# 60 - in conversation with Belarusian filmmaker and writer, Vladimir Kozlov. Born in Mogilev, an industrial city in what is now Belarus, Vladimir Kozlov grew up amidst the unraveling of the Soviet Union. His formative years in the suburbs were marked by the chaos of the early 1990s—a time of unbridled freedom, wild capitalism, and rampant crime. Moving from Mogilev to Minsk and eventually to Moscow, Vladimir has dedicated his life to unpacking the legacy of the Soviet past. Through his writing and cinematographic work, he delves deep into the cultural and social fabric of Russian and Belarusian society, asking pressing questions: Where did we go wrong? What did we overlook, leading us back to a totalitarian and authoritarian reality? Translator Andrea Gregovich presents Vladimir Kozlov’s 1987 and Other Stories. A boy and girl risk a trip to the psych ward when they dress like punks after listening to a bootleg Sex Pistols cassette. A career-ending injury sends a football star back to his provincial hometown as the Soviet republics begin claiming independence. A university student risks police brutality to take part in a protest against the president of newly independent Belarus. These and the other stories in Vladimir Kozlov’s first translated e-book collection 1987 evoke the confusion of coming of age during perestroika. While Kozlov’s characters are absorbed in their own struggles, their stories are unavoidably political, mirroring their nation’s uncertainties and the existential crisis of their generation’s post-Soviet adulthood. Andrea Gregovich teaches in the Writing Dept. at UAA. She earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from University of Nevada Las Vegas. In addition to 1987, she translated USSR: Diary of a Perestroika Kid also by Vladimir Kozov. Vladimir Kozlov was born in 1972 in Belorussian Soviet Specialist Republic. His fiction and nonfiction has been long-listed for awards in Russia such as the National Bestseller prize, the Big Book prize, and twice for GQ Russia’s Writer of the Year.

The novel, Wake In Winter, is set in the provincial town of Rogozhin, which is a driving distance from Moscow. As Nina gets herself more and more involved in the adoption process, she becomes emotionally disturbed by the children she attempts to help, and finds herself involved in what looks more and more like an adoption mafia. At the event, Andrea Gregovich discusses her translation process and other work in progree. Andrea Gregovich earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from University of Nevada Las Vegas. Her translation of USSR, Diary of a Perestroika Kid by Vladimir Kozlov has been widely acclaimed. Episode 62's guest is someone who is and will be fondly remembered in WWE lore for decades to come, and that is Santino Marella. This episode is a real treat, as we get a look at more of the man than the character, getting into Santino's legit past in MMA, and find out how he made his way down to OVW where he was trained, and signed from by WWE. He mentions the trainer who he learned the most from, as well as what he thought about working under Paul Heyman with a very different gimmick than what he eventually debuted as. Santino Marella is, of course, that gimmick, and we discuss his big debut in Italy, beating Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship. Shortly thereafter, he lost the title back to Umaga, and eventually turned heel. He talks about how and why he believes the original way the character was portrayed didn't get over with the audience, and briefly covers working with Maria Kanellis. From there, Santino always seemed to be in the mix with big name returning stars, and celebrity guests, showing the trust the company began to have in him. We covered his times mixing it up with names like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Snoop Dogg, and even possible Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump! Santino wasn't very impressed with Trump's abilities as an entertainer, and he explains why. We go over the "Glamarella" team, his second IC title run, and the Honkameter. He also had some unique appearances in the Royal Rumble, including one of the quickest eliminations of all time, and lasting until the final two with Alberto Del Rio in 2011. Santino then talks about the audience's unique connection to the character in an almost "Rocky Balboa" like way, as he would always be so close to winning a big one or climbing further up the ladder, only to ultimately lose. We discuss his championship team with Vladimir Kozlov, and how their association changed his character. We go over many other things, including wrestling conventions, working with John Laurinaitis both behind the curtain and in front of the camera, how he came up with "The Cobra," and the ultimate battle between his Cobra and Mick Foley's "Mr. Socko," the return of Brock Lesnar, CM Punk's departure and his chances at succeeding in the UFC, the WWE Network, the neck injuries that ultimately shortened his in-ring career, and finally, the problems with NXT gimmicks not working on the main roster, as well as working with Emma, and what may have shortened their team and their angle together. We also discuss Santino's "Battle Arts Academy," what inspired it, what he hopes for it in the future, and if it could ultimately become a feeder program for NXT. You can visit Battle Arts Academy at battleartsacademy.ca and you can follow Santino on Twitter at @milanmiracle. Please support Creative Control by going to prowrestlingtees.com/ccwithjoefeeney and checking out our t shirts. Pluggable coherent 100G modules are a significant topic of conversation here at OFC 2014. But what are the prospects for their adoption? Vladimir Kozlov, founder and CEO of market research firm LightCounting, discusses his company’s market figures for coherent 100G for 2013, his expectations for 2014 and beyond, and how large a portion of port market share modules might fill.
