On the Penn State Wrestling Show, we preview the US Open, the U20 and U17 Opens. We'll also recap the Class of 2025 recruiting rankings. Penn State ties at the senior levelCurrent Nittany Lions are entered in both the U20 (also referred to as the junior division) and the Senior divisions. Starting with a look at the entries for the latter tournament, which helps set the team that competes at the Olympic level, Luke Lilledahl is one of the favorites at 57 kilograms (125.6 pounds). The same can be said for defending NCAA champ Mitchell Mesenbrink at 74 kilograms (163.1). Newcomer Rocco Welsh is the 86 kilogram (189.5 pounds) field. And, Class of 2025 signee Marcus Blaze is in the senior level tournament at 61 kilograms (134.4 pounds).Penn State alum Beau Bartlett is in the senior tournament at 63 kilograms (143.4 pounds) and could see familiar foe Jesse Mendez of Ohio State in that weight class' final. Other Nittany Lion Wrestling Club members competing in that division include Kyle Dake, who is bumping up two weight classes to 86 kilograms (189.5 pounds), and Kyle Snyder (97 kg/213.8 pounds). And, former Penn State wrestlers Nico Megaludis and Terrell Barraclough will compete at 61 and 74 kilograms, respectively.Nittany Lion ties in the U20 tournamentA large batch of young Penn State wrestlers will compete in the U20 tournament. The list includes Cole and Connor Mirasola at 92 and 125 kilograms, respectively, Brock Weiss at 70 kilograms, Joe Sealey at 74 kilograms, Nate Demsond at 61 kilograms, Dalton Perry at 65 kilograms, PJ Duke at 70 kilograms, and William Henckel at 79 kilograms. One Class of 2026 commit is also in the U20 field. Johnstown Bishop McCort PIAA placer Sam Herring is in the 61 kilograms field.James set for U17 actionLast but not least on the list of Penn State competitors at the U.S. Open is new Class of 2026 commit Jayden James. Alright stop, collaborate and listen / Intrepid is back with their brand-new invention Peer-to-peer had a very different meaning to me during my freshman year of college and it had absolutely nothing to do with the file-sharing software, Napster, and “downloading” songs to burn a sick mix cd. Today, peer-to-peer learning is something I'm more fluent in practicing and it's at the highest priority when I'm restructuring. One of the major flaws in early learning platforms was the severe lack of a dynamic relationship between the learning content and the learner. In my career, it becomes more apparent to me every. single. day. that learning is something that grows stronger and faster when shared with others. In this episode, I have the pleasure once again to speak with Vice President & General Manager of Intrepid, Sam Herring. If any of you were watching my show a year ago (episode link below) Sam and I had the chance to debunk the myth that online collaborative learning wasn't possible #fakenews. We finally have the opportunity to catch back up and see what he and Intrepid are doing to continually innovate and push their collaborative learning platform to the next level to inspire and transform organizations in the #futureofwork. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/learningtechtalks/support

Impactful, collaborative learning always requires an in-person component, right? Afterall, how can you possibly collaborate without being together? I can speak from first-hand experience that it’s possible but not possible without the right tech. Historically, we’ve relied on in-person events for collaborative learning opportunities. Unfortunately, events are trapped as moments in time and rarely have the sticky effect required for long-term success. While critics may say technology is incapable of replicating this human experience, technology may be proving to achieve the same outcomes with a broader audience and at a speed and scale impossible by traditional means. In this episode Sam Herring and I talk about how technology is enabling collaborative problem solving focused on real business challenges that can be delivered at scale without the typical sub-par user experience. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/learningtechtalks/support

He illustrated these thoughts with how one of largest not‐for‐profit, academic health systems in the United States built and deployed a remote learning system to train the army of nurses battling COVID-19 during those first weeks in March:“Within a day of selecting the Intrepid platform, the health system’s learning team created an initial course prototype, within four days learning pathways were created and audited by nursing leaders, and within eleven days the complete training solution was launched across the entire health system. The initial audience includes approximately 3000 nurses, LPNs, and hospital support staff, and may expand to additional groups.”Listen to this episode of Remote Possibilities for more insights related to the new realities of distance learning.

