What if the key to better relationships starts with how you treat yourself? In this soul-stirring episode, Wendy sits down with the brilliant Monica Berg—international speaker, Kabbalistic teacher, and author of Rethink Love, Fear is Not an Option, and The Gift of Being Different—to dive into the transformational concept of self-parenting. From healing childhood wounds to challenging limiting beliefs, Monica shares her personal journey of overcoming anorexia, perfectionism, and shame to become a “change junkie” who now helps others reclaim their inner light. Together, Wendy and Monica explore how to distinguish compromise from sacrifice, why purpose isn't always a job title, and how taking radical responsibility can lead to spiritual freedom. Plus, you'll learn why sharing love might just be the most selfish (and soul-fueling) thing you can do.
Empathy is one of the most powerful skills we can teach our children — but it can feel like such a big, important topic. You might wonder, "Where do we start?" In today's fast-paced, often self-focused world, raising empathetic kids takes intention, awareness, and ongoing conversation. It's something that I find incredibly important, so that's why in this episode of Chick Chat, I sit down with Monica Berg to explore how parents can begin introducing and nurturing empathy in their children from a young age. Monica shares her wisdom on age-appropriate strategies, the impact empathy has on relationships, and how to model it through our own daily actions. Who is Monica Berg? Monica Berg is an international speaker, spiritual thought leader, bestselling author (Fear is Not an Option, Rethink Love, and The Gift of Being Different), and co-host of the Spiritually Hungry podcast. A self-proclaimed “Change Junkie,” Monica is a fresh voice that channels her many years of kabbalistic study along with personal life experiences. Monica shows individuals how to create a life that not only feels like it's working but, most importantly, a life in which they are living and loving as the powerful, fulfilled person they've always wanted to be. What Did We Discuss? In this episode, I chat with Monica about empathy in children, why it's important, and when to introduce the concept. Here are several of the questions that we covered in our conversation: How did you become passionate about spirituality? How would you define empathy? How should we talk about empathy and introduce the concept of it to our children? Are there age-appropriate strategies that you recommend? How can developing empathy at a young age influence a child's future relationships and social interactions? How can parents create a safe space for children to express their emotions and develop empathy? What are some strategies parents can use at home to encourage their children to talk about their feelings? How should parents approach the topic of empathy with children who may struggle to understand others' feelings? What long-term benefits do you see in children who grow up with a strong sense of empathy? What's one piece of advice you would offer to parents who are ready to teach their child(ren) about empathy? As you know, teaching empathy isn't a one-time conversation. It's a lifelong practice that starts at home. And, as Monica reminded us, creating a safe, emotionally rich environment where children feel seen and heard is key to helping them grow into compassionate, self-aware adults. Whether your child is a toddler just beginning to understand feelings or a tween navigating friendships, it's never too early — or too late — to nurture empathy in our children. I hope this episode inspires you to lead with love, listen more deeply, and model the kind of empathy we all want to see more of in the world. How good are you at telling the difference between a fling and the real thing? In this episode of This Is Woman's Work, we're diving deep into relationship red flags and how to spot them early to avoid future heartache. Our guest, Monica Berg, author of Fear Is Not an Option, Rethink Love, and The Gift of Being Different, brings her unique insights to the conversation. Monica co-hosts the Spiritually Hungry Podcast and serves as Co-Director & Chief Communications Officer for Kabbalah Centre International. Known for her authenticity and fearless approach, she encourages us to recognize our extraordinary potential while navigating the complexities of relationships with compassion and clarity. Let's be honest: even the best relationships have rough patches. They require courage, honesty, and a lot of self-awareness. The key is paying attention to what people show you consistently—it's usually more telling than what they say. Ignoring red flags only invites future heartache. The relationships we choose, whether romantic or platonic, are powerful reflections of the life we're building. If your relationship is one where both people are winning, keep putting in the work, keep communicating, and keep choosing each other. And if it's not? You know what needs to be done—move on. Love is not something we need to find, accumulate, or protect. It is something that we inherently possess, and the only way to receive it fully is to give it away. We have to throw away our misconceptions of what relationships are in order to embrace what they can be. Rethink Love emphasizes taking responsibility for the quality of your relationships while offering practical pathways to immediate, long-lasting solutions for improving them. Every person is worthy of being loved, and every relationship has the potential to bring