Our guest this week is a Surfer, Snowboarder, Moto-Head, and sometimes a model. But we're not here to talk about his athleticism, his good looks, or his style. He's a self-made man who paid his dues as a Hollywood movie set builder before becoming an entrepreneur and successful businessman. He made his mark designing and fabricating retail stores, trade-show exhibits, and custom retail fixtures through his full-service design firm, Studio Concepts. Their success came from partnering with major brands across multiple industries, and after more than 20+ years, he and his business partner sold the company.His next venture put him at the forefront of California's move toward legalized marijuana agriculture. Ryan Wedding is now at the centre of one of the biggest international crime investigations in the world. He's wanted in connection with multiple drug and conspiracy crimes, including ordering and orchestrating murder. He's one of the FBI's most wanted criminals and there's a reward of up to $10 million US for any information that could help catch him. In the 2024–25 season, he was one of 11 individuals honored at Steamboat Ski Resort in Colorado for making at least one run every single day—148 consecutive days on the mountain. A Montana native with a forestry degree from Missoula and a background in organic farming, Paul moved to Steamboat seven years ago to pursue his love of snowboarding full-time. He started a private car service that allows him to work winter mornings after hitting the slopes early. In summer, he mountain bikes across the West—from Moab to Montana—often traveling solo in his camper. Over 50 and thriving, Paul has transformed his life from a strictly-disciplined life of organic farming to seasonal freedom, adventure, and health. Alex Deibold is an Olympic medalist with over 100 World Cup starts under his belt. Alex's success began at the Stratton Mountain School, and then he made the US Team at 18.  While he was on the team, he never totally fit in. Before we roll into this episode full steam, here's some basic information: this interview was recorded in the fall of 2023. That was when a group from the US, including Jimmy Chin and Jim Morrison, planned to approach Mount Everest's north side to attempt to ski the Hornbein Couloir. The project was part of a larger documentary project. This past fall, in 2024, that team made another attempt but was reportedly stymied by poor conditions. All this is to say that back in 2023, skiing the Hornbein popped up in the news cycle. Around then, I reached out to Jeremy Evans for an interview. He's the author of an excellent book I read titled See You Tomorrow: The Disappearance of Snowboarder Marco Siffredi on Everest. This episode of The High Route podcast is that interview with Jeremy Evans, the Tahoe-based author of this good read. We mostly discuss the book and the protagonist, Macro Siffredi. Siffredi was a Chamonix-based snowboarder who arrived on the extreme descent scene with extraordinary flare in the late 1990s. In 2002, Siffredi disappeared as he descended the Hornbein Couloir on Everest's North Side.
