Welcome to Gank That Drank, where hosts Krissy Lenz and Nate dive into Supernatural episodes with custom drinking games! This week, they tackle Season 11's finale, "Alpha and Omega," where the stakes couldn't be higher as God (Chuck) is dying, and the world faces imminent destruction. The episode picks up right where the previous one left off: Amara has defeated everyone, Chuck is dying on the floor, and the sun is literally fading away. Our hosts break down how the team scrambles to find a solution by collecting souls to build a bomb powerful enough to destroy Amara, leading Dean to make what appears to be the ultimate sacrifice.Krissy and Nate discuss the emotional farewells as Dean prepares to be the delivery system for this cosmic bomb, highlighting the touching moment when he hands over the Impala keys to Sam. But in classic Supernatural fashion, the plan goes sideways when Amara instantly detects the bomb. Instead of destruction, the episode culminates in reconciliation between Chuck and Amara, with a shocking final scene revealing Mary Winchester's return.Episode HighlightsThe drinking game rules included drinking for "milady" mentions, soul references, and Ghostbusters jokesIntroduction of Lady Toni Bevell and the British Men of Letters storylineChuck and Rowena's amusing parent-like tea conversationDean and Castiel's heartfelt "you're our brother" momentBillie the Reaper's cool entrance and soul collectionThe emotional "no chick flick moments" exchange between Sam and DeanThe cliffhanger ending with Mary Winchester's return and Sam facing Lady BevellOur hosts rate this finale as "fine but not spectacular," noting it lacks the emotional punch of previous season finales and relies too heavily on plans that repeatedly fail. They also speculate whether Chuck was manipulating everyone all along, adding another layer to the cosmic drama.Join Krissy and Nate next episode as they travel back to Season 7 for "Shut Up, Dr. Phil"—and don't forget to catch their live improv shows at the Neighborhood Comedy Theater in downtown Mesa, Arizona! ---Learn more about supporting this podcast by becoming a member. This podcast aims to support dads all over the world, especially those struggling with their mental health. This podcast is my hobby, but I'd like it to become more than that one day. For that to happen, I need the support of either one very wealthy angel investor or a few thousand, possibly slightly less wealthy (but no less generous) angel investors.I need some help developing the podcast and hopefully supporting more dads. With that in mind, if you enjoyed this episode and want to help me with what I'm trying to do, here is the link where you can leave a tip. After about a decade of setbacks & enough coffee to sink a ship, I'm a much happier dad. As previously mentioned, I want to try & help other dads be the best they can without losing their mental health. Mental health battles are something I am all too familiar with. In 2010, my GP suggested I do a 12-week CBT course with the NHS. In 2012 Kristian Thomas performed the final floor routine that secured Great Britain's first Men's Olympic team medal in a century. He won a total of fourteen major championships medals throughout his career and was coached by Michelle Bradley at the Earls gymnastics club in the West Midlands. In 2013 he recovered from a knee ligament damage injury in the spring to win Britains first ever World championship medal on the vault in Belgium. He has won major championships honours on more individual apparatus than any other British gymnast in modern times and captained the British Men's team in the Rio 2016 Games. Kristian now works for the football Premier league but will always be remembered for that iconic Olympic vault moment in London 2012. And this is his story.

