CAFE stands for “Corporate Average Fuel Economy.” An easy definition, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is a regulation: …[on] how far our vehicles must travel on a gallon of fuel. NHTSA sets CAFE standards for passenger cars and for light trucks (collectively, light-duty vehicles), and separately sets fuel consumption standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and engines. NHTSA also regulates the fuel-economy window stickers on new vehicles. Ending these regulations is part of complying with Trump’s “Unleashing American Energy” Executive Order and the [Transportation] Secretary's “Fixing the CAFE Program” Memorandum, according to the department’s homepage. Assistant U.S. Attorney Blasts Los Angeles County After It Votes to Ban ICE Agents from Wearing Masks Los Angeles County's far-left Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to advance an unprecedented ordinance that would ban law enforcement officers, including federal immigration agents, from wearing masks while working in unincorporated areas of the county. The proposal passed 4-0, with only Supervisor Kathryn Barger abstaining. A final vote is scheduled for next week, and the ordinance would take effect in January 2026, according to the LA Times. Legal experts say federal immigration agents would not be required to follow a county mask ban. The county's top lawyer, Dawyn Harrison, has said she suspects the federal government will likely argue that the county law violates the Constitution, which states that federal law takes precedence over conflicting local statutes. https://twitter.com/USAttyEssayli/status/1996040656733814854?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1996040656733814854%7Ctwgr%5E71ecedc2cdf5f5bfec40c6e10a4a461e8ffa25fd%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thegatewaypundit.com%2F2025%2F12%2Fassistant-u-s-attorney-blasts-los-angeles-county%2F by the media and local politicians. The “war on narco-terrorists” that Secretary Hegseth is bragging about is being run on a legal foundation poured years before Trump ever touched the Oval Office desk. Obama normalized the presidential kill list. He campaigned in 2008 promising rule of law, transparency, and restraint. He delivered a tenfold increase in drone strikes; a White House “Terror Tuesday” meeting where officials literally flipped through PowerPoint slides picking who lived or died; and a legal doctrine allowing the president to kill U.S. citizens without trial, notice, or judicial review. That doctrine – once unthinkable – is now standard operating procedure. Obama's Director of National Intelligence openly admitted in 2010 that the administration was targeting Americans based on vague criteria like whether a citizen was “involved” in a group “trying to attack us.” That’s not evidence… that’s vibes. When civil-liberties groups sued to force the government to explain the legal basis, Obama declared the entire matter a state secret. Meaning: the president could now kill you, and no court was allowed to ask why. The judiciary rubber-stamped it. Both parties embraced it. And the public largely applauded it. Then came the Awlaki killings. Obama ordered the drone assassination of: • Anwar al-Awlaki, an American cleric • Samir Khan, an American citizen standing next to him • Awlaki's 16-year-old son, killed two weeks later at a café The White House smeared the kid as a “21-year-old terrorist.” The next week a birth certificate proved he was a Colorado teenager with zero ties to extremism. The administration shrugged. Obama famously told aides: “Turns out I'm really good at killing people.” And Washington – media, political class, and voters – rewarded him. Fast-forward to 2025. Trump isn't inventing anything new in Venezuela. He's using the exact precedents Obama left behind: Unreviewable executive kill authority, expanded definitions of “enemy combatant,” secret memos. No congressional oversight, no geographic limits, zero court supervision. Obama created the kill switch. Trump just slammed it. If you cheered the drone program when your guy was doing it, you already endorsed what’s happening now. If you let the government redefine due process as “whatever we decide in secret,” you already consented to the next president weaponizing that power. And if you normalize extrajudicial force abroad, eventually it comes home. Obama built the architecture. Trump moved in. And Venezuela is learning what happens when a precedent meets a president with fewer brakes EU corruption scandal could take down von der Leyen – Politico A corruption probe into former EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has thrown European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's position into jeopardy, with opponents preparing to turn the affair into a fresh push to remove her, Politico reported on Wednesday, citing officials in the bloc. Mogherini, who served as the EU's top diplomat from 2014 to 2019 and is now rector of the College of Europe, was detained on Tuesday. She was formally accused by the European Public Prosecutor's Office of procurement fraud, corruption, conflict of interest, and breaches of professional secrecy over an EU-funded diplomatic academy program. In the wake of the scandal, von der Leyen “is facing the starkest challenge to the EU's accountability in a generation,” with her rivals renewing calls for a new no-confidence vote, Politico reported. source:rt.com NATO Members Commit More Than $1 Billion to Purchase U.S. Weapons for Ukraine NATO officials from Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland pledged hundreds of millions more in U.S.