In this episode of Journeys of No So Ordinary People podcast Dr. Dave and Dr. Joe have a conversation with military spouse and Gold Star spouse Krista Anderson as she guides listeners through the vital but often overlooked practice of planning for the unexpected. Drawing on deeply personal experience—losing her husband, a decorated Green Beret, in combat—she emphasizes the importance of preemptively understanding and organizing essential logistics: everything from knowing how to shut off the main water valve and access household accounts, to ensuring vital documents like passwords, usernames, death benefits, and last wishes are accessible to loved ones. She encourages couples to approach tough topics like funeral preferences and estate details in a lighthearted, proactive way—like making planning part of a “date night.” Christa also underscores the value of consolidating all necessary information—bills, asset details, financial account logins, powers of attorney, wills, trust arrangements for children, and emergency contacts—into a centralized binder or cloud folder. Her practical advice extends to leveraging resources such as JAG offices, aid societies, and free estate-planning tools to simplify these preparations and reduce the burden on survivors.JONSOP https://jonsop.comjonsopdr2@gmail.com Krista Andersonhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/krista-s-anderson/https://www.theunquietprofessional.org/krista@theunquietprofessional.orgDr. Joe Hamlett dr.joehamlett@gmail.com http:/www.leading2changeconsulting.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/drjoehamlett/ http:/www.leading2changeconsulting.com/linkinbio/ Dr. Dave Peltz PeltzCS@outlook.com https://www.PeltzConsultingServices.com/services https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-david-peltz-phd/ https://tinyurl.com/DrDavePeltz Music intro & Outro provided by David T. In Episode 254, Part 3 of the Mike Drop podcast, host Mike Ritland continues his conversation with former Green Beret Mark Gianconia, delving into the complex motivations behind the Iraq War and Mark's post-combat transition. The episode opens with a discussion on the murky intelligence surrounding weapons of mass destruction and the decision to invade Iraq, exploring whether it was a justified response to perceived threats or influenced by ulterior motives. Mark reflects on the chaotic post-invasion landscape, including his role in devastating airstrikes against the Iraqi military, navigating minefields, and managing volatile tribal factions in Tuz. He shares the emotional toll of combat, including feelings of guilt and fear, which led to his decision to leave special operations. Mark's career pivots dramatically as he becomes an instructor for the 18 Fox intelligence course, mastering geospatial intelligence and coding, which propels him into a tech career. He also discusses his book, One Green Beret, a cathartic effort to process his experiences, and his current role in geospatial technology, emphasizing AI as a tool rather than a threat. A 20-year Army veteran who traded infantry boots for Special Forces grit, Mark opens up about his raw reaction to 9/11—burning with jealousy as Fifth Group charged into Afghanistan, only to carve his own pinnacle in Iraq's brutal ops. But before the GWOT glory, he takes us back to the forgotten chaos of Bosnia in the late '90s, where peacekeeping turned into high-stakes intel gathering: embedding in remote villages, renting houses amid fresh war scars, and dodging tense standoffs with Serbian cops who grabbed their weapons at the sight of an American. From concealed pistols and civilian rides to wild encounters—like spotting a Beirut bombing fugitive in a roadside eatery or monitoring Russian convoys on the brink of World War III—Mark's stories pulse with the raw edge of undercover life in a powder keg. We geek out on metal shredding (check Patreon for the deep dive), philosophy from Socrates to Nietzsche, and his time-travel wish to homestead in colonial Connecticut. Whether it's surviving Ranger School's 200+ day grind, losing 40 pounds in the suck, or bonding with locals over slivovitz amid genocide echoes, this episode hooks you with unfiltered warrior wisdom, historical twists, and the unexamined life's brutal truths. For over three decades, retired Colonel Stu Bradin served on the front lines of some of America's most critical Special Operations missions from Central America and the Balkans to Northern Africa and Afghanistan. He led Special Forces teams under fire, built NATO's Special Operations Headquarters from the ground up, and ran multi-national, interagency fusion cells in the heart of combat zones. But in 2014, Stu Bradin saw a different kind of threat emerging: disconnected allies, stovepiped intelligence, and fragmented Special Operations communities. He knew the next fight against cyberattacks, transnational crime, and terrorist networks would require something we didn't yet have: a global SOF network. That's why he created the Global Special Operations Forces Foundation (GSOF); the first nonprofit dedicated to uniting Special Operations military, government, and commercial partners across the world.Fran Racioppi sat down with Stu during this year's SOF Week to talk about why he founded GSOF, what it takes to bring together over 60 nations and 85 industry partners, and how his experiences building NATO SOF HQ and leading interagency teams shaped the Foundation's mission. They explored what elite leadership really looks like at the global level, the danger of operating in silos, and why SOF must evolve its mindset as rapidly as its technology.Stu also broke down how GSOF accelerates innovation, helps SOF units and partners connect in real time, and creates space for public-private collaboration that can meet the speed and complexity of modern threats to answer the hardest question of today; what must Special Operations become to win the next fight? This episode is about global leadership, unity of effort, and how one Green Beret's post-military mission is helping shape the future of Special Operations across the world.Highlights0:00 Introduction2:02 Welcome to SOF Week3:17 Significance of Global SOF Foundation7:38 Prioritizing Small Businesses11:02 Defining the Next Battlefield19:00 NATO SOF23:05 American's Propensity to Serve27:33 Winning the Next Fight30:55 Getting Equipment to Warfighters35:35 What it means to be a Green BeretQuotes“What makes us different is we're international and we're joint and nobody else is that way.”