“VAN HEFLIN: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 8/03/2026 (151) Some actors become legends because of their larger-than-life personalities. Others earn that status simply because they're so believable that you forget they're acting at all. VAN HEFLIN belonged firmly in the second category. An Academy Award winner and one of the most respected performers of Hollywood's Golden Age, Heflin built an extraordinary career playing ordinary people with uncommon depth, honesty, and humanity. Whether starring in "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers," "Act of Violence," "Shane," "3:10 to Yuma," or dozens of other classics, he brought an authenticity that made every performance memorable. Join us on From Beneath the Hollywood Sign as we explore the life and remarkable career of this often-overlooked Hollywood giant, examining the films, the man behind them, and why Van Heflin remains one of the finest—and most underrated—actors ever to grace the screen. Fear as a Villain, Humanity as the Battleground Tony zoomed with filmmaker Christopher Piñero to explore how psychological horror can illuminate the most vulnerable corners of human experience. Piñero's award‑winning short film The Prowler — starring Aaron Dominguez of Only Murders in the Building — is a tense, unsettling descent into fear, paranoia, and the fragile line between perception and reality. As The Prowler prepares for its LA debut at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, Piñero joins Tony to unpack the film's origins, emotional architecture, and the cultural influences that shaped its haunting atmosphere. Piñero reveals the spark behind the film: “What if fear itself became the villain?” This question became the creative engine driving The Prowler, a story designed to keep audiences questioning what's real until the final moment. Tony and Piñero dig into how psychological horror can externalize internal battles — turning emotion into threat, and tension into narrative propulsion. Aaron Dominguez's Unsettling Performance Dominguez delivers a grounded, disquieting performance that anchors the film's psychological tension. Tony and Piñero discuss how Dominguez navigates the character's unraveling — guiding audiences through a night where nothing is quite what it seems. SAVE 17% ON PLUS
Christopher Piñero, director of The Prowler, tells us about his psychological horror short film getting accepted to the LA Shorts International Film Festival, working with Aaron Rodriguez, and his plan to make a full-length feature.

Rigor Mortis (2013), When Evil Lurks (2023), and Vicious (2025) Pretty much from the very beginning of horror cinema—or cinema in general—supernatural horror has been part of the storytelling tradition. Granted, many of those early films were adaptations of famous works of literature dealing with ghosts, vampires, and other unworldly creatures, but more than a century later, the supernatural remains a huge gateway for creative filmmakers to walk through in order to create something interesting, and sometimes something genuinely new. Many modern supernatural horror films deal with grief and how we cope with it. Some might call it cathartic, while in other films, it's just downright mean! In the three movies we discuss in this episode, you'll get a taste of all of that—and more. A couple of these films hit especially hard and will leave an impact on you days after the credits roll. You'll either be running to tell your closest friends that they absolutely need to watch them, or you won't say a word for fear that someone might ask, "Is everything okay at home?" But we think that films that can hit that hard deserve to be applauded. So, if you're game, take that next step- and hit play. Movies mentioned in this episode: The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015), The Boxer's Omen (1983), A Chinese Ghost Story (1987), The Dark and the Wicked (2020), Dream Home (2010), Errementari (2017), Exhuma (2024), The Exorcist (1973), Friday the 13th (1980), Ghostbusters (1984), The Golem (1915-1920), The Grudge (2002), Halloween (1978), Häxan (1922), Hellraiser (1987), Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), Hereditary (2018), Hostel (2005), House of the Devil (1897), Last House on the Left (1972), Killer Party (1986), Maniac (1980), Midsommar (2019), Mockingbird (2016), The Monster (2016), Mr. Vampire (1985), My Bloody Valentine (1981), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Nosferatu (1922), The Prowler (1981), Psycho (1960), Rigor Mortis (2013), Scream 7 (2026), The Strangers (2008), The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018), Terrified (2017), Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), The Uninvited (1944), Vicious (2025), When Evil Lurks (2023)