Vladimir Kozlov, founder and CEO of market research firm LightCounting, offers his take on 2012 in line side and client side 100G transceiver sales, as well as what he expects in 2013. He also points out the difficulty technologists will face as they attempt to enable the next generation of 200-Gbps and 400-Gbps data rates.
History repeats itself (again) as Joey and and chris react to the latest and lamest version of the infamous Montreal Screw Job that took place in the Impact Zone. As if that wasn't enough, they are also forced to comment upon the absurdity of turning AJ Styles in to the next Nature Boy. They also get up to date on ROH with an in depth review of the past month on HDNet, throw out ideas on how to make Vladimir Kozlov interesting, speculate on Santino's upcoming sitcom and get excited about new women's wrestling organizations opening in the coming year. So is it safe to watch TNA again? Listen and find out. In this, the longest installment of the Wrestling House Show yet, Joey and chris share with you some of Lance Storm's wrestling rules and point out how pretty much every show this past week broke at least one of these commandments. They provide you with hours of entertainment and knowledge including five rumors in five minutes, Vladimir Kozlov getting confused about the draft, Larry Sweeney accosting WWE fans at Wrestlemania 25 and an email from Michael Cole's biggest (and only) fan where the crew gets asked to pick who they think should really be the commentating teams for Raw, Smackdown and ECW. After a one week hiatus, Alex is back with episode 159 of "No Holds Barred!" In this episode, Alex talks about the returns of John Cena and Edge, and the WWE build to "Armageddon" and beyond. The "Wrestlemania" build is slowly beginning to take shape, and Alex makes some predictions about where the WWE might be heading towards Mania. Alex also speaks about the latest JBL and Shawn Michaels feud, MVP's losing streak, and whether Vladimir Kozlov is really as bad as some make him out to be. Running Time: 2 Hours 17 Minutes Hey everyone, Don Tony here. As promised, I have started the process of bringing back online retro wrestling hotline and podcast episodes going back as early as 2002! I wish I had my archives of wrestling hotline episodes from 1997-2001. Unfortunately, at that time, no one was podcasting. The technology wasn't developed yet. And I didn't come up with the idea of posting my audio hotline episodes online until 2002. However, the good news is that there are close to 1000 episodes of archived content from 2002 thru 2019 that will be made available online soon! This retro episode of 'The Minority Report' hosted by Don Tony, Joey 9:24, Black Moses, Kevin Castle and Smoked Out goes back to January 15, 2007. Please keep in mind that these older episodes were recorded at a time when everyone did their podcasting thru telephones. So the audio quality is primitive. I did the best I could to boost the quality a bit. I think the audio quality of the current shows has significantly increased since we recorded this episode in January 2007. Looking back at this episode, it's entertaining to hear the discussion about CM Punk unhappy with WWE creative all the way back in 2006. And when we reveal the winners of the 2006 Blackhearts Year End Awards, check out the discussion on The Miz. He has come a loooooooooong way from 2006. Enjoy this flashback to January 2007! The results of our 2006 Blackheart Year End Awards! Hulk Hogan reveals the 10 wrestlers he told WWE to put in 2007 Hall Of Fame.
