GM Andy Soltis is a U.S. Chess Hall of Famer, prolific author, and longtime Chess Life columnist who has left a lasting mark on American chess while balancing a decades-long career as an editor at the New York Post. His recent memoir, Deadline Grandmaster, retraces those parallel paths and shares remarkable stories such as playing a 16-year-old Vishy Anand, meeting Mikhail Tal, corresponding with Irving Chernev, and unknowingly crossing paths with Bobby Fischer. In our conversation, Andy revisits several of these moments and reflects on the challenges of chess improvement. We explore why players plateau, how to identify their own chess styles, and what today's players can learn from history's greats. Toward the end, Andy mulls his next project and discusses how chess publishing has evolved through the decades. It's always a privilege to hear Andy's stories, and I highly recommend Deadline Grandmaster for many more of them. This episode was recorded on October 16, 2025 and thus does not discuss the tragic news of GM Daniel Naroditsky's passing. 0:00- Thanks to our sponsor, Chessable.com! Juliana Soltis is an innovative cellist who has done extensive research to connect listeners with some forgotten stories of classical music. In this episode we talked about her recent album American Woman which features cello and piano music of women composers; you'll hear Juliana's insights into the lives of Mary Howe, Amy Beach, Margaret Bonds, Helen Crane, Dorothy Rudd Moore and Florence Price and hear excerpts from this album which Juliana recorded with the wonderful pianist Ruoting Li. Many listeners will be familiar with Juliana's playing as a Baroque cellist, and it was fascinating to hear about how the French relinquished their beloved viol relunctuantly to the Italian cello. I really love Juliana's recording of the complete Suites for solo cello of J.S. Bach and you'll hear some music from her album Going off Script: the Ornamented Suites for cello. Juliana shared great advice about performing from an athlete's perspective and also the joy of connecting with audiences. This interview begins with one of her beautiful greyhounds, and for those of you watching this on YouTube, hopefully you'll enjoy this comforting canine presence throughout this inspirational conversation. In this episode, we are discussing Ex-Wife by Ursula Parrott, a novel originally published in 1929 and a fascinating account of the experiences of women during the Jazz age. I'm joined by Juliana Soltis, an internationally acclaimed cellist, to discuss the book's continued relevance and its portrayal of female independence during the Jazz Age, akin to a 'Sex and the City' for that era. We also shed light on Parrott's obscured legacy in contrast to Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby.' Moreover, Juliana speaks about her new album American Woman, which highlights lost works by female composers, underscoring the importance of preserving and celebrating women's contributions to art and culture. We wrap up with a tasty note, enjoying a non-alcoholic gin fizz themed to the novel, reflecting Prohibition-era cocktail cultureJuliana Soltis is an internationally-acclaimed cellist, specializing in telling the forgotten stories of classical music. CXPA Marks CX Day, A Global CX Celebration, Podcast, Without customers you don't have revenue “Without customers you don't have revenue,” says Patty Soltis of Upwork and of the Florida Network and CXPA. At its core, customer experience, CX, is about the people that make ant business possible: the customers and their experiences, as customers. “It makes perfectly good sense to pay attention to the customer.” In this podcast we learn about a group, CXPA, the global association of CX professionals. Soltis is joined on this podcast by Graham Clark of MCorp.CX and the Florida Network, who tells us about CXPA and how it became the leading organization in the CX community. Also joining the podcast is Mark Daley, a recognized industry leader with decades of telecoms leadership experience, and who recently systematized the sectors of the emerging AI industry. CX Day 2023, a global day to celebrate the organizations, individuals, and customers. Soltis and Clark walk us through a deeper understanding of CX, from being what Soltis describes as a “shiny object”, to making CX central to corporate culture and what Clark calls as “foundational”: who is the customer, what does the customer want, how is the customer changing? We learn about the centrality of telecom to CX, since connectivity, communication and being understood are central to achieving CX. We learn about how people can walk through the CX door to making their organization more CX centered and how the CXPA offers resources for people at all stages of CX development. Today With Ray Soltis: Welcome to Window Treatments for Profit. Today I am joined by Ray Soltis, owner of Solatech. Ray founded Solatech in 1999 to provide powerful and practical software solutions for Window Treatment Retail Dealers and Fabricators and specializes in bringing them