In this episode I discuss Actualization, unpacking what I mean by this, and the Power of Permission, which we need to give ourselves, to pursue our intents, to take mastery of our life and our choices, to enter courageously into a conversation with the Universe and with the reality of our lives, where it becomes okay to 'fail', so that we can learn, grow and develop.Indirectly I also discuss in some detail what the entire project of the Eyes Wide Open Life podcast is about, what my motivations and intentions are, and what my main thesis in all of my work is, which is found throughout the @rocco.jarman humanitarian art project on Instagram and the Courses and Coaching I deliver via Eyes Wide Open Life. I also cover:feedback loopsself-measurement and reflectionradical honesty and vulnerabilitypeerlessnessthe false attraction and pursuit of wisdom vs the more authentic project of actualization and discovery of selfIf you take nothing else away from this episode, this is the part i hope truly lands:I believe, and in many ways, Iam living proof, that the pursuit and attainment and the successful negotiation of all the obstacles that stand in the way of self-mastery and self-liberation, is at bottom, psychological. That is, our pursuit or failure to achieve connection, is as a result of the ideas we carry, ideas we have been infected with through conditioning, the ideas we have failed to challenge and correct in ourselves. Ideas about love, acceptance, forgiveness, worthiness, power, belonging, divinity, and consciousness, are the ideas we need to get straight, and redundant impediments like shame, guilt and the confusion between Fear and Danger, between Pain and Injury, between Discomfort an unbearability, that discernment, is KEY.Sign up to my Substack: eyeswideopenlife.substack.comemail info@eyeswideopenlife.com

The world tells us to follow your heart, love yourself, believe in yourself and be true to yourself. Jesus says, 'follow me', 'love the Lord your God and your neighbour', 'deny yourself' and 'believe in me'. How do we respond when the word and the world say very different things?
Taken from our recent Embodied Spirituality course. Jeff Brown talks about the practice and application of being grounded and truly embodying our spirituality. To join our courses and our community go to www.embodimentunlimited.com Find Mark Walsh on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/warkmalsh/ About Jeff Brown Jeff's innovative new terms and short writings continue to be a growing phenomenon, widely shared by seekers and growers worldwide. His quotes have been shared in social media by Brain Games co-host Jason Silva, actress Chrissy Metz, songstresses Alanis Morissette and Fergie, and many other well-known figures. Most beautifully, they have touched and benefitted millions of souls. Jeff now understands that each step on his path laid down the foundation of a new model: Grounded Spirituality. The challenges he faced, and the countless steps of overcoming were intended for this purpose: to support humanity in their efforts to embody all that they are. Not to bypass their humanness, but to celebrate it. Not to find enlightenment independent of the self, but to find enrealment deep within it. Here we are, just as we are. He has spent the past several years, further forging and articulating his realizations, honing his voice, and shaping this new model. After an intensive and laborious process, buried in his writing cave outside Toronto, Jeff brought forth his most comprehensive work to date. Published in March 2019, the book Grounded Spirituality calls out and critically reviews ungrounded spiritualities, and presents a new model of authentic humanness, offering us a more integrated, embodied, and heartfelt path going forward. In November 2020, Jeff's 4th book of popular quotes, Hearticulations, was published. Endorsed by Grammy Award-Winning singer LeAnn Rimes, Hearticulations reminds us of the golden threads that bind us together and that there is more that connects us than divides us. Jeff is presently breaking new ground as an Enrealment Activist, with lots of exciting plans in the works including: a facilitators' training course for Grounded Spirituality; a soon-to-be-launched podcast and video interface; a plethora of new courses at Soulshaping Institute; co-creating benevolent movements; traveling the world teaching and connecting with his supporters…. and whatever other unexpected surprises await this wildly rich path of Sacred Purpose. Stay tuned! https://jeffbrown.co/books/
To be or go beyond the range or limits of, to surpass…not bypass this human experience, but embrace our humanity and reclaim our power to go beyond, to rise above our stuff, to cut across karmic ties, to excel and share our unique insight, gifts, talents and skills, to leave behind that which doesn't serve us and outshine our core false beliefs of ourselves. This is the essence of transcendence. All of the light of our intelligence, Prajna, and the innate wisdom, Buddhi, go through the first 5 stages of Yoga (1.) Self-Awareness, (2.) Understanding, (3.) Acceptance, (4.) Discipline and (5.) Actualisation, to go beyond the limited Self, beliefs and karma. This suggested method of working through these stages gives a clear path to liberation.First we become self-aware, awake, mindful.Second we identify and understand what triggers us, how we habitually react and delay the gratification and pause checking in with a set intention to practice and even a greater intention aligned to our dharma