Short Time Shots: Mount Olive wins battle of first-year squads (12-4-19)

Short Time Wrestling Podcast

Canada takes this one in a landslide folks. I’m Jason Bryant and this is Short Time Shots, your mostly daily recap of the scores and more from around the world of wrestling. What does Canada take? Well, as I checked into the Fallsview Marriott, I looked out the window to see the most glorious sight I’ve ever seen out of a hotel window at a wrestling event. Seriously, Wrestling Canada Lutte (you have to say Lutte) has at least made one person happy so far. By the way, it’s also not everyday you get picked up at the airport by an Olympic medalist. As far as picking up Olympic medalists, I’ve done that way more. Not quite like smoking fake pot with Peter Frampton, but you get the idea. Yes, a Mitch Hedberg reference.  Also, Niagara Brewing Company has some first-class stuff.  To the scores! Dual Meets:  Kentucky Wesleyan won its first dual in school history on Tuesday night. Well guess what, they have their first winning streak as the Panthers beat NAIA Thomas More 28-21to win the school’s second dual ever and second in a row. Kentucky Wesleyan stormed out to a 28-0 lead and put it in cruise control from there.  Mount Olive topped Lander 24-23 in a matchup of first year teams. With the dual on the line, Mount Olive’s Drew Weichers’ major decision at 157 pounds in the dual’s final bout was enough to give the Trojans the win, spoiling the dual debut of the Lander Bearcats.  In Division III, Westminster beat Fontbonne 31-18, Thiel beat Pitt-Bradford 50-6, while UW-Platteville beat UW-Stevens Point 25-15. Stevens Point’s Matt Berlin remained unbeaten at 13-0 with a fall at 133 pounds. Division III Millikin, ranked No. 18, beat Lincoln, which is in its first year active as an NAIA school, 41-12. Southern Virginia defeated NJCAA Southwest Virginia 33-15. In the NAIA, Grand View won its 81st straight dual, but it wasn’t a blowout. The Vikings won six of 10 to defeat Baker 27-15. Five bouts were decided by two points or less. No. 10 Life trounced Truett McConnell 46-5. In Kansas at Olathe South High School, Ottawa beat Central Christian 45-9. In the desert, Embry-Riddle beat Arizona Christian 35-15. On the women’s side, No. 14 Missouri Valley beat No. 20 Saint Mary (Kansas) 28-15 to pick up their first win of the season. No report from the women’s dual between Fontbonne and Westminster. Notables on the Docket: Just a pair of duals in Division I as Bucknell hosts Bloomsburg, which is right down the road, unless you’re in a snowstorm like I was back in 2011 or ‘12. Wrestling’s version of the Backyard Brawl goes down in Morgantown as West Virginia hosts Pittsburgh. Anyone ever hear the story about the Pitt PA announcer asking the fans if anyone owned a tractor with West Virginia plates E-I-E-I-O, because its lights were on? WVU came back to win that game, by the way. True story.  In Division II, Colorado Mesa (formerly known as Mesa State) hosts Western Colorado (formerly known as Western State and Western State Colorado), Emmanuel faces McKendree, MSU-Moorhead faces Northern State in the Northern Sun Conference. Central Oklahoma will face off with NAIA Oklahoma City.  Lourdes, which just added a women’s team, will face Adrian, North Central’s at Wheaton, while Simpson (Iowa) hosts a tri-meet with Central College and Augustana (Ill.) In the NAIA, apparently Lindenwood-Belleville is at Lyon. I’d love to know what’s going on at Belleville, since my emails to the sports information office and coaching staff have gone unreturned. As have my phone calls. Does anyone return calls anymore? Missouri Valley is at Graceland and Concordia (Neb.) is at Morningside.  On the women’s side, East Stroudsburg and King head to Ferrum for a tri-meet in the only reported action scheduled on Thursday. I’m going to suggest heading to TransitionWrestling.com for the minutiae of women’s wrestling. Yes, Gabby gets more plugs.   FROM THE DWN: In the wake of the gigantic outpouring of support for Iowa alum Brandon Sorensen and his fight against leukemia, another Iowa wrestler could also use help from the wrestling community. Justin Portillo has set up a GoFundMe for Grand View women’s wrestler Jas Alexander. She was in a horrific car accident on her way to volunteer at a wrestling event in Waterloo several weeks ago.  