What happens when AI agents begin to outnumber humans? In this episode of The Tech Talks Daily Podcast, I sit down with Steve Lucas, CEO of Boomi, to explore this thought-provoking prediction and what it means for businesses, the workforce, and society. With extensive experience leading companies through transformative journeys, Steve brings invaluable insights into how organizations can prepare for a future dominated by AI. Steve delves into the concept of the “AI big bang,” where AI agents are set to fundamentally reshape workforce dynamics and decision-making processes. He highlights how these agents are rapidly evolving, influencing everything from customer service and supply chain management to market analysis. But with this growth comes the pressing need for transparency, explainability, and control. How can businesses avoid being overwhelmed by this AI influx? Steve argues that companies must reimagine work processes and establish robust AI governance frameworks to ensure human oversight and ethical AI deployment. As AI becomes deeply integrated into everyday business functions, Steve outlines the critical role of protocols for future communication. The rapid evolution of technology requires clear frameworks to enable AI agents to interact in ways we can understand and control. He shares how Boomi is addressing this challenge by developing an AI governance platform designed to help organizations manage agent creation, execution, and compliance effectively. Steve also reflects on how business leaders can stay ahead in this rapidly changing landscape. With AI set to revolutionize global learning and knowledge accessibility, continuous learning becomes essential. Drawing on advice from industry leaders, Steve emphasizes the importance of dedicating time to understanding AI technologies and using AI itself for personalized learning experiences. This episode offers a deep look into how AI will shape the future of work, the critical need for governance, and the opportunities and risks that lie ahead. As AI agents become a powerful force in business, how will your organization adapt? Are you ready for the cognitive revolution that's already underway? Let us know your thoughts after the conversation.
Our guests on this episode of Data Driven Finance are Stephen Fishman and Matt McLarty, authors of the book “Unbundling the Enterprise – APIs, Optionality, and the Science of Happy Accidents.” Stephen is North America Field CTO at Boomi and a Strategic Advisor at Revenium, while Matt is Boomi's Chief Technology Officer. There's a lot in the book about APIs, what they can power, and how they can be leveraged to create the experiences we'll be experiencing ahead. Topics covered include: What finance businesses should know about what APIs can do that tech experts already know? Why companies who leveraged APIs early rapidly became some of the biggest in the world. Did you know Google Maps never intended to make their API available to third party developers? Hear why they did. Who are the financial businesses that gave themselves an advantage years ago? What does it mean to “unbundle the enterprise”? How are financial institutions doing in terms of awareness and adoption of API opportunities? What is capability capitalization? Why it's better for finserv companies to go on offense with optionality than to engage in “reluctant compliance” with regulations. The three methodologies financial businesses need for an effective API strategy. The value in data being non-fungible, non-rivalrous, and experience-dependent. What are the risks of this kind of API-driven digital transformation? Helpful Links Stephen Fiscman Matt McLarty Unbundling the Enterprise book Boomi Yodlee
A chatbot is an Artificial Intelligence program that chats with you. The 1960s saw the first chatbot. It was called ELIZA and was developed by MIT professor Joseph Weizenbaum. Six decades later, we have ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot joining the likes of Alexa and Siri. While chatbots use pattern matching and natural language processing to interpret user inputs and choose the right responses from a set of pre-programmed options, AI agents engage in more complex, multi-step interactions that may span different platforms or services. AI agents take the next step from chatbots moving the needle of engagement between human and machines. In this PodChats for FutureCIO, we are joined by David Irecki, chief technology officer for Asia Pacific and Japan at Boomi to walk us through the realities of AI agents – what you and I need to know, separating hype from reality.1. Define AI agent as understood by most users in Asia (both tech and non-tech)?2. What key factors differentiate AI agent hype from reality for organizations?3. Since you brought it up, how can businesses ensure high data quality for effective AI deployment?4. Scale out issues have been a recuring topic when RPAs came out and it may be part of the challenge with AI. From your experience, what common pitfalls should organizations avoid when adopting AI agents?5. One of the promises of AI is improving productivity – at least this is the hope. In what ways can AI agents drive productivity and cost savings in specific industries? Any pitfalls to avoid?6. How can AI agents enhance customer experiences across different sectors?7. How can businesses maintain accountability and governance while leveraging AI agents effectively?8. This 2025, what is your advice for lines of business, finance, IT and security work together to design or architect or transform processes so they can avail of the promise of AI agents without introducing unnecessary risks in the process?