together. Ray understands how all of the different aspects of the window fashion industry can work together utilizing similar, if not the same, technology solutions and he's here to share all about how Solatech does just that. Pick It Apart [2:20] What Ray's business Solatech is all about. [12:16] Ray explains why Solatech is a more effective software system. [21:56] How it works when a manufacturer works with Solatech and how all of their pricing and information is populated. [29:35] Ray explains how soft treatments are also included with Solatech. [39:56] Ray explains what's available for the larger window treatment franchises. LuAnn Nigara and Ray Soltis's Ah-Ha Moments “Manufacturers sign up with Solatech to have their products supported accurately and professionally to their clients.” - Ray Soltis “Solatech is about collaboration. Partnership, and working together to make sure all of the information is available for everyone.” - Ray Soltis More About Ray Soltis: Graduated from Furman University in Greenville SC with a BA in Computer Science. Married to Suzanne Soltis who was also a Furman graduate with a BS in Computer Science. We have 2 adult children pursing a Dr. in OT and as a data analytics consultant. After Furman, I worked for GE Aerospace on a DOE contract in Florida until the desire to be an Entrepreneur took us to High Point NC in 1990 where we still reside. We bought out a local software company and started creating custom software applications, one of which was for a local window covering fabricator. We attended the D&WC show one year in Atlanta and met David Walker with LTL International who supported the industry. Long story short, we were convinced to rewrite our software system at that time to support Fabricators within the window fashion industry. We did and over the next 7-8 years we learned a lot and especially learned much of what we didn't know about this complex, ever changing, crazy window fashion industry. So in 1999 we basically started over and created Solatech based upon the concept of a product configuration being independent of the solution it supports. This is what has allowed Solatech to evolve with the industry and the products and beyond. We can and have supported POS or Fabrication for a wide range of products and have demonstrated the support for every conceivable interior or exterior window fashion product, flooring (for Mohawk), furniture, windows, doors, wall paper, gutter systems and even custom pool covers. Solatech is truly a CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) system specializing on the window fashion industry. We've never found a product more complex than those we work with every day within this industry. Solatech's longevity and position within the industry has allowed us to partner with and work directly with the biggest names in the industry, both nationally and internationally. We've had clients in half a dozen or more countries and as far away as Australia. We have partnered with the industry fabrication leaders like Springs Window Fashion, Horizons Window Fashion, Comfortex, Hunter Douglas, Norman Window Fashions and many more. Of the 4 largest Franchise groups in the industry, Solatech either currently works with or has worked with all of them. We provide a number of solutions to the industry for Retail Dealers, Workrooms, Fabricators, Franchise & Buying Groups, Hospitality Manufactures as well as E-Commerce dealers. Founded in 1999 by Ray Soltis, Solatech provides powerful, practical software solutions for Window Treatment Retail Dealers and Fabricators and specializes in bringing them together. Our mission is to streamline the sales, ordering and fabrication process, making your business more efficient and profitable. With well over 100 years of combined window fashion industry as well as technology experience, we are uniquely positioned to help you with cloud-based or stand-alone software solutions. In the run-up to the November election, we're taking on and revisiting some of our favorite mid-term related topics. Today, we revisit an episode from 2020. On this day in 1994, Republicans in the House of Representatives gathered on the steps of the Capitol to announce the “Contract with America,” a plank of ten policy points that they pledged to uphold if they seized back power in the upcoming midterm elections. Jody and Niki are joined by pollster Kristen Soltis Anderson of Echelon Insights to discuss how the contract helped propel New Gingrich to stardom and brand the new Republican party. Kristen's book is “The Selfie Vote.” Find a transcript of this episode at: https://tinyurl.com/esoterichistory This Day In Esoteric Political History is a proud member of Radiotopia from PRX. Juliana is in Boise for a cello recital and masterclass, both open to the public, at Boise State University this weekend.
Juliana Soltis is somewhat of a rebel – in her music, she improvises around classics written for the cello by composers like Johann Bach. She believes the notes Bach wrote are not static instructions, but rather living works of art.
Episode description: Nichole Soltis recently earned her master's degree from The University of Akron and is now a licensed therapist in the state of Ohio. A long-time figure skater, she will be competing at her second Adult National Championships this month. She has a passion for eating disorders and their impact on athletes, and she hopes to use her platform to spread awareness, support others, and start the conversation about eating disorders and sports. In this episode of Peace Meal, Nichole discusses how her passion for figure skating played a role in the development and maintenance of her eating disorder, as well as how she was able to get back on the ice after treatment. Delving first into the complicated relationship between aesthetic sports and eating disorders, she shares how restricting her food did not improve her skating performance in the way her eating disorder promised it would. Instead, it negatively affected not just her sport, but also her physical and mental health. Through recovery, Nichole learned that nourishing her body and working on her technique was the best thing for her skating performance. Now as a therapist passionate about supporting athletes, she encourages all coaches to get their athletes professional help if they notice the warning signs of an eating disorder. Nicole ends the conversation by assuring any athletes struggling with an eating disorder that getting help can mean enjoying life, food, and their sport once again. We cover: The impact aesthetic sports can have on body image How the stigma surrounding eating disorders can make it more difficult to seek help How nourishing your body is the best thing you can do to be successful in your sport The unique role of coaches in the lives of athletes The importance of taking care of your mind and body In Nichole's words: On the stigma surrounding eating disorders: “Everybody's okay with any body part breaking down except our brains… The stigma is still around and it impacts us definitely.” On improving athletic performance in a healthy way: “I focus more on technique now as opposed to my body composition… I really think it's important to focus on… changing that technique and adjusting it, as opposed to changing and adjusting your body.” On life in recovery: “You can still enjoy your life and enjoy food and enjoy your sport as well… You really do need to make sure that you're taking care of your whole self… your mind, body, your soul.” Learn more about The Emily Program online or by calling 1-888-364-5977. - About the podcast: Peace Meal is a podcast hosted by The Emily Program and Veritas Collaborative that covers topics related to eating disorders, body image, and how society may influence our thinking. My mission is to help others. After the loss of a child late into pregnancy, I founded ChoiceLocal with the sole purpose: Help Others. After working at a top digital marketing agency, serving fortune 500 brands, I founded ChoiceLocal to give amazing customer service, strategy, and results to franchise systems and independent businesses within specific verticals. Today, we are one of the fastest-growing companies in America, an award winner of numerous top workplace awards, a faith-based company, our average customer receives a 260+% increase in leads and an ROI of $15.54 in new revenue for every $1 they invest in marketing. We help our teammates have success and fun at work and life, we help our client partners find success. I am motivated by my faith in God and all people. We donate approximately 10% of our profits every year to help kids in need. This is my mission as a person as well as ChoiceLocal's: Help Others.
Today we're going to talk about the connection between employee experience and CX results, and how The Great Resignation is affecting the customer experience.
Dr. Laura Emiko Soltis of Freedom University joins Enrico E. Manalo on this episode of Intentionally Act Now in which they speak about the importance of relationships in creating lineages of learning that inform the currents of our present-day understanding and approach to racial and social justice, including labor. They also discussed human rights, the importance of psychological safety in learning, and how understanding our common history through a lens of racial equity helps us to understand why American notions of illegality in regard to immigration have emerged. Dr. Soltis also shines light on why Freedom University exists, its role as an expression of civil disobedience, and how that existence can help us to rethink our country's relationship with migration and work. Dr. Soltis invites us to think about what it will take for us to be “good future-ancestors” and to sit with the idea that “resistance in its most beautiful form is laughter.”

If you may not know, when finally deciding to work in the healthcare field, there are many different avenues in which to embark upon your journey. Whether it's social work, speech pathology, nursing, or even a neurologist, all can be very rewarding but involve various levels of skill and perseverance in order to achieve your desired outcome of being a provider in the healthcare space. When considering each career path, our ultimate decision can be summed but not limited to a few factors for our chosen profession. First and foremost, when choosing which field to go into, our first consideration is how hard the classes are for the desired profession. For some, the idea of overcoming organic chemistry and calculus 2 to become a physician is just a small notch in the belt of a long career in learning. However, to some, the simple thought of those same classes is enough for some to choose other options in the healthcare field. Second, our next consideration is often compensation in terms of how much I will make and how much am I going to need in order to pay off my loans if I get this job. Of course, this varies greatly depending on your position in healthcare and responsibilities you take on. And lastly, ironically enough, the third factor we consider is will this job be fulfilling in the sense of, do I feel like I am doing the greatest amount of good or am I helping the greatest amount of people with the career I am going to partake in. None of these factors are in any particular order but for our next guest, it was ultimately the third factor mentioned was the deciding factor that lead him into the field of becoming a doctor of physical therapyOur next guest is a close friend of mine who I had the pleasure of meeting in PT school. Originally from Upstate NY, our next guest shares his unique story into the healthcare space and how he has advanced not only as a clinician, but as an adult trying to navigate the perils of determining your profession in healthcare. As we hear more about his story, we will also get to hear how he has successfully started to run his own clinic in Nashville Tennessee as part of a larger organization just a short 2 years after graduating PT school. We will get to hear some of the struggles and benefits of running a clinic, how to be more active and noticed in your community, and much more. If that wasn't enough, our next guest has a long history of exercise, setting goals, and achieving anything he sets his mind to. I think from the perspective of another physical therapist, I think there are several amazing points clinicians can take from this podcast. But for those not in the space, I think this interview will provide some insight into the behind the scenes actions of how healthcare works and the various roles clinicians have to take on in order to keep things running. Our next guest on the podcast is Doctor of Physical Therapy, Tyler Soltis
