On today's episode of THE FLAGSHIP SHOW, we resurrect a themed show that we started producing back in the early 2000s when this very record label was established. La La Land Records has been around since 2002 and since then we’ve produced dozens of shows dedicated exclusively to the label. We’ve also had partnerships with other labels including FILM SCORE MONTHLY, VARESE SARABANDE, KRONOS RECORDS, etc but over the years but these record label themes programs started to wane after a while. The last show dedicated solely to La La Land Records was back in June of 2012. You can still find that show Rby going to http://www.cinematicsound.net/la-la-land-records-round-up/ So, today, we thought we’d give this other go. La La Land Records has kindly supplied the program with some of their more recent releases and we’ll include a score from their back catalogue as chosen by you on Twitter. On the program today you'll hear selections from FAR AND AWAY by John Williams, SLIVER with music by Howard Shore and additional music by Christopher Young, MYSTERY MEN by Stephen Warbeck with additional music by Shirley Walker, POINT BREAK by Mark Isham, and CASPER by James Horner. Plus, we’ll pay tribute to one of the greatest guitar heroes of all time, Eddie Van Halen, who lost his battle with cancer on October 6th. We will spin the track "Respect The Wind" from TWISTER in his honour. A big thank you to MV Gerhard and Matt Verboys at La La Land Records and Tim Burden for making this show possible —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. 1999 – First Year Was working at a KFC in the Grafton section of Yorktown, Va. Got a call from Mike Newbern. “Twink, Gary Alcon (ref) can't make it, do you want to go to Fargo?” That right there changed it all. Everything. Stayed in Reed Johnson Hall. Virginian Christian Smith made the Cadet Freestyle finals at 83.5 pounds. He ended up being a 3x state champion and NCAA qualifier for Duke and Liberty (He took down Nickerson in 2007 to open up the tournament). There was no Buffalo Wild Wings. There was a Bison Turf, there was a mug and I may or may not have been from Alabama. Or named Kevin. Shared a dial-up line with Sara Koenig from NCMat.com (you know her now as one of the tournament directors for the Super 32. Rob Sherrill vouched for me for a media credential. Thankfully, I'd met him in Virginia at the Virginia Duals when I was in high school. Don't remember much about the competition since I was still pretty new to the national scene. We had the Dream Team Classic in VA that year, so I paid attention to guys like Foley Dowd, Jason Powell, Clark Forward — and two of those Team USA guys met in the finals, Damion Hahn beat Jason Potter. 2000 – Year 2 Buffalo Wild Wings Opened. Taco Bell re-opened, it was closed the year before for renovations. Harry Lester vs. Mark Jayne, Junior Greco. Jayne was returning JR. Champ, Lester won cadets the year before. 3-5-3 (BOOM). 132 pounds. Virginia had two cadet champs – Christian Staylor and Albert Childress (almost bookends) Kid named Tyler Safratowich of Minnesota won at 83.5 pounds, did a backflip, then he started eating. Mary Kelly going 2-2 in Cadet Freestyle and Micah Amrozowicz, now the head coach at the Newport News Apprentice School, having to come from behind to beat her 8-7. 2001 – Year 3 Started doing freelance work for TheMat.com and wrote features on the Dibbern triplets, Mary Kelly wrestling against the boys in the Juniors. Cerebral Palsy kid J.C. McMaster – his e-mail address was pimp_limpin@ something another dot com. Jeff Courtney, a deaf All-American from West Virginia ? and TRAVIS EFFING LEE. Lee “leis' greco gold. Beat Nick Simmons. Stopping Simmons from becoming just the second guy to win 4 JR FS titles. As of right now, it’s only Alan Fried. 2002 – Year 4 – Drove from ODU. FIRST YEAR OF FEDERATION WEIGHTS. WENT FROM 96 AAS TO 120 IN JUNIORS 104-136 Started bringing my radio equipment and doing the webcast for USAW with Rob and the late Jon Ponwani. Cleveland – NO Chicago – Driving down Addison, game over Milwaukee – Karaoke at a Friday's in Brookfield, WIS Minneapolis – Twins vs. Angels, Milton vs. Washburn, preview of ALCS First year of Junior Women — Malinda Ripley beat Mary Kelly in the finals. Who the hell is Malinda Ripley? Natasha Umemoto was 3rd. She got the first pin of the tournament ever. Poeta beat Metcalf in Cadet FS. Only finals loss in Metcalf's Fargo career. Stepovers, if I recall correctly for exposure. Decent year from VA, Anthony Burke from my club was 5th in a bracket with Coleman Scott, Mike Rowe, Garrett Scott, Mike Rodrigues, Jake Kreigbaum and Eric Albright. I think I had a team PA jacket on when I gave Burke a high five after beating Albright for 5th. Patrick Bond won Cadet FS. Todd Meneely was the OW, beating Teyon Ware. Some guy with an Afro won Junior FS at 171. Herbert was 3rd. Afro guy recently lost a fight. VANS WARPED TOUR WAS OUTSIDE. 