In the ever-evolving landscape of tech startups, few stories are as compelling as Rick Nucci's journey from founding Boomi to launching Guru. A serial entrepreneur with a track record of success, Rick's career is a masterclass in leveraging market opportunities and navigating the complexities of scaling a business. Rick's company, Guru, has attracted funding from top-tier investors like FirstMark Capital, Emergence Capital, MSD Capital, Slack, and Thrive Capital.
In this episode, I was lucky enough to interview a very, very special guest, Rick Nucci, CEO and co-founder of Guru.Rick, highly regarded in the Philadelphia tech scene, reflected on a memorable moment at the Founder Factory event, where he humorously referenced a sports figure to highlight the significance of operations roles in companies. He emphasized the vital role of operations professionals in leveraging AI and technology to enhance business efficiency, drawing a parallel to the often underappreciated role of a center in a football team. This analogy, although met with mixed reactions, underscored his belief in the transformative potential of operations teams.Rick also delved into his entrepreneurial journey, starting with his early ventures and the creation of Boomi. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania with entrepreneurial parents, Rick was inspired to start his own business at a young age. Boomi, a pioneering integration platform, emerged from the observed pain points in software deployment and integration. Despite initial challenges and competition, Rick and his team pivoted to focus on cloud-native integration, which proved to be a successful strategy. He credited Boomi's long-term success to a culture of innovation and a seamless transition plan that ensured continuity and growth even after his departure. Now at the helm of Guru, Rick continues to innovate, providing solutions that enable employees to access essential information efficiently, fostering a productive work environment.Set sail with Rick Nucci as we chart a course through the realm of tech innovation and leadership in this thrilling episode of The First Customer!Guest Info:Guruhttps://www.getguru.comRick Nucci's LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/ricknucci/Connect with Jay on LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/jayaigner/The First Customer Youtube Channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@thefirstcustomerpodcastThe First Customer podcast websitehttps://www.firstcustomerpodcast.comFollow The First Customer on LinkedInhttp://www.linkedin.com/company/the-first-customer-podcast/

With the help of our guest, Head of Marketing Production at Boomi, Danalynne Menegus, we're talking about building a community, creating a sense of exclusivity, and personalizing your marketing.About our guest, Danalynne MenegusDanalynne Menegus is Head of Marketing Content Production at Boomi. She joined the company in 2018 as Senior Consultant, Marketing Communications. In her current role, she is the editorial lead and manager of Boomi's content production process for external-facing marketing assets, from concept through publication, and manager of the Boomi Blog. She has previously served as Global Product Marketing Lead of Cloud & Virtualization Software Platforms at Dell; Managing Editor of Corporate Event News, an online publication for event professionals; and Director of Marketing at Sybase/SAP.What B2B Companies Can Learn From Portland Leather Goods:Build a community. Create a space for customers to come together and spread the word about your brand. Word of mouth is an incredibly effective way to drive sales. Danalynne says, “digital marketing is something that's gotten more and more sophisticated, but if you are going to do it, be smart about it and draw upon a community. Try and build a community because if you can get other people to really love your product and talk about it, evangelize it, then you are going to get many more customers or even just potential interest.”Create a sense of exclusivity. Invite top users to a special community with exclusive benefits and incentives. Danalynne says, “Fear of missing out can go a long way if people feel like they're only going to have a deal for a limited time, or even that you're doing something specially for them, and hopefully you really are, but to me that translates into programs like loyalty programs, or or Customers where, you know, you're a loyal customer. So we're going to give you a discount, or we're going to give you maybe a free pass for an event.”Personalize your marketing. Write to your viewer as if you were talking to them in person, and put your personality in it! Danalynne says, ”Behind every brand, there are people. So even in a B2B marketing outreach or B2B sell, you're still selling to a person. And you want to build those relationships. That's what any good salesperson does, or any community manager or customer advocacy manager, or anybody who has those relationships as part of their job does, because people want to buy from people. So if you personalize [your marketing], that's the best way to market.”Quotes*”If you're trying to draw people in who know nothing about what you do or your industry or your product, or more importantly, The problems