and commit to reinforce this intention as we move forward into our lives. This understanding of what you need forms a relationship to the Self as you connect with your inner intelligence, Prajna and innate wisdom, Buddhi. This connection will motivate you to approach what is arising in any given moment with a clearer path to find lasting fulfilment, contentment and even liberation from that which is causing you sufferingThird from a calmer place that is less reactive, we expand our viewpoint, empower ourselves to take responsibility for our part in what is arising and recognise our choices With awareness and understanding we can recognise what is motivating us, is it our shadow self or our light? Is it negativity or positivity? With this there is an admission of acceptance of what is as we practice cultivating loving awareness, friendliness, joy and compassion in practice YS 1.33, we embrace our humanity, forgive ourselves as we are perfectly imperfect as we see that our mistakes are our greatest teachers and emphasise self-love as we accept ourselves, our lives and what is just as it is. This establishes a sacred space where we can contently abide. Fourth, this then empowers us to re-engage with our intention, access the unlimited resource of energy to fuel us to take wise actions to show up in our lives and to live to our fullest potential as we are connected to our unique purpose of embodiment. We then enter the 6th stage of Yoga, Self-Transcendence, that we go beyond our limiting beliefs of ourselves, others and the life around us. We heal, transform old ways and surpass lessons we brought with us into this lifetime and even the ones we acquired as a result of being embodied as a human. Entering this stage where we outshine the past and receive an evolutionary upgrade so our causal body can move closer to its true desire: to be liberated from re-birth.To read more and to practice with Zephyr Wildman, click here. Everyone has dreams and goals they want to achieve, but what stops us from turning those dreams into reality? Often, it's procrastination and fears that hold us back from taking the necessary actions to actualise our visions. In this episode of the HerBusiness podcast, we'll explore the common obstacles that prevent us from taking action and share strategies to overcome them, empowering you to transform your dreams into reality. 1. Confusing Doing with Actualising One of the most common pitfalls is confusing busyness with taking action. While filling our days with tasks might feel productive, it's crucial to distinguish between tasks that simply keep us busy and those that are essential for our success. When we focus on tasks that genuinely move us closer to our goals, we'll make progress and start to actualise our visions. 2. Not Starting from a Position of Clarity or Centeredness A clear vision and a centred mindset is crucial for effective action. When we lack clarity, it's challenging to determine which steps to take towards achieving our goals. Creation comes from inspiration, not just to-do lists or plans. Take the time to find clarity and focus on your goals; the action steps will become apparent. 3. Fear Fear can be a significant barrier to taking action. Both fear of failure and fear of success can stop us from actualising our visions. The more significant our dreams, the greater our fear, leading to procrastination as a way to avoid potential failure. To overcome fear, we need to confront it and recognise that taking risks is a natural part of achieving our goals. Strategies for Overcoming Procrastination and Fear We also explore practical strategies for overcoming FEAR and PROCRASTINATION. By adopting these strategies, you'll be better equipped to take powerful action towards actualising your vision and achieving your goals. Remember, clarity leads to power, and with the right mindset and support, you can transform your dreams into reality. Prix 100 euros/jour." The last two episodes have covered unconscious bias when interviewing with the goal of not only shedding the light on unconscious bias at your clinic, but also to help you get a more diverse team… because, as we all know, the more diverse the opinions and experience you have in a team, the stronger that team is.If you're a vet or nurse looking to make your next move, YOUR unconscious bias still exists and applies in exactly the same way as it does from the clinic's hiring perspective. Just in reverse! All the biases I've talked about from the interviewer side apply equally to the interviewee as well. The same is true with today's info. If you want to be hired into a diverse team, then look out for these cues at the clinic you're being interviewed at. You obviously won't be able to see every one of them, but a few you will.So keep your eyes and mind wide open.Published Research - Journal of Personality and Social PsychologyThe Journal of Personality and Social Psychology published a research study called Evidence That Gendered Wording in Job Advertisements Exists and Sustains Gender Inequality by Danielle Gaucher, Justin Friesen, and Aaron C. Leadership AdvantEdge: Leadership | Influence | Talent | Neuroscience