2003 – Year 5 – Drove from ODU on short notice Got up, went to Jiffy Lube and boom. Drove to Milwaukee – was using an old atlas, so I didn't know about the cut through via Rockford and kept adding 90 more minutes to my ride. Went to the same Fridays to sing karaoke again. Sat on top of my truck after a session and listened to a Willie Nelson concert at Newman Outdoor Stadium. Years later, Doc Jim Porter would crap all over my Nelson story and say he went and ended up hanging out with him. All-Southern Cadet final as Nick Marable of Tennessee beat Ben Fiacco of Georgia at 145 Cormier vs. Morrison wrestle-off. I slept through the first one. Not a great moment, but indicative of my 20s. 2004 – Year 6 Rode the bus with team Virginia, wrote a blog as we went all week for the old Mat Talk. Won the Connect 4 championship on the bus, beat Josh Wine 51 consecutive times in Connect 4. Finished up my last college class two weeks after getting home. Finishing up 7 years in college. Henry Cejudo beat Spenser Mango in the Greco finals, was up 9-0 or something and thought he'd gotten the tech, then Mango bombed him for 3 (should have been 5) before Cejudo finished it 13-3. 2005- Year 7 – Hired at InterMat. Pretty sure I flew. Stayed at either the Econo Lodge or the Best Western near Bucks. I still hear the bullhorn go off whenever I hear Mony Mony. Florida had a monster year, although I got into an “argument” with Rob Sherrill about who Franklin Gomez counted for — Florida or Puerto Rico. I say PR, because that's who he was representing. Robby Smith beat Cody Gardner in Freestyle, which stunned us from VA. Justin Wren won in Greco, but when Luke Ashmore won, they all climbed over the railing to celebrate, then trying to go back, Wren got into an argument with a security guard and got thrown out. Couple of Wyoming kids met in the Greco finals, but one had moved to Ohio. Tyler Cox pinned David Taylor in Cadet Greco. Taylor beat BJ Futrell to win cadet FS at 91 ? pounds. 2006 – Year 8 First year of the garbage rules. Hit a rainstorm coming through O'Hare and spent the night there. Connor McDonald took my spot on the last plane to Fargo from O'Hare. Then he wins the tournament. The little shit. ODU had two signees in the Fargo finals — James Nicholson at 119 and Adam Koballa at 130. Eric Grajales bombed Donte Butler and during my interview, Butler cut through it talking some trash. Grajales goes “I just fived you!” in response. Butler has the unique distinction of being the ONLY five-time finalist to never win a title. Eli and Michaela Hutchison become first brother-sister combo to win Junior titles in the same year. 2007 – Year 9 Oregon's Norman Richmond with the breakout performance splitting finals with Jason Chamberlain Helen Maroulis wins a chicken, Nicole Woody goes nuts and ruins my interview. Hayden Zillmer and Jade Rauser at the same weight — 84 pounds — Zillmer doubled at 84 pounds. Alton brothers, Josh Kindig from PA. Nasty. 2008 – Year 10 – Last year at InterMat Drove straight through from PA to Minnesota. Stopped in St. Cloud for about 2 hours, missed the first session. 2009 – Year 11 – Wrestling 411/USAW “That just happened” – This was the finals where Mark Grey was about to start giving an interview, then he was brought back to the mat to re-wrestle the last few seconds of a second period, only to have Ben Whitford score, force a third and then win the title with a third-period win. Man, those rules sucked. 2010 – Year 12 – USA Wrestling F-Rod's Triple Crown Ringer over Ness Grant LaMont makes Greco finals at Juniors as a first-year Cadet. He doesn’t wrestle on Sundays and Cadet Greco kicked off on a Sunday. Well, let’s move up. 2011 – Year 13 – USA Wrestling Parker VonEgidy makes finals with TWO losses. Ended up with 3. Situation – Abounader, VonEgidy, O'Donnell- won by Ricky Robertson. I think I’ve rehashed this on every single show I’ve had Dom Abounader on. Pat Downey with limited FS experience wins over Jordan Rogers at 171. This looks a lot better now than it did then. 2012 – Year 14 – USA Wrestling Zain vs. Zane at 132. Retherford would win cadet WC that year. Cox/Snyder – J'Den wins Freestyle, Kyle wins Greco. Brett Haas wrestles them both. Willie crashed on my couch and squatted all week during his TOM era. 2013 – Year 15 – AWN/TOM Did the interviews on short notice. Elijah Oliver's gross cauliflower ear Stephanie Hampton making fun of my clothing choices. Jake Marnin was a JV kid and won the cadet triple crown 2014 – Year 16 – Mat Talk Coltan Williams from Texas, OMG that throw in Cadet FS vs. Wilson Smith of NC Johnny Blankenship and Trey Meyer going through my table, and through me — no STWP tonight folks. 