Voice Of Costume - Creating Character through Costume Design
From Spider-Verse super suits to The Burbs' danger-red Easter eggs, Trayce Field reveals how costume design becomes character. Costume designer Trayce Field joins Voice of Costume for a vibrant, deeply human conversation about creativity, collaboration, leadership, and visual storytelling. She traces her path from a multicultural childhood and vintage-clothing obsession to a career designing for Poker Face, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, The Burbs, Spider-Noir, Spaceballs 2, and more. Trayce shares how she builds characters from the inside out—grounding even sci-fi, comedy, and superhero costumes in realism, backstory, texture, color, and emotional truth. She breaks down collaborating with Natasha Lyonne on Charlie Cale's lived-in road-warrior look, creating Donald Glover's Prowler super suit in only two weeks, and stepping into The Burbs mid-season while keeping the characters seamless, funny, stylish, and full of Easter eggs. This episode is packed with insight on fitting rooms, actor trust, sourcing unique fashion, department leadership, creative risk, anxiety, ambition, and what it takes to "figure it out" under pressure. A must-listen for fans of costume design, film production, TV comedy, superhero suits, character creation, and the hidden craft behind unforgettable screen style. The "Voice of Costume" is the first podcast created between working costume designers sharing stories, inspiration, struggles, and insights into the creative career of costume design. A behind-the-scenes podcast to showcase the voices of Costume Designers around the world. Listen in on this inspirational, one-on-one conversation with Catherine Baumgardner. In this sponsored soap box edition of the Risky Business podcast Patrick Gray chats with Toni de la Fuente, the founder of Prowler. Prowler started off as a bunch of scripts in a trenchcoat, then became an open source cloud security tool, and it's now a venture-funded cloud security business. In this interview Toni talks us through how AI is changing the game for him as an open source project owner, and as a vendor. In short, reports of the death of IT and security tooling at the hands of frontier models have been greatly exaggerated. This episode is also available on Youtube. Show notes

Executive Producer: Christoph Falke & Ruben Schulze-FröhlichProjektleitung: Lukas HambrechtSounddesign & Produktion: Fabian SchäfflerMarketing und Ansprechpartner: Bastian SchonauerCopyrights Cover: www.oldtimer-markt.de Hosted on Acast. This week, Robert breaks down the art of keeping a film alive through sheer willpower, while Ira admits producing sounds suspiciously like being blamed for everything. Join Robert and Ira as we discuss the role of producer on micro budget films, focusing on our upcoming feature, PROWLER. Listen for free through iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or Google Podcast Music. So, if you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a film producer, which involves feeding the cast and crew and running around town to get camera gear and batteries and lots of props, including combination locks, a porn collection, tennis shoes, and fake scars and guns, and keeping security at a distance and being a sounding board for the director and scouting the subways and driving to the desert to record gunshots and shattering my car window and stomping barefoot in a pool of blood under a freeway tunnel for a scene that wasn't used, then this podcast is for you!
In this episode we cover Aaron Davis, The Prowler. First, we chronologically cover the character's comic book and movie history in our Lore segment. Jason from Binge Movies (the B-movie appreciator), Megan from Spoilerpiece Theatre (the beautifully balanced critic), and Paul from The Countdown (the show's own Scrooge) return to close out one of the bloodiest years in horror history — 1981. The Blood Pool for this round includes: The Burning (May 8, 1981) – Campfire tales come to life in this legendary summer-camp massacre featuring early work from Harvey Weinstein's Miramax and makeup FX master Tom Savini. Happy Birthday to Me (May 15, 1981) – A prep-school mystery packed with bizarre deaths, psychological twists, and one unforgettable birthday party. The Prowler (Nov 6, 1981) – A WWII-themed slasher where vengeance and Savini's most brutal gore collide. Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (Nov 20, 1981) – A disturbing mix of domestic madness and queer-coded psychological horror that defies the slasher label entirely. From this Pool, the hosts pick their winners for: Best Poster/Box Art Best Cult Classic Best Final “Girl” Best Kill Best Overall Film Continue the conversation on Letterboxd: @slasherspodcast Email: slasherspodcast@gmail.com Series theme: Shattered by Karl Casey @ White Bat Audio This episode originally aired as part of The Slashers limited series — now resurrected for the true believers. Kick off October with a fresh Ask Rick as Rick Schmidt weighs in on the value of car-show trophies, parts sourcing, and where the market's really headed. Are small-show awards worth chasing—or are they just eating into charity budgets? Rick also unpacks the hot question in restoration parts: will manufacturing return to the U.S., or will Taiwan's increasingly high-quality tooling keep leading the charge for low-volume classics? Then it's “Rick's Take – Car Deals: The Bob Lutz Edition.” Rick sizes up a supercharged '99 Viper GTS ACR, a '09 Solstice GXP, and a '00 Prowler for long-term ROI in a world edging toward electrification—followed by an “Investment Hedge” round featuring a '87 Trans Am, '06 Ford GT, and '87 Buick GNX. Which has already peaked, and which still has runway? Tune in to hear how Rick reads the market—and which cars he'd flip first. The post TMCP #622: Ask Rick — Can American Manufacturing Return for Restoration Parts? Rick's Take: Bob Lutz Says EVs Will End the Internal Combustion Engine! first appeared on The Muscle Car Place.
