pushing back against hope, afraid to believe that God is good and can be trusted? Jesus hears it all. And he calls us to push through, to dig in, to hold on, to believe that his heart is truly good for us. Sometimes, faith—the kind that moves mountains—is simply the kind that pushes through, digs in, and keeps holding on. Mark's story reminds us: God is good. You can trust him. In your struggle, in your prayers, in your need, let faith whisper, Perhaps God, in his goodness, will help me. That is my prayer for my own soul, for my family—for my wife and my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you today. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. August 2, 2025Today's Reading: Introit for Pentecost 8 - Psalm 49:7-8, 13-14a, 15; antiphon: Psalm 49:1-2Daily Lectionary: 1 Samuel 17:20-47; Acts 26:24-27:8“But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.” (Psalm 49:15)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. In Perelandra, the second book in C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy, the main character is sent to the planet Perelandra (what we call Venus) to save that planet from the kind of temptation and Fall that happened on the silent planet (what we call Earth). As the story begins, the man is sealed into and later arrives on Perelandra in a coffin-like spacecraft. And who exactly is this character who flies through the celestial vault in a casket, only to arrive at an unfallen planet and rescue it? A most fitting name: Ransom. The story Lewis tells us of Ransom's cosmic adventure and rescue of Perelandra is a beautiful picture of the true story of ransom in our own world. What the Psalmist sings about in Psalm 49 is God's rescuing and redeeming work of ransom. If God were to come to earth, we might imagine that he would do so in some spectacular way, perhaps a spaceship that would put the Millennium Falcon or the U.S.S. Enterprise to shame. Perhaps God would come faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. But Look! Behold! Not up, but down. Our Ransom comes from above, but is found below. So don't look up at the stars through a telescope, but look through your ears to the manger. God, our Ransom, comes to save us, not in a spacecraft, but wrapped in swaddling cloths and cooing and wiggling in the arms of the Virgin Mary. His name is Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. His name is Ransom, for he will pay for your sins with every drop of his blood on the cross. What the Psalmist sings - God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol - takes place in the manger of Bethlehem and the cross outside Jerusalem. After all, God's work of Ransom doesn't happen once upon a time, or in a galaxy far, far away. But in the days of Caesar, when all the Roman world was taxed and when Quirinius was governor of Syria, and when Pilate washed his hands. And the good news is this: your ransom is no science fiction story; it's a fact. Under the darkness of a noonday night sky, Jesus gave his life as a ransom for you. And three days later, he walked out of the cold, dark expanse of the tomb to bring you new life. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead, Your death is now my life indeed, For You have paid my ransom. (LSB 555:6)Rev. Bible Reading: Romans 12:3-5"I want to play first base this year, and Coach Nichols won't let me!" said Quincy. "He says I'll help the team more if I play right field." He frowned. "The guys have a saying about right field. They say, 'right field equals left out,' because the ball never gets hit to that side of the outfield.""Now, hold on! That's just not true!" said Dad. "A good right fielder often makes important plays--and I know you'll be a good one." But nothing Dad said could convince Quincy that right field was a good position for him.The next day, Quincy helped his father plant geraniums in the front yard. "Maybe we could get some of those bushes with white flowers we saw when we hiked up Mount Major," said Quincy. "They'd look nice here with the geraniums."Dad shook his head. "Those plants grow well in higher elevations, but I don't think they'd do well down here. God didn't intend for all plants to thrive in the same location. Each species has its own spot in the plant kingdom. That principle applies to people too. God has blessed every one of us with the talents we need to do the best job in the special spot He's put us in."Dad smiled at Quincy. "For example, God gave you one of the strongest throwing arms on your baseball team. That's important for a right fielder, so give it a chance. Perhaps God has a special lesson He wants you to learn by playing right field on your ball team.""What lesson could there be in that?" asked Quincy. "Maybe God wants you to see that every person on a team is important," said Dad. "That's true for baseball, and it's also true for another team you're on--Jesus's team of all those who trust in Him. God gave every Christian an important part to play in caring for other members of Christ's team and sharing His love with those who don't know Him. Without each person's important role, the whole team suffers--just like your baseball team won't do as well if you refuse to play right field."Quincy sighed. "Okay," he said after a moment. "Right field, here I come!" –Linda M. MagoonHow About You?Do you get upset when you don't get the position you want--whether it's on a sports team or within Christ's team of believers? Jesus gave you the gifts and abilities He did so you could fill an important role and serve Him with other Christians. So no matter where He places you, be a team player and use your gifts to help the body of Christ share His love with the world. Today's Key Verse:Those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. (NKJV) (1 Corinthians 12:22)Today's Key Thought:Each team member is important

There are signs that cannot be ingored, unless you choose to ignore them. There are some signs that are more compelling than others and must be considered. On July 1, 2025 Jimmy Swaggart went home to be with the Lord. On that same day a friend had asked me if I knew that he had a vision and word from Jesus? I did not know anything about it so she sent it to me. I watched a video he had made in his very old age sharing what he saw and what Jesus said to him long ago. The things he saw were powerfully prophetic, and the words Jesus spoke to Him were none other than that of the great commission. The vision and words he received were on July 1, 1985 at 7:00 in the morning. The day he passed away was exactly on the same day, forty years to the day and nearly the very hour. He passed away at 7:30 in the morning. Perhaps God allowed that in order to show us there is, in a sense, a short thirty minute window of a grace period left regarding the final harvest of salvation. And the final work we have been given to do in the lives of others in the final yards we have left to go in this time right before the rapture. There is now an urgency I have never felt before in my whole life, and I have a great unction coupled with joy, and "that knowning the fear of God we persuade men." “The light that shines farthest shines brightest nearest home.” ― C.T. LESSON 166 I Am Entrusted With The Gifts Of God.All things are given you.