-made weapons under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) scheme, Ukrainian media reported. Amid Russian gains on the battlefield, they insist Ukraine must be armed “to keep the fight going.” The alliance offered these commitments while being accused of attempting to sabotage peace talks. Canada, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, and the U.K. all announced new contributions, pushing the total put toward U.S.-made weapons bound for Ukraine toward $5 billion this year alone. These newly allocated funds come at a time when many European governments, increasingly unpopular at home, are cutting domestic programs and warning of budget shortfalls. Source: thegatewaypundit.com Leaked Transcript of EU Conference Call with Zelenskyy Highlights Fear of Trump Securing Peace for Ukraine Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in Paris talking to Emmanuel Macron last weekend while Rubio, Witkoff and Kushner were meeting with Ukraine officials in Florida. This telephone call is reported to have taken place the following day, on Monday. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and European Council President António Costa held a conference call. A transcript of the call was leaked to Spiegel, a German news outlet. According to the narrative the assembled group of EU leaders were discussing how the Trump administration was going to betray Ukraine in order to get a peace deal with Russia. The gist of the narrative sounds accurate, though some of the EU leaders are denying the specifics of the wording used. The EU is very worried President Trump may formulate a peace agreement then present the final terms to Ukraine without the EU being involved in the construct of the details. The EU is opposed to any peaceful end to the conflict, because the EU and NATO have positioned their collective economies to only benefit if the military spending continues; they are backstopping their spending with the confiscated Russian assets. Ilhan Omar and individuals later charged or convicted in Minnesota's billion-dollar pandemic-meal fraud. Omar's 2018 victory party was held at Safari Restaurant, co-owned by Salim Ahmed Said, now found guilty of pocketing more than $12 million in fraudulent reimbursements after reportedly serving “phantom” meals. A member of Omar's campaign staff has also been convicted in the same broader scheme. Critics note Omar publicly praised the program that later enabled the fraud, and that she maintained ties with several of the participants. Prosecutors say Minnesota's COVID-era meal programs operated with almost no verification, allowing widespread abuse through Feeding Our Future and affiliated entities. It is on purpose. It is a feature, not a bug,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet J. Dhillon told the Just the News, No Noise television show on Wednesday night. “And the goal is to cram as many people on there and make voters who are not particularly engaged, make it easy for someone else to help them fill out their ballot and return it for them when they didn’t care enough to do it themselves,” she added. “What we can do at the federal government level is ensure that our federal election laws are observed, and that includes each state’s requirement to keep clean voter rolls,” she added. “That is a fundamental basic.” Dhillon spoke one day after her division filed lawsuits against six Democrat-run states — Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Washington state and Vermont — seeking to compel them to turn over to the DOJ their voter rolls to be inspected for abnormalities, outdated names or noncompliant names. She also struck a deal last week with North Carolina to force it to review and fix over 100,000 voters’ names on rolls in that battleground state that were added without complying with state law. Dhillon said her office is now on track to force through litigation, settlement or voluntary efforts at least 26 states to clean up voter rolls. “We’re now in litigation with 14 states. So the six yesterday included Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, New Mexico, Washington State and Vermont. That adds to eight we already had going,” she said. When a pair of high-profile internet outages took down large chunks of the internet last month, the events briefly brought hundreds of organizations to a near-halt and prevented millions of users from accessing core services for everyday business needs. From Starbucks to crypto exchanges to the messaging app Signal, the outages rippled across nearly every sector, shining a spotlight onto the country's — and even the government's — reliance on a mere handful of cloud service providers. In the wake of those incidents, watchdog groups are calling on federal regulators to scrutinize the role that massive cloud companies like Amazon and Microsoft play in owning and maintaining much of our collective backend IT infrastructure. Meanwhile, technology and cybersecurity