Abraham Maslow proposed a sixth level in his renowned five level hierarchy of human needs, which behavioural neuroscience has since confirmed. These levels explain the essential drivers of our behaviours, actions and reactions. For leaders to be successful, they should first ensure that their own needs are met, and then understand and help their team members meet their needs. To do this, a leader needs to understand that their team members have 6 essential needs - physiological, safety and security, belonging, mattering, self-Actualisation and transcendence. Each of these needs must be fulfilled in order for an individual to reach their fullest potential. Leaders should strive to provide their teams with meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and an environment of trust, collaboration and respect. Thanks for reading Joy@Work! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.Only by understanding and meeting the essential needs of their team members, a leader can develop a successful and productive team. Why you need thisYou need to be able to help your team fill their own power cell and ignite their destiny. Every team member has different needs and motivations and it's the job of the leader to understand and meet those needs through different strategies. They need to feel accepted, respected and that their ideas matter. Leaders should be mindful to include emotional intelligence in their leadership strategy. They should be cognizant of the emotional needs and psychological dynamics of their team and give team members the space to express their feelings.Leaders should use empowering language and be mindful of their team's limits. Each team member should have meaningful work and have opportunities for growth. Leaders should also be conscious of what their team members value and strive to provide them with those things. It is also the leader's job to foster a team environment where team members can collaborate, solve problems and grow together. Leaders should recognise the importance of building trust and rapport within the team, and ensure that all team members are treated fairly and equally. Finally, leading a team requires understanding the different needs of each team member. A great leader is someone who has the ability to empathise and be compassionate with each team member and see things from their perspective. By doing this, the leader can help each individual in the team realize their full potential, and maximise the collective potential of the whole team.Abraham Maslow wanted to add a sixth level to his renowned five level hierarchy of human needs. Today, with our increased understanding through behavioural neuroscience, he was right to want to include it. These 6 human needs are THE essential drivers of our every day behaviours, actions and reactions. What does this mean for you as a Leader?Every leader needs to understand:* How to fulfil their own needs, and* Their role in helping all of their team members meet their essential, human needs.Ultimately, by doing so, those leaders can fulfil their own need to help and serve others. Is Your Battery Running Low?Imagine that your needs are like a discharged battery that you are able to charge through your life activities. When the bottom cell is sufficiently filled, the next cell can be charged. All human beings have 6 essential needs, or power cells.Though, some people have faulty power packs - with a corrupted sixth cell that has been taken over by a leaky fifth cell. That is, they care less about other people because their self-esteem is so overfilled they hold others in total contempt - because they matter less than me!Beware overfilling any one cell: Gluttony and Obesity with an overfilled Cell 1, Excessive risk taking for Cell 2.And many have a leaky battery, where their own needs never get filled. What does this mean for you as a Leader?Every leader needs to understand:* Your own needs need to be met BEFORE you have enough to give others, and* Whilst things may look OK on the surface - people tend to hide their emotional needs fearing that they are the only ones who have them.By this, you'll be better able to ask the right questions and better positioned to serve others and help them fulfil their real needs.Empty Power PackIf your needs are not met, you are an empty shell. Imagine that your brain is being powered by a rechargeable power pack. The very first thing that you need when you are born is air. Soon after you need food, warmth and shelter. Sorry to tell you, but you were born needy and totally dependent upon others for your basic survival, and that is our first and primary need…What does this mean for you as a Leader?* If you're running on empty - you're not much use to anyone!* As a leader, you help your team understand what they need and how you can help them satisfy those needs.Physiological NeedsBasic Survival means that you have air to breathe, are properly fed and watered, you are in good health, have suitable shelter to stay warm and rest and your sexual needs are being met.As a responsible leader you owe a duty to yourself and your continued good health to ensure that you enjoy good rest and sleep, exercise regularly and eat healthy, nutritious food. What does this mean for you as a Leader?* If you don't look after your health, exercise, sleep and nutrition - you won't be able to achieve much.* Encourage and guide your team into a healthier lifestyle of good nutrition, suitable exercise and proper rest and sleep.Safety and Security NeedsWe all need to FEEL and be safe and secure and be free from fear.In organisations, Psychological Safety is the #1 differentiator for personal and team effectiveness! What does this mean for you as a Leader?* If you do not feel safe and secure and free from fear - then you are likely to make this even worse for your team.