#52 Aim for Skills to Start Your JourneyPlaying with your shoelaces and thinking about running is not the same as entering the race and placing yourself on the starting the line. When you decide to become skillful in your art whether it is Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi Chuan, Sword, Xing Yi Quan, or Qigong is when your journey really begins. By committing yourself to regular, focused practice and paying with your time and effort you earn the real skills, physique, and health benefits of your training. I also discuss how my teachers Ba Gua Zhang Master Zhang Hua Sen and Chen Family Tai Chi Master Chen Xiao Wang escaped hardship by mastering their arts. This is somewhat different than the sacrifices required in modern life. When you decide to become skillful and spend the time and effort you will also meet your own mind, and train it and your will power to keep your feet on the path and heading toward your goal. In addition, I have a fun question that will help you meet your own mind and find out who is driving the car on this journey!Sign up for our newsletter to find out about free webinars and other great courses Here: https://10000victories.com/newsletter/Our School is found HereOur Blog is found HereInformation about Northern Style of Shaolin Kung Fu is found Here.Information about Xing Yi Quan is found here.Information about Sifu Scott Jensen is found here.Information about Kung Fu Animal Power can be found here (new page coming soon!)

#39 Wu De - Martial Virtue - Guan Gong's Awakening Sutra and the Goal of Marital ArtsIn this episode we explore Wu De or "Martial Virtue" the code of conduct and honor among martial artists. Guan Gong is the Chinese God of War and is the God most revered by classical martial artists. In this episode I read Guan Gong's Awakening Sutra. This is the official words of God Of War defining what Wu De is. Although a tad long, it is a clear and strong message about living a life with good morality, integrity, and honor. In addition, I share my thoughts on this subject and give a few examples of Wu De in self defense, and in the world of Hong Kong martial arts movies and stuntmen. Stories from Old Beijing and Master Zhang Hua SenEvery time I studied with Zhang Hua Sen he told me at least one lengthy story. Zhang was a master story teller and he loved to tell these stories. For me they were always a high point of any time we were together. Zhang was trained as a child to star in the Beijing Opera as the Monkey King and he was used to performing and hamming it up. He had a flair for showmanship and liked to use many gestures and animated facial expressions. Because he was a classically trained performer he had been taught exactly how to use every muscle in his face to correctly portray the emotions in each scene so the audience could follow the story. I am so grateful he shared these stories with me. I hope you like them as much as I do.In this story I talk about the Tung Hai Chang's "Special" disciple and his incredible circle walking practice and phenomenal strength. I like this story because it illustrates traditional strength development in the classical combat oriented martial art of Ba Gua Zhang and the nature of reaching excellence in any style of martial arts from any region of the world. I also mention that some of Zhang's incredible strength and ability to withstand blows was due to the actual success of his Qigong method.Find our the first information about our new Ba Gua Zhang Online course. Our school website is here. In this episode I share the verbal instructions on Post Standing Qigong, a wonderful, healing, breathing exercise and meditation, I frequently practice and teach. I use these instructions to lead this exercise in class, and teach my students to perform at home. This exercise is perfect for total beginners. It is also a great place to begin if you are recovering from an injury or illness. Post Standing can also help if you are subject to the stress and tension so common in our modern world. Post Standing Qigong requires a minimum amount of space and no equipment. You can practice this Qigong as long as you wish. It is truly a simple and safe method that yields great results. Not quick results but slow drop by drop results that add up gradually to deep change. The instructions given in this podcast will help you to establish a good practice method. You can practice as long as you desire and you have enough strength. I encourage you to listen to my previous episodes about qigong particularly:Episode #10 "Protecting Your Qi" https://ancientwisdommodernhealth.com/episodes/10-secrets-to-protect-your-qiEpisode #8 "What is Qigong?" https://ancientwisdommodernhealth.com/episodes/8-what-is-qi-gong**New Classes Coming Soon!**San Rafael Community Center - New classes starting January 6th, 2020!