experts point out that, because of financial and business realities, there are very few alternatives to the large companies that now dominate the market. The Amazon Web Services outage began Oct. 19 and lasted into Oct. 20. According to Amazon's post-mortem, a single software bug in DynamoDB — the system that manages website addresses, along with efforts to repair it — caused all services in the Northern Virginia region that relied on the tool to go down for 15 hours. Just over a week later, Microsoft's Azure cloud platform experienced an outage impacting several of its services. According to Microsoft, an “inadvertent tenant configuration change” occurred in Azure Front Door, the company's content delivery network. The outages exposed just how fragile the country's digital infrastructure is and showed the risks of letting a few companies hold so much power. As a result, some groups are urging federal regulators to address the issue. Federal agencies would be required to report artificial intelligence-related layoffs to the Department of Labor under a new bill from a bipartisan pair of senators. The AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act from Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., calls on agencies and major companies to deliver quarterly reports to DOL on the impact AI has on their workforces, detailing job cuts and displacements. Hawley said in a press release“Artificial intelligence is already replacing American workers, and experts project AI could drive unemployment up to 10-20% in the next five years. The American people need to have an accurate understanding of how AI is affecting our workforce, so we can ensure that AI works for the people, not the other way around.” The bill would also require agencies and companies to report hirings that can be “substantially” credited to AI, as well as the number of individuals they are retraining because of AI. There's also a callout to keep track of open positions an agency or company decided not to fill because of automation. The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. What's next for market structure and crypto regulation with Senator Mark Warner, D-VA. In a conversation with CoinDesk's Jennifer Sanasie and Paul Hastings Partner Renato Mariotti, Senator Mark Warner, D-VA, discusses the urgent need for market structure legislation following yesterday's separate crypto meetings with Republican and Democratic senators. Plus, he responds to the industry backlash to the Democrats' leaked DeFi proposal and explains why getting regulation right—not fast—is the priority for bipartisan progress. - This episode was hosted by Jennifer Sanasie.
On Friday's Mark Levin Show, Qatar is the world's largest funder of terrorism, Islamism in education, and anti-American front groups and they will have an Air Force facility in America. American Air Force pilots will train Qatari pilots on F-15 jets. This is shocking. How can you reward Qatar with an Air Force facility given their role on 9/11? Will Qatar apologize for 9/11 and October 7th? Will they agree to swear off terrorism? Afterward, Rush Limbaugh was a staunch defender of Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Limbaugh visited Israel multiple times, promoted it on his radio show, and would be appalled by Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, and others who associate with lowlifes that yearn for the Third Reich. Today Limbaugh would vocally oppose Qatar's U.S. base. Also, Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger is refusing to denounce her party's Attorney General nominee Jay Jones, who sent horrific texts about murdering a Republican and his family. Democrats, including Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, protect Jones, who is dangerous. Republican candidate Winsome Earle-Sears, a Marine veteran, businesswoman, is an excellent choice, despite the media bias against her. Later, Trump has imposed 100% tariffs on China in response to its export controls on rare earth minerals, which is blackmail on China's part. China is the enemy, and their weakness is the financial sector. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The looming government shutdown — now just days away — has escalated dramatically. Russ Vought, Trump's former OMB director and the key architect behind the original administration firings, circulated a memo this week warning agencies to prepare for a “reduction in force” if funding lapses. The message was clear: if there's a shutdown, he plans to fire as many people as possible and make those firings stick. In his words, the Democrats would be handing him a gift. It's what he's always wanted to do, and he's daring them to let it happen.Democrats, for their part, view this as a scare tactic, a way to push them into passing a clean continuing resolution. They've been offered essentially the best deal possible under GOP control: Biden-era spending levels and no controversial riders. Still, they're rejecting it. Even lawmakers from districts and states with large numbers of federal employees — Chris Van Hollen, Glenn Ivey, Patty Murray, Mark Warner — are standing firm. For them, this is about resisting what they see as Trump-aligned plans to gut the federal workforce.