* As a leader, allow your team members to speak up without any negative repercussions. Protect them from other leaders. Encourage all members to speak up freely and always encourage useful conflict and opposing ideas. Encourage everyone to build on previous statements with “Yes, and…” (NOT “No…But…”)Belonging NeedsWe all need to truly belong to a tribe of people connected to us and who help us meet our needs. A tribe where we have equal value and treated as equal. What does this mean for you as a Leader?* You need a tribe too! If it's lonely at the top - you ain't leading, you're on a walk!* Treat all team members equitably - they may not be equals but they have equal value! Encourage sharing, and proactively acknowledging each other.Mattering NeedsWhen our base needs are being met, we need to be recognised that we matter and that what we do matters. What does this mean for you as a Leader?* Learn to recognise and appreciate yourself. Respect yourself and achieve mastery in your leadership walk.* Go out of your way to “Catch them doing something good!” - and deliberately recognise all team members achievements, individually and specifically. Not a catch all - “great job team!” - that's about as genuine as it seems to you. Show complete respect for others and especially your team members. Coach them for mastery in their roles and beyond.Self Actualisation NeedsWhen we are healthy and safe, we belong to a tribe and we matter: we need to pursue our God given talents, to be creative and to fulfil our destinyWhat does this mean for you as a Leader?* Leadership develops daily! Pursue excellence and keep learning how you can be and do better. Think before you speak and remember to Pause and Breathe.* Encourage, Develop, Guide and Empower your team members daily! Your task is to make them better than you. That's what will be noticed by those higher up the food chain.Transcendence NeedsWhen we are personally fulfilled, we transcend to think more about others than ourselves. We need to give and to serve and to fulfil our spiritual selves. What does this mean for you as a Leader?* You will only be truly fulfilled when you give and give some more. If you have yet to uncover your purpose in life - here's a clue that will save you many hours - “it's not about you! You were born to serve others.” How you serve them - that'll be your gifts to them.* As a Leader your job is to serve others and when your power pack is filled to bursting, you can charge them up and help them find out and practice how they too serve others. If you would like to learn how AdvantEdge Coaching can help you, your team and your organisation, then join me for a Complimentary Discovery Session by applying here. Thanks for reading Joy@Work! A guest is on to talk about trepangs, trajectories and Kharkov, but our Actualiser Sergey Levine gets in the way by asking Malinkes and Materialist questions instead.
This week I am joined in conversation with Avigail Gimpel.Avigail is a mother of 6, college lecturer and author of Hyper Healing - a book dedicated to educating teachers, coaches and primarily parents of children with symptoms that would fall under the blanket diagnosis of ADHD. My guest is a voracious relentless researcher, who has a gifted husband and 6 gifted children all on the spectrum and is committed to leaving no stone unturned in her quest for deeper understandings and solutions - Something you will hear come out very clearly as we meander enjoyably through our conversation. We Discuss:Instant gratification type personalitiesLiving with ADHD Kids or PartnersThe flaws of the Education SystemThe Importance of DietThe false diagnosis of ADHD as a condition The wide array of ADHD symptoms with varying underling causesOur personal journeys of Actualisation require self-acceptance and integration through Inner Child Healing. So many of us are struggling in our life paths, in relationships, in careers that simply do no stimulate us, or feel alien in a culture that seems filled with other people who seem more well-adjusted to all those things than we are. Ultimately all of us except the absolutely vanilla core of the mainstream, are on the spectrum, one way or another. The entire human species is undergoing individuation as we transition into the next phase of evolution. A big part of understanding ourselves and taking ownership of our own inner child and accepting our nature is captured in the core of this conversation. As a culture we have spent the last 30 years trying to work out how to fix children that were not adapted to the traditional academic K12 education model. The kids were never broken. An education system that expected children to sit still for hours at a time and learn by wrote was always woefully, outdated, inept and was in fact the problem that should never have existed in the first place. Education after all is the lighting of a fire, not the filling of a cup.The book Hyper Healing is subtitled The Empowered Parents Complete Guide to Raising a Healthy Child with ADHD Symptoms. This episode is an edit clip from The Walled Garden Podcast where I was a guest recently. The interviewer is a collaborator and friend of mine, Australian Poet and Philosopher Simon Drew.As you'll hear from this interview Simon is a thoughtful host who is incredible at holding space for rich and meaningful conversation. We discuss:The project of bringing Mysticism and Science together intelligently and elegantly, without doing a disservice to either. The nature of skewed incentives and how that has affected public trust of institutions and degraded public discourse. The daring leadership of asking difficult