"That barrier between what is “real” and what is not, when that's more fluid, I think it's that's where the fun of fiction comes in. Especially when you're writing for kids.” - Minh LêLife is full of barriers. Barriers between reality and the imagination, the spiritual and physical world, and perhaps most crucially, the ones we create for ourselves. When a barrier is a boundary, it can be a good thing. But in many cases, the barriers we create are holding us back. Minh Lê's life was defined by many of these self-imposed barriers until well into his adult life. But slowly, through nudges from friends and family and a lot of self-reflection, Minh began to learn that the only thing in between him and his dream of being a picture book author, was himself.Minh is a children's book author best known for "Drawn Together," winner of the 2019 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, as well as the Eisner-nominated "Lift" and "The Blur." He also authored the Green Lantern graphic novel series and contributed to numerous short story anthologies. Minh has a full-time day job and is also very active in the kidlit community, especially his work with We Need Diverse Books. He is intentional with his time and dedication and has made a deep impact on children's literature. In this episode, Minh discusses how he overcame his insecurities to achieve his dream of becoming a picture book author. He also recounts the transformative experience of writing the biography of the beloved Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, and shares an absolutely breathtaking story about their encounter. Minh shares his philosophy on why we should all blur the lines between the real and the imaginary.***Connect with Jordan and The Reading Culture @thereadingculturepod and subscribe to our newsletter at thereadingculturepod.com/newsletter. ***Minh expands on his stories about meditation on the podcast with his reading challenge, "Meditative Picture Books." Send us a Text Message.Along this glorious little life journey, it is inevitable that we will come upon moments that we will have to choose how to best proceed. A fork in the road, yeah? And, of course…we will want to choose wisely. But, in order to be able to do so, we will have to be self aware. We have to learn from our own motions and motives in order to get there, so that means we first need to have a knowledge and acceptance around what in our lives we are choosing to blur. And trust me, my friends, we are all blurring something in our lives. We blur when we decide something is easy, that we can go thru the motions of it and have our minds be focused elsewhere. Bet you'll be as surprised as I was when I realized how many important daily moments are just blurs. It's what inspired me to look at them more and share this episode with you guys. Let's talk about the moments we blur and how we can know when we should be blurring other things instead, or blurring nothing at all. How by just changing a small focus in our day we change a lot more in our lives and our connections with each other. So, if you're feeling ready to choose, please listen on and let's see what's coming up blurred.
Britpop is back, baby! «The Ballad of Darren» ist Album der Woche. In India, a low-budget film has sparked huge controversy. "The Kerala Story" tells the fictional tale of three Hindu and Christian women from the southern Indian state, who are lured into the Islamic State group after converting to Islam. Indian PM Narendra Modi praised the film, saying it "exposed the consequences of terrorism in a society", while critics call it an attempt to spread hate and Islamophobia. We take a closer look and speak to journalist and author Debasish Roy Chowdhury.

Welcome to Where The Chasm Is Bridged, a podcast by Behind The Scenes. The film which is today's focus is Hawaa Hawaai. It revolves around the life of one Arjun Waghmare who is a victim of incessant atrocities. The son of a poor farmer, he works at a tea stall to make ends meet. The movie shows how he and his friends face all odds to come out winning and despite all the impediments that society puts in their way, they rise to the challenge. It's a heartwarming tale of how tough life is for child laborers and an appeal to the emotion for everyone who watches the film. It is interesting to see how the society stereotypes the children and adults by categorizing them into the 'hopeless' and 'useless' category all because of their social background. They are ridiculed and discouraged from pursuing their dreams, making sports like Tennis or Golf, the sport of the 'Rich'.

I am starting with a very big trigger warning to everyone--for me, this is the darkest topic I have covered. I talk with a friend (who wishes to remain anonymous) about her experience with sexual assault. Sadly, this is something that happened to her more than once and she discusses how these events affected her. I am incredibly proud of her for speaking up because this is the first time in her life she has ever gone through this detail with anyone, so I thank her a million times over for trusting me with her story. I hope you take something away from this.***I would love to hear your feedback on the podcast so far! If you love it, please e-mail me at jaclyn@darkandenlightened.com or follow me on Instagram at @darkandenlightened. If you hate it, well....take it easy on me. Or please just stop hating it and start loving it. Either or.

