This is part 2 of our memorial podcasts about Robin Jones who dies on May 21, 2024. The photo of him is one I took in 2014 while at the funeral of John Ross Schroeder in Watford, Hertfordshire. UK. Look at the end of this note for links referred to in the podcast. Here's what I wrote initially on Facebook: I was saddened to hear about the death of long-time minister Robin Jones from the United Kingdom. He died unexpectedly on May 21, 2024 at the age of 88. I took this photo of Mr. Jones at the funeral of John Ross Schroeder on March 20, 2014, in the United Kingdom. While there we got together for dinner to discuss many things that have happened in our lives in 50 years. Robin Jones was a pillar of the Church, serving as faculty at Ambassador College in Bricket Wood during my two years there. His was the Faculty Advisor to the Portfolio, the College newspaper I worked for. I was fortunate to be part of the student's trip to Israel in June 1969 which, he led. As as senior I was on the Church visiting programme and visited brethren in the London area with regularity with him. It's been an honor to know him and his wife Shirley who preceded him. _____________________ Links: Robin Jones sermon on March 2, 2014 about the History of the Work Part 1 - The life of Robin Jones as told by son Rolfe and daughter Danielle Feith. Robin Jones, from the United Kingdom, left this earthly life on May 21, 2024. He touched thousands of people worldwide, including my classmates at Ambassador College and beyond. His son Rolfe and daughter Danielle give compelling testimonials that tell the story of their father's legacy on so many of us. Hear tributes from Gerhard Marx, Aaron Dean, Melvin Rhodes, and Ken Murray. Stay tuned for PART 2!
Robin Jones moved to Florida at the tail end of 2017 to pursue a burgeoning career in CDI. And ever since has done nothing but climb the professional ladder. Leaving behind her home in Cincinatti Ohio and a decorated career in CDI at Mercy Health, Robin started over as Division Director of CDI at AdventHealth West Florida in November 2017. A few years later she was promoted to Director of Clinical Excellence. You might recall that she joined me for an episode of Off the Record in November 2022 to talk about this change. Three months ago she was promoted again, this time to Vice President of Clinical Excellence & Education. And I knew it was time for a return visit. We get into her flourishing career and the broader CDI program at AdventHealth West Florida on today's Off the Record. On this show we cover: Promotion to VP of Clinical Excellence and Education and what it entails New VP level leadership responsibilities, and what new skills Robin had to cultivate to meet them What she had to give up to accept this new role, and the challenges of delegation Commitment to hybrid onsite/remote CDI and a unit-based model of coverage Winning a Leapfrog Emerald Award, AdventHealth's emphasis on public report cards and how CDI can make an impact Retaining and building the workforce of tomorrow

Blue Rain Gallery proudly presents “Arkteia,” an upcoming exhibition of new paintings by Robin Jones. This remarkable showcase will adorn our gallery walls from October 27 to November 11, 2023, with an in-person artist reception on the opening night, Friday, October 27, from 5-7 p.m. “Arkteia" invites viewers to embark on a journey where art blends with advocacy, where Jones' deep-rooted philosophy about the interconnectedness of all living things is given vibrant expression. Paying homage to the series' ancient namesake, Arkteia presents captivating portraits of modern-day arktoi, pre-adolescent girls coexisting alongside animals and serving as vital links between humanity and the natural world. Robin Jones says of her contemporary arktoi, “I depict girls from all over the world, focusing on representing indigenous cultures that are suffering disproportionately from the climate crisis.” Many of Jones' subjects are from places like Myanmar and Kenya that are experiencing the harshest effects of ongoing climate chaos. As well, the animal companions in her pieces are poignant reminders of the countless beings imperiled by humanity's shortsighted domination of nature. Jones' true-to-life figures are powerful, sometimes confrontational, evoking compassion, curiosity, and a desire for unity while challenging viewers to reflect on their own actions and responsibilities. COR2ED Medical Education: In this podcast, Prof. Jonathan Trent and Prof. Robin Jones discuss what’s new in the patient management in sarcoma from CTOS 2022. The Connective Tissue Oncology Society is an international group of physicians and scientists with a primary interest in the tumours of connective tissues. With nearly 600 attendees, 10 sessions specific for sarcoma, and over 300 posters, CTOS 2022 took place between November 16 and 19 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Clinical practice and patient management highlights covered in the podcast include insights from the DEFI study on desmoid tumour, the REECUR study for Ewing sarcoma, and the ENLIVEN study for gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). In addition, early studies with potential clinical impact are discussed. Prof. Jonathan Trent is Associate Director for Clinical Research, the Director of the Bone and Soft-tissue Sarcoma Group and Medical Director of the Precision Medicine Initiative at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in the University of Miami Health System, Miami, FL, USA. Prof. Robin Jones is Head of the Sarcoma Unit at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.
What prompts a nurse working at the bedside to get into clinical documentation integrity (CDI)? Long, draining shifts, and burnout, are among a few that I've heard. Others include a desire to put their clinical acumen and physician communication skills to work in a different, less physically demanding capacity, but one that still engages the intellect. Robin Jones' origin story is one worth hearing. It's powerful, the most moving I've heard of to date on Off the Record. I won't spoil it any further, you'll have to listen yourself. This was a great interview. I've known Robin for many years, and we get into some good topics and conversation. While the move these days is toward 100% remote CDI and coding, Jones, Executive Director of Clinical Excellence for the 13 hospitals in the West Florida Division of AdventHealth, spearheads a quality-focused program, one that places a particular focus on Leapfrog and other quality measures. To help with these intensive initiatives, its CDI program is hybrid and maintains an onsite/physician-facing component. Although she's left the bedside behind Jones has not abandoned nursing—far from it. In fact, she oversees all clinical education in the organization's West Florida division, including its graduate nurse residency program. She is actively giving back to the next generation of caregivers. We cover her decision to pack up and move halfway across the country, from Ohio to Florida. That decision meant a minor recent brush with Hurricane Ian. We discuss introversion vs. extroversion (introverts—shout out!) and empty nesting. Finally, Jones is a massive Cincinnati Bengals fan, who may or may not think Joe Burrow may be our nation's president one day. Or maybe that was the host egging her on. I don't recall. What's most interesting about Jones' football obsession is not the Xs and Os, or painted game face, but the fact that she uses this great game to teach lessons and lead a diverse group of people. She offers up some great advice on leadership, giving me three bullets with practiced ease that each have a lot behind them. Give episode 5 of Off the Record a listen, and please let me know what you think of this episode and the podcast in general. Guest ideas and other suggestions welcomed.