questions, sitting with paradoxes and how important these are in the service of progress and evolution of consciousness.Actualisation, and what that can mean for both individuals and our species as we stand on the brink of an impossible moment. The kind of trouble the human race is facing, the tendency towards fatalism or apathy, and what we can do about this in the context of self-ownership and what it means to come from Love not from Fear.Simon is the founder of The Walled Garden - a global community of philosophers, artists, and seekers who are dedicated to the pursuit of Truth, Wisdom, Virtue, and the Divine wherever they may be found.Simon is also the host of The Walled Garden Podcast, the flagship of a growing network of podcasts centring on topics ranging right through the spectrum of the humanities, including philosophy, theology, mysticism, mythology, poetry, history and spirituality, a community I am planning to become an active part of.Email info@eyeswideopenlife.orgConnect with me on Instagram here - https://www.instagram.com/rocketsprocket/Checkout my YouTube channel here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAhHg8lI-GbAFL9cPtLxMFg
This episode is a direct and unfiltered window into a revision week of the Eyes Wide Open Life Alchemy Program. The audio for this episode one of the recent fortnightly group call with the participants and it is a summary of everything we have covered and been practicing to date, wrapped up in one clean lesson which provides clarity, context and inspiration for how to engineer a life of meaning and fulfilment. It is completely unedited, but he message is so relevant and poignant that a few of the members of the current working group taking part in the alchemy program encouraged me to release this on the podcast. I reached the end of 2021 quite burnt out and I sat just before the new year to work out where I had gone wrong, and what I needed to do to never been in this position again.I don't believe in resolutions or ambitions. I believe in Actualisation and Integration, Being and Becoming, and meeting the road along the way, I believe in leadership and coming from Love, and I believe in practicing stillness and mindfulness.I distilled all of my philosophy, my understanding of human behaviour, biology, metabolism, and all my spiritual sensibilities and worked out how to follow that with Authenticity and how to teach other people to do that. The result was the Alchemy Program. The Alchemy Program is a 6 part program that runs until mid-June. It is based on a combination of Agile principles and the philosophy I apply in my own life to pursue a life of purpose and meaning. The context to help orientate to what you are about to hear is that the Alchemy program logo is a honeycomb hexagon, a six sided cell, with each side representing one of the six focuses: Make Space, Invest Well, Honour the Cycles, Transmute Energy and Story, Receive More to Give More and Live my Purpose. The results are phenomenal. The chaos and drama and over spend of energy has been replaced by steady cadence, a time for everything, clear focus on short and near term objectives and a total paradigm shift. The Alchemy Program prescribes the What we need to do, the Way we need to do it, the How and Why it works and the guidance on When to invest energy, when to go with the flow and when to withdraw.Email info@eyeswideopenlife.orgConnect with me on Instagram here - https://www.instagram.com/rocketsprocket/Checkout my YouTube channel here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAhHg8lI-GbAFL9cPtLxMFg
The Show, The Lie, The Matrix Is The Creation Of All Of Us. Every Part Of Me Has A Divine Purpose. One Of The Most Serious Warning Signs Of A Society In Deep Crisis Is That People Can't Laugh Together Anymore. As I sit with Charles once again I am taken into the rapture of his wisdom as we dive into our free flow dance with words. I really appreciate the humbleness of Charles and the wisdom we share in this conversation. We begin our dance with Charles asking me a question and saying; "I'm done with being the smart guy on the microphone". So where does life want to go? and do any of us actually know the answer to this question? Topic we danced with: The stigma of leadership Holding the feminine sacred once more Where is the Heroines Journey? What is the Myth of Actualisation? Where does life want to go to next? Women want to trust the masculine and not be the masculine Initiation from boy to men Intense distortions of sexuality growing up Denial and Distortion of pleasure and sexuality Sex is for Union The situation of earth is serious Its really up to us The show, the lie, the matrix is the creation of all of us Why has fuck become a most aggressive hostile word? Play-fullness Words have power Every part of me has a divine purpose Charles Eisenstein is one of the most important voices in the world today. In this era of heavily weaponised media, it's really hard to find reliable sources of information. Who can you turn to who isn't unquestioningly parroting the mainstream narrative, nor spreading unhinged speculative opinions as if they are fact, nor trying to turn themselves into the new self-appointed saviour of humanity? Very few people, in my experience! Rachel Elnaugh has stood out to me in the past two years as a voice of sanity amongst all the madness. I love how fully comprehensive she is: in this interview we cover everything from divine feminine to the deep state, and in a way that is always clear, rational and compassionate.