that you can help them solve, you need to lay that out in language that they're going to understand, in the format that they want to consume it in, and on the channel that they want to receive it in.” - Danalynne MenegusTime Stamps[0:55] Meet Danalynne Menegus, Head of Marketing Content Production at Boomi[6:09] The Birth and Rise of Portland Leather Goods[13:36] Unboxing the Mystery: A Personal Experience with Portland Leather Goods[17:26] Marketing Insights: Building a Brand and Community[27:31] From Bags to B2B: Marketing Lessons from Portland Leather Goods[31:47] Behind the Scenes: Crafting Content at Boomi[39:56] Final Thoughts: Humanizing Your Marketing StrategyLinksCheck out Portland Leather GoodsConnect with Danalynne on LinkedInLearn more about BoomiAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. The devotion for today, Wednesday, May 10, 2023 was written by Donald (Luke) Day and is narrated by Rev. Andria Davis.Today's Words of Inspiration come from the writings of Corrie ten BoomI prayed to dispel my fear, until suddenly, and I do not know how the idea came to me, I began to pray for others. I prayed for everyone who came into my thoughts - - people with whom I had traveled, those who had been in prison with me, my school friends of years ago. I do not know how long I continued my prayer, but this I do know - - my fear was gone! Interceding for others had released me! Support the show

Benjamin Mena, host of the Elite Recruiter Podcast, is joined by James Dyson, the Head of Global DEI for Talent Acquisition at Boomi. James talks about how he got into recruiting, as he was previously a fitness trainer living in DC. He transitioned into marketing and then found his way into agency recruiting. He then he had a few others moves before landing at Boomi where he is now the head of their DEI for Talent Acquisition. Boomi's mission is to connect the world through their multiple API connectors and the systems that they are able to use to connect different platforms and organizations within a company. James sees Boomi's name on resumes in the cleared space, showing the reach of their technology. The conversation discussed the current environment for diversity and inclusion in the recruiting world. The key point was that companies need to be more strategic than tactical in order to hire diverse talent. Companies should be a place that diverse talent wants to come and should back up the things they are proclaiming their company does. This could include offering mentorship programs and creating a workplace that is open, transparent and supportive of different backgrounds and opinions. Additionally, companies should reach out to diverse organizations and networks to get the word out and build relationships with potential hires. The conversation is about how to best recruit diverse talent for organizations. The speaker stresses that the first step to successful diversity recruiting is to make the organization itself more diverse. To do this, organizations should get involved in the community where potential candidates reside, and ensure that there are members of the company and corporate teams that reflect various backgrounds and identities. The speaker then suggests looking into various diversity-focused organizations that can be tapped into to find potential candidates, depending on the makeup of the organization. For example, if the organization is lacking in female representation, they should look into organizations such as Latinas in Tech, Black Girls Who Code, NESB, SWEET, and the National Association of Women's Sales Professionals. Recruiting members of underrepresented communities can be a challenge, but there are a few ways to do it. First and foremost, it is important to be honest and genuine in all interactions. Consider attending events, conferences, and hackathons that are specifically targeted towards these groups. Showcasing products and services is also a great way to get people interested. Additionally, going to the areas where these communities are located and being present is a great way to let them know you are interested. Finally, if you are looking for a job, don't expect people to fly out to you, rather fly out to them and make those connections. Rick is a local startup celebrity having started two startups in Philadelpha. His first was Boomi, which was bought by Dell, then spun out again and is still located in the Philadelphia area. His current startup is Guru, which is an internal communication tool for business. Rick's entrepreneurial journey began: Rick bet big on the future of the cloud when he founded Boomi in 2000. The early years were tough though; he ran into some challenging chapters and has openly said that "Boomi 1.0 failed" — however, this failure taught him some lessons that later helped him build Boomi up to be acquired by Dell and to start Guru in 2013 Starting Guru: Rick often talks about Guru being born out of necessity — he saw that most intranets and wikis had painfully low adoption and usability, which meant that employees often didn't have access to the information needed to do their jobs. He founded Guru to offer companies a new way to solve this age-old problem. The new world of work: as Rick guided Guru through the pandemic and shift to remote work, he formed