Toward the end of the twentieth century, an unprecedented surge of writing altered the Israeli literary scene in profound ways. As fresh creative voices and multiple languages vied for recognition, diversity replaced consensus. Genres once accorded lower status—such as the graphic novel and science fiction—gained readership and positive critical notice. These trends ushered in not only the discovery and recovery of literary works but also a major rethinking of literary history. In Since 1948: Israeli Literature in the Making (SUNY Press, 2020), scholars consider how recent voices have succeeded older ones and reverberated in concert with them; how linguistic and geographical boundaries have blurred; how genres have shifted; and how canon and competition have shaped Israeli culture. Charting surprising trajectories of a vibrant, challenging, and dynamic literature, the contributors analyze texts composed in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Arabic; by Jews and non-Jews; and by Israelis abroad as well as writers in Israel. What emerges is a portrait of Israeli literature as neither minor nor regional, but rather as transnational, multilingual, and worthy of international attention. Nancy E. Berg is Professor of Hebrew and Comparative Literature at Washington University in St. Louis. Her previous books include Exile from Exile: Israeli Writers from Iraq,, also published by SUNY Press. Naomi B. Sokoloff is Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization at the University of Washington. Her previous books include Imagining the Child in Modern Jewish Fiction. Together, Berg and Sokoloff are the coeditors of What We Talk about When We Talk about Hebrew (and What It Means to Americans), winner of the National Jewish Book Award for anthologies and collections. Legendary strategist Kiril Sokoloff, founder and Chairman of 13D Research, joins Alan Dunne in this episode for a whirlwind tour of where Kiril sees the risks and opportunities in global markets over the next decade. Kiril outlines the reasons behind his belief that the secular bull market in bonds is over and a secular bear market is now underway. They discuss implications of climate change decarbonisation, the ageing global economy, rising debt levels and the growing risk of a significant derailment of the global economy from protectionism. Kiril explains why he is bullish oil, copper, uranium and gold and why gold mining stocks are the cheapest asset on the planet and his top contrarian call. They discuss China's current economic challenges and why Kiril remains upbeat on the longer-term outlook for China and Chinese stocks but why there may be even greater opportunities in India. -----EXCEPTIONAL RESOURCE: Find Out How to Build a Safer & Better Performing Portfolio using this FREE NEW Portfolio Builder Tool-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “The Many Flavors of Trend Following” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Alan on Twitter.Follow Kiril's work on 13D.Episode TimeStamps: 02:31 - Introduction to Kiril Sokoloff05:21 - Are we heading back to "normal"?11:17 - Will China become an inflationary force?14:30 - Is China still investable?17:05 - A Chinese confidence crisis18:45 - The outlook for inflation from a historical perspective23:13 - What is going on in the oil market?25:45 - What drives the shift towards solar energy in China?27:57 - The move towards nuclear energy29:55 -...

When this is over there will be an encyclopedia of heroism because there were thousands of heroic moments..." In his latest "Search for Meaning" podcast episode, Rabbi Yoshi speaks with Yitzhak Sokoloff, an Israeli political analyst and founder of educational travel company, Keshet. Sokoloff, a resident of Efrat in the Etzion bloc and of Yerucham, re-enlisted in the IDF at age 69 immediately after the October 7 massacre. Yitzhak speaks about the twin goals of destroying Hamas and saving the hostages — and the potential consequences if Israel can't achieve both. Rabbi Yoshi recorded this episode on his most recent trip to Israel, which happened to fall during the short-lived cease-fire. His only chance to speak at length with Yitzhak was on their drive together from Tel Aviv to a military base near the Gaza border, where they learned how soldiers use reconnaissance drones to avoid the loss of civilian life and protect IDF soldiers.