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Some Republicans are framing the mass firing threat as leverage, not a goal. Bernie Moreno said he supports the memo as a negotiating tactic but wants to avoid a shutdown. Susan Collins and Mike Lawler both expressed discomfort with using federal workers as bargaining chips but pointed out that the solution is simple: just vote for the clean CR. Speaker Mike Johnson, meanwhile, is pressing hard, accusing Democrats of preferring illegal immigrants to federal employees by insisting on funding Obamacare and Medicare subsidies that Republicans argue benefit non-citizens.So where does that leave us? A shutdown happens when Congress fails to pass, and the President fails to sign, either the full appropriations bill or a continuing resolution before the start of the fiscal year. When that happens, agencies are prohibited from spending money, except on activities deemed essential to life, property, or national security. Non-essential employees are furloughed, contractors go unpaid, and essential workers like the military and TSA keep working without pay. We're set to enter this world on October 1st.Everything from passport processing to regulatory enforcement gets paused. Federal contractors, especially in areas around DC, take a huge financial hit. Social security checks, Medicare, and mail delivery continue. And while federal workers usually get back pay, contractors often don't. A shutdown only ends when Congress passes and the President signs a funding bill. That's why I say this isn't an “if,” but a “when.” The government will shut down; the only question is how long Democrats are willing to hold out before taking the same deal they're rejecting now. I don't think it'll be long. This isn't their kind of fight, and they're about to find out why.Chapters00:00 - Intro03:12 - 107 Days06:30 - Gov Shutdown15:30 - Update15:49 - Hegseth Meeting18:04 - Kimmel Ratings19:44 - TikTok20:43 - Interview with Tom Merritt55:49 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. In this episode of The Wright Report, we cover the return of the deadly screwworm parasite to U.S. soil, a sweeping Deep State update from the DIA to Epstein, and global headlines from Gaza, Ukraine, and Venezuela. From maggots threatening America's cattle herd to Marines steaming toward Caracas, today's brief connects domestic crises with international conflicts that could reshape U.S. policy. Screwworm Parasite Returns to America: Health officials confirm the first human case of screwworm infestation in decades, discovered in Maryland after a traveler returned from Latin America. Ranchers warn of catastrophic risks to U.S. beef herds, recalling outbreaks from the 1930s. Critics blame Biden's open border surge through Panama for allowing the parasite north. As Bryan puts it, “This screwworm crisis was preventable but Democrats and Joe Biden allowed it to happen.” Deep State Update — DIA, Bolton, and Epstein: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fires DIA chief Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Kruse after his team relied on Iranian disinformation to downplay Trump's strike on Tehran's nuclear program. Senator Mark Warner blasted the move, warning of “a dangerous habit of treating intelligence as a loyalty test.” The FBI raids John Bolton's home and office in a classified documents probe, raising questions about why Biden-era DOJ buried the case. And newly released Ghislaine Maxwell testimony insists, “The President was always a gentleman in all respects,” while controversially minimizing Bill Clinton's Epstein ties as “one journey.” Gaza Hospital Strike Kills Civilians and Journalists: Israeli missiles hit Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, killing at least 20 including reporters for Reuters and the AP. Prime Minister Netanyahu's office calls it a “tragic mistake” as an investigation begins. Israeli media demand answers, asking, “How did this happen?” Ukraine Unveils 1,800-Mile Missile: President Zelenskyy announces Ukraine has built a long-range missile dubbed “The Flamingo” capable of striking deep into Russia. “We can and will strike deeper into Russian territory without the permission of Washington,” he declared, though Trump's Pentagon has quietly ordered U.S. weapons held back from long-range use. U.S. Marines Deploy Toward Venezuela: The 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit sails south with destroyers, submarines, and aircraft in what may be preparation to topple Nicolás Maduro's regime. Trinidad and Tobago's prime minister backs Trump, declaring, “No amount of Trump Derangement Syndrome tantrums will prevent my government from welcoming assistance to combat the terrorist drug cartels of Venezuela.” Bryan suggests the timing may connect to Trump's deportation strategy under the Alien Enemies Act. To retaliate or not to retaliate? That's the question after President Donald Trump's trade deadline hit, and he once again slapped tariffs on Canada. Without an agreement between our countries, Trump followed through on his threat to increase his tariff on non-CUSMA goods from 25 to 35%. This is on top of tariffs on autos, steel, aluminum and copper.Host Cormac Mac Sweeney speaks with Maaw Law trade lawyer Mark Warner about how we ended up here, why Mexico got an extension and we didn't, and whether Canada