lasting fulfillment. These are the brilliant insights from this week's guest, Monica Berg. Monica is the author of Rethink Love, Fear is Not an Option, The Gift of Being Different children's book, co-host of the popular Spiritually Hungry podcast, a globally sought-after speaker and a researcher of human habits that hold us back.On this guest episode, Monica and I explore some of the fantastic concepts from her book, Rethink Love. Monica shares how we can rethink the very definition of love. With the tools and insights Monica offers, single, partnered, and married individuals she shares how her work enables people to enhance the love they give, appreciate the love they receive, & build the framework for a lasting and fulfilling relationship. We get into what Monica calls the Big 3 (shame, blame, guilt) that keep us from self love and how we can learn to embrace the missteps that lead us to love. Monica Berg is the author of Rethink Love, Fear is Not an Option, The Gift of Being Different children's book, co-host of the popular Spiritually Hungry podcast, a globally sought-after speaker and a researcher of human habits that hold us back. For over 20 years, she has counseled thousands of individuals and couples (even attending 500+ weddings of couples she's advised) and has been happily married to a Rabbi for 25 years. Here comes Sword 5 and it's a deep one... Shame. The heaviness of Shame lies in the fact that it is truly insidious & creates fear in us at a cellular level. The fear that there is something inherently wrong with us, that we are bad, and that it's only a matter of time before everyone finds out. Shame can also be spurned from things that happen to us which feel too terrible and unacceptable that we can never let anyone know. We keep them buried deep inside with the resulting shame of these experiences eating us up. It's unpleasant and devastating & it's also all completely unnecessary as we are always completely unconditionally loved and safe just as we are. On this Identify & Heal solo episode I offer some insight into how shame can first be created within us and then take over our ability to feel free & safe in who we are. I distinguish between embarrassment & shame, offer resources on identifying and releasing shame, & provide encouragement that just because the pain and belief is deep it doesn't mean we can't reclaim our unconditional, perfect selves and thrive. Today's guest is Monica Berg. She's an international speaker, spiritual thought leader, the author of Fear Is Not An Option and Rethink Love, and the host of the Spiritually Hungry podcast. She joins us for an extra special episode as my husband and The Big Silence Executive Handyman, Bobby Goldstein, sits with me for a mini therapy session that's revealing, honest, and at times, a little uncomfortable. No one said the good work would be easy, after all. Still, it's important to share these kinds of moments. No relationship is perfect and that's okay. Monica walks us through some thought exercises with regard to our relationship and opens a few doors that have us thinking we'll go back to her in the future. As mental illness also runs in her family, we share and compare our experiences with the very real social stigma of the generation. She gives listeners a few powerful questions to keep top of mind as a grounding practice throughout the day, dishes on self-parenting in a special needs household, unpacks the root of fear within us, and drops three tips for maximizing your potential: Appreciation for waking up (gratitude practice) Intentions (of what you want the day to be) Include an aspect of kindness and sharing within your day We also talk about her new children's book coming out in October, The Gift of Being Different (pre-order below), and she has a great story about her own children that she shares in the podcast – no spoilers! She battled and overcame a debilitating eating disorder at a young age and as a mother of four children, one of whom has special needs, she has become an outspoken advocate for him and others struggling to find their voice. Monica and her husband co-host The Spiritually Hungry podcast which is truly brilliant. She also serves as Chief Communications Officer of The Kabbalah Centre International. Monica's book on love is a highlighter at the ready book. Love is something which is confusing me lately as I'm only just beginning to understand the full extent of what that word really means. It's far from what Disney told me many years ago. It's a true honour to have such a profound spiritual thought leader on the show today. Happy Furry Friday! We’re discussing the “Let’s Fix This” free spay and neuter program with Maura Davies of the SPCA of Texas, and Monica Berg, author of “”Rethink Love”, teaches us how to be our own Valentine this year. Maura Davies Maura Davies, Vice President of Communications for the SPCA of Texas, discusses “Let’s Fix This”, a free spay and neuter program for over 20 zip codes in the Dallas area. Dallas has had a huge issue with dog bites and stray dogs in certain areas of the city. The SPCA commissioned a study of the areas and concluded that a free spay and neuter program would help lessen the number of bites and strays, but affordable veterinary services weren’t readily available. Since the program began, the SPCA has spayed and neutered over 55,000 dogs and cats. Education is important, but Davies says that networking has been key to the programs success, building trust and partnerships within the groups in the areas where the services are needed most. It’s