Day 40 - What's in Your Toolbox Daniel 1:1-20 God gave Daniel and his friends knowledge, understanding, and wisdom ten times greater than their peers—what has He placed in your toolbox? “What do you bring to the table that adds value—not just to the church, but to the world?” Perhaps God is calling you to the intersection of marketplace and ministry to be a light in spaces where others won't go. So be Daniel—uncompromising, unwavering, and let your light shine in a world that desperately needs a new perspective. The Power of Boundaries & Integrity What are some boundaries you need to set in order to protect your purpose? Identifying & Using Your Gifts (Your “Toolbox”) What do you bring to the table that adds value—not just to the church, but to the world? How would you answer this question?
Joseph's brothers went to Egypt because of a famine. We know that their “going to Egypt” was part of God's plan, even though God generally warned his people about assimilating into any of the cultures around them. Perhaps God knew they were better off being in Egypt as a people to themselves than being in […] The post Joseph's Brothers Come to Egypt appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church - Gladys VA.
Send us a textIs there any harm with a white lie? What about not wanting to hurt someone's feelings? How do we handle situations which seem morally ambiguous when it comes to truth telling. The Bible is very clear about telling lies. God hates it. Lying goes against God's nature, something He simply does not do. The father of all lies is the devil, the deceiver. Yet we have all told a lie, to save our skins, or to delay an outcome due to fear. Why can't we tell lies to not hurt people's feelings? What if we boldly spoke to truth with no regard to kindness and gentleness. That seems to be the choice of some — you get the truth whether you want it or not! However, that doesn't edify. Everything we do must be for building each other up. Speaking the truth is important, as the tongue emits evils which stem from our heart. We are called to be changed to righteousness, to put away false and perverse things. It is true that there were characters of the Old Testament who lied to evil authorities and were praised for their faith toward God and His people. Perhaps God's grace will abound if you face those moments in your life. Jesus can read our hearts, and stands as an advocate for those who follow after Him. =====Searching for answers to life's questions? Need help finding a church? Drop us a line. Perhaps you are here today, and you've failed to follow through in the past on something God has called you or even your family to. Perhaps God, in His providence, has brought you here today to reveal to you that He is a God of the second chance. As he gave the descendants of Saul another opportunity, in the same way, He is giving us another opportunity to surrender to God's will and call for our lives. Perhaps today, like Esther, who heard God's invitation through her uncle Mordecai, you too hear His voice speaking to you through this morning's message. As did Esther, will you also submit to God's call and let Him use you in a way that will make an eternal impact that will not only be a blessing to you but also impact the people around you whom He cares for? Jim Elliott wrote: He is no fool who gives, what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. For when you die the things of life you cannot take with you. But if you give your life to God. You will gain something you cannot lose, you will gain rewards in heaven, you will gain eternal life, you will also have the opportunity to gain those around you who will come to know God and again you are setting up yourself not treasures on earth were moth and rust corrupt, but treasures in heaven were moth and rust can never corrupt.

