This episode examines the declining male labor force participation rate in America, which has fallen to its lowest level since 1948, with roughly one in three men no longer working or seeking work. While mainstream explanations point to manufacturing decline, an aging population, and the opioid crisis, host John Odermatt argues that a decade of DEI policies has systematically pushed men—especially white men—out of industries across corporate America, academia, media, and tech. Drawing on Jacob Savage's viral Compact Magazine article "The Lost Generation" and survey data from hiring managers themselves, the episode presents sector-by-sector evidence of documented hiring discrimination. Odermatt shares his own experience of being pushed out of corporate America and reframes the crisis not as a story of victimhood, but as a call for men to build income streams they control—through entrepreneurship, skilled trades, and commission-based work. The episode closes with a challenge to listeners: stop building your life on a foundation someone else can pull out from under you. Game server hosting is the layer nobody thinks about until it breaks. In this episode, Kalie Moore sits down with Max Podkidkin, Co-Founder and CEO of BisectHosting, to unpack how a Minecraft server that went dark for three days turned into a 15-year infrastructure business serving hundreds of thousands of customers across more than 140 countries. Max put the first hardware on a credit card, recruited a co-founder he met in his own Minecraft community, and built the company to nearly 100 employees without ever raising outside capital. They get into what those early years actually looked like, including hiding a laptop on a cart at a factory job to answer support tickets, the two years he and Andrew worked together over text before meeting face to face, and how a US and UK split gave them 24/7 coverage with a team of two.The conversation also covers how the hosting business really works, from the economics of renting out resources to why running a server at home costs more than most people think. Max explains why BisectHosting has turned down repeated acquisition offers while private equity consolidates the market around them, how the team gets into a studio's Discord and pre-tests server files before working with a game studio, and what 15 years of hosting communities has taught him about why modding and UGC keep games alive long after launch. He also shares the studio's approach to AI, including Biko, the assistant built into their server panel that has cut support tickets by double digits without a single person losing their job.Big thanks to Heroic Labs for making this episode possible. CannCon kicks things off with a genuinely sweet detour, sharing his 17th anniversary and the tribute video his wife made, before the guys steer hard back into manly territory with talk of keeping your nuts warm in a fifty dollar coffee mug. Football is nearly here, so the crew serves up a tightly curated highlight reel: Harrison Butker launching a 69-yard field goal with room to spare, a debate over where field goals are actually measured from, and a jaw-dropping one-handed high school grab that draws a celebration flag but no pass interference. There is also fatherly wisdom about sons leaving the nest and Alpha's contingency plan for his kid crossing the southern border. The centerpiece is a Marine Corps slang quiz with Cam playing the clueless civilian, decoding scuttlebutt, pogue, Smokey Bear, and Semper Gumby. It wraps with a "video games are getting too realistic" segment and a wildly un-PC vintage commercial someone wants clipped for Badlands Daily.