2015 – Year 17 – Mat Talk How good those cadet champs were. Gable Steveson, Schwartz, RBY, Raimo, Warner. Wittlake's shoes. Interviewed the Mayor of Fargo for Short Time. He lied about there not being any construction around town. 2016 – Year 18 – Mat Talk Turf burned down. Nothing else matters. 2017- Year 19 – Mat Talk Alabama’s Sam Latona won the state’s first Junior freestyle championship. The soon-to-be Virginia Tech signee claimed gold at 106 pounds. Two months before they would win Cadet World Championships, Will Lewan and Aaron Brooks won Fargo titles. No Turf, so Herd & Horns was the replacement venue for mugs. There weren’t nearly as many shenanigans there, simply because it was cleaner, neater and had better food. 2018 – Year 20 – Mat Talk The Turf re-opened. There was again cornhole to be played. Willie, Spey and myself championed the first ever Wrestling Trivia night. Spey dropped some quality knowledge, all the while Willie answered ONE question, then paraded around the restaurant like he was the freaking MVP. Entries here were 4,999, just one below the elusive 5,000. Carson Manville represented Pennsylvania, however that works, and won double Cadet titles. Jakason Burks was mighty impressive, winning Nebraska’s first Cadet freestyle title since Thomas Gilman represented the state in 2010. Super beastly crop of champions on the Junior freestyle side of things too with pretty much everyone being a hammer. Introduced Earl Smith to Fargo. Ashley Sword showed me that I could get free nachos with the Buffalo Wild Wings app. I was also interviewed by Wayne Fish. Zach Elam generally thought I was mad at him. Discovered Labby’s has Castle Cream Ale on draft – the last night we were there. 2019- Year 21 – Mat Talk The mug turns 21. The bartenders at The Turf are tired of hearing that story. Things I can't remember the year, but are of note. — The year the first session wa

Is "Ducking" Bad?Wasting no time Ben Askren jumps into one of the biggest stories from this weekend, a match that didn't even happen. The main takeaway from the Northwestern vs Iowa dual wasn't about any of the matches that actually took place, it was about the ones that didn't. Neither Spencer Lee or Kaleb Young wrestled in this dual. Spencer Lee vs Sebastian Rivera was one of the most anticipated matches of the season. An explanation for these sort of absences in dual meets is seed protection. A wrestler is "ducking" another opponent in order to protect his seed. Askren does not like this strategy put forth by wrestling programs at all. If you're healthy you should wrestle and not worry about the possibility of losing. Askren didn't miss a single high school match and only one match during his entire college career.Matt Dernlan understands what coaches like Iowa's Coach Tom Brand's is doing by making these choices. They can't afford to put certain things up to chance and have to put their wrestlers in the best situation for the NCAA wrestling tournament. Askren counters that thought with the argument that getting another chance to wrestle a guy who you most likely will end up against at the end of the year can be really beneficial. This way you can figure out why and how they're beating you so you can make the right adjustments for when it really matters. Dernlan talks about how the culture of wrestling is shifting towards stats and numbers but at its core its always been to just go out on the mat and settle it. So what does make up a true champion mentality? Getting the trophy at any cost, or wanting to wrestle every match no matter the opponent?Calling Stalling by the BookThe norm this season with referees seems to be they're not truly thinking about what a stalling call should mean. Askren watched the Lehigh vs Arizona State dual and was impressed with the referee. Instead of calling stalling on a wrestler who can't move without putting themselves in a vulnerable position the ref called a stalemate. You can't make perfect rules there are variables to every situation. So when you try to call the rules the way they're written it doesn't work. Askren and Dernlan think there needs to be a better avenue for communication between officials and coaches during a match. Sometimes a coach wants clarification on a call and they'll receive a warning for asking for it which causes more frustration. Askren has an idea of possibly setting up a dialogue between coaches and referees after matches, to recap any questions or clarifications a coach might have.Side HeadlockAnother rule