strong opinions about the new world of work — a topic he's hugely passionate about these days — and believes that many companies are struggling to thrive in the remote-first world because they're still approaching challenges around productivity, employee engagement, and agility in with old-world thinking Find Rick Online https://www.linkedin.com/in/ricknucci/ https://getguru.com/ https://twitter.com/ricknucci/ https://www.phillystartupleaders.org/ If you're enjoying Entrepreneur's Enigma, please give us a review on the podcast directory of your choice. The SourceDay Story with Tom Kieley Tom Kieley and Joe Lynch discuss the SourceDay story. Tom is the CEO and Co-Founder of SourceDay, a company that integrates with ERPs to automate purchase order (PO) changes and enable supplier collaboration. About Tom Kieley Tom Kieley is the CEO and Co-Founder of SourceDay, an Austin based technology company that automates purchase order (PO) changes and enables supplier collaboration. Prior to co-founding SourceDay, Tom managed a manufacturing team at Dell. Earlier in his career, Tom worked as technical expert with enterprise software companies Boomi and Pervasive. Tom and his co-founder Clint McRee started SourceDay in 2015 to transform how manufacturers, distributors, and retailers collaborate with their suppliers in order to solve supply chain challenges they both faced early in their careers. Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University. On a personal level, Tom is a dad, lover of sports, and exercise fanatic. He loves cars and anything outdoors. About SourceDay Today more than ever, supply chains are broken, unstable and disrupting organizations throughout the world. SourceDay helps small to large organizations solve their complex supply chain challenges in manufacturing, distribution and consumer product goods. SourceDay provides unique collaboration software that bridges the legacy gap between suppliers and the ERP by automating purchase order (PO) changes throughout the entire direct spend lifecycle. With SourceDay's suite of collaborative products, procurement teams can trace a single part from PO issuance to acknowledgment and final delivery, giving organizations unprecedented visibility into the first mile of their supply chain. Key Takeaways: The SourceDay Story Tom Kieley is the CEO and Co-Founder of SourceDay, an Austin based technology company that automates purchase order (PO) changes and enables supplier collaboration. In the podcast interview, Tom told the story of co-founding SourceDay and described the company's mission, solutions, and rapid growth. Everyday disruptions like late shipments, missed emails, and miscommunications cause 50% of direct spend PO lines to change. During times of major disruption, this number gets even higher. The relationship between buyers and suppliers is broken. Every quote, purchase order and invoice is still emailed repeatedly, updated manually and chased down daily. SourceDay automates PO line changes which eliminates manual work with email, spreadsheets, phone calls and text messages. As a result, companies can reduce late shipments, inventory carrying costs, pricing discrepancies, and out of stock issues. SourceDay integrates with their customer's ERP to automate purchase order (PO) changes and enable supplier collaboration. SourceDay automates communication between buyers and suppliers and integrates with any ERP system. SourceDay is a Software as a Service that extends manufacturing and distribution organization's ERP capabilities; improving supplier on-time deliveries, increasing inventory turns, reducing supply chain errors, and optimizing the use of working capital. Energage initially started with product that does “Top Workplace”. Companies purchase Energage to get a better sense of the data and use that to engage effectively with employees. Energage customers are small enterprises (50) to large enterprises (5000+ employees.). Overall 8000 customers; both paying and non-paying. Split is roughly 50/50. Team - Roughly 7 onboarding and support team, customer education team (just starting), product services (just starting) and customer success (5 and expanding). Technology — Case management (Salesforce), Contact Center (RingCentral), In-app education (Pendo). Case volume — Roughly 1700 cases per month. 80% over email , Chat (15% over intercom), Phone (5% over ringcentral). 80% case volume is Tier-1 (cases that should not have been filed). Rest are Tier-2 (cases that require agents) and Tier-3 (case that require engineering to be involved). Knowledge — prefer how-to articles more than video (text gives context quickly vs video). Knowledge creation needs to be part of case workflow (KCS — Knowledge Centered Support). 2020 Initiatives — Create a support portal, community (how to drive customers there first), knowledge management (keeping it current) Would like to see average time per case going up which means agents are having more meaningful conversations — Metrics (Net/Gross Retention Revenue, NPS, CSAT, Customer Health Score, etc., Paid premier support is a good way to generate revenue for support teams (at Boomi, it had ~50% attach rate). Chatbots — curious but not part of 2020 plan. Resources: Podcasts - Helping Sells Radio, Revisionist History