Originally aired: March, 2022Melanie welcomes back Dr. Richard Freed, author of Wired Child and a practicing Clinical Psychologist and supervisor studying the effects of technology on children. He is on the advisory board of ScreenStrong and is a contributor to many well-respected publications. A link to Dr. Freed's article, The Tech Industry's War on Kids, is included in the show notes. Melanie asks Richard to provide our listeners his perspective on frequently asked questions from parents related to screens in the classroom, how to modify and/or request help with reducing screen use for homework, how to request a support letter for an in-school accommodation for your child, and one of the most difficult questions to answer, what to say to your child that is struggling with addictive behaviors. Their discussion addresses how technology has changed the school experience and learning opportunities for our children, which have significantly impacted children's development of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), which encompasses the growth of personal identity, communication, empathy, and healthy connections with parents, teachers, and coaches within the overall community setting. Lastly, Melanie and Richard provide an overview of tips pulled from their conversation today with an emphasis on strong parenting, reducing screens in schools, and re-establishing the strong guidance and love our kids need from us from elementary through high school and beyond. REFERENCES: The Tech Industry's War on Kids by Dr. Richard FreedSupport the showDon't forget to subscribe, rate, and leave a review if you enjoy the episode. In the wake of Sony's announcement that they are ending production on physical discs for the PlayStation, coupled with the culling of hundreds of movies, TV shows and documentaries that customers purchased legally and now no longer have access to, a huge amount of people are waking up to the alarming, impermanent realities of the streaming-only future we have all been pushed into. In the immortal words of The Doors, 'The time to hesitate is through.' Jeremy Martin is a complicated man. Although raised in a Christian home, he chose a different path. At eighteen years old, he embraced the party lifestyle of drinking alcohol and using drugs of various kinds. Before long, he found himself sucked into a criminal lifestyle, including an eight-year stretch where he earned his living from crime. At 25 he had to flee Arizona in order to escape murder. At this point in the story, I bet you’re expecting me to say something like, “Then Jeremy met God and changed his life and has been faithfully serving him ever since.” Nope. That’s not how the story goes. It’s way more complicated than that. I’ll have to let him explain it. Rest assured though, you’re in for a treat. Jeremy shows us that God doesn’t quit on people, even if people quit on him. He shows us that it’s never too late to start serving God. And he shows us that true satisfaction isn’t found in distractions like marijuana and video games, but in doing good for others.   Listen on Spotify   Listen on Apple Podcasts —— Links —— Read Jeremy Martin’s blog posts as SeekGroveLove Get the transcript of this episode Support Restitutio by donating here Join our Facebook group, follow on X @RestitutioSF or Instagram @Sean.P.Finnegan or Threads @sean.p.finnegan Leave a 90 second voice message via SpeakPipe with questions or comments and we may play it out on the air Who is Sean Finnegan?  Read his bio here Check out Finnegan’s books on Amazon. UNDRESSED WITH POL' AND PATRIK

In this deeply personal installment of our Anna Nicole Smith: Portrait of an Icon series, we open Chapter Two of our book and remember the person who was truly at the center of Anna Nicole Smith's world: her son, Daniel Wayne Smith. We knew Daniel away from the headlines and cameras—as the quiet, brilliant, soft-spoken young man who loved books, video games, trivia and simply being close to his mom. While Anna became one of the most photographed women in the world, Daniel wanted almost nothing to do with fame, and we share what it was really like watching him navigate life as Anna Nicole Smith's son. We take you inside the mother-son relationship the public rarely got to see. Anna was fiercely protective, surprisingly strict and completely hands-on with Daniel. We remember the everyday moments that showed who she was when the cameras were gone: cooking for him, teaching him how to brush his teeth with braces, fighting over a messy bedroom, worrying about college and doing everything she could to give him the childhood and future she never had. Daniel wasn't just her son—he was her rock, her grounding force and, for so many years, the one constant in her life. We also revisit some of our funniest and most unforgettable memories with him: Daniel hiding from cameras, Pol' trying to understand what Daniel was doing on the computer, Patrik playing a celebrity boxing video game with him while Anna's digital character battled in the ring, and the wild TrimSpa bus trip to Nebraska where Anna essentially told us to get on the bus and figure out the clothes later. There was Scrabble, road-trip chaos, laughter and the kind of private family moments no tabloid could ever capture. Then the conversation turns emotional as we remember Daniel meeting his newborn sister in the Bahamas and the devastating loss that followed. We reflect on how losing him changed Anna forever and read from our book the heartbreaking remembrance she wrote for Daniel to be placed with him—a private expression of a mother trying to understand how to live without the child she called her rock. We also share how Dannielynn's name became connected to Daniel and to hope for the future. This episode is not about the Anna Nicole persona. It is about the mother we knew, the son we loved, and the bond we witnessed firsthand. Daniel was intelligent, gentle, funny, private and full of promise—and his loss became one none of us ever truly got over. There is much more to this story, and much more from Portrait of an Icon still to come.