that has been bugging Askren is the calling of the side headlock stall. When an offensive wrestler applies a side headlock and fails to break down the opponent or execute any other offensive move within five seconds a stalling call is placed on the offensive wrestler. Askren believes this shouldn't be the case. A side headlock is not every single thing that encompasses the head and arms.Penn State's Tournament to LoseDernlan believes this is the first time Penn State has had to deal with some complacency. It takes a different approach and mentality to wrestle with the mindset that you should win. It can be easier to be the hunter or challenger. Askren talks about not wrestling like there's a target on your back. So far Penn State has shown that they haven't changed the mentality and keep competing against their opponents but also themselves. If their teammate went out and tech-falled their opponent, they want to go out and pin theirs. Roman Bravo-Young is expected to miss 3-4 weeks after he suffered an injury during the Michigan dual. Askren believes with RBY getting back healthy around the BIG10 tournament Penn State is going to struggle at 133 lbs.

Episode 345 is a solo show where I’m talking about some of the best memories, not all the best, but just some good and maybe some bad memories of my 19 years covering the Cadet & Junior Nationals. Below is the “show notes” which were basically the rough outline for the show Richard Immel and I were going to do from Fargo. Pardon the grammar and lack of actual respectable prose here, it was initially an outline. 1999 - First Year Was working at a KFC in the Grafton section of Yorktown, Va. Got a call from Mike Newbern. “Twink, Gary Alcon (ref) can’t make it, do you want to go to Fargo?” That right there changed it all. Everything. Stayed in Reed Johnson Hall. Hello PUCLonians! Welcome to a very special edition of Anything Goes. This week I will be chronicling my adventures at PUCLcon and Pokemon Nationals! I am writing this as I go, so I can say that this has been an extremely exciting PUCLcon thus far.WednesdayMy journey started out pretty uneventfully, driving across the state and arriving at Scron's house. He and his family were gracious enough to host me for an evening so I didn't have to drive for like 12 hours in one day. On the trip, I listened to what else but PUCL. I started out by listening to Episode 189, which was last year's PUCLcon episode. This was a great way to get me fired up for the weekend. I followed this up with Episode 183, which was also an atypical episode, as it was a Freeform Show where Thatch, Misty, Beorn, Whimsicott, and Shamu discussed things that annoyed them, as well as many other things. These two can be found here. The tail end of this trip was finished up by listening to a bonus episode which was Broadcasters for a Cure Live show, found between Episodes 177 and 178. I would recommend listening to any of these episodes, even if you have done so already. When I arrived at Scron's house, I was pleasantly surprised to find Scron, Bocefus, Viger, and Mr. Sniffles at Scron's house, playing Pathfinder with some of their friends. It was my first time meeting other PUCL peeps in person. Very relaxed as they finished up their game and I tried to breed Pokemon for the weekend. Shortly after this, Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles went home and Viger and I went to sleep for the night.L to R: Viger, Snag, BocefusMr. SnifflesScron ThursdayBriefly after I woke up, I was sent a link from fellow writer, Locke, to the new Japanese trailer displaying the new Pokemon. Very cool to see these new pokes, even if it was in Japanese.Shortly after this, we got on the road, picked up Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles for an 8 hour drive to Columbus. There were a lot of Pokemon things going on during the ride! Viger, Bo, and Mr. Sniffles were sporadically playing their games throughout the trip. We also listened to the first episode of PUCL, which was roughly 10 minutes long, 2.5 of which were a musical intro. Classic PUCL! The part that was probably the most fun was when we played Pokemon 15 questions with a few modified rules. Every time we did this, we successfully found the Pokemon on each attempt! The Snaggin Wagon on the way to PUCLconWe made it to Columbus and I got checked into my hotel before we went over to Thatch's house. It was at this time that many people were arriving. Dr. Shamu arrived only moments before our group did. Gator was already with Thatch at this time. My 4 traveling companions were all staying with Thatch, but Viger had left a few things in my van so we went out there to get them. There was a black car parked