Though she would pen the occasional tune for her younger sibling, it was screen roles in such television hits as Chicago Hope, Boston Public, and (alongside her sister) Lizzie McGuire that first opened the eyes of the public to the talents of the ambitious rising starlet. Born just two years prior to her sister, Haylie made her screen debut alongside Hilary in the female Western True Women before branching out into features with supporting performances in Dreams in the Attic and I Love Your Work. It was during this period of her career that Haylie would contribute to the soundtracks of such films as A Cinderella Story, Stuck in the Suburbs, and Raising Helen, with a memorable performance in the cult hit Napoleon Dynamite serving well to offer her some indie exposure in addition to her mainstream success. A subsequent return to the small screen found Haylie making a notable impression in That's So Raven, Joan of Arcadia, and 7th Heaven, and in 2006 it was finally time to join Hilary on the big screen (as sisters no less) for the riches-to-rags comedy Material Girls. Also that same year, Haylie made her Broadway debut as the character Amber Von Tussle in the musical Hairspray. In 2008 Haylie hosted the MTV reality competition show Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods, in which singers competed to star in the upcoming production of the Broadway musical of the hit film Legally Blonde.

On this episode, we meet with legendary financial icon Kiril Sokoloff to take a bird's eye view of the global energy/financial situation. Why is the financial community so complacent about peak oil and the relationship between increasing energy scale and growth? Can we make predictions about the future by looking back at history? Kiril shares his professional experiences with scenario planning, disruption, and investing as well as his passion for history and the practice of Buddhism to influence and inform decision making and life. About Kiril Sokoloff: Kiril is an investor, a researcher, and long-time editor of the highly respected weekly publication “13D – What I Learned this Week”. For 50 years he has predicted major inflection points in energy and commodity prices correctly including 1980, 2002, and 2008 and recently stated sanctions on Russia will result in economic suicide for Europe. Kiril is active in philanthropy in areas of healthcare, education, and the scaling of human consciousness.
Get Opto's best content every day, by subscribing to our FREE Newsletter: www.cmcmarkets.com/en/opto/newsletterThis week I have the great honor of welcoming the distinguished investor Kiril Sokoloff, CEO & Founder of 13D which he started back in 1983.Kiril is an original thinker who has achieved phenomenal success over his decades of investing, often by going against the consensus. He is also a big advocate of thematic investing and has said “Over the last 40 years I don't think we missed a single major technological transformation”.In the late 1970s, he correctly anticipated an inflationary blow-off due to the fall of the Shah in Iran. In the early 1980s, he foresaw a period of disinflation and an ensuing takeover boom that nobody was prepared for. His firm became the expert in 13D filings and between 1983 and 1986, 175 of his firm's recommendations were taken over. He then understood the great opportunity China in 1992 represented and co-founded the first pure Asian hedge fund during a period when the Hang Seng rose from 4900 to 12000. This was followed among over achievements by investing in internet and e-commerce companies in the 90s pre dot com crash and Oil in 2002 when it was only $20 dollars, riding the trend to over $140 at its peak in June 2008.In this interview, we discuss the current macro environment and the intricacies of his investment strategy including theories on Anomalies and Contagion plus the implications of the new world order and rethinking supply chains. This is one of my favorite interviews. Kiril is one of the few great investors of our time. 13d.comIf you're interested in receiving a daily update on thematic investing in the stocks where we keep you up to date on the next big thing, sign up to the Opto newsletter: www.cmcmarkets.com/en/opto/newsletterEnjoy Thanks to Cofruition for consulting on and producing the podcast. JC Parets · An Interview With Trader Kimmy Sokoloff : Conversations with JC Parets Today we sit down and chat with Professional Trader Kimmy Sokoloff. I'm lucky to have known Kimmy for well over a decade, and we hit it off from the start. Kimmy went through the CMT program in the 90s. And funny enough, volunteered later on with the CMT Association to grade Level 3 exams, which are mostly essays. We joke that she most likely graded mine in 2007-2008. While I like to look out weeks and months for my timeframes, Kimmy focuses specifically on the hours and days. A 2 week trade for her is “Long-term”. We're both trained in similar ways, as CMT Charter holders. But our experiences are different. Kimmy spent most of her career in Institutional Sales and Trading. She spent decades on the phones all day with huge funds. So when Kimmy has something to say, we want to listen. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Last summer, he was kind enough to host me at his home in Sun Valley, Idaho where we discussed much of the framework that makes up the foundation of Kiril's research and investment process. In this conversation, he shares how he applies this framework to the inflation debate and the most meaningful conclusions he has reached as a result of this process. Moreover, Kiril explains what it all means for the economy, markets and individual investors. For notes and links related to this conversation visit TheFelderReport.com.