Sorensen’s GoFundMe raised over $66,000 in 18 hours (and it’s still growing). Jas transferred to Grand View to join the wrestling team there in her senior season. She is showing resiliency and could use a hand there, too.  The Oklahoma State student newspaper, the O’Colly, does a solid feature on Anthony Montalvo, explaining his hardships growing up that involved poverty and abuse. NJ.com’s Bill Evans looks into the careers of three former New Jersey standouts who are waiting to enroll at Cornell, but are taking greyshirt years.  MLive.com features Pennsylvania high school standout Gaige Garcia, a two-sport athlete who plans on playing football and wrestling at Michigan.  St. Cloud State’s 52-match win streak is re-capturing the attention of its local news media as WJON reports. The Huskies set the Division II record a few years ago at 54 in a row. They’re in line to beat their own record.  Craig Sesker writes about Sorensen for The Predicament.  Trackwrestling released its first set of high school wrestling rankings. I did high school rankings from 1997 to 2005. I also did some high school research when I was with The Open Mat. Yup, not something I ever want to do again. Track, Willie, whoever else, go for it. That’s on you man!  Sam Herring of the Home Mat Advantage fires up another podcast, this time with Wyoming Seminary’s Scott Green and Beau Bartlett.  WIN Magazine’s Mike Finn profiles Iowa and why they’re going to wrestle free and loose to try to score more bonus points this season.  Since I’m up in Canada, I might as well throw some Canadian news out there as CBC features 2016 Olympic champion Erica Wiebe and the battle she must go through just to make the team in order to try to win another Olympic medal. BP Sports Niagara also features another Canadian women’s wrestler, world medalist Diana Weicker.  The Times of India profiles world medalist Bajrang Punia, the Indian wrestler who’s a pretty big fan favorite here in the U.S. That’s not what the story’s about, but hey.  On The Network Chad Dennis returns with The MatBoss Podcast where he interviews Air Force associate head coach Joe Johnston. . Don’t think I’ll be using that AirPod/Backpack Studio connection in the future, especially in the garage. My wife took slight exception to the note about the noise, but after nine and a half years of marriage, I still like to poke a little fun. I’m Jason Bryant, and this is Short Time Shots, a mostly daily look at the scores and more from around the world of wrestling. Anyone else hate Comcast? Not going down that rabbit hole.  Dual Meets:  No Division I action, but enough to chat about to make you want to order a 20-piece Chicken McNugget meal at 3:29 a.m. and ask them to put every sauce in the bag! Wait, sorry, flashbacks. And yes, I knew that in 2005, McDonalds on Columbia Avenue in Lancaster, PA started serving breakfast at 3:30 a.m. There’s only one way to discover that - the hard way.m I’ll start in D3, where third-ranked Wartburg remembered its fallen three-time national champion Kenny “Kennfucios” Anderson on Wednesday and then pounded Simpson (Iowa) 47-3. Kris Rumph, the guy who beat Iowa’s Gavin Teasdale over the weekend, yeah, he won by fall at 133. The win ran Wartburg’s win streak in the American Rivers Conference is now 215.  St. Cloud State, which should be ranked No. 1 when the next Division II rankings come out, extended its win streak to 52 in a row and its conference dual win streak to 69 in a row after shutting out Southwest Minnesota State 42-0 at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. Top-ranked James Barzowski topped Nathan Moore 10-3 at 157 pounds.  Shippensburg knocked off Division III Waynesburg 35-12. The Red Raiders notched three falls, with the fastest coming from DeAndre Reed at 149 in 1:02. Northern State beat its Division III opponent, Concordia-Moorhead, 24-15 just across the Red River in Moorhead, Minnesota. Billy Holtan, son of longtime Mat Talk Podcast Network patron Bill Holton, picked up a major decision at 165 pounds in the Wolves’ winning effort. Going back to PA, Kutztown defeated Millersville 24-13. Moving south, Division II Belmont Abbey beat NAIA Bluefield 34-11 and Coker beat Truett McConnell 39-12 Division III Scranton won six bouts to knock off Division II East Stroudsburg 24-15 to win a Dundie. Don’t know what that is? That’s what she said. In keeping it D3, UW-La Crosse beat UW-Eau Claire 25-12 and UW-Whitewater beat UW-Platteville 27-12. Castleton beat Norwich 31-17 in New England. In the NAIA, Wayland Baptist beat Central Christian 45-12, Briar Cliff beat Northwestern (Iowa) 24-16. Lourdes beat Division III Defiance 29-14. I really should come up with more puns with Defiance.  