a labor of love for everyone involved. And, this Valentine’s Day, Davies reminds us that chocolate is bad for our pets. Under no circumstances should you give your dog chocolate. If they get into some by accident, watch for any unusual behaviors and call your vet for advice. To learn more about the “Let’s Fix This” free spay and neuter program, visit lets-fix-this.org Monica Berg- Be Your Own Valentine Monica Berg joins us for Valentine’s to give us some great advice on how to be our own Valentine. Berg is the chief communications officer of The Kabbalah Centre International and the author of “Rethink Love” and “Fear is Not an Option”. Berg says we aren’t really aware of our own past and our own story. Self-knowledge and honesty are so important before you can be in a healthy relationship. We sometimes rely on the other person to fulfill what we’re missing, when we need to look within ourselves. We need to understand that a successful life is a messy one. Women can be very critical about themselves because they are expected to be successful in every aspect of their lives; education, home life, relationships career and more. Women seek validation externally and need to only look for their own approval. If we base relationships on external elements like what the other person has, we’re setting ourselves up for failure. If you’re feeling out of balance, anxious, angry or bitter, you aren’t in tune with yourself. Introspection is key. Ask yourself what you want and don’t be afraid to admit it. Check in with yourself every day and ask if you’re OK ad if not, what do you need? Like attracts like, so whoever you want to attract, become that person. Thank You! Thank you to Monica Berg and Maura Davies for coming on One Life Radio today! And, don’t forget to visit lets-fix-this.org, the SPCA’s free spay and neuter program to see if you qualify, or find ways you can help. Thank you to all of our One Life Radio listeners. In This Episode You Will Learn About: Dealing with fear instead of letting it hold you back Challenging your belief systems Learning to love yourself Knowing when to leave your partner Having illusions of who you’ll be in a relationship Learning each others communication styles Growing your relationship to its ultimate potential Resources: Learn more: rethinklife.today Read: “Rethink Love” Read: “Fear Is Not An Option” Instagram: instagram.com/monicaberg74 Facebook: facebook.com/monicaberg74 Twitter: twitter.com/monicaberg74 Show Notes: The models that we’ve had in the past for loving ourselves, loving our family, and loving our lives have completely changed. In her latest book, “Rethink Love,” Monica Berg challenges everything we know about our belief systems around love and relationships. The more perspective that you can have, the more powerful you are in your life and the more connected you feel. Question Highlights: Are you using a lot of the tools you came up with in your first book? What if people feel like fear is a part of their personality? Why did you focus on love for your latest book? When do you know that it’s time to leave a relationship? How do you move from fear to possibility? Guest Bio: Monica Berg is a CHANGE JUNKIE and she wants to challenge the way you think about EVERYTHING. In her first book, FEAR IS NOT AN OPTION, she challenged readers to eradicate fear from their lives. In her latest book, RETHINK LOVE, she uses years of personal experience teaching and counseling to eradicate false belief systems around love and relationships. Monica is a mother, wife, sister, teacher, and friend, who integrates all that she is into her mission and as Chief Communications Officer of The Kabbalah Centre, she integrates her personal mission with this ancient wisdom. Monica was born and raised in Louisiana before moving to Los Angeles. At 17, she began studying Kabbalah and knew very quickly that this was her path, eventually leading her to the serendipitous meeting of Michael Berg, her now-husband of 21 years. During her teen years, Monica developed an eating disorder that grew into a five-year battle with anorexia and body dysmorphia. With her recovery came a better understanding of the disease and a passion to help others. However, it wasn’t until her second child was born that Monica had to reevaluate her own belief system. Her son, Joshua, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome shortly after his birth, which was life-changing for Monica and her family. The diagnosis led to Monica’s credo, “In change, there is great power,” and the choice to believe in the beauty and potential of who her son could become and subsequently who she could become. Monica aims to challenge people and encourages them to reframe what they think they know and she’s seen the results of rethinking first hand. Monica learns from her students as often as they from her. “I’m inspired by everyone that I come into contact with,” Monica says, “Everyone has something valuable to share and we can derive meaning from each encounter.” When she’s not writing, lecturing, or working with students at the centre, Monica contributes her time and voice to Habitat for Humanity and Something For Kelly. While she is passionate about helping all people feel empowered, she is especially committed to organizations that support women, particularly those with a mission focused on overcoming eating disorders. Monica currently resides in New York City with her husband Michael and their children David, Joshua, Miriam, and Abigail. Her second book, Rethink Love, will be out on February 11, 2020.