“Part of what you have to do as a SOF commander in the joint environment is unite your tribes.”“The innovation comes from small businesses.”“Most small businesses fail because of catastrophic success not catastrophic failure.”“If you're wrapped in metal, you have zero probability of survival.”“You can't just assume that your enemy is ignorant because they're not.”“I wouldn't want to be on the modern battlefield.”“Our deterrent is having the best partners we can.”“We back into wars, we don't run to them.”“They're going to be our future whether we like it or not, so we've got to make sure that they are armed to do the right thing.”“I think we need to give the NCO corps a lot more latitude.”“If people know you can get to them quickly, they have to calculate for that.”“At the end of the day, most of the stuff we're fielding right now is not going to survive first contact.” “Ultimately, you have a less trained force.” “SOF, cyber, intel, information and economics. Two familiar Republican names from last year’s election are back in the news: Joe Kent and Pete Serrano. They’re not running for election, but they may be finding success instead with federal appointments. Kent is a former Green Beret who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House twice in District 3. The Senate approved his appointment as director of the National Counterterrorism Center late last month. Serrano was the mayor of Pasco and ran for Washington Attorney General against Nick Brown. It was reported last week that he is the presumptive pick to take over as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. For many candidates who lose statewide office, a failed campaign is the end of the line, so how have these GOP candidates from a deep blue state been able to give new life to their political careers? We're bringing you two powerhouse voices who aren't just talking about change—they've risked everything to make it happen. First up, LTC (Ret.) Dr. Pete Chambers, a decorated Green Beret, physician, and whistleblower who's now running for Governor of Texas. From the battlefields overseas to the front lines of border security and medical freedom, Doc Pete has fought for liberty at every turn—and now, he's taking that fight to Austin. Then, you'll hear from Erik Holt, a former Fire Chief whose stand for election integrity cost him his job, his savings, and nearly his livelihood. When faced with clear evidence of election misconduct, he refused to look the other way—even when corrupt officials demanded he destroy it. Fired, blacklisted, and forced into a costly legal battle, Erik's fight is about more than his own case—it's about whether public servants in America can speak truth without losing their rights. This isn't just another episode—it's a rallying cry. You'll hear stories of courage, sacrifice, and the high price of integrity in today's America. If you've ever wondered what it looks like to stand your ground when everything is on the line, you won't want to miss this one.

In Part 3: Kyle Steiner explains how "Comfort and Progress, don't live in the same home." Combat, war and pushing your body to the extreme may seem uncomfortable to most, but were areas where Kyle felt at home. With retirement from the Army fast approaching, Kyle opens about what he finds uncomfortable in civilian life and how he needs to push past that initial hesitation in order to be the man that his children will be proud to call their father. There are no excuses for mediocrity and in this final installment of The Present Father's Interview with Kyle Steiner, he explains that he plans on taking on civilian life, fatherhood and any other future challenges with the same gusto that he approached his time in the military. Send us a textToday, I'm honored to introduce you to Brandon Young and Blayne Smith—co-authors of the impactful book “Perseverance is Greater than Endurance: Lead with Resilience. Grow through Adversity. Win Together.” What do Brandon, a former US Army Ranger, and Blayne, a former Green Beret, know about leadership? Quite a bit. Their experiences in high-pressure environments have shaped a practical, values-based leadership philosophy that's both insightful and relevant. When I received this book, I immediately read it from cover to cover and have even begun re-reading it. And I did something I don't typically do: I highlighted the heck out of it, I scribbled in the margins, I dog-eared pages, all the things.  It was too good not to! The parallels to nursing really resonated with me, as their insights about leadership apply equally whether you're in a war zone, a corporate meeting, or on a busy hospital floor. Brandon and Blayne are the driving forces behind Applied Leadership Partners, and they've formed strategic partnerships with major companies like Nike, Walmart, Starbucks, Microsoft, and Amazon. They emphasize the importance of adopting impactful leadership practices to create strong, cohesive teams. And if anyone belongs here, they do. As I told Brandon and Blayne, their credibility got them in the room, and their humility keeps them in the space. On top of their achievements, they also host the Applied Leadership Podcast, which I genuinely enjoy. The format is refreshing: two friends, one question, half an hour, zero script. Their conversations are not only thoughtful but also sprinkled with fun, addressing topics about life, business, and leadership. Nurse or not, you need to hear Brandon and Blayne's powerful messages delivered with experience, humor, and humility. In the