On the women’s side, Oklahoma City beat Texas Wesleyan 41-7 with Cierra Foster picking up a fall at 143 pounds in just 20 seconds.  GET A FREE MONTH OF PODCAST HOSTING WITH LIBSYN There are approximately 66 active wrestling podcasts out there, with 20 of them on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. Go to www.takedowncancer.org for information or contact Mark Neu at mneu@shakopee.k12.mn.usLet’s TakeDown Cancer! - No one fights alone! Notables on the Docket for November 20: Pretty solid schedule across the board on November 20. In Division I, Missouri hosts Division II Central Missouri and NAIA Missouri Valley, while a pair of teams from out west head east. Oregon State heads to George Mason, while Air Force will face Hofstra. In Division II, a pair of newer programs will hook up as Urbana will face Bellarmine. In D3, we’ve got Manchester heading to Adrian, an all-Iowa tilt as Central faces Coe, while up in Wisconsin, UW-Stevens Point will face UW-Oshkosh. A pretty solid slate of duals in the NAIA, with Corban facing Simpson and Southern Oregon in a tri-meet, while Life Pacific will host Arizona Christian. Vanguard will also be in the house facing Arizona Christian. That’s a tri with three teams in the west all started in the past two years. Warner Pacific is at Montana State-Northern, Central Methodist heads to Iowa for a men’s and women’s double dip with Grand View. Grand View trying to extend its win streak to 79. The Vikings currently hold the second longest win streak in college wrestling history. If the math is right, the Vi kings won’t break the record of 92 this season. Doane is at Midland, Benedictine is at St. Mary and who knows what the heck is going on at Lindenwood-Belleville. Last I’d heard was the school was going to consolidate its sports with Lindewood’s main campus in Missouri. The women’s roster and coaching staff hasn’t been updated, yet the women are supposed to face MacMurray, while the men are allegedly facing off with Calumet College of St. Joseph.  Keeping with the women’s schedule, Limestone heads to King, Adrian is at Tiffin, Simpson is also up at Southern Oregon with the men and Midland heads west to face Colorado Mesa.  FROM THE DWN: Wyatt Henson, the son of Sammie Henson and a 2021 Iowa commit, was reportedly ruled ineligible for the postseason by the WPIAL, which is essentially the athletic association for Western PA. Henson started out at Waynesburg Central while his dad was the head coach a short distance away in Morgantown, West Virginia at WVU. IAwrestle posted about it, while PA Power is following up.  Craig Sesker follows up on the story Trackwrestling posted yesterday, in which he believes freestyle should replace folkstyle. He writes this on The Predicament.  Earlier this week, I posted about Anthony Ashnault and Nick Suriano of Rutgers getting the nod to attend the White House as NCAA Collegiate Champions Day. TheMat.com’s Gary Abbott confirms Penn State’s team championship as well as individual titlists Yianni Diakomihalis of Cornell, Drew Foster of Northern Iowa and Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech will also be in attendance. Penn State will be represented by Jason Nolf, Bo Nickal, Nick Nevills and Mason Manville along with Senior Associate AD Rick Kaluza. I say again, I don’t care about your politics. Next.  Everyone’s favorite podcasting wrestling teenagers, Sam Herring and Jude Swisher, have added Mason Beckman to the Home Mat Advantage team. Lucky for Beckman, he can still pass as 15.  Lots of conference awards being named, and again, they’re in the newsletter, but not all here. One that will be here today is from the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas, which is a hybrid collection of wrestling schools in those two conferences. Mount Olive, a first year program led by past Purdue All-American Jake Patacsil, had its first award winner as Hayden Waddell was honored as the Wrestler of the Week after winning the Star City Classic last weekend.  