Let us dive into the Word and prayer together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Joshua is not too sure about these 70 people who've received the spirit of God the same way that Moses has received it. But there's no question in Moses' mind, he wanted all God's people to have what he had. Jesus says in Luke's gospel that the spirit of God was upon him to preach the good news to the poor. In the power of the spirit, he's bringing the message of life to the whole world because Jesus wants all people to have what he has. That's what we see here in Mark. He's talking to fishermen, to the sick, to the poor, to the demon possessed, to lepers. He's announcing it to the whole world regardless of who they are. In fact, Mark tells us that the multitudes were gathered at the door ready to receive healing, deliverance, freedom from Jesus. And he's doing all this because he wants you and me and the whole world to have what he has. The loving relationship that he shares with his father. Inclusion into the very life of God. This is what he means when he says, good news, people. The kingdom of God is here. It means Jesus has come to give not just men like Moses or the 70 elders a glimpse or a taste of union with God. He's come to completely embrace us, to immerse us in the triune life of God, in the life and love that is shared with the father and the spirit. So the good news for us today is that Jesus has done this and that you have been enveloped into his very life. Jesus says, I am the vine. You are the branches. Because Jesus came, he took on flesh. He was baptized in the Jordan River, which is a picture of his baptism into our humanity. And there he assumed all human flesh. He took upon himself the human race upon his shoulders, and he was crucified on our behalf in order to free us from the curse of sin, death, and the grave, in order to heal us and make us new. And he did all of this because he wants you to have what he has. He wants you to know his love. And today, perhaps we can see that a little bit more. Perhaps God will use these scriptures that we've just read, that we might live in the joy of the gospel of our lord Jesus Christ. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, and my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. Amen. Today we welcome back Mike Abendroth to discuss the complex issue of doubt. What is it? Do Christians suffer bouts of doubt? As much as it can be the carrier of condemnation, it doesn't necessarily need to bring on waves of guilt. Perhaps God has something for us in those hours. The dark night of the soul is something many believers suffer through but due to lack of understanding of deep trials, believers often attempt to grab the bull by the horns and make it stop. It might not be that simple, in light of the means and ends of suffering we all go through. Who are some of the famous doubters in the Bible, and what was Jesus' response? Why do the youth deconstruct and consider their doubts a badge of honor? A hopeful hour with Mike. God brought forth His Son, Jesus Christ, “in the fullness of time” the Bible says in Galatians 4:4-5. That means that everything about the first Christmas was planned and executed by God at just the right time. God orchestrates times and seasons to bring forth His perfect plan—even in our lives too. Perhaps God is calling you into a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. Watch and listen as Pastor Gary shares how the Christmas story might be God's “right time” for you.
Psalm 107 promises that those who do their business on great waters will see the works of the Lord. The wonders of God's power in our lives are often preceded by immense struggle. There are seasons where we reel and stagger and come to our wits' end. When we cry to the Lord in our trouble, He is able to bring us out of our distress and cause the storm to be still. Perhaps God has called you out onto great waters, and you are nearing your wits' end. Do you know and have you cried unto the One who can bring you to your desired haven?

Perhaps God does not want us to be modern because modernity too often blinds us to the eternal. In our rush to build, invent, and achieve, we forget to behold, to wonder, to worship. We lose the ability to see the sacred in the ordinary: the bread on the table, the sun rising over a field, the child laughing in a garden. These are not obstacles to progress; they are reminders of a deeper reality, a reality that modernity often seeks to obscure. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/donavon-riley/support
Is God fair or just? Many people think God's idea of justice is retributive - basically that if you do something bad, he will punish you by having bad things happen to you. But, there is another way to understand justice. Perhaps God does not act according to strict retributive justice, but instead promises us restorative justice, or setting right what sin has eroded. Perhaps God is less interested in punishing wrongdoers than moving them towards repentance, forgiveness, and transformation.
I'm being asked to call these little things "audio tonics" - idk what they are exactly, but I've been burnt out from channeling messages for a bit and while I could understand why in my physical reality, I knew that it was once what gave me the greatest pleasure and joy and didn't want to lose that, so it seems spirit is guiding me to create in a new way and I'm deeply grateful. I say all of this to say to you: if you're feeling lackluster in something you once loved, maybe it's time to approach it in a new way. Perhaps God (insert your preferred word here: Life, Love, Christ Consciousness, Source, One, Infinity, etc) will inspire you today in a fun new way of "jumping in" to your greatest gifts and passions and all that you are. You are a remarkable star. A work of art. You are adored beyond any measure. I love you, God loves you more. If someone were to sincerely come up and ask you: "What is the Christian life?" How would you describe it? Let's pause this week and ask ourselves this same question. By doing so, it may lead us to pause and reflect—and perhaps learn something from the One who abides within. Has our belief in Jesus Christ been turned into something that can be found in the smorgasbord of most of the thousands of other religions that are out there? Have we shrunk what was meant to be a supernatural, interactive relationship down to a "to-do" list of rigorous religious routines that focus more on the external ... while leading many towards self-condemnation and the judging of others? Maybe (just maybe) life in Christ is far wider, longer, higher, and deeper than what we have known. Perhaps God wants us to experience Him in a way that abundantly exceeds our limited assumptions—significantly beyond what we could ask or think regarding the doctrines of men, theology, and Bible interpretations. You want this. In fact, you inwardly long for it ... and the good news is ... God wants you to have it. --Available on Amazon - "Clash of The Covenants: Escaping Religious Bondage Through the Grace Guarantee" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713ZSKY7