ROBIN JONES You Were Born With Wings October 28 – November 12, 2022 Artist Reception: Friday, October 28th from 5 - 7pm https://blueraingallery.com/event/new-paintings-21 In this body of work, I'm continuing my focus on endangered species-with a specific focus on winged species- and climate change, as well as celebrating the beauty of the natural world. I also focus on indigenous populations- they tend to bear the brunt of climate change destruction and they also hold ancestral wisdom and practices used in caring for the land sustainably. In some of the work I've included flora and fauna native to both the human and non-human animals portrayed. Climate change is the number one threat we face at the present time and thus I feel compelled to visually carry this message through my work. The current mass extinction event, a result of human-caused climate change, is something that I also feel compelled to document- my sincere hope is that I'm not painting species that will one day be gone from our world, but as a wake-up call to save them. We are all interconnected, we need each other- for healthy ecosystems and for survival. With awareness comes care, with care comes action. “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” -Jane Goodall View available work by Robin Jones: https://blueraingallery.com/artists/robin-jones

Meet Robin Jones in this week's episode of the Blue Rain Gallery Podcast. Her show "One Thread" opens at Blue Rain Gallery October 29th with an Artist Reception from 5-7pm. ... Robin Jones left her career in the theater to paint. It came as a pivot in her life when she was trapped at home for two weeks during Hurricane Ike when she was living in Houston. This forced time at home inspired her to paint large abstract and figurative paintings, and she has focused on painting ever since. Jones's paintings are realistic portraits, both of young people and endangered animals, and sometime historical figures too. Young people, Jones feels “will inherit the planet that we leave them—and they are also among the strongest and most influential voices in the climate change and animal liberation movements.” She paints on aluminum rather than canvas, and often incorporates gold leaf into the overall composition. Jones says “I love using metal leaf in my paintings for multiple reasons. These metals are of the earth, they are considered ‘precious', and therefore I feel they give a reverential quality to the subject matter (similar to the Madonna and Child paintings of the Gothic/Proto-Renaissance). I also love, aesthetically, the way the light reflects off of the metal, changing as the light in the space shifts.” Her new series, One Thread, continues to honor the above key elements. The paintings are at once fresh and vibrant, yet profound and poetic. Robin Jones is an artist on the rise, and her work carries a message deserving of an audience. Do not miss an opportunity to see her new series of paintings at Blue Rain Gallery in October. Available Works ... Hosted by Leroy Garcia Produced by Leah Garcia Music by Mozart Gabriel Abeyta

We recorded this episode the day after two mass shootings killed at least 31 people and injured dozens of others in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. Were the young, white males who perpetrated these hateful, horrible acts suffering from mental illness? Perhaps, but not necessarily. Robin Jones, Director of the Great Lakes ADA Center (Americans with Disabilities Act) talked with us about her work training, consulting and providing technical assistance to business, schools, employers , architects, families and individuals related to disabilities. Handicapped parking, wheelchair ramps and accessible bathrooms are just the beginning. "The reality," says Jones, "is that most disabilities are invisible to others, including learning disabilities and mental illness." And how about the growing number of so-called "emotional support" pets on airplanes? Robin has insight on that, too. Robin's broad understanding of the many issues surrounding human ability made Monica and me realize that we all have abilities and disabilities! The challenge is to make sure we are providing the assistance and services people need to use all of their abilities and we do not stigmatize individuals for getting help.