Monica Berg is back to discuss her book "Rethink Love." Rethinking Love With Monica Berg Monica Berg is here to help us divulge our feelings surrounding love. Becoming intimate too early can confuse the brain and not allow you to make logical decisions about the relationship. Always remember to practice mindfulness! Our brain can lie to us, so remember to pay attention to relationship red flags. Communication and dedication are what makes relationships fun, so remember to take time to enjoy the little things. Marni welcomes speaker, author, self-described change junkie, Monica Berg into the Dating Den. Monica is the Chief Communications Officer of the Kabbalah Center. Her books, Fear is Not an Option and Rethink Love are guidebooks for those who desire transformation in their relationships and life. During this episode, she shares how knowing what we want for ourselves can help us to have better relationships and to make deeper connections with those we love. Key takeaways from this episode: How to accept and adapt to change Learn your fighting style How to have compassion for your partner Figure out how to be clear about what you want for yourself Relationships Aren’t Stable [3:58] Relationships are meant to grow and get better every year and it's all about perspective, says Monica. Even during quarantine, when we may be with our partners for 24-hours a day, she believes this is a great opportunity for us to look at the state of our lives and how we are living. Before the pandemic we all had the luxury of escape by going shopping or out for drinks with a friend. Now, we should take stock of the things we love about our lives. In her book, Rethink Love, Monica notes that relationships are not stable. There are supposed to be ups and downs, she says. Fighting is important in a relationship because it shows that you care and are passionate about it. Where people get stuck is that they have different fighting styles. If they are different they need to find one that works for both of them. Rethinking Change [5] We need to have a healthy respect for change because change is the only constant. In relationships there are two distinct personalities involved. This can add fun, opportunities, and excitement. But this also means there are a lot of differences. Take fighting styles for example. What kind of fighting style was each person exposed to when they were a child? How has that influenced their fighting style? Each person should look at what they want in their life. What is currently working and what is not? Monica recommends getting clear about what it is that you really want for yourself. Then create a To-Be list and a To-Do list. Be intentional Be flexible Do remove the ego Be curious about your partner Do carry yourself with integrity When fighting goes wrong you add a lot of hurt into a relationship. Emotional Intelligence [22:27] Emotional intelligence is the ability to manage your emotions and those of the people around you. Many of us don’t realize how our emotions affect other people. But, when you value someone and love them at their core you will find ways to have compassion and be generous. If you are stuck in a relationship, go back to friendship. Forget about it being romantic and what your traditional roles are. Think about how you treat a friend and are you treating your partner in the same manner. "You appreciate less and less and you feel that they owe you more and more. If they're your partner, your husband, your wife then they should do this. You stop seeing them as their own person and you see them as somebody who needs to fulfill all your wants, desires, hopes, dreams, etc. The big danger here is when you lose appreciation through a lot of expectation you feel like the love is lost. but it's not lost, you just can't access it anymore." - Monica Berg I am thrilled to introduce you to Monica Berg. Author and Change Junkie Monica Berg joins us to discuss how to find self love in a different way than you have ever heard, why looking at the relationship journey as a three step process and moving from “me” to “we” is crucial for a healthy love, what Tikkune is and why getting rid of your baggage goes deeper than you think, why the ego never wants you to apologize and it’s important to ask yourself whether you would rather be right or happy, how to recognize whether your relationship is worth rekindling, why if you can’t speak to yourself like you would speak to a 5 year old then you need to check yourself, and how the Cinderella Syndrome and hopes of finding a Prince will not happen IRL or solve your problems! Monica Berg is a CHANGE JUNKIE and she wants to challenge the way you think about EVERYTHING. In her first book, FEAR IS NOT AN OPTION, she challenged readers to eradicate fear from their lives. In her latest book, RETHINK LOVE, she uses years of personal experience teaching and counseling to eradicate false belief systems around love and relationships. Monica is a mother, wife, sister, teacher and friend, who integrates all that she is into her mission and as Chief Communications Officer of The Kabbalah Centre, she integrates her personal mission with this ancient wisdom. Monica was born and raised in Louisiana before moving to Los Angeles. At 17, she began studying Kabbalah and knew very quickly that this was her path, eventually leading her to the serendipitous meeting of Michael Berg, her now husband of 21 years. During her teen years, Monica developed an eating disorder that grew into in a five-year battle with anorexia and body dysmorphia. With her recovery came a better understanding of the disease and a passion to help others. However, it wasn’t until her second child was born that Monica had to reevaluate her own belief system. Her son, Joshua, was diagnosed with Down Syndrome shortly after his birth, which was life changing for Monica and her family. She is currently putting the finishing touches on her second book, Rethink Love. https://rethinklife.today