Tracy to me is truly embodying the new human: having a clear relationship both with the star energies and the earth energies, and working as a conduit at this time to clear the earth grids and so anchoring the new earth energies onto the planet. Tracy is one of the most beautifully articulate spokespeople for new earth energies that I know of, because she is truly living it; she is speaking from direct personal experience. I ask her:What is divine feminine to you?Can you describe your relationship to the non-physical?What is gridwork? Can you talk about your relationship with mother earth? What is light language? What is new earth?

Like all good wellness coaches, Nick and Chris begin each day with several hours of goal setting, planning, and visualising how each action taken in that day will contribute towards attainment of these goals. There's truly only one downside to this - having to live in a society full of MORONS who refuse to be as deliberate in their path to becoming what they were always meant to be. Namaste.
Jordan talks with Joshua Cockayne about the social ontology of the church. They cover topics like what is social ontology/group theory? Why is it relevant for understanding the church? How should we think of the church in relation to social ontology? What are the costs and benefits of the various views? Do individual Christians have a responsibility to seek forgiveness and reconciliation on behalf of the church? Does the answer change if they aren't a part of that church's tradition, denomination, or heritage? What’s it going to take to create everything you desire to have in your life? If you start to look for how what you’re asking for can show up, instead of how much work you require to do to make it happen, magic can begin to show up in your life.. Manifestation = how it shows up. Actualisation = that it shows up. You’ve got to use both in order to create everything you desire. Resources: Shannon O'Hara - Consciousness Anywhere Podcast
Rev Uma Ukpai, has said those agitating for realization of Biafra are ‘mad people'.Speaking to reporters in Uyo, headquarters of his ministry, the prominent cleric condemned agitations for Biafra by the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).He said anyone agitating for Biafra only confirms the level of his or her madness, He intonated that everybody is mad, the difference only being in the level of madness.“There will always be crazy people, even when people are seen to be normal. Whoever is agitating for Biafra shows the level of his madness, but everybody is mad, the difference is the level of your madness,” he said.He also said he is disappointed there are still divisive elements holding the country apart.According to him until Nigerians begin to love and respect another, it would not make any meaningful progress.“In Nigeria we are all in a hurry to reach where are going to, so much so that we have no regards for others, no time for others and no love for others.“As a nation until we love one another, we cannot notice one another, only when we love that which we have, that we can develop. But in Nigeria, we don't care whether others eat or not.If we have no respect for one another, it also mean we don't care whether others exist or not,” the cleric lamented.Answering to contest for restructuring by General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the controversies it generated, Ukpai said: “I don't think that he (Adeboye) is not entitled to his opinion.“He is a man of God and he must have seen what happened during the civil war, which would guide him in the deductions he made. But to me, everybody is entitled to his op

THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan
How To End A Project Team There are no shortage of projects and project teams inside companies. Often, for big projects, various people are brought together to create a specialist team for that particular project. The projects eventually come to an end and most commonly, start with a bang and go out with a whimper. Are we gaining all that we can from these non-permanent team formations? What are we doing about the people part of ending the project team? Are we leaving on a high or low note? Teams have their own cycle. There is the Formation Stage where a team is chosen, and clear goals and direction are defined. The next element is the Stabilisation Stage where everyone settles into their roles. Following that we have the Integration Stage where the big goals are being broken down to smaller bits and being worked on. People are starting to get used to working with each other in cooperative way. Actualisation comes after that stage and the team is really starting to gel well together. Things are humming like a well oiled machine, everyone is engaged and progress is being made. The Maturation Stage is next, greater progress is being made and the teamwork is showing outcomes and rewards. The final stage is the Termination Stage when the team's job is finished or the team is dispersed into