in front of Thatch's house and I thought, “Oh, someone else must be showing up. There are many people coming right now.” And then a female stepped out of the car who looked extremely familiar to me. I asked Viger, “Is that Whimsicott!?” And at that point, we rushed up hugged her and freaked out a little bit! Viger then quickly and calmly grabbed his camera so he could record everyone else's reaction. It was fantastic to see the surprise on everyone's face. Thatch's first reaction is not appropriate for this article, but it was amazing! And shortly after that, another writer, Sublime Manic, arrived and he was completely over shadowed by Whimsicott! She arrived without telling anyone from PUCL and proved that she was truly the Prankster Whimsicott!Whimsicott even gets her own banner!Italian Flipflops! After this, we went to dinner at a really cool Asian chain that Thatch suggested we go to. Apparently, American's eat fast because we were all done eating while Whimsicott was still finishing her food and we almost left her behind. Also, we must have been a bit loud as the restaurant staff had asked us to quiet down a bit. After eating dinner, I made my way back to the hotel, where Whimsicott and Sublime were also staying. We also collected other PUCLonians, such Ten Little Men (TLM), his friend, Woddy, and R Sigma. At first, TLM didn't realize that the girl who was coming along with us Whimsicott until we started talking about how far we all had to travel. He had thought that he and Woody had traveled pretty far being from Canada, but Whimsicott pointed out that she came further. TLM asked, “Where did you come from?” and Whimsicott said, “…Italy…” and then TLM's mouth dropped and exclaimed, “You came!?” This was at least 5 minutes after we had introduced ourselves. It was another great surprise! After this, we went to Thatch's house, again. Some people prepared for tournaments that were occurring on the following day, but many of us played Smash Brother and tested out the streaming set up. Around 11 pm or midnight, we wrapped things up so people could get some rest for the first day at the convention center.FridayMy roommate, R. Sigma had to leave early to compete in the National tournament. Just for participating, he got some sweet swag pictured below. For participating in the tournament, the players got a play mat, deck box, deck sleeves, a promo card, lanyard, and Vicitini pin.Around 9 am, the rest of Team Hotel (myself, Whimsicott, TLM, Sublime, and Woody) met the rest of the group at Thatch's. We got to meet Mr. Maximus who arrived early in the morning. Before we left for the convention center, I ran to Toys R Us to get the Shamin Anniversary Plush, but there was no Shaymin. TLM cam with and got a repeat ball w/ Pikachu and Woody got a Yoshi figure, as well.We then made our way over to the convention center. The first thing we saw was a Pokemon Center store set up at the convention center. They had most of the things you would expect to see at a Pokemon Center store, but it was all on hand. Many members of our group bought a bunch of things. Woody even spent a bunch of money on a large art print of May and some of her Pokemon. The print that Woody purchased. Pretty sweet, even if it's over priced. Before we entered the main center where the even was being held, we found Jushiro and surprised him with Whimsicott and then we all got pictures with Pikachu. As we were making our way to the hall, there was a sign for the event shiny Machamp which was on the team of the Champion of the Senior's division last year. The entire PUCL crew literally stopped and went, Oh, Shiny! Most of the PUCL crew with Pikachu. Even though most of us don't get into the Pikachu hype, when else would we get the chance to have a picture with a giant Pikachu!?Friday was PUCL cosplay day. L to R: Snag as Prof. Birch, Ten Little Men as Emerald, Mr. Sniffles as a Scientist, Bocefus as a Bug Catcher, and Viger as an Original Character. After checking things out a little bit, we met up with Minor-Manectric and his wife, now deemed Mega-Manectric (or Major-Manectric) just before heading to lunch. After lunch, it was time to get down for business. I prepared for a classic RBY tournament using the Virtual Console games. I got schooled, 0-3, but it was still fun to see a few other people who really wanted to play the classic games. Other people played Battle Spot singles in 8 man pods. Not only that but PUCL took over an 8-man pod for a TCG prerelease tournament. Thatch ended up winning this, but Shamu had a great showing using the Tyranitar card that Sublime trashed in Ep. 7 of the TCGcast.Once things were winding down for the day, we all went back to Thatch's, ordered pizza