In this episode of By Any Means Necessary hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Samantha Pineda, Program Director of CISPES, to talk about how Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele is using the coronavirus lock-down as a pretext for his larger crackdown on criminals and political dissidents alike, why some international observers initially praised Bukele's response to the pandemic, and why women and LGBTQ people are being disproportionately impacted by violence amid the crisis. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Brandon Soderberg, a Baltimore-based reporter and the co-author of upcoming book, "I Got A Monster: The Rise and Fall of America's Most Corrupt Police Squad," to talk about the news that the Baltimore police is set to begin surveillance of the city via small reconnaissance planes, why privacy advocates are up-in-arms about the potential dangers of the new technology, and why so many are convinced that giving police access to new surveillance technology will cause more problems than it solves. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by International affairs and security analyst Mark Sleboda to talk about the mafia-style threats have been used to intimidate whistleblowers from the OPCW as well as important figures at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and how the lack of evidence, motive, and reliable witnesses make allegations that the Syrian armed forces unleashed sarin gas on a remote field as they verged on total victory so unreliable, and why a Bloomberg report insisting Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has become a "headache" to Russian President Vladimir Putin is more than likely "wishful thinking" from a long-time Russophobe.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Maurice Cook, founder of Serve Your City, to talk about why he's "scared to death" of the recently-announced committee to reopen Washington, DC, why conversations about whether Black politicians or Black communities bear greater responsibility for the housing crisis paper over the role of big developers, and why so few contemporary DC politicians seem able to live up to the legacy of Mayor Marion Barry.

Varighed: 6:12

http://marketingtoolspodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Sponsorships.mp3 When you google “what’s the reason for sponsorships,” it gives you all these stupid reasons like “ it puts your brand front and center.” … Well that doesn’t mean anything if people have no idea what you do or why you want to be linked to the brand. Sponsorships are used to align your brand with the brand of whatever it is that you are sponsoring. Tip of the week Before you agree to any sponsorship, whether it’s with the New York Yankees or your local high school football team., make sure you have a brand message that aligns with whatever it is you’re sponsoring. And whenever possible, have a tactic to activate potential consumers through your sponsorship. Marketing Brilliance, Blurs, and Boners

Chantel Taylor and I had a conversation with former Army Green Beret Alan Shebaro. Alan lived in Europe for a number of years growing up as his father was a contractor with the U.S. government. Upon his return to the States Alan joined the Army. After a number of years, Alan reached a crossroad. He either went pro as a mixed martial arts fighter or went to Special Forces selection. He told us a story of a time in Iraq in which he was on an 18-hour mission hunting terrorist. Upon his return to base Alan barely had enough energy to take off his gear as he sat and ate cereal. He looked up at the television and saw his training partner Travis Lutter win the Ultimate Fighter 4 with that victory securing his title fight against UFC legend Anderson Silva. Alan was 1 of only 4 Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the U.S. Army and is the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt in Special Forces Regiment. Alan went through a dark period upon leaving the military and he talks about it in great detail, and what helped him get out of that dark space. He is now the Vice President of the We Defy Foundation which through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and fitness training provides combat veterans suffering from life-disabling injuries and/or PTSD a long-term means to overcome their challenges. Below Alan shares a story from his first deployment which involves MSG Stephen Walker Booth a Green Beret who died in a motorcycle accident here in the States: Alan: We were already hearing the pings on the vehicle. My heart rate was over 200. I stepped out the vehicle and took 3 steps then hear a whip and saw a spark on the ground. A round missed my head and went by my foot. Everything was chaos. Blurs of colors. It wasn't that I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what to do with the training I received to apply in this situation. I'll never forget this. Stephen Walker Booth. This guy comes running right passed me yelling out " I'm going to come at you like a spider monkey boy" laughing his ass off. I was in shock. He's making jokes in a firefight. The weirdest thing happened. Almost instantly the blur disappeared. I could hear crisped sounds. Everything slowed down and I jumped in with one of the cells. Everything clicked. It was all based off what Walker said. It was my 5th or 6th firefight. That affected my career in every single fight after that. In 3rd Group he's a legend.