Flowrestling is looking ahead to Iowa-Iowa State by looking back at the history of the series, giving us six reasons to watch AND trying to piss off Hawkeye fans by giving you the way Iowa State can win the dual.  After hearing about Quant Wrestling on yesterday’s On The Mat, Trackwrestling drops a statistical breakdown by Quant Wrestling that breaks down various scoring attacks and analytics from the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Stat nerds should love it.  On The Network Inside Virginia Tech Wrestling talks with Hokies head wrestling coach Tony Robie about the upcoming trip to Washington, D.C. to accompany NCAA champion Mekhi Lewis on his visit to the White House. We also recap the win over Ohio State and the upcoming Navy Classic. You can get to read those stories and more from Mat Talk Online’s daily wrestling newsletter. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow - somewhere else. You know what, I made my bed, so I’ll lie in it. I moved here. Like the point, counterpoint in the movie Airplane! said, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let’em crash. Well, let me shiver. This isn’t the weather report for New Brighton, Minnesota - but it’s close - welcome to Short Time Shots, your mostly daily look at the wrestling scores and more from around the world.  Minnesota Beer of the Night: In preparation for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, when I’m having a beer while putting this show together in the evening, I will enlighten you with that particular information. Tonight, it’s from probably my favorite or second-favorite Minnesota brewery, Fair State Brewing Cooperative. This one’s called Spirit Foul, a super rare collaboration with Modern Times Brewing out of San Diego, which is Spanish for a whale … you know. It’s a hazy IPA, which I’m starting to come around to. I’m not going to tell you about the flavor profile or something snooty like that. I like to try various beers, and I like to drink various beers. This is one I’ve gotten my hands on each of the last three years. It’s hard to find and sells out quickly. I will NOT be featuring Bud heavy, ever, on this show. Sorry Willie. Oh, if you’re on Untappd, find me there at jasonbryant12.  Dual Meets:  In the Chancellor’s Cup Dual, UW-Eau Claire won the first seven matches and cruised past UW-Oshkosh 25-9 in Eau Claire. The Blugolds were solid, picking up four major decisions en route to the win. We’re not sure where UW-Eau Claire’s Chancellor is going to put said cup, but my recommendation is to fill it up with Spotted Cow and drink from it as a chalice.  In the Keystone State, Division II Shippensburg topped Division III Elizabethtown 25-13 in E-Town on Wednesday. Wins by Austin Klucker and Dan Berberick at 197 and 285 enabled the Raiders to pull away for the win. Also in PA, Wilkes defeated Alvernia in that school’s first dual meet in school history 28-12.  In Ohio, Heidelberg - wait for it - defeated Wilmington 54-3. Still waiting. Yes, it’s my goal to teach everyone in this country the great wrestling mascots and nicknames we have. The Student Princes of Heidelberg. They used to be coached by current Army West Point assistant Ned Shuck.  Thomas More, which recently reclassified to the NAIA, defeated the second-year program at Ohio Wesleyan 27-19. Shay Horton, Avery Jones and Tyler Kassinger picked up falls for the Saints. No Elisabeth Shue references from The Saint today. Ok, just that one. Another NAIA over NCAA win came in Bristol, on the Tennessee side as Cumberland University beat King University 27-19. Cumberland fell behind 10-0 early before taking the lead for good after Dylan Quinn’s 17-10 win over Elijah Davis at 165. Heavyweight Patrick DePiazza sealed the win for the Phoenix. Yes, their named after a mythical firebird … or a city in Arizona.  