[Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*.]One of the very best parts of having a returning guest on Collider Ladies Night? Realizing how much they've accomplished during such a short period of time. Geraldine Viswanathan made her first Ladies Night appearance in 2020 for The Broken Hearts Gallery and since has completed a four-season run on Miracle Workers, starred opposite Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks and Sarah Snook in The Beanie Bubble, headlined Drive-Away Dolls with Margaret Qualley, made Oh, Hi! with Molly Gordon which secured distribution out of Sundance 2025, and now she's part of one of the biggest film franchises of all time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.Viswanathan makes her first MCU appearance as Mel in Thunderbolts*. She's Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) extremely attentive and diligent assistant. Initially, she seems quite loyal too, but when Bucky (Sebastian Stan) suggests Mel secretly slip him information on Val in hopes of having her impeached, eventually, Mel concedes. While that choice may suggest Mel's willingness to double-cross her boss, ultimately, she changes course again, pushing the button that saves Val's life from the Sentry (Lewis Pullman). So where does Mel stand? Does she skew more villain than hero? Does she still admire Valentina? That's exactly what I dug into with Viswanathan during her second Collider Ladies Night interview. Hosted on Acast. Today she speaks with Dr Ana Kiess about treating patients with prostate cancer and head and neck cancers, her research on the integration of radiopharmaceutical therapies, and the unique challenges women face in academic medicine while balancing leadership roles, research, and clinical responsibilities. Radiopharmaceuticals are a specialized group of drugs containing radioisotopes that emit radiation. They are used primarily in nuclear medicine and oncology for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. These treatments deliver targeted radiation doses directly to tumors, damaging the cancer cells' DNA and preventing their growth and spread. Dr Kiess highlights the ongoing clinical trials and advancements in radiopharmaceutical therapies, which are opening new possibilities for cancer treatment, especially in cases of prostate cancer. The discussion also emphasizes the collaborative environment at Johns Hopkins, where specialists from multiple disciplines work together to advance the field. Dr Kiess explains how this collaborative approach enhances research and patient care, allowing for the development of innovative treatment protocols that can more effectively target cancers.

Let's not forget that it also sent Natalie's kids to collegeWe (your EPM Conversations hosts) owe a lot – a financial kind of debt as well as a professional one – to Shankar and Hyperion/Oracle on premises /PBCS/EPBCS/EPM Cloud Planning. Seriously, I first set eyes on what was then Hyperion Planning Desktop (which alas I cannot find a screenshot of but know it's out there somewhere), I thought, “Cameron, you idiot, this is the future” and so it has been through (gulp) decades of work. Never, our Performance Management audience, look askance at a sure thing. Part of that product's success has been Shankar Viswanathan's careful stewardship of a product that grew from an application wrapper around Essbase (and a horrific and quickly abandoned Win32 app that was supposed to be the workspace of users of All Things Hyperion and yes, Shankar, I really do hope you didn't create that) to a complete EPM cloud platform. At its core, planning and budgeting hasn't at it's core really changed all that much (ZBB came and went, driver based planning is still here, and yes AI/ML now has its turn in the Wheel of Planning Fortune) but what we still call Planning certainly has. Of course Shankar didn't write each line of code nor did he define and design every bit and bob of UI, but it's easy to see his steady hand in Planning's evolution through the lens of customer success.IntrospectionEach and every one of EPM Conversations' guests is a joy for they are enthusiastic, open, thoughtful, visionary, and just about everything one might hope for in a colleague and a friend. Shankar is all of things and yet he is different. By that I mean Shankar is quiet in the physical sense. We struggled with Shankar's voice until we (we = Celvin) realized that is simply how Shankar talks; he is well worth listening to and the volume button on your phone isn't that hard to use. Sometimes how we think is reflected in how we speak: introspection, consideration, reasoning, and sensitivity don't need to be shouted to be understood. Shankar is well worth a listen.Maybe the most interesting partAll of what I wrote about Shankar's professional interests hold true for his personal ones. There's a wide range in all three areas of historical men, literature, and movies: E.O. Wilson, , Gandhi, and Steve Jobs for the historical figures, in reading, Ayn Rand as a teenager, to E.F. Schumacher's Small is Beautiful, John Kenneth Galbraith's The Anatomy of Power, and Fritjof Capra's The Tao of Physics, and finally a varied palette of movies in Shawshank Redemption, The Bang Bang Club, and Heat. This is, in case you've not been able to tell, one of my favorite episodes.Join us, won't you?