had chips and a variety of drinks. To everyone's surprise, Whimsicott actually liked American pizza, even though she won't admit it!As dinner was ending, I went to my van and brought in the present that PUCL had for Thatch & Misty's Wedding. Big shout out to Basket, who draws comics for the site, and Dr. Shamu for their artistic contributions to the project (Basket drew it, and Shamu added the coloring). Also, the person who framed the picture, Adam, you're the best! They were surprised and were so grateful that our community came together to give this to them. The newlyweds holding their PUCL gift!Feraligatr and Lucario against the world! After that, we went to streaming on Twitch. We started with a little bit Smash, and a few people wanted to do TCG unboxings. The highlight of the night was our 12-man OU tournament. Spontaneously, Jushiro and I started doing commentary for Round 1. It was so much fun! But we saw Gliscor on so many teams!!! It is under a suspect test for being banned next year for sure. In the first round, Shamu beat Mr. Sniffles, Gator lost to Bocefus, Maximus overcame Thatch, Whimsicott handily defeated Woody (who was using a stellar team of pokes (they were mine)), Minor-Manectric defeated Viger, and Ten Little Men narrowly edged out R. Sigma. After those 6 matches, it was after midnight so we decided to save the rest of the tourney for the next day.PUCLcon OU TournamentSaturdayBefore we left in the morning, there was apparently a major shorts issues at Casa de Thatch, because Thatch was missing some shorts for a while, found them, but then Viger was missing shorts. I think that all go resolved though…There were a few people who had left early with Misty because there was some events they wanted to try, then a group left in what was deemed to be the Snaggin Wagon, and the Thatchmobile followed a little bit later. We were lucky enough to snag a couple of tables for our group to sit at, which is a bit of a luxury, at times.Woody and Maximus got signed up for a little cup tournament, but the set up was a bit disappointing. Several players were using banned Pokemon such as Scyther, Sneasal, and others, and the judge apparently didn't clearly know the rules, so it was a bit of a joke.We spent the day doing a variety of things. Some people drew pictures of Pokemon cards, others prepared for afternoon tournies. Mr. Sniffles participated in what was supposed to be a Red, White or Blue Monochoromatic Tournament, but most of the players didn't understand the rules and used Red, White and Blue. Despite this, he did fairly well and went 3-1 and was only one of a few people who really played by the designated rules. We also had the opportunity to meet up with Mickey from Pokemon Crossroads, who has been on the podcast before, as well as folks from the Kanto Cast, before we left for lunch.Thatch's Flying Meganium. The whole PUCLcon crew! After lunch, we took over another 8-man pod for Battle Spot Singles, where ultimately, Whimsicott beat Thatch in the finals! We also took over 8-man pods for 2 more pre-release draft tournaments for the TCG. Sublime won one of these, and Bocefus won the other. We then watched a few competitors playing Pokken for the main Tournament.Snag meet up with other Professors since he decided to just wear his lab coat all weekend. Because lab coats are cool!L to R: Ash, Prof. Elm, Prof. Juniper, Prof. Birch, and Prof. Snag.We then made our way back to the area where Thatch lives and got dinner, and then recorded the podcast. If you haven't taken the time to listen to episode 241 yet, you definitely want to do so. It was one of the highlights of the weekend, especially being able to give Jushiro a 3ds considering he has lost his earlier in the year.Thatch himself recording the episode!Snag and Jushiro modeling their awesome Pokeball robes. After recording the episode, a few people began to prepare for the final day at the convention, especially for the Triathalon, where competitors play VCG, TCG, and Pokken against each other. They worked on building decks and honing their Pokken skills. They were doing that in the living room while others finished the OU tournament, with commentary from Sublime and me.Snag and Sublime doing commentary on the final rounds of the PUCLcon OU tournament. In round 2, Whimsicott narrowly beat Maximus, in a battle of Gym Leaders, TLM handily beat Minor-Manectric, and Shamu took down Bo. With our 3 competitors, we advanced TLM directly to the finals due to him winning his matches with more Pokemon left than Shamu or Whimsicott. The reign of the mighty Whimsicott, who claims to be a “filthy casual”, came to an end when she battled Shamu. In the final, TLM beat Shamu in a great