Benedictine of Kansas beat Northwest Tech, also of Kansas 25-19 in a dual that won’t count for Benedictine. Why? NAIA rules stipulate that only competition against four-year varsity programs count for duals and individual records. Hey, I don’t make the rules. Oddly, if you’re an NCAA school, those matches do count. It counts for Northwest Tech, by the way. In a match that did count in the NAIA, Providence - the one in Montana - was impressive in winning all nine contested matches against Southern Oregon 35-6. In Arkansas, Division III University of the Ozarks beat Arkansas Baptist of the NJCAA 51-4. We close with the men’s and women’s doubleheader at UW-Stevens Point as the Pointers swept both matches over visiting Lakeland. UW-Stevens Point won the women’s dual 24-19, while the men’s dual wasn’t as close, with the Pointers sweeping all 10 matches over the Muskies in a 49-0 drubbing.  GET A FREE MONTH OF PODCAST HOSTING WITH LIBSYN There are approximately 63 active wrestling podcasts out there, with 20 of them on the Mat Talk Podcast Network. Notables on the Docket for November 14: Illinois will head to St. Louis to take on No. 13 Missouri at Francis Howell High School. In Division II, CSU-Pueblo hosts what’s being dubbed a scrimmage against Otero Junior College, Colorado School of Mines will host Northeastern Junior College and Chadron State heads to the Western Slope to face Western Colorado, which you might remember as Western State.  In Division III, MacMurray hosts a quad, while Pitt-Bradford hosts Mercyhurst North East of the NJCAA. In a Chicagoland matchup, the Maroons of the University of Chicago travel to Elmhurst to face Steve Marianetti’s Bluejays. Chicago was actually a charter member of the Big Ten in 1896.  All Georgia matchup in the NAIA where Truett McConnell faces Brewton-Parker, Central Baptist is at Oklahoma Wesleyan, Providence heads to Eastern Oregon, while out in California, Fresno City faces Bakersfield and Skyline is at Modesto in the California Community Colleges.  FROM THE DWN: USA Wrestling and the United States Olympic and Paralymic Committee announced on Wednesday amendments to the 2020 Olympic Trials qualification process. The procedures initially made the highest American placewinner at the Dave Schultz Memorial a qualifier for the Trials. Well, due to scheduling issues, there is no Schultz this year, so the Last Chance Qualifier now has the top two wrestlers in each weight and style qualifying with a true second place match instituted, if needed.  TheMat.com also previews the Women’s World Cup, as Team USA features World Champions Adeline Gray, Tamyra Mensah-Stock and Jacarra Winchester.  United World Wrestling also provides an advance of the event, featuring World and Olympic champion Risako Kawai, written by an American journalist in Tokyo, Ken Marantz for UWW.  The saga of Anthony Echemendia, the Cuban-born Arizona high school star and his commitment has come to a close. Wrestling’s resident online antagonist Willie Saylor of MatScouts has a position on it via Rokfin, which this story is free. There you go Smalls. Oh, he’s going to be a Buckeye.  Sam Herring, the 13-year-old who’s one half of the Home Mat Advantage Podcast, previews the Bill Farrell at 57kg. Yes, I’m including content from a 13-year-old, because he deserves it.  The kid’s taking Latin. It might be a dead language, but how many of us actually know any more than a few words of Spanish? Come on. And yelling “rouge passive” doesn’t count, Rob Prebish. CoSIDA Recognition Week was November 6-12. CoSIDA is the membership organization for media relations professionals in college sports, and as the acronym says, the College Sports Information Directors of America. One of those awesome SIDs who makes our jobs easier is Michigan’s Leah Howard. She pens a piece on Michigan Hall of Famer John Fisher, which you can read at MGoBlue.com. Delaware Valley University announced world bronze medalist Leigh Jaynes as the program’s new full-time women’s wrestling coach. The school was set to launch a program this season, but a number of hurdles prevented that from happening - none of which seem to be public knowledge. Previous coach Caitlyn Baker left her position before the program got rolling.  The Pennsylvania RTC previews its athletes who are set to compete at the Bill Farrell International this weekend at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan. Flowrestling’s David Bray gets in on the Farrell chatter, previewing the six women’s weights.  It’s National Signing Day across the country. Flowrestling has a Division I signing day to follow all week as the early signing period has commenced.  