For this special two-part episode we've got something a little bit different. This time, Dr indu Viswanathan, who's been a guest on the show twice, is on the other side of the interviewing equation. She's speaking with a young Hindu man, who has a unique and important story to tell. Keshav was raised Hindu and began questing his beliefs, to the point that he converted to Islam and began publicly making stereotypical Hinduphobic comments and denouncing India. But Keshav had a change of heart and mind, and came back to Hinduism — only to receive threats for leaving Islam. At his request, we're calling him by the pseudonym 'Keshav' and disguising his voice. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

BIO: Shreekkanth (“Shree”) Viswanathan is the founder and portfolio manager of SVN Capital, a Chicago-based, concentrated, long-only, global equity-focused fund.STORY: Shree's biggest mistake is an error of omission. That is, after studying a particular business, he decided not to invest in it for various reasons. The stock turned out to be a multi-bagger a couple of years later.LEARNING: The qualitative strengths of a company are not always readily apparent in the financials. Get out and work in business; it will make you a better analyst and investor. “If you don't know who you are, the market is an expensive place to find out.”Shreekkanth Viswanathan Guest profileShreekkanth (“Shree”) Viswanathan is the founder and portfolio manager of SVN Capital, a Chicago-based, concentrated, long-only, global equity-focused fund. After graduating from the University of Chicago, Shree worked as an investment banker for a few years before moving over to the buy side. Shree describes his investment style as Value investing with a Quality overlay.Worst investment everBack in 2009, Shree was working as an analyst in Chicago. As the economy struggled to come out of the real estate-centered malaise, Shree studied a company called Copart Inc. Copart is the largest salvage yard company in the US. Its business model is pretty simple. When a vehicle on the road gets into an accident, it's hauled to a salvage yard. The insurance company covering that vehicle will quickly decide if they will pay the policyholder for repairs or total the vehicle and send it to the salvage yard. For various reasons, more and more insurance companies send damaged cars to the salvage yard.At the salvage yard, these vehicles are auctioned, and buyers will buy them to get parts, fix up their cars, or pull the parts and sell them. So, in any case, Copart is the middleman and gets paid from both sides. From its early days, the founder, Willis Johnson, had decided to own the land on which the salvage yards operate instead of leasing it. Given that real estate was the epicenter of the 2008/9 financial crisis, many businesses were cheap. Shree had been studying Copart and was impressed by the price. The market cap was about US$350 million. At that price, Shree would be paying for just the land in all the salvage yards that the company owns (about 140 yards around the country). He'd be getting the operations for free. That was the hypothesis Shree was working off. He did more research and then concluded that he wasn't only paying for the land at that price. After reaching that conclusion, Shree decided to move on. There were lots of other options. Over time as the economy improved and Copart's earnings and cash flow improved, the stock price reflected that improvement. Shree was just on the sidelines, watching the stock go up. By 2020, the stock was up 10x from 2009.Lessons learnedThe qualitative strengths of a company are not always readily apparent in the financials.Try understanding the strengths of the management teams of the companies you intend to invest in.Andrew's takeawaysGet out and work in business. It will make you a better analyst and investor.Actionable adviceInvesting is an individual sport, and we each have to play to our strengths.Shree's recommendationsShree recommends finding ways that help you get the vision, courage, and patience to invest.No.1 goal for the next 12...