match and became the PUCLcon 2016 OU Champion.SundayNow, my recollection of what happened on Sunday is a little foggy as we stayed up really late Sunday/Monday and I didn't record my notes until Tuesday morning…Today was a little bit of a later start, but no one was bothered by that. There was nothing anyone was really trying to get to. When we got to the convention center, I stopped and got a few classic Pokemon things that I thought belonged in my collection including dogtags with Abra and Kadabra and Squirtle and Ivysaur figurines with Masterballs.Alaka-swag given to me by various people at PUCLcon. Thanks everyone, especially Viger!A few people played in some Little Cup tournaments. A few people were in various Triathalon tournaments. Most notably, Jushiro, Misty, and Scron were all in one group with one other person. There were a few gym battles happening, as well, including a 40 minute battle I had with Minor-Manectric that I lost due to a flinch near the end of the battle. (*sigh* See you on Saturday!) Over all, it was a really mellow day. I think we were all really tired and the event in general was really sparse compared to Saturday. We weren't even all that interested in the Finals of any of the main tournaments. Late in the afternoon, we made our way back to Thatch's house, but not before losing 2 of our members, Gator and R. Sigma as they had to make their way back home.Bo made it on the Official Pokemon Twitter! Catch those bugs! Before getting Thatch's, though, we bought some t-shirts to screen print some exclusive PUCLcon shirts (just in coloring, there weren't any printed with PUCLcon on it or anything). There were a few people who also wanted to go to Walmart and get some booster packs. I felt like such an enabler… I know how bad a TCG addiction can be and I encouraged others to feed that addiction. Woody, TLM, and the Manectrics ended up buying some TCG packs and Whimsicott bought a Leafeon and Vaporeon plush.PUCLcon 2016: Back row L to R:Whimsicott, Ten Little Men, Mega-Manectric, Sublime, Viger, Thatch, Dr. Shamu, Minor-Manectric, Snag, Jushiro; Front row L to R: Woody, Mr. Maximus, Bocefus, Scron, Mr. Sniffles; Not Pictured: Gator, R. Sigma, MistyFor the rest of the night, we kind of put Pokemon on hold and just enjoyed each other's company. Some of us played Cards Against Humanity while others worked on screen printing shirts. Thatch really enjoyed printing the shirts as that allowed him the time to just talk with people for a while. We did this into the wee hours of he morning as I think we all wanted to squeeze every last moment out of this time together. Ultimately, Team Hotel had to go back to the hotel and we had to say good byes to several people, including the Manectrics. Shortly after this, at the hotel, it was at this time I had to say good bye to Whimsicott, TLM, and Woody as I would be leaving in only a few hours later.MondayI left my hotel with Sublime around 7 am, as he had to go to Thatch's to be driven to the airport. At this time, we said another round of goodbyes to Shamu, Maximus, Jushiro, Sublime, and Thatchs (and probably others). Most people were making their way home on this day.As we drove, I tried to rest as best as I could. It was a quiet ride as many of us were exhausted and used this time as a bit of a Pokemon detox. Before I knew it, we were back in the home town of my driving mates. We dropped off Viger, then Scron, and finally Bocefus and Mr. Sniffles. And then I was by myself. I had a 4 hour drive to think on the weekend and start to miss the great friends that I had only known from afar but had the wonderful privilege of being in their presence for a few short days. Thatch said it best by mentioning before this, we were online friends, but now we're friends who keep up online. When I got home, I was welcome by my wife and kids who hadn't seem me for 5 days. I was so excited to share the memories I brought home with them as we watched the Independence day fireworks. I must have left a good impression because Mrs. Snag is talking about going to PUCLcon next year!As I am writing this article people are still finding their way home from PUCLcon. I think TLM and Woody are still on their way to Canada and Whimsicott just boarded her flight off of this continent. There was something magical and amazing about this weekend. PUCLcon 2016 was a true testament of what the PUCL community is: warm, welcoming, fun, family. I am proud to be friends with these people and and I am proud to be part of this awesome community. Thank you for reading and thank you for being part of PUCL. We love you!Great Ball signed by all who attended PUCLcon 2016. We had the entire council, except Ethan. Hosted on Acast.
