Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Fiona Longmuir. Fiona is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. She is also co-leader of the Education Workforce for the Future Research Impact Lab. Her most recent projects have focused on examining working conditions for educators. In other research Fiona has investigated interactions of school and system leadership with student engagement and agency; the emotional labour of school leadership; leading schools through crises; and, leading for social cohesion and social justice. She publishes on topics of leading schools in complex contexts, teachers working conditions and teacher retention, accountability, policy enactment and student agency in school change. Fiona teaches in the Master of Educational Leadership in units focused on social justice and leading educational change and contributes to leadership programs for international school and system leaders. She previously worked for over 15 years for the Victorian Department of Education and Training as a primary school teacher, curriculum and school leader, and leader of school networks. Fiona is a Victorian Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders. For 23 years, Karen was Principal of two schools in Queensland: St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School and John Paul College. She has also been the Chair of the national bodies the Association of Heads of Independent Schools, Australia and the Alliance of Girls Schools, Australasia. Karen was a member of the Board of Independent Schools Australia and Yalari and was Chair of The Board of Independent Schools Queensland for six years. Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Yong Zhao about teaching, curriculum, schooling, educational leadership, and schools within schools. Yong is a Foundation Distinguished Professor in the School of Education at the University of Kansas and a professor in Educational Leadership at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education in Australia. He previously served as the Presidential Chair, Associate Dean, and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he was also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership. Prior to Oregon, Yong Zhao was University Distinguished Professor at the College of Education, Michigan State University, where he also served as the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology, executive director of the Confucius Institute, as well as the US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Education and a fellow of the International Academy of Education. Jill taught for thirty years in six different schools, both state and independent, and was a head for the last ten years of her time in schools. Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Rachel Lofthouse about mentoring and coaching in education. Rachel is Professor of Teacher Education in the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University, and the Director of CollectiveED: The Centre for Mentoring, Coaching and Professional Learning. She has been an educator for more than 30 years, including as a Geography teacher, a teacher educator, and a researcher. Her research focuses on professional learning, especially how teachers learn and how they can be supported to put that learning into practice. Rachel works with student teachers and their school-based mentors, teacher coaches, postgraduate students and school leaders as well as a range of educational practitioners, including those interested in community curriculum development and professional coaching for speech and language support in multicultural early years and primary settings. She encourages professionals to find practices through which they can build their workplace expertise while developing critical reflection and their ability to contribute to, and draw productively on, the knowledge base for teaching and learning. Kevin has been a Principal at Immanuel College since 2002. Prior to this he helped established the internationally acclaimed Technology School of the Future and held senior executive positions in the WA, NSW, and SA Education Departments. Kevin is a highly versatile educator with leadership and management expertise across a broad range of domains including governance, education, technology, and consultancy; in private, public and not for profit sectors. She led international schools in Asia and Europe, until she retired from her work as a principal in 2020. She has been conducting research in the field of educator wellbeing for almost a decade. Prior to becoming an educator, she spent ten years as a lawyer in the field of workplace health and safety. Helen draws upon her knowledge of evidenced-based practices, her understanding of the needs of school communities and her legal background to deliver approaches that are strategic, effective and have long-term impact on individual wellbeing and school culture. Summer spends her days championing teachers and positioning students as partners in learning. She is a key figure behind some of Australia's most forward-thinking learning and innovation strategies for education systems including positioning students as decision makers in their learning with the Northern Territory Learning Commission, the NSW DOVES the NT Youth Voice Peak Group. Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Santiago Rincón-Gallardo about what it means to liberate learning from schooling, including global examples of learning communities embracing learning as a practice of freedom and humanity. Santiago is an education consultant, founder and director of Liberating Learning, and Chief Research Officer at Michael Fullan's consulting team. He conducts research and advises leaders and educators to liberate learning in school networks and across educational systems in the United States, Canada, Latin America, and Australia. As an educator and organiser, Santiago worked for over a decade to promote grassroots pedagogical change initiatives in Mexican public schools serving historically marginalized communities. He was the director of a small NGO that catalysed a movement to turn conventional classrooms into tutorial networks, a movement that later on spread to over nine thousand schools across the country.
