Paul Krauss MA LPC presents: Family engagement for sustainable recovery when dealing with trauma, and the after effects of trauma Description: This presentation covers how to engage with a family system that has lived through traumatic events or is dealing with current traumatic circumstances. To do this, first, trauma is defined through a scientific and sociological lens; a discussion of how trauma effects may affect a person takes place, and the differences between PTSD, trauma and stress are discussed. The Adverse Child Experiences (ACE) study is explored in how it links traumatic events to long-term negative health events in most people and in most family systems—and how these findings can help clinicians understand clients better. The presentation then focuses on the environment of the family home, the particular family's behaviors, and the neighborhood in which they reside as important aspects in both understanding trauma, mental health, and working on preventing long-term trauma. The presentation concludes with methods to help families that have endured environmental trauma, how to work with individuals who have experienced trauma that impacts their mental health, and concludes with tips on how clinicians can help families on the road to a sustainable recovery from the after-effects of trauma.   Read along w/ the slides and the entire presentation on this blog w/ video below: https://healthforlifegr.com/family-engagement-when-dealing-with-trauma-events/   Are you a parent of an adult that is having major difficulties? Aviation is one of the fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Direct emissions from aviation account for about 3% of the EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions and more than 2% of global emissions. The EU is taking action to reduce aviation emissions. These have been included in the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS) since 2012. On 3 July 2020, the European Commission published the Roadmap for the legislative initiative aimed at amending the EU ETS regarding aviation. This initiative, planned for the second quarter of 2021, will serve to implement the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by the EU in a way that is consistent with the EU’s 2030 climate objectives. This proposal will be part of the broader European Green Deal. And the proposed ReFuelEU Aviation regulation aims to boost the supply and demand for sustainable aviation fuels in the EU.Improving sustainability is a priority for most aviation companies who want good sustainable practices and greening of their industry to become the norm. As industry looks forward to Europe’s most ambitious climate action plan yet, the European business aviation sector has stated its determination to support the European Green Deal, its goals and underlying values. Business aviation has the ability to connect remote regions and communities, bringing economic development to places otherwise inaccessible. In 2009, the sector detailed three aspirational goals and the associated mechanisms it would use to achieve these goals: carbon-neutral growth by 2020; an improvement in fuel efficiency of an average of 2% per year from today until 2020; a reduction in total CO2 emissions of 50% by 2050 relative to 2005. It is on track with these goals.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about a “green recovery” and “building back better.” But what do these concepts really mean? What are the most compelling ideas being put forward by economists, policymakers, grassroots leaders and other experts? What kinds of actions will produce the best results in terms of economic growth, improved health, lower emissions and greater resilience? These are questions Political Climate will explore in the coming months in the new podcast series “Relief, Rescue, Rebuild,” sponsored by Third Way. Earlier this year, we launched a series called “Path to Zero,” which explored the technologies and policies needed to rapidly drive down carbon emissions. Now, we’re shifting our focus to the path to economic recovery and what that would look like if equitable, low-carbon solutions were baked in.In this first episode, we speak to Leah Stokes, assistant professor of political science at the University of California, Santa Barbara and author of the new book Short Circuiting Policy. Leah makes the case for a green economic recovery, barriers to implementation, and what she would put in her ideal green stimulus bill. In the second half of the show, we turn to a joint interview with Oni Blair, executive director at LinkHouston, and Alex Laska, transportation policy advisor at Third Way. In this discussion, we focus on clean transportation policy and the need to “fix it first” — both with respect to infrastructure and equity issues — before tackling entirely new projects.“Relief, Rescue, Rebuild” episodes will air monthly on the Political Climate podcast feed. Re-starting the EU economy - How can industry contribute to a resilient and sustainable recovery?

The outbreak of the corona pandemic has posed a serious threat to European industry in both the short and long term, from disruption of supply chains due to transport and travel restrictions, to the loss of suppliers. Most industrial companies report substantial falls in numbers of orders placed or order cancellations. Due to a mix of a weak global economy and uncertainty in business, society and politics, many companies are lacking not only liquidity but also the necessary planning security for future innovations and investments. Businesses are now facing three transition processes: the digital transformation, the move to a sustainable economic system, and surviving the corona crisis. For a successful recovery, a stable and predictable environment for long-term sustainable growth must be re-established as quickly as possible. Individual nations going it alone, border closures and protectionist measures undertaken by EU Member States at the beginning of the pandemic questioned Europe's ability to find a common response to the crisis. But the Commission's EUR 750 billion Recovery Fund announced in May was a strong statement which now must be converted into sustainable success.

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered an unprecedented global health crisis. The response measures are resulting in a severe shock to the economy, with many businesses currently unsure of their ability to survive. The IMF predicts (WEO, 6th April) a global economic contradiction equal to -3% of global GDP in 2020, with alternative scenarios forecasting a -5% to -7% depending on a longer COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 and/or a new outbreak in 2021. While we are still adapting to the effect of the crisis, some lessons can already be drawn. On the positive side, many companies and people have displayed a high-level of creativity in seeking solutions to the crisis. On the negative side, the pandemic has laid bare vulnerabilities due to a clear lack of digital infrastructure and data pooling necessary to identify the threat and enact appropriate containment measures. More than ever, policymakers need to focus on long-term policies to make society more resilient to future shocks. This includes a strong focus on the transition to a low-carbon economy, more robust cybersecurity policies, and enhanced digital infrastructure. There is an opportunity to accelerate public policies supporting the transition to a Net-Zero economy by 2050 in line with the Paris Agreement. One idea is that companies receiving state aid could be incentivised, through discounted financing schemes, to use the funds for investments and R&D activities that align with the 2050 objectives. A successful transition out of the crisis will depend on policymakers working together with industry - manufacturers, digital providers, the service sector, the financial sector - and civil society.