Let me tell you this: It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get back up. There will be times when you feel like you're on top of the world. Then life stops you right in your tracks! It throws you a big punch that knocks you sideways, and possibly out! You've hit rock bottom! This is exactly what today's guest Marcus King experienced, and all within a two year period of the recent COVID pandemic. Salon owner of the 'King and I Norton' in the North East of England and many industry awards to his name including British Men's Hairdresser of the Year and North-Eastern Hairdresser of the Year, Marcus King looked to have it all. Then in 2020 the COVID pandemic arrives. Salons around the world go into lockdown. With the anxiety of salon closure, the furlough of staff, a compromising business partnership, short of money, the break up of his relationship, the tragic loss of his very close sister and illness, Marcus's world was literally turned upside down in a very short space of time. Today I want to get Marcus's story that led him to such dark and difficult times. But before we get to this part of the story, I want to go right back. Right back to when Marcus entered into the hair industry as a young 14 year old lad, and how he went on to work on stages around the world with Hooker and Young, before leading us along to why winning at the British Hairdressing Awards meant so much to him. Then we learn about the exiting times of opening his salon business just before the pandemic, and then... Battling the very dark days of lockdown and how it all led Marcus to mental health illness, that culminated in a stroke. Then like all big blockbusters, we get the comeback story! This is a hard-hitting episode that is going to help inspire and empower you to know that however difficult things get, you can comeback event stronger. Marcus is full proof of this. He's discovered resiliance and determination to adapt in the face of adversity, trauma, ill health and loss. By turning to well-being and choosing a healthier lifestyle, Marcus is once again transforming pain into possibility. You'll get so much from this monmuental episode. With continued conversation around British identity, racism and diversity, there is no better time to explore this question and give Black British men a platform to answer it. SAFE: On Black British Men Reclaiming Space is that platform. Including essays from top poets, writers, musicians, actors and journalists, this timely and accessible book brings together a selection of powerful reflections exploring the Black British male experience and what it really means to reclaim and hold space in the landscape of our society. Where do Black men belong in school, in the media, in their own families, in the conversation about mental health, in the LGBT community, in grime music - and how can these voices inspire, educate and add to the dialogue of diversity already taking place? Following on from discussions raised by The Good Immigrant and Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race, this collection takes readers on a rich and varied path to confront and question the position of Black men in Britain today, and shines a light on the way forward.

You’ve seen the look in historical dramas. You laughed at the foppish dandies that appear on Masterpiece Theater. In grade school you sneered at pictures of King George with his powdered wig, adjusting it ever so slightly while drinking a cup of tea with his pinky finger extended, wondering how he further extort colonists with new taxes. You didn’t know that we call important people “bigwig” due to the aristocracy tradition of fancy wigs. But where does the powdered wig come from? Why was such a peculiar look the sign of nobility in England during the 1500s-1700s? It all has to do with syphilis, head lice, the shame of male-pattern baldness, and the fashion tastes of Louis XIV. TO HELP OUT THE SHOW Leave an honest review on iTunes. Gearóid meets athlete Oliver Dingley the olympic diver who changed nations to become the first diver in sixty eight years to represent Ireland in the Olympic games. He then made history by becoming the first Irish diver to make it to the final finishing a very respectable eighth position. In order to compete for Ireland Oliver had to make big sacrifices. He moved to Ireland with his coach and he lives on campus in the national sports centre. He is by his own admission a bit of a hermit. We chat about the psychology of staying focussed when the world is watching, free food at the olympics and meeting his idols. Oliver Dingley came to prominence when in 2008 at the age of 15 he became the youngest ever British Men’s one meter springboard champion. He won the title again in 2009, 2011, 2013. In 2010 he won gold at the British cup for the three meter springboard. Despite his success he wasn’t selected for a world cup or world championships. In Olympic trials for London 2012 he finished second. The divers that finished first and third were selected for team GB instead. When he won bronze commonwealth games in 2014 he decided to change nations and dive for Ireland.Oliver’s commitment to his training is very impressive. He trains for 25 hours a week and has never been on a diet. The links between losing a job and and a person's mental health is of considerable interest not just to the individuals affected but to health professionals, researchers and policy makers. For researchers, there are interesting opportunities to use panel studies, where people are interviewed repeatedly over time, to look more closely at the links between the two. But along with the opportunities come challenges in measuring and analysing those links accurately. In this podcast Professor Fiona Steele talks to Christine Garrington about new research by the LEMMA 3 node of the NCRM examining at the issue of selection bias when analysing panel data to look at the links between unemployment and mental health.