other roles. This final stage is critical because it means the project was successfully completed and there is no more rationale to have a team working on this project. Alternatively, the project may have failed and resources now must be dispersed to other projects and teams. We know that we will always have projects and project teams. Yet, we treat them all as one offs. We are losing a lot of insight when we do it this way. In order to retain the successes and learned lessons of a team, that is in the Termination Stage, it is important to arrange an organised, detailed closure to the team cycle. Teams at this stage typically have developed a wide range of influence in the organisation, often they are more willing that ever at this stage to be honest about their observations and recommendations to the organisation. Are we sufficiently adding to our stock of knowledge, creating templates of successful processes, highlighting ideas for broader distribution and passing this on throughout the organisation? What is the flow of this processs? There are four elements of establishing closure to the team cycle. Completion of any deliverables or any remaining team efforts The original planning will have had timelines attached to various stages of the project and these need to be checked for completion. If there is anything left over, then this has to be finished immediately. Evaluation of the team's process and product Did we finish late, on time or early? What worked and didn't work during the team cycle? Did we chronicle the journey? If we are going to be doing a similar project is this a point of failure we need to prepare ahead of time? What went well process wise to bring the team together and why? Identification of lessons learned and passing these on to future teams Inevitably teams learn hard lessons during their team cycle, sometimes captured as “mistakes we have made”. Success or failure, there are lessons aplenty but are we well enough organised to capture them? Often the learnings are picked up along the way, but everyone is too busy to note what works well or what innovations they introduced. Getting these down on the record is the way to pass these on to other teams or future teams. Global consulting companies are totally project focused and they are very disciplined about capturing what they have found, in order to speed up completion of other projects of a similar nature. Are we doing that or are we constantly too busy to capture critical data points, reflections, breakthroughs, innovations? Creating a closing celebration that acknowledges the contributions of individuals and the accomplishment of the team and that formally ends this team's existence These events are sometimes hard emotionally for the dissolving team and any departing members and also for individuals and teams left behind. The whole aim of creating a successful team is to get the people working as a single unit, really invested in pulling together as a team and being recognised as a distinguishable unit within the broader organisation. And then we break it all up. If it were ever only one team, that would be okay, but people are designated to participate in other teams and at different stages of their career. After a painful experience attached to the ending of a team, they may be gun shy about getting too emotionally attached to their fellow team members on the next go around. This creates a new problem in the next team being created. As professionals, many of us tend to avoid emotional work situations that might make us feel uncomfortable. For departing team members, there might be a strong desire to move on to the next adventure and depending on the circumstances of the team termination, there might be some hard feelings toward individuals and the organization. As a result teams often fade out. This is where the leaving on a high feeling must be created. It happened to all of us after High School, after University graduation, when people went their different ways. This is similar and it can be sad or disheartening. It doesn't have to leave a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, if we design the ending properly. Leaving in triumph should be the theme and everything geared up to celebrate the people and their joint achievements. This should be baked into the leader's plan at the start. Create a project team, capture the team's learnings all the way through and then go out with a bang. We know it intellectually but often we don't do it. On the next project, plan the party first!

Most of us are experts at blaming things, people or situations for our misfortunes. Sometimes this is justifiable, but just because it sometimes proves true, Leila argues, doesn't mean that we shouldn't suspect every argument against our creative progress for being a potential excuse. Additionally, one of the reasons we are so quick to blame is because we fear responsibility. Leila explores why this might be, in this third Creativity Clinic episode of the Hack Circus podcast.