should hit back or hold our punch in order to reach a deal in the weeks ahead. Your suspicions were correct: according to The Wall Street Journal, Trump's name is in the Epstein files—and the Attorney General told him so all the way back in May. Trump responds with more lies, obfuscations, and distractions, accusing Barack Obama of treason, and sending Tulsi Gabbard out to try to prove the case without the benefit of facts or specifics. Dan and Jon discuss all the latest, including DOJ's overtures to Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump's awkward stunt at the Fed building, and two federal judges ordering the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia as he awaits trial. Then, Tommy sits down with Senator Mark Warner to discuss Trump's treason accusations and what the intelligence community actually concluded about Russian election-meddling in 2016.For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here. Criminal Referral and Allegations Against Obama: Tulsi Gabbard claims that Obama has been referred to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation. She accuses the Obama administration of manufacturing intelligence to falsely suggest Russian interference in the 2016 election to benefit Trump. Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA): Gabbard criticizes the January 2017 ICA ordered by Obama, alleging it was politically motivated and based on unreliable sources, including the discredited Steele dossier. Claims are made that senior intelligence officials like John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey knowingly misled the public and Congress. Evidence and Documents: Gabbard references newly declassified documents and reports from the House Intelligence Committee and Senator Chuck Grassley. These documents allegedly show manipulation of intelligence and suppression of contradictory evidence. Accusations of Treason: Gabbard uses the term “treasonous” to describe the actions of Obama and his team. She asserts that the intelligence was fabricated to launch a coup against Trump. Hillary Clinton’s Involvement: The audio claims Clinton’s campaign was in direct contact with the Obama administration to dig up dirt on Trump. Allegations include psychological issues and tranquilizer use, based on supposed Russian intelligence. Media and Public Reaction: Mentions pushback from Obama’s spokesperson and criticism from figures like Senator Mark Warner. Emphasizes the importance of public awareness and sharing the information. It's been a banner stretch for President Trump: a major strike on Iran's nuclear sites, a sprawling tax-and-spending bill pushed through Congress, and a growing foreign policy resume. But beneath the surface of all the flag-waving and victory laps, Democrats like Senator Mark Warner are warning that the real story is unfolding in the shadows—inside an increasingly politicized US intelligence community. In this episode of the GZERO World podcast, Ian sits down with the senior Senator from Virginia at his Capitol Hill office for a wide-ranging conversation about what's breaking inside America's national security institutions—and what that means for foreign policy decisions from Tehran to Gaza. Warner doesn't hold back: “We're in uncharted, dangerous territory. The United States is going to war in the Middle East again… maybe. President Donald Trump announced Saturday the U.S. had bombed three of Iran's main nuclear facilities, adding, “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!” But while multiple members of the administration spent Sunday insisting the U.S. is not out for regime change, Trump later undermined them in another Truth Social post floating the idea. The extent of the damage inflicted on Iran's nuclear capabilities also remains unclear, after Israeli and U.S. officials walked back the president's claim Saturday that the U.S. had ‘totally obliterated' the country's enrichment facilities. Virginia Democratic Sen. Mark Warner, vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, talks about what's next for Congress and the U.S.And in headlines: Columbia University grad student Mahmoud Khalil was released from federal immigration custody, an appeals court sided with the White House over the deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, and Harvard and the Trump administration are reportedly trying to work out their many differences.Show Notes:Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

John is joined by Mark Warner, ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Lincoln Project founder Rick Wilson to discuss the story eclipsing all other political news this week: Signalgate. Although Warner is a consensus-seeking moderate Democrat and Wilson a bomb-throwing NeverTrump Republican, in their long careers both have come across their share of recklessness, sloppiness, and stupidity in the realm of national security. But neither has seen a more extravagant display of those defects than the Signal group chat in which Trump 2.0 officials shared sensitive details about the recent U.S. attack on Houthi rebels ahead of the attack. Warner and Wilson try to fathom the unfathomable while cataloging the vast risks involved and the deep lack of seriousness the episode suggests about Trump's foreign policy team.