InterMat features Beat the Streets Chicago wrestler Kaila Del Toro, the first All-American from BTS Chicago.  Bo Nickal’s plans after 2020 are clear - he’s going the MMA route. Bo went on the Luke Thomas Show he plans on bringing an American Top Team gym to State College and train out of there instead of relocating.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette highlights the powerhouse program at Pitt-Johnstown and head coach Pat Pecora. The Mountain Cats are loaded with talent from Western Pennsylvania and coach Pecora is 15 victories shy of tying the all-time coaching dual meet record, set by the late Dale Thomas.  More stuff from The Daily Pennsylvanian! This time a feature on Penn head coach Roger Reina. Good stuff from Philly this week.  On The Network Virginia Tech head coach Tony Robie talks about the big signees that came the Hokies way on the Episode 90 of Inside Virginia Tech Wrestling. Listen, to learn from Sam Herring, CEO & Co-Founder of Seattle-based ed tech leader Intrepid by VitalSource on how researching the individual stories of Wild West characters shaped a vision for educational tech achievement; why there really won’t be a Dr Evil with a pinkie in his mouth controlling the Learning software market; where the $40 billion that got invested in ed tech these past 20 years really went; why not a lot of the ‘thousand ed tech’ flower start-ups will ever probably bloom; why setting up a content library really isn’t all you gotta do to become a good CLO; why small-bore thinking sucks; and finally, wow, platform/services, LMS/LXP… is that still the right question if we drop a recession on it all?

Recent research from CLO Media shows that the number one performance metric reported by Chief Learning Officers for learning initiatives is employee engagement. But is this the right metric? Does engagement truly encapsulate how people learn, the impact on the business, and other critical factors?  To answer this question, host Ben Eubanks sits down with Sam Herring, VP and General Manager for Intrepid by VitalSource. Sam has a long track record in learning technology and services and a well-rounded outlook on the profession. In the conversation, Ben and Sam talk about the pros and cons of engagement as a learning metric, how mission-focused learning can lead to better results, and the importance of learning journeys.  If your team is thinking about how learning can partner more closely with the business this year and in the future, Sam's insightful takeaways at the end of the show offer some spectacular guidance to that end.  Follow Sam on Twitter: https://twitter.com/samuelherring Check out Intrepid Learning online: https://www.intrepidlearning.com/learning-library  Check out Ben's newly released book, Artificial Intelligence for HR: http://aihrbook.com/buy

Jazz music from Gregory Porter, Daymé Arocena, Jeff Parker, Mammal Hands, Terrace Martin, Miles Mosley, Moses Boyd + an exclusive from Jordan Rakei's forthcoming debut album 'Cloak' feat. Hola DigHeads!! On today's episode we have the very talented rapper, 83 Cutlass! Josh and Mike once flipped burgers with this young man whom they knew as Chad. Chad tells the boys all about his career in the world of local hip-hop including his recent collaborations with Baltimore musicians Dan Deacon and Sam Herring from Future Islands (Sam raps as well!). He also explains just why his honest form of lyrical content gets so dang dark and gritty at times. And the 3 recount their former lives as part of a local Bmore eatery with arguably cult-like ties! My guest this week is Sam Herring, the frontman of Future Islands. In addition to his role in Future Islands, Sam also rhymes under the name Hemlock Ernst and fronts The Snails. Sam breaks down his early years as a rapper, and how he was inspired by west coast underground hip-hop. We talk about his early days in the band Art Lord and The Self-Portraits, and their stronghold in their home base of Greenville, NC in the early 2000’s. He breaks down how his personal struggles forced him to leave town and put music on hold, and how he got himself together and formed Future Islands with his old bandmates. This episode was laid down at the Lineup Room. Mike Riley’s art for this episode is an homage to Straight Out The Jungle by The Jungle Brothers.