Timothy Harrington talks to Dr. Justin Trosclair DC on A Doctor's Perspective Podcast. Drug use can lead to addiction or dependence: why is the difference so key? Trust vs Fear when disciplining teenagers. How to remove the stigma so you don't suffer in silence and get the mental health they need. Wide Wonder founder Timothy Harrington. Learning to not just get off drugs and alcohol but to stay stopped. How does childhood trauma or abuse set one up to have unhealthy relationship or addiction to drugs and alcohol? Strong relation with self and other people and I can be the best to my clients. ADDICTION and DEPENDENT There is a Huge distinction between ADDICTION and DEPENDENT: what is it and why should it matter so much?   A key to remember is the media narrative vs evidence based science narrative are not the same. Can you use drugs recreationally without it having negative consequences on your friends, family and job? Is the moral decay of society label they put on illicit drugs helping or hurting the way teenagers and adults approach drug use? Why/ how are there so many people (70%) functioning normally with a job yet still take drugs? We only have programs that address the rock bottom person and not the one who is still coasting on 2 wheels. Why is early age use of drugs so detrimental and increases the likelihood of addiction and all the negative consequences that come with it? Teenagers Teenagers rebel. They experiment with drugs and other addictive behaviors (even gaming). Parents have several options to deal with this scenario. Tim discusses the labeling them as a junkie or addict route, the you are grounded and punishment route, the Trust and relate to the kid about your past experiences route and ties in peer pressure along with it. What are the negative and positive consequences for each route previously mentioned? Ultimately we can have an addiction to just about anything when it becomes an unhealthy balance and negative consequences or neglecting other areas of life and yet we keep doing that destructive habit. What is the relationship to that behavior and the rest of your responsibilities in life? Why not make hard lines of right and wrong and stigmatize some things and not others? Many decisions we make come from a place of Fear, how can we keep that in check and make better choices… especially when you see a loved one going down a path that can lead to self destruction. Peer pressure Peer pressure is real. Picking the “wrong friends” can expose you to things that you may never have experienced before and in a negative way. When it comes to teenagers, what are they getting from those relationships that they weren't getting from their other peer group or more importantly not getting from their parents? How do you as a parent develop the same characteristic of their peer group (basic value: non-judgmental, non-shaming, non-blaming)? Trust. It's more important that your kids trust you and that they can come back to you even if or even though they are doing things you disapprove of. You may even find that when you build that trust bridge of “I've been in situation like you before” the kid will look to you for the guidance when faced with a bad choice or situation. How do we discover the pain we are masking or the emotions we are running from? Purpose Anxiety and Values What is Purpose Anxiety and how do your values differ from your kid's values and the conflict that can arise?  (Values and actions: What I love to do, choose to do and desire to do) How to Live your High Values and not just talk about them? Mr. Harrington gives a great example about a man who works 90 hours a week but says family is high value. Intergenerational trauma, it can last for 3 generations if not more but how do we stop it, change it and turn it to a positive situation. Instead of Why the Addiction, we can ask Why the Pain (the protagonist)?

Sustainable Recovery™, Inc., believes in supporting the whole family: mind, body, spirit. We realize emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual well being are intertwined. We believe, while it’s important for a loved one to realize that they have an illness, they are more than that illness. We can help someone figure out on their own who they really are. Instead of saying 'You're an addict', ‘You’re bipolar’ or ‘You’re schizophrenic,’ we can help someone feel comfortable and say, ‘I’m a person, not my diagnosis.’” The point is to move forward in life.Adopting an addict identity can be especially problematic for young people whose identities are not yet fully formed. Doing so may make what may well be a transient problem into a long-term one, by teaching them that addiction is inevitably chronic and relapsing. Since no one can predict which youth will “mature out” of addiction and which will not, teens should never be forced to attend 12-step groups—nor should they be made to label themselves as addicts. We also believe that working in tandem with compassionate, clinical, professionals is crucial. Each family is unique and is treated that way. We don’t see our clients as a diagnosis or a billing number. "The words most frequently used to describe what we do includes the following: identify, engage, encourage, motivate, share, express, enhance, orient, help, link, consult, monitor, transport, praise, enlist, support, organize, and advocate" - Timothy Harrington, Chief Empowerment Officer, Sustainable Recovery™, Inc.www.sustainablerecovery.net

Sustainable Recovery by Keith Kay Sustainable Recovery is both a book and concept. You can change from the old addicted way of being. You can literally become a new person who stays sober under all conditions. It is possible to transform how you think, feel and act, as well as your physical body. You can become an upgraded version of yourself. Sustainable Recovery is a non-fiction book in the self-help genre, and is dedicated to enlightening anyone seeking recovery from alcoholism, or seeking a greater knowledge of addiction rehabilitation. The book focuses on the author's personal battle with alcoholism. His recovery, first in the conventional Twelve Step model, then later utilizing cutting edge neuroscience and ‘the quantum model' is a compelling journey of personal transformation. Drawing on his diverse career in mainstream nursing, as well as extensive knowledge of alternative/complementary healing, the author lays out the formula for his own high-end recovery. Utilizing “what has worked the best for the most for the longest” from a very contemporary perspective, he further endorses an additional layer atop the 80 year old AA program. Taking the latest up-to-the moment ideas on epigenetics, neuroplasticity and spiritual mindfulness, he offers insight and a practical guide for “the recovery and life of your dreams.” For more information visit: http://sustainablerecovery.org/