five-minute snippet: You'll get to see just how well they know each other—it's a fun take on the Newlywed Game! For Brandon and Blayne's bios, visit my website (link below).Contact The Conversing Nurse podcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/theconversingnursepodcast/Website: https://theconversingnursepodcast.comYour review is so important to this Indie podcaster! Talk Back to MeWhile the Antihero Podcast has gone through great journalistic lengths to investigate the claims made by Tim Kennedy in his book, this episode is to probe the question of how someone could have gotten so far without someone noticing. The Special Operations community is small, and everyone knows each other or at least has a pretty short chain of connection. When someone claims to have an award or to have graduated some prestigious course, it's relatively easy to verify if you know the right channels. With this being the case, one might wonder how Tim Kennedy got away with publishing a record in the form of a book of his exploits, which are easily verifiable, and no one noticed for years. But there's another side to this dark story, one where resentment is concealed as holding others accountable. And it begs the question of what to do with those who break the trust of their community. The Bible contains warnings against gloating over your enemy's downfall, and this lesson as well as others from the same book can be applied to this situation.  Use Code 2025deaddrop10 for 10% off your order at obsidianarms.comThis episode has been sponsored by Obsidian Arms, a manufacturer of tools, parts and firearms, as well as operating as an OEM shop for those looking to bring excellence to the market. Hello!Today, we talk about what the hell ICE is wearing out in the streets of American cities, “operator cosplay” which is the phenomenon of yahoos dressing up like they're in special forces, and we talk a whole lot about ICE's policy of wearing masks in public. We also continue our long search for the pod's Joe House and bring on Kang's college roommate, a veteran Green Beret who explains what ICE is wearing and why. This is a public episode. Green Berets are America's best problem solvers. There's no challenge too great and no solution that cannot be found. This mentality exists in service and beyond. Ben Harrow solved complex challenges as a West Point Lacrosse star, leading soldiers in Iraq, and as he joined Special Forces to be a Green Beret in the Army. Today he's the President of PAM Jets solving aviation's largest logistical problems. But the biggest challenge Ben ever faced was when he stepped on a land mine. Ben is a double amputee who nearly lost his life in Afghanistan. From the sidelines of the 2024 Stars and Stripes Classic, the first ever lacrosse battle between Green Berets and Navy SEALs, Ben joined Fran Racioppi to share his story. After months of surgery and being told he would never walk again, he took his recovery into his own hands. Ben explains the meticulous research he conducted, the doctors he challenged and the method he developed to ensure he would walk and move on with life. He explains his resiliency mindset, how he applied it to becoming a Green Beret, solving his recovery challenge and how it drives him in entrepreneurship today. Most importantly, Ben shows us that there's nothing special about being Special Forces, you just have to want it more than anyone else. We're all well-aware of the stigma associated with men's mental health. Men are often told overtly or covertly to be just be quiet, do your job, and get your work done. And, while there is certainly some validity to us getting the job done when people are relying on us, it's also valid to consider the mental and emotional battles we often fight as men. Today, I am joined by retired Green Beret, Nick O'Kelly to talk about his time in service the mental and emotional anguish he faced, and what he's done to overcome the challenges of anxiety, depression, and even suicidal ideation. We talk about how a man begins to confront these issues, finding the balance between bearing down and getting the help we need, how to find teams and avenues of support without feeling weak, and how to confront the stigma (even though we all deal with it) of men's mental health SHOW HIGHLIGHTS 00:00 - Men's Mental Health Stigma 01:05 - Balancing Pride and Duty 03:12 - Debating Vulnerability 04:27 - Military Career Transitions 06:36 - Family Dynamics and Decisions 09:22 - Managing Career Expectations 11:36 - Spousal Support and Sacrifice 14:36 - Masculine and Feminine Dynamics 18:37 - Expectation Management Challenges 21:23 - Trust in Relationships 25:16 - Decision-Making Struggles 28:26 - Imposter Syndrome in Financial Planning 31:58 - Onset of Mental Health Struggles 37:55 - Consequences of Seeking Help 43:29 - Personal Anxiety Experience 47:32 - Spiritual and Physiological Factors 52:29 - High Achievers and Mental Health 54:16 - Connecting with Nick's Work Battle Planners: Pick yours up today! We begin with a quick free-for-all Friday, where we cover the latest news on vaccines, immigration, spending, and foreign policy. Next, we're joined by Dr. Peter Chambers, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who is a doctor and a Green Beret and is now taking his impressive background to the campaign trail for governor of Texas. Dr. Chambers discusses his experience in Operation Lone Star and how Greg Abbott failed to actually stanch the flow at the border. He also explains his failures on medical freedom, which is a stark contrast from Chambers' own experience, where he lost his job as a flight surgeon in the Texas Guard while offering informed consent on the vaccines. Chambers offers his vision for getting ahead of the asymmetric warfare against our country. He also briefs us on his recovery operation in Texas Hill Country and how, as governor, he would utilize retired special operators to create quick-reaction forces within county governments and the state